Even Georgianna Heyford, daughter of a country gentleman, has heard of the exploits of the rakish Earl of Stannis. Nonetheless, she sees no reason why she can’t cater his exclusive yacht party without falling under his spell. However, an unfortunate misunderstanding sees her sacked, infuriated, and underpaid. Yet, upon returning home, the perfect chance of revenge washes ashore in the village.
Daniel Rutherford, the Earl of Stannis, has lost all memory of who he is. Only Georgianna seems to recognize him, and he thinks she might be familiar, but there’s no way she could possibly be his wife as he claims.
In truth, Georgianna is taking this opportunity to use the earl to do some of the work she’s now unable to hire someone to perform, thanks to having her wages cut short. This will be a temporary arrangement, and no one ever needs to know the truth. But the longer the earl remains with Georgianna and her sisters, the more it feels like he’s meant to stay with them, leaving Georgianna ripe for heartbreak when his memory returns.
I want to start by saying that I love this author and she’s responsible for some of my favorite reads. Unfortunately, this story was not one of them and you chance spoilers from here as I get my thoughts out. Right from the start, I was very much not a fan of the hero’s mistress having such a prominent role. Then his meet cute with the heroine is him mistaking her for a prostitute. I was very much not a fan, and this certainly did not cast him in a good light. Not to mention the fact that his mistook her for one of three women who he’d planned to have join him in bed that night. I also wasn’t crazy about the extreme level of Georgianna’s innocence nor the ease with which he completely overwhelmed her. And yet, we’re clearly meant to see Daniel as redeemed and noble because he cares about those who work in the factories he owns. Even with the mistress being portrayed as a shrew, I was still not a fan of her continuing to have so much page time at the beginning of the book and I continued to struggle to find anything to like about Daniel. Even knowing how wrong his mistress was, he went ahead with firing Georgie, though he did attempt a fix later on, and this was basically indicative of his nature throughout the whole book.
This struggle persisted through pretty much the entire book as he referred to Georgianna as plain and obviously below him in every regard, and just generally behaved at the height of pomposity and arrogance. For me, there was no coming back from that. I adored the hero from the first book in this series and Daniel pales mightily by comparison. I understand why Georgie lied and declared an amnesiac Daniel to be her husband; he left her little choice, but why just keep piling all the other lies on? He did grow a modicum of charm while he was with Georgie and her sisters living a simple life, but that was quick to go out the window when he regained his memory. I get that he was just in denial and trying to protect himself from frightening and unwanted feelings, but that didn’t make it any easier to stomach.
Even when we’re told that he’s lending support to a bill that would give women more property rights in the next breath he’s telling someone that he supports that bill simply because he’s trying to support his friend, not because it’s something that he believes in. And of course, he thinks love is whimsical and imaginary. This could’ve still been super cute despite all these issues, right up until Daniel suggested that Georgie could essentially just become his mistress and they be fake married, but only in her small town. Even later he still contemplates marriage to another and refuses to shut down his mother’s and grandmother’s machinations. As if he weren’t already bad enough, we’ve also got to add in some other woman (not even the mistress, another other woman) drama, with an attempted compromise scene. I just thought this was unnecessary and there was way too much packed in here.
After how drawn out this was and how all over the place the plot was, the ending felt very rushed and lacking, not that I was ever likely to feel satisfied by this story. All in all, I’ll definitely continue to read this author, but this story was a total dud for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Luz Alana our heroine is a mixed-race woman of color in the 1800s that faced the same barriers and challenging women still faced today.
The historical back drop of the French International exposition in Paris in 1889 enhances the saga as we watch a businesswoman try to make her way in a world that sees her as a female first instead of the smart businesswoman she is.
When you add a handsome Scottish earl who offers a proposition that she cannot refuse you get a sexy, complicated love story.
THIS WAS SO GOOD I HAVE NO WORDS
um this was so good??? I think this is my third Stacy Reid and while I've enjoyed her other books enough to buy three more of them they didn't stand out as favorites, but this ONE? Obsessed. Truly no notes??
Despite being a romance reader I am pretty cynical IRL and don't want a partner, however this book made me want things I thought I didn't want!! so that is quite rude of everyone involved!!
