Burning Justice by Tee O'Fallon is a romantic suspense novel that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The book follows ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner and insurance investigator Gemma Scott as they team up to solve a string of arsons in Colorado.
The story opens with a bang, as a warehouse fire leaves one person dead. Brett and his K-9 partner, Ace, are called to the scene, and they quickly realize that this is no ordinary fire. The arsonist is targeting businesses that are connected to Gemma's employer, and she soon finds herself in danger.
Brett and Gemma are forced to work together to catch the arsonist, and their attraction to each other only complicates matters. As they get closer, they each have to deal with their own personal demons. Brett is haunted by a childhood fire that killed two of his friends, and Gemma is wary of getting involved with anyone after a bad relationship.
The suspense builds as the arsonist's plans become more and more deadly. Brett and Gemma must race against time to stop the killer before he strikes again.

ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner is searching for an Arsonist and he gets help from strong, independent insurance investigator Gemma Scott who helps him bring a different approach to investigating. But will the past be stronger or will the bad guys win? A story full of suspense action and two stubborn characters.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
All I can say after reading Burning Justice is where has Tee O'Fallon been all of my life?! I am a huge fan of romantic suspense and I have purchased several of her books but I just didn't take the time to sit down and open one up until the other day and now I am grateful that I have a shelf full because I am hooked and headed for a binge read! This might be the second book in her K-9 Special Ops series however it definitely stands alone. ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner is a man on a mission. His mission is to find whoever has been setting several homes in the Denver area on fire of which one of the fires caused the death of two teenagers. Insurance investigator Gemma Scott is a woman on the same mission. She has been tracking a series of insurance claims for unexplained fires that is leading her to believe that a single individual is responsible for the arson and now she plans to prove it. When Gemma and Brett meet they are both used to working solo but if they plan to get to the bottom of these possible crimes then they will need to work together along with Brett's K-9 partner Blaze. They are both very complex characters and Ms. O'Fallon does a great job of peeling away their layers and twisting the story in exciting and thrilling ways that kept me glued to the pages. She is quite knowledgeable with her writing and she has now gained a fan for life. Burning Justice was told from dual POV and was full of action, twists, intrigue and a splash of heat for our main characters. I cannot wait for more books in this series!
There are a few very suspenseful scenes in this book. Notably, the scene with Gemma and the intruder in her house stands out the most for me. I was on tenterhooks the whole time. However, the investigation seemed to last forever and wasn't very exciting to read. The fires had already happened off-page and Brett and Gemma spent a lot of time nosing about and fact-finding to prove arson.
I loved Blaze, the K-9 and how talented he was in so many ways. Gemma also has adorable parents who made me laugh.
The twist at the end came as a surprise and there was a good dose of suspense and drama. Although, I was disappointed in Brett's actions everything worked out in the end.
The scene is set for the next book in the series and it has piqued my interest.
Romantic suspense with a sexy male hero, an independent heroine, and a kick-ass K-9? Tee O'Fallon delivers a real page-turner in this second installment in her K-9 Special Ops series. I loved the intensity between Brett and Gemma, but of course, K-9 Blaze steals the show. A very fun read indeed.
This is book two in this series, and you don’t have to read them in order. I would advise doing so as you learn about all the characters, and some show up from story to story. Tee never disappoints with her books, they all have suspense, mystery, intrigue, passion and strong H and h. This book is wonderful even with lots of hidden secrets, and two very wounded people. Both Brett and Gemma have had very bad things happen in their past. Both like to work alone so joining forces to help catch an arsonist is a Hugh step of trust for both. Brett is carrying a lot of survivor guilt after the death of his friends. Gemma was betrayed by a former colleague and boyfriend. Alone with Blaze, the most amazing dog ever, they work to solve all the fires and save lives. Many underhanded evil people are involved, and the ending will surprise you, it did me. Be sure and get your copy and get ready to not be able to put it down. I can’t wait for the next book... I love books with strong main characters and animals. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
This was an edge of your seat suspense with the main characters that both have pasts. Starting out as partners to lovers they work together to solve the case. I really enjoyed this book. Not realizing this was the second in the series I’m excited to read the first book. Full of suspense and romance this was my kind of read! Blaze was a fun addition to the story. If only all dogs could be so in sync with their humans. Thank you for the advance copy, I really enjoyed it.
Burning Justice is a perfect thrilling romance. This is the first book that I have read by Tee O'Fallon and I was really impressed with her writing and storytelling skills. She was able to do justice with Gemma and Brett's backstories and her character building really built a great foundation for the story. When a traumatized Special Agent and a jaded insurance investigator team up to solve who the serial arsonist is that has claimed several lives sparks fly in more sense than one.
The depth and emotion that the author is able to infuse in her writing makes for a wonderful story. You get aggravated with the characters but you still root for them. There is a lot of loss and pain in this book, but it just made for a more well-rounded story in my opinion.
I think any thriller lover will enjoy this, especially if you want a bit of spice. There are certainly some major feelings flying between the two characters. I will definitely be looking out for more by this author, especially if it has another adorable canine friend.
