What do you do when an Earl washes up in your small town and remembers (in front of the town gossips) only you in his bed? You proclaim that he’s your husband, of course.
This is the first Stacy Reid book I’ve read so I wasn’t sure what to expect going into it but I was instantly hooked. I loved the way the book started and I adored the family dynamic between the Heyford’s and Daniel, but after about a hundred pages I was virtually screaming at Georgie to just tell him the truth.
Despite that the book was still on track for being a 4 star read (and that’s coming from a serial 3 star rater).
Despite coming off as a dick for the first 20% of the book, I really started to like Daniel when he began mucking in with the family and caring for them. Then the moment he found out the truth he switched and became ridiculous until the final scene. Every single decision he made I was thinking what on earth is wrong with you. Even Georgie began driving me insane during the second half of the book when she kept going back to Daniel despite him giving her fuck all back.
Overall it was a good book, but at the beginning it had the potential to be great.
Thank you to Entangled, NetGalley, and Stacy Reid for this ARC!
Stacy Reid is easily one of my favorite historical romance authors and this story did not disappoint. I went into the book blind, not knowing that the salacious rake (and Earl) Daniel was about to meet his match only to be reunited with her without any of his solid memories of her. He, of course, remembers all the carinal memories and when his body remembers her more than his mind, she's quick to call him her husband to save her reputation.
Seeing Daniel work in another setting than the one we were introduced to him really helped me soften to his boorish attitude at the beginning of the book. He's not going to be the right hero for everyone, but I loved seeing him soften to Georgie and her sisters.
Would recommend if you like the amnesia trope!
ARC kindly provided through NetGalley though all thoughts are my own.
This makes me want to go back and watch Overboard RIGHT NOW.
oh my God. All my favorite things. A tiny revenge plot. class difference. a Reformed Rake. a man with a dirty mouth. THE LONGING. Daniel absolutely longs for her so much even though he doesn't understand why. he's very Mr. Darcy in the beginning about it when faced with finding that he is married to someone he has but a passing memory of. he's been a Rake for so long that he never pictured himself wanting more than a mistress. I loved how direct he was with everyone including her. And I absolutely loved Georgianna as well. She was tenacious ans kind and caring for her family and never backed down to him and you can see on page hoe much he loved that about her. I was a bit concerned with how many times that word is used (over 200 when I searched it) but man is it used in every kind of way. playful. serious. devious. this was an absolute TREAT to read. I loved it all.
Romance or Revenge?
Ms. Reid pens a sultry sensual historical with bits of the erotic. If you don’t like a steamy read, this is not for you.
Miss Georgianna Heyford, the eldest of four girls, spends her life trying to keep her sisters safe and well after the death of their parents. They all work hard to try to keep up the failing manor and their struggle shows.
Georgianna has a talent for cooking and earns money for the family in this manner. She jumps at the chance to cook for a high end client to ease the financial crunch.
Sparks fly immediately between Georgianna and the scandalous Earl of Stannis who fires her.
Life conspires against him when he’s knocked overboard and washes up in her village, creating the perfect opportunity for revenge...or is it?
I highly recommend for lovers of steamy historicals.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC to peruse gratis and offer my opinion in the same.
I cannot believe the absolute trash that littered this X-rated book. I am advocating for Publishers to have to put Movie Ratings on their books, I am not advocating banning, I am asking for the a accepted solution of Movie Ratings to be placed on books. I am not a prude, but I do have an acceptable standard of living that I live by, that my friends and family live by, and if I knew this book had this filthy language in it, I would never have accepted it as an Arc, considering Ihave purchased over ten thousand ebooks I don't want to open one and find such garbage, there needs to be a reasonable solution to choosing a book, is it so profane that you feel as though you need a shower after trying to finish this book. The sad thing is the book had plenty of interesting plots to keep the story going, the pornographic language was out of line and there must be a warning for those of us who find this utterly offensive . How does a cute story of a genteel brought up young lady, with her feminist ideas of being a Chef in a different time period, which was a great idea deteriorate into porn? My excitement at such a novel idea quickly plummeted by unnecessary garbage. I am not sorry, I normally hate writing poor reviews, but this is beyond the pale. I feel like I deserve an apology. Netgalley must allow us to turn in books without penalties, once we are shocked by the content, we should not have to finish a book, I am ready to give up, being an honest reviewer does not make me wrong, the author has every right to write whatever they choose, as a blogger I have the right to be honest about my opinions. I appreciate your allowing me to write a review.