The plot is sorta complicated, but basically he gets amnesia and washes up in her town. Since he owes her money from a party she catered and she tells everyone they are married. The issue is she has no money and he is an Earl, but she doesn't tell him he is an Earl. (Also I found out after I read this that it is a retelling of the film OVERBOARD which I am adding to my watch list asap)
Now I am new to the amnesia trope (hehe) and would've said I am neutral towards it, but SIGN ME UP this was so fun. I also don't really like lying/withholding information between the love interests, but lowkey did not bother me here.
Georgianna is an older sister taking care of younger siblings which unfortunately means I relate to much of her motivations. And I appreciated how she didn't keep all of her sisters in the dark with the situation. She does take on too much, but Reid allows her to accept help in a way that feels natural.
It also was iconic of her to make a man who wronged her do chores around the house. Nothing like seeing a man who is kind of a jerk be forced to do farm chores and get chased by a chicken.
I will be including spoilesr in my blog review which will go up at
Overall, I loved this one so much. It's one of my fave historicals and it will probably be a fave of the year. The way I want to reread it I'm like how can another book compare??
SPOILERS
I never like characters to sleep together while one is lying to the other and honestly it worked here bc they both were lying but they wanted each other more. AND THEN WHEN HE LEAVES THAT NOTE SIGNING IT LORD STANNIS I ALMOST PERISHED. like literally the best thing he could've done was not get mad bc he is so obsessed with her. like I was expecting a third act breakup/conflict and while the breakup happens it's like in this soft way where both characters are sad about it but knew it was going to happen so THEY ARE NOT MAD ACT EACH OTHER? like truly external conflict done so well.
AND THEY DRINK SKETCHY WINE TOGETHER AND THEN HE MENTIONS IT LATER AND AHHH
Literally my only complaint was there was a moment while he climbs out of a lake that I felt Stacy Reid could've taken a moment to make it more of a 1995 BBC P&P moment but she did not.
And I liked how Lord Stannis is kinda of a jerk. He reforms and sure it could've been a bit more detailed, but I think him not being mean to her when he finds out the betrayal is the best character development Stacy could've given him. We don't need to see him mean and upset. We know he is but he LOVES HER and knows she is attracted to him so he takes one last thing.
Stacy Reid is an auto buy author for me! Her romance books are so fun and swoon worthy. Not only this, they are not like every other romance out there. She really pushes the bar with some fun plots that always work for me! I absolutely cant wait to read more from her in the future. Thank you to net galley and the publisher for the pleasure of reading this book!
This was an interesting fake dating, amnesia romance. Georgina is hired as a chef for Daniel, the Earl of Stannis's boat party. All is well until the Earl confuses Georgina for someone else. Through a series of events, Daniel gets amnesia and believes the lie that Georgina is his wife. It's a fun, spicy romance that will keep you entertained to the last page.
I absolutely adore this author! I was so excited to read this one and I did not disappoint! It was so good! I liked that this had an Over Board theme to it! Georgianna is a cook/chef. She’s the oldest sister of four. She works hard to provide for them since their parents are dead. When Gerogianna gets a job offer to provide food for the Earl of Stannis’s yacht party, she’s read to make her mark! Daniel, the Earl, is a rake, arrogant, and doesn’t want to be tied down. When these two see one another on the boat, they have immediate chemistry. When Daniel sees Georgianna in his cabin, he assumes she’s here to be a lover! Well later Daniel is found with no memory but does remember Georgianna! These two have such a fun story! I enjoyed watching them fall but also fight their attraction! The steam was hot too! I loved this book! I can’t wait for what’s next!
Stacy Reid is fantastic as always, and this Overboard inspired plot is absolutely devine. I devoured this book with a happy little smile on my face all the way through.
From the moment Georgianna set foot on Daniel's boat, I was swept away. I highly recommend this super fun and sexy book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Set in Victorian England, An Earl To Remember is a sexy twist on the Cinderella story. Georgianna Heyford has been gently bred but with the deaths of both her parents five years earlier and with three younger sisters to care for, she’s struggling to make ends meet. Her love of and talent for cooking leads to a lucrative post as a chef aboard a pleasure yacht crusing up the English Channel, but an unfortunate meeting with Daniel Rutherford, the libertine Earl of Stannis and his extremely jealous mistress results in her being sent packing after just one night on the yacht and with only a pittance for her efforts. A subsequent embarrassing meeting with the now amnesiac earl leads her to claim he is her husband.