This was such a great book and I loved the characters. Brett Tanner is an ATF Special Agent and he lives with PTSD and survivor's guilt. He survived a fire that took the life of his friends when he was younger. There are a lot of fires that are very suspicious and he is determined to find who does it. Brett and his K9 are both on scene. In comes Gemma Scott and she is an insurance investigator. She is timid to work with someone else again after being hurt before.
They make the best team and he is overprotective because of his past. They are targeted by the arsonist and as they get closer to the answers, people end up dead. This book is filled with lots of suspicious characters and the ending took me by surprise. I will be reading more books by this author and we will be adding this to our library collection.
I received an advanced reader's copy from the publisher Entangled Publishing, LLC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I felt this was a well-written romantic suspense. I am a sucker for the hero-rom genre, especially if the female protagonist is intelligent, capable, quirky, and strong while the male counterpart is compassionate and just enough alpha.
Brett Tanner and Gamma Scott have a fantastic chemistry I could feel coming off the pages. I enjoyed reading their inner monologue on how they felt. However, this is not a spicy 🌶️ book for those who prefer the super hot and heavy. This is more of a romance with a touch of spice in a few suitable places.
Gamma works for the NICB, aka National Insurance Crime Bureau. Brett works for ATF, aka the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. They teamed up to investigate a string of fires that might be connected.
Tee O’Fallon writes well-developed characters and plots. The K-9 Special Ops series is entertaining, suspenseful, and very engaging who done it.
A fast-paced, action-packed romantic suspense novel with plenty of twists and turns that kept me guessing.
The story follows Gemma Scott, an insurance investigator, and Brett Tanner, an ATF special agent, as they team up to investigate a series of arsons in a Colorado town. The fires are more than just suspicious, they're deadly. And as Gemma and Brett get closer to the truth, they find themselves in real danger.
I enjoyed the chemistry between these two. I do admit at times Gemma grated on my nerves, probably because I could see what a great person Brett was and I wanted Gem to give him a chance!
They were so good together
The author did a solid job of keeping me engaged and the romance between these two felt natural.
The supporting cast brought a lot to the story and gave me a better understanding of the lead characters and their pasts
The adorable K-9 partner, who steals every scene he is in, also plays an important role in helping Brett cope with his PTSD and in bringing Brett and Gemma closer together.
This is the second book in the series and can be read as a standalone
What a thrill-ride romantic suspense! I enjoyed it so much. From the first page until the last, there was danger, intrigue, angst, and plenty of steamy. I loved Brett and Gemma so hard. And I could not get enough of Brett's K-9 partner, Blaze, who absolutely steals the show. Bring on the next book in the series 'cause I am so there for it.
Many thanks to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for an advance copy of this book. My thoughts and opinions are my own and without bias or favor or expectation.
Burning Justice is the second book in the phenomenal K-9 Special Ops series. I love this author and how her books always have such depth. Her background knowledge of federal agents and investigators is shown in her complex plots. They are full of intrigue, twists and turns, and of course the adorable dogs.
ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner survived two house fires but the other people he was with died. His survivor’s guilt has him searching for justice so when Gemma shows up with her suspicions, he is willing to partner with her to find answers. Even though he liked Gemma he couldn’t risk falling for her.
“You’re the light in my life. You’re all the brightness and beauty a guy could ever wish for.”
Insurance investigator Gemma Scott worked independently after being deceived by a previous co-worker. She didn’t want to work with a partner, but Brett had the resources and information she needed to crack the case. She’s determined to prove herself by solving this case.
The chemistry between Gemma and Brett was intense from the beginning. I loved watching as their friendship and trust in each other grew. They were so in sync with each other and made the perfect couple. I really enjoyed the secondary storyline and I highly recommend this book. I cannot wait for the next book in the series and hope it is Evan’s story.
Burning Justice by Tee O’Fallon
K-9 Special Ops #
Fire is a hungry beast that cares not for anything in its path – woe betide anything flammable that might be in its way!
What I liked:
* Beginning with a fire – great way to anchor the story and eventually bring threads together
* Brett Tanner: ATF Special Agent with K-9 partner, obsessed with a fire that had fatalities and in which he was scarred physically and emotionally, suffers from nightmares and PTSD, unable to commit to relationships till he resolves the case that preys on his mind
* Blaze: Chesapeake Bay Retriever, K-9 partner to Brett, specializes in sniffing out accelerants but has other talents, loves bacon & watching television, canny canine
* Gemma Scott: National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) Agent, has trust issues after being burned by a colleague, prefers to work alone, daughter, sister, proud owner of Jaws-her goldfish, renovating her home by herself
* The plot, pacing, setting, twists and turns during the investigation into a series of arsons – learned more about fires than I knew before
* The relationship between Blaze and Brett and how well the two work together no matter what they are doing
* Gemma’s family: the parents that set up dates for Gemma in their Deli, her brothers who seem to care deeply for the family and work in the family business, and were so much fun to watch in the last chapter
* Seeing how Deck & Tori are doing and being able to look forward to the next book with Evan in it
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about people willing to commit crimes to pad their pockets – no matter who they hurt in the process
* The scars left on more than one person in this story – do hope that Sally, Gavin, Ally, and others will find a brighter future
Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely!