Thank you,

What does one do when an amnesiac earl publicly claims to know you “carnally”? Pretend you’re married to him, duh.
Stacy Reid has done it again. There’s a reason she’s one of my favourite historical romance authors. You might end up disliking the plot or the tropes, but you sure will have a good time reading the book, and the steam is always on point which is a bonus.
Georgie is my type of heroine. She’s fiercely independent and would do anything when it comes to her family’s wellbeing. I might be a little biased as I am the eldest myself, and relate to many of the challenges she goes through, but I couldn’t help but fall in love with her. She loves her siblings so selflessly and speaks of cooking with such passion. You can feel her love for cooking as you’re reading, which turned it to my favourite thing about the book. One cannot help but fall in love with Georgie. She’s definitely a new addition to my “favourite HR heroines” list.
I was a little thrown off by Daniel at the very beginning, in fact, I very much got the ick, but thankfully, things did change for the better when he lost his memory. The only problem is that I only liked him when he his memory was gone, the minute he got it back, things went south. His anger due to Georgie’s deception is completely valid, but to me, the way he handled things erased any character growth he achieved. I missed my Mr. Stannis the second the Earl came back.
Everything was going well until the last 75% of the book. Those last chapters were not “it” for me. If anything, they did make me feel a little icky which is the reason why I can’t bring myself to give this book a higher rating. Daniel’s actions towards the end made it very hard for me to root for him, and at the end, I was not convinced by his feelings for Georgie. I didn’t believe he was truly in love with her.
BONUS POINTS: any scene that involved the animals or the little ones had me laughing and dying of cuteness at the same time. I really enjoyed those, they were great.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review, opinions are my own.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read it early.
This is a wonderful and entertaining story. Daniel is an Earl and a rogue. Georgianna is in dire straits financially and trying to support her sisters. The plot of the story makes for some hilarious encounters between the characters. There are some animal characters that will be unforgettable. What starts out as a lie quickly becomes heated and truthful. You won’t be able to help rooting for the characters relationship to be happy.
title: An Earl to Remember
author: Stacy Reid
publisher: Entangled: Amara
publication date: 22 August 23
pages: 266
peppers: 3 (on this scale)
warnings: talk of death, nothing that bothered me
summary: Georgiana takes a job as a chef on a private cruise party despite knowing that the ship's owner is an infamous womanizer. She needs the payment to take care of her three younger sisters, as they are parentless and struggling to keep their household together. The earl who owns the ship's mistress fights with the earl (about his obvious interest in the chef) and pushes him overboard. In his fall and near drowning, he gets amnesia. To save her reputation when the "washed ashore man" says he must have slept with her, Georgiana claims to be the man's wife and proceeds to take him to her house and have him work off the missed payment by doing husbandly chores. If you think this sounds like a gender-swapped Overboard, I'd have to agree.
tropes:
amnesia
rich man falls for poor women
rich man learns about himself
great food brings people together
orphans fending for themselves
mean mistress
what I liked: I'm a sucker for the 1987 movie, and I liked the way Reid reimagined it. I liked Reid's portrayal of both of the main characters and several of the side characters, including Georgiana's younger sisters.
what I didn’t like: not much. I thought this was a fun read.
overall rating: 5 (of 5 stars)
I liked this one a lot and look forward to seeing future books with the friend groups as well. I liked the entire families and cast of characters
An Earl to Remember is a Regency retelling of Overboard, and I think my favorite version since the original movie.