The premise for this story is somewhat implausible and the plot is at times predictable, however Georgianna and Daniel are likeable characters and I enjoyed watching them struggling to keep their hands and their lips to themselves. It was fun watching Georgie’s sisters Anna and Sarah show Daniel how to gather eggs from the henhouse and how to milk a cow. I liked seeing a peer of the realm being shown the realities of life far below his station. A light, humorous touch and the sensual bedroom scenes also made this an entertaining story.
This is an Overboard retelling where the hero has amnesia and the heroine decides to fake them being together as a way to get back at him/teach him a lesson. Stacy Reid's writing always shines. Her plots are always zany in the best way and this was another fun read.
Georgianna is from a poor family and ends up working on the yacht of Daniel Rutherford, Earl of Stannis. He has charm, good looks and is rich. A misunderstanding leads to Georgianna being fired with no money. Daniel ends up with no memory of who he is, except a vague memory of Georgianna and being attracted to her. Georgianna is determined to get her money and sees a plan for revenge. She claims to be Daniels wife. The couple end up becoming closer than they thought, at least until Daniel's memory returns. Will they make it through?
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley.
Historical romance take on the movie "Overboard." We have Daniel the Earl who is also a rake is already with his mistress in the beginning of the book. Daniel and Georgie meet on a yacht and he is pretty mean to Georgianna. He falls overboard and with the doctor, Georgie happens to be around and says she knows him but before anyone can spread rumors about her reputation she declares they're married! Georgie and her sisters were great. I just wanted a bit more oomph in the story. Overall not bad.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
I adore Stacy Reid. She is one of my favorite authors. This was such a fun little adventure. Georgianna Eleanor Heyford doesn’t live by normal society rules. She is a chef, and a dang good one. She agrees to cater for Daniel Rutherford, who is the Earl of Stannis, and the party on his yacht. After some confusion and misunderstandings she is forced to leave without what is owed to her until an opportunity literally washes ashore. That would be the Earl who had fallen overboard and had lost his memory. Now she takes a chance for a bit of revenge and hopes to be repaid. What she didn't expect was falling for him and his charms. As Daniel starts to feel like he belongs, memories begin to return. Everything is fighting for his feelings for her.
Hot and steamy with a loving feeling too, you will love this fun story. As a twist on a classic movie I grew up with, the overboard and amnesia vibe is absolutely perfect. Who knew it could be so amazing in historical romance. The passion is there, the adventure is there and you are going to want to join in. With strong characters and a story that will sweep you off your feet your going to want to have this book. I can’t say enough about this story. I couldn’t put it down. It draws you in and keeps you there. I am grateful for having this as an ARC but I will be buying it to add to my Stacy Reid collection. Her writing is always with detail and passion, and you will be hooked. Enjoy this adventure.
Ms. Reid is a new-to-me author, so I didn't know what to expect when I picked this up. After reading this, I think I have a new favorite author to add to my list! An amnesia trope is always a fun one to read. Georgie is trying to live her dream as a chef, and she thinks she's finally going to get that chance when she is hired to cater on Lord Stannis' , Daniel's, ship. However, jealousy from his mistress leads to her being fired, and so Georgie is forced to leave the ship without pay. Daniel and his mistress get into an argument during which she pushes him overboard. He winds up in Georgie's town, with amnesia, and Georgie sees this as the perfect opportunity at getting revenge. Since he has no recollection of anything, she claims he is her husband. A crazy start to what ultimately turns into a beautiful relationship!
The story definitely pulled me in from the start and was entertaining and kept me engaged till the end. I didn't really care for Daniel's character in the beginning, but losing his memory seemed to help him become a better, more likable person. A fast-paced, fun story that is sure to entertain! Glad I had the opportunity to read this!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
Remember the movie Overboard? An Earl to Remember is a good re-imaging, gender bent version of that story. I enjoyed this book's humor and if you're looking for heat, not just in the kitchen, there was plenty (though it was probably a bit tame by some Stacy Reid books I've read).