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
I usually find suspense romance to be unbalanced or I find myself not caring about the plot. This is definitely not the case with Tee O'Fallon.
I can't begin to describe how invested I was in the arson case. I think it's my first one and it was so interesting. I also love how she builds the case, and how detailed and thorough she is with all the details. You can tell she knows her stuff.
But OH BOY how invested I was in this romance! It was a slow burn for sure. One I enjoyed from beginning to end.
Our MCs are very real people, with very real problems, motivations, flaws, traumas, and aspirations. I don't know why, but I expected to see a rivalry between them. But it was so nice to see them so in sync both in the field and in their love life.
And of course, I have to give a shoutout to our furry boy Blaze! As always, love love love how the K-9 are a character in every story.
This is a well-written and exciting romantic suspense novel that will keep you hooked until the end. The female protagonist is captivating and intelligent, while the male protagonist is strong, capable, and wounded, making you root for him from the start.
The K-9 in the story is truly heroic and adds an element of danger and intrigue. The chemistry between the two main characters is sizzling, and the supporting cast of family and friends provides a heartwarming touch of humor and love.
The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns that will keep you guessing until the end. Even if you haven't read the first book in the series, you can still enjoy this second entry in Ms. O'Fallon's K-9 Special Ops series.
Overall, I recommend this book to anyone who loves romantic suspense novels. I'm eagerly anticipating the next entry in the series, which I hope will be Evan's story.
Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4.5/5)
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Wow, this book was action-packed, and I loved every minute reading about fire and arson investigative processes! The MMC, Brett, and FMC, Gemma, are both agents for federal organizations who come together to investigate a series of suspected arsons. Both are admittedly attracted to each other but are dealing with past traumas that create apprehension and hesitancy in trusting the other. Not to mention there is the professional line they need not cross.
The pace of the story is steady as Brett and Gemma’s investigation unfolds, picking up speed when things take a surprising turn. You definitely won’t want to miss out on the sizzling spice between the two, intermingled with action and suspense surrounding their investigation. And who can resist a beloved K-9 companion? Tee O'Fallon does it again with Burning Justice!

It was an engaging tale with two strong, hard-headed characters and an adorable police dog.
I love the idea of the law enforcement guys and their K-9 partners. Brett’s dog, Blaze, has a huge personality and he’s an important part of the story. It was also wonderful seeing Brett’s friends and their dogs contribute to Brett’s investigation.
The arson investigation was gripping and when Gemma was targeted, that added another nail-biting facet. They both had super interesting jobs and their professions meshed well.
Brett had a huge personal growth arc. His single-minded devotion to solving this crime was admirable, but Gemma and their relationship showed him that there was more to life and that he deserved to have more. The story didn’t develop Gemma’s motivations to the same degree, but she was an interesting character. She handled herself with aplomb in a career dominated by men. Brett supported her in her efforts to be seen as a competent investigator and not a pretty face, but he also gave her room (for the most part) to handle situations by herself.
I just didn’t connect with their relationship. Brett made some unilateral decisions for Gemma, based on his own fears, and she saw it as a betrayal. And in the end, it was Gemma who had to exercise understanding for his reasons, but he didn’t treat her feelings with the same deference. I’m also not convinced that they truly resolved anything at the end when they kissed and made up.
I can recommend this book and this series if you like thrilling crime investigations, dog, and steamy romance.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This series is a romantic suspense treasure: each book has a well written suspenseful plot, a good balance between action and emotional moments, a decent amount of steam, and compelling characters. And dogs.
This time, it’s the story of Brett, ATF special agent interested in arsons for personal reasons, and Gemma, investigating a series of fires for the NICB. They’re introduced to each other at a warehouse fire–what a meet-cute! Brett has survived two fires and is looking for the perpetrator of the latest one, as it resulted in the death of two teenagers. When Gemma reveals she thinks that fire is connected with the warehouse one, Brett decides to team up with her.
Brett has survivor guilt, as well as a strong protecting streak. He’s also a fine investigator, and though he doesn’t trust his feelings, he sure trusts his partner. Gemma has been burned–AH!–in a previous partnership, and it takes her longer to trust Brett, but she recognizes his skills. They made a great pair, and I loved that it showed how well they worked together. In all senses.
There was desire, of course, but it was more than just chemistry. They had similar tastes, they respected each other, and they shared enough of their personal life for them to really know each other. In a way, the suspense came first in the story, and the romance was born from it. I can appreciate that.
That also meant that the suspense was very well crafted. Besides a tiny point that was quickly forgotten when it could have been relevant, all the elements fit together, with the added delight of a twist by the end.
Be warned that there’s a potentially triggering element in this story–children’s death–and though it isn’t really graphic, the author insists on it because it’s Brett’s main trauma. Proceed with caution. But if you don’t mind, please enjoy this great romantic suspense.