Georgianna and her family are in dire straits and her saving grace is the job she's taken as a chef aboard a boat for a party. When the man who got her fired, Lord Daniel Stannis ends up washing ashore and claiming to have carnal knowledge of Georgie... which leads her to claim they are married to save her reputation... the fact that she's getting a little bit of revenge on Daniel is just an added benefit.
I flew through this book in just a few hours. It was fun, entertaining and left me with all the feels. Georgianna and Daniel seem like an unlikely couple, but they really worked for me, and I loved the ending. I can't wait to read the next book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. So, here it is:
A regency “Overboard” you know the one with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. The premise to this story is very interesting and it has its funny moments, and there it lays the many reasons why I picked this book over many from NetGalley’s list. I would say that the story is very entertaining full of mischief and sensuality. I read this book in one sitting it’s so engaging. Our heroine, Georgiana is a chef that gets to cook for the earl of Stannis on his private yacht but, unfortunately she gets fired on her first night of employment. And that’s how the story starts and if you are curious to know more I would recommend read the book. This is my first time reading Miss Reid’s work and I am very impressed by her style and story telling.
I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Georgianna Hereford has been tasked with taking care of her siblings after the death of her parents, and she has secured a very important job catering the yacht party of the notorious Earl of Stannis, but when a misunderstanding finds her fired and without recompense, she is beyond angry. When the Earl of Stannis washes up with no memory after an accident, she takes advantage of his lack of memory, and pretends he is her husband while making him to menial tasks around her home to pay him back for his horrible behavior to her.
This was such a fun story! An overboard retelling with a twist. Stacy Reid really knows how to take tropes and make them feel fresh and new. I have never been much of a fan of amnesia plots, but did she make me love it? YES, SHE DID. I laughed so many times at the things that Georgianna made the Earl do, I also liked the sweet moments between the two, and how he did so many lovely things for her. I am super excited to keep reading her backlog. She writes the most amazing chemistry between her characters, and I truly think she does the most unique stories. They don't feel super formulaic which is a nice change from most HR stories.
Georgie has taken on the responsibility of her siblings and is trying her best to make all their lives better. She is using her cooking experience to bring in extra income. She meets an Earl and sparks fly but the distance between their stations in life is too big.
This is another great book from Stacy Reid.
I would like to start of by saying thank you to Entangled, NetGalley, and Stacy Reid for this amazing ARC.
I am going to start off with my rating. I am giving this one 4.5 stars. I loved it so much that I can’t wait till it comes out on audiobook so I can do a reread. Now for people wanting a premise just think of Overboard with Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. I love the amnesia trope and was hooked from start to finish. I think I ended up reading this in one sitting. I laughed and also shed a few tears. I just absolutely adore Stacy Reid and in my mind she can do no wrong.
Now I am going to be honest you are either going to love this one or not. The hero does come off as the ultimate rake so be prepared. But for some reason everything in this one just worked for me except for one part in the middle which is why its at a 4.5 stars. But I will be a forever fan of Stacy Reid! If she writes it I will read it.
There isn’t a thing wrong with the romance. It is perfectly paced, the H and h perfectly paired, and the plot perfectly charming and unique.
I love when authors find clever ways to develop relationships without the constraints of the ton. And the heroine winning over the hero by beating him in a duel so that he hires her as his personal secretary was such fun.
The heroine is the type of character you would want as a friend. Smart, sweet, cunning, humorous, a tad eccentric, brave, loyal, and adventurous. The hero is an alluring alpha male who is also brilliant. They are the best.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. My one disappointment is how the heroine’s backstory is revealed and resolved.
Miss Georgianna Eleanor Heyford may be naught but a gentleman’s daughter, but even she’s heard the rumors about the Earl of Stannis’s exceptional charm and good looks. Surely she can cater his luxurious yacht party without getting swept away. But a terrible misunderstanding leaves Georgianna fired, furious, and with little recompense. Which is precisely when her opportunity for vengeance washes ashore… Daniel Rutherford, the Earl of Stannis, has absolutely no memory of who he is. They tell him he must have fallen overboard, and the only person he seems to recognize is the lovely Georgianna—who strikes a chord of familiarity…and the faintest memory of heating his blood. Only now this inelegant, poorly dressed woman claims to be his wife! This is a romantic book full of passion.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.