The unforgettable Earl in question is Daniel, Earl of Stannis, who at the beginning is one bit horn dog. He unashamedly pursues hedonistic pleasures, even though we have glimpses that he's a mama's boy at heart.
Georgiana Heyford is a hard working chef who is trying to provide and raise her three sisters.
Instalust, jealous mistress, a head injury resulting in amnesia, and deception ensue.
The best parts for me were scenes with Daniel and Georgie's younger sisters. I loved the changes in his character when he wanted to cook and clean and provide for his "family." I almost felt sorry for him and mad at Georgie for deceiving him. Yes, her inner monologue told us constantly she felt guilty.
Enjoyable romp if you like light fare with amnesia tropes, deception, cute kids, and lots of inner dialogue.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and freely given.
Oh I loved this story. This is a gentleman's daughter struggling to keep her family together after being orphaned and a very rich Earl who feels her vengeance. She never dreamed she'd fall in love with the jaded rake but when his memory is taken she finds he has a good heart under all the trappings of society. They both learn lessons and their lives are forever changed by each other. I found this a delightful original story to read.
Georgianna Heyford is the eldest sister who's trying to keep their family together in their parents manor house after their parents died. She's a very good cook and works to find jobs that will put food on their table. When she gets a job of cooking for the Earl of Stannis for his yacht party she is delighted. For 300 pounds they can live for another year. She hopefully will get more jobs for those who attend the party.
Daniel Rutherford, Earl of Stannis is a very rich man who has no intention of marrying anytime soon. He's planned a lavish yacht party for his mistress Lady Johanna Wimpole's birthday. His secretary hires Georgianna to be the chef for the weekend. Georgianna delivered the food Joanna requested herself to Daniel's stateroom. Daniel mistakes her for one of the ladies that were to join them in a tryst and begins to take liberties. When Lady Johanna finds her in Daniel's stateroom while he's coming out of the shower she's instantly jealous. Johanna fakes food poisoning to have Georgianna fired. Afterwards Johanna and Daniel argue and she accidentally pushes him overboard!
Daniel finds he survives but has no memory. Georgianna immediately recognizes him at Dr. Parnell's office. Daniel has impressions of her but his comments prompt Georgianna saying he's her husband so her reputation won't be ruined. She decides since he cheated her out of her wages that he should work it off while he's with her until his memory returns. What follows shows that Daniel has a good heart under all the rakish actions. I really enjoyed watching the two of them fall in love.

This was a fun take on the 80’s movie “Overboard”. Where a rich Earl tumbles over the side of his ship, gets amnesia, and our heroine gets to take out her revenge on the smug Earl.
I love the movie “Overboard” and was worried that the modern plot wouldn’t translate into a historical, but boy was I wrong! This was entertaining, funny, and oh so steamy.
I highly recommend this book for historical romance lovers. You will love Georgianna and Daniel’s tale from their first meeting to the dramatic gesture ending.
Overboard the movie but gender-swapped and regency era...this was made for me. Though I know amensia is barely a real medical condition, at least as frequently it is used in books, especially historical, I love the zany plot that ensues. Here, a licentenious earl has a spark with his hired chef - whom he promptly fires ecause his mistress demands. When he later washes ashore in the chef's town and proclaims to the doctor he remebers nothing but knows he has shared a bed with her- our FMC, Georgianna, blurts that the amensia patient is her husband. Overboard antics ensue.
"Snapping his teeth in annoyance, he turned away, intending to return to the manor. Daniel frowned. If he did not do this chore, who would? His wife? Her sisters? Bloody hell. He could not allow it. They were bloody genteel young misses! How could they be so reduced?"
“Make a wish under the stars and take me into your dreams, Daniel.”
Stacy Reid could have called An Earl to Remember "A Book I Will Not Be Quick to Forget." This is such a fun, unique concept that I felt myself smiling and swept away as I read the book. I was captivated from the time Georgianna arrived on Daniel's boat to the very end. I know that Reid is borrowing from the super popular and hilarious 1987 movie Overboard (don't come at me about the remake, I will not acknowledge it) but she also gives this book its own due and makes it her own.