When Georgianna Heyford's chance to cater for society ends in disaster, she knows that she needs to find a way to reclaim her lost wages. So when her former 'employer' Daniel Rutherford, the Earl of Stannis, winds up on her beach, with no memory, except for Georgianna's face, she creates a story that they secretly wed, and plans to force Daniel to pay off his debts. But she never expects that she will start to fall for her 'husband', or wish that he was plain Daniel Rutherford, and not an earl.
This was simply fantastic! Daniel and Georgianna's chemistry was off the charts, and though I didn't really like how much she was lying to Daniel, their romance was lovely. Daniel had always had a reputation as a rake, and he definitely was one when we met him in book one, and at the start of this book too. However, once he is found by Georgianna, after being thrown overboard by his vindictive mistress, the 'true' Daniel starts to come through. Yes, he may never have worked a day in his life, and he struggles with the daily chores and tasks that Georgianna gives him, he relishes in being useful. The Heyford family dynamic was great, and Daniel fit in with the family perfectly. The angst and drama between the pair when the truth is revealed was breathtaking, and though I hated some of the decisions made, the culmination of their romance was perfect in the ending! I hope this isn't the last of the series, and we get to see the pair again!
An Earl to Remember is the newest release from Stacy Reid and was described as Overboard with a fun Victorian twist. So I was ready to jump into this amnesia, historical romance romp!
But sadly this just didn’t work for me. I had a very hard time with the hero and was never rooting for him. He’s a rake to the extreme and we see him with his mistress and getting ready to jump into a threesome when the story starts, even accidentally mistaking the heroine for one of the participants and making moves on her. She’s on board his yacht as the hired chef, but ends up fired when his mistress isn’t a fan of how much he’s into her. Later he gets into a fight with his mistress who accidentally sends him overboard with a shove. He washes up in the heroine’s village with no memories or knowledge of who he is and she says they’re married (to save herself from a compromising situation). I just never felt like the romance was based off much and didn’t see what either saw in one another besides lust. The story moves quickly but I never felt pulled to the characters.
The heroine’s relationship with her sisters, who she has taken care of was sweet and the cover is stunning. But other than that, this left me wanting so much more from the story and the romance. Which was a surprise because I’ve read and loved so many books from this author in the past. I’ve read other amnesia historical romances that worked for me so much better. I will of course continue to read this author!
Thanks so much to the publisher, Entangled, for an ARC via NetGalley. All thoughts in this review are my own. An Earl to Remember has a release date of August 22, 2023.
The story has great characters with Daniel and Georgianna, then you add in two little girls Anna and Sarah along with their pets Hetty and Midge and it is sometimes like a three ring circus. I enjoyed the story, especially Daniel’s interaction with the two young girls and how they won him over in such a short time. It is a fun read with a lot of humor and some spice. Definitely worth reading.
I received a free copy of this book via Netgalley and are voluntarily leaving a review.
Totally immerse yourself in another fabulous Stacey story which is based on the the movie “Overboard”,
Georgianna is responsible for her younger sisters and takes a job as a chef during Daniel’s yacht party.
Daniel is an Earl, a rich arrogant libertine who is discovered mistaken,y kissing Georgianna by Daniel’s mistress.
She is so angry that she has Georgianna fired and accidentally pushes him overboard. Heartbroken, Georgianna returns to her small village and farm. Fate throws an amnesic Daniel in her path, she claims him as a husband and takes him home to work on the farm.
There is deception and guilt with fun kisses and hot scenes that bring them closer together but when the truth surfaces, it tears them apart. Coming together will be tough for both of them.
Absorbing read, never could put it down until done and then reread again.