The book is a wild ride for quite a long time and then it simmers a bit in your typical romance love story but still with a little drizzle of bananas while Daniel has amnesia and then finishes with a large serving of bonkers when (spoiler) Daniel gets his memory back (spoiler) and again, a bit less crazy as they find their HEA. But throughout the feelings that Georgianna inspires in Daniel are strong and new to him. Daniel is SUCH a rake in the beginning and Reid goes to some extremes (which I appreciated) to show us how much of a rapscallion he is/was. But then he transforms into such a good, helpful husband to a woman who could use an assist. I loved when he called her "wife." Every time I sighed a little sigh. I love how kind he is to Georgianna's younger sisters. Daniel may come across like a heartless glutton seeking only pleasure but he is a bit of a family man at heart.
Georgianna is a heroine to whom one can relate--ok, outside of tricking an earl that he's your spouse. But she's working so hard to provide for herself and three sisters. She is smart and resourceful. She isn't missish--she doesn't have the time or money to be. When presented with an opportunity, she will take it. I adored her.
This book is just such a fun, SEXY romp of a tale. HIGHLY recommend and cannot see what Stacy Reid gives us next. It's always a fun time.
Thank you to Entangled for the advanced reader copy. These opinions are my own.
Georgianna is hoping to establish herself as a chef to support her younger sisters. So she agrees to cater a weekend party on a yacht. It goes horribly, and the Earl of Stan is ends up with amnesia. She is the only one who knows who he is, and he doesn't recall how he knows her.
This book took so much suspension of disbelief. The entire set up became more ridiculous as further events occurred. At times, that made it a bit hard to follow.
Despite that, I was impressed by how well written the characters were. Even with amnesia, he retains his personality and awareness of who he is at the core. And there was such lovely romance development.
But I was constantly waiting for the other show to drop when his memory returned. That made it not as strong a book for me as the previous A Matter of Temptation. This one can be read as a stand alone, but that book is so great that I recommend reading it first.
The following are my thoughts as I read this book. Georgianna Eleanor Heyford…oldest of the four sisters, feels responsible for her younger sisters, plans to take a catering job on a yacht. Daniel Rutherford…Earl of Stannis, known to host wicked parties, becoming some what bored with current lifestyle. The h has a passion for cooking and plans to use that passion and her skill to provide money for her and her sisters. Oh the h caught the attention of the H and he shocks her with his behavior towards her. Poor h pays a hefty price due to the jealousy of the H's female "friend." Well the h is not afraid to ask for what she was promised. The H's "friend" is so melodramatic, ughh. Oh dear a case of amnesia by the H has a scandalous impact for the h. LOL, the h just made an instant decision in regards to the H and now there is no turning back. The H does not fully believe what the h has told him, but he cannot refute it is not true with no memory. I think the h’s plan for the H is a bad one and will probably backfire, let’s see if I am right…stay tuned. Oh yes, there are expectations from the H that the h did not anticipate when hatching her plan of revenge. The H has accepted his fate and is going about giving his best effort. Tsk, tsk, tsk guilt is a continuous companion of the h as she continues following her plan for the H. Mmmm, I think the longer the h continues with her revenge against the H the harder it may be for him to forgive her. Oh ho, the h tries to tell the H the truth but he doesn’t believe her. Oh dear, the H’s memory has returned and he is not pleased. Funny line “I will not select a bride as a birthday present,” I like the H’s grandmother, she is too cute. Ok excluding the vindictive side of the h, LOL, she is pretty honest and straightforward with the H. Oops the H’s grandmother and mother plan to force his marriages did not work out in their favor, in fact it may have been the catalyst to show the H his true feelings regarding the h. Oh yes, the H is making a spectacle of himself in his quest to let the h know his true feelings. HEA! I, unfortunately, disliked the H at first meeting and was somewhat tickled by the h’s plan of revenge but as the story continued I found there was more to him than I realized, kudos to the author. By the way I was right and wrong about my prediction of the H’s reaction when he discovered the truth about the h’s revenge plan, hehehe. Oh yes, there is most definitely adult language and steamy steam. Happy Reading!
