Survivor’s Guilt/PTSD/Obsession/Gut Instinct meet calm investigative skills in the package of an attractive woman.
Arson and murder has ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner fixated on catching those responsible but it is not until he meets Gemma Scott of the National Insurance Crime Bureau and hears her theories that the pieces start to fall into place. Along with his K-9 partner Blaze, the two team up to follow the clues. An exciting story with action but the final romantic ending was a bit of a disappointment.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Burning Justice by author Tee O’Fallon is just another one of those love stories about a dude and his dog. OK, I’m kidding, but seriously, who doesn’t love a story about a man and his beast. Especially when said beastie is more than just a partner in solving crimes. Blaze also functions as a support dog for his studly partner Brett.
Toss Gemma Scott with her stellar detective skills, trust issues and affinity for goldfish into the mix and we have the ingredients for one unique romantic suspense story my reading friends! Surprisingly these two stubborn independent individuals who both like to be boss work well together. Until they don’t.
Brett may have fumbled the ball a couple of times, but he always kept Gemma’s safety in mind. I really enjoyed this couple. Having well intentioned family and friends around for side banter and shenanigans is always a plus.
I received an E-ARC from the author via Entangled Publishing through NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
I swear, there are always exceptions to reading preferences. Law enforcement? Usually not a fan. Dogs on book covers? Nope. A dog actually being a main part of the story? Absolutely not. Except for when Tee O'Fallon writes them!
All of these books remind me of why I love romantic suspense as a subgenre. These books are fast-paced, hook you from the start, can't-put-downable. I also love this one in particular because I thought I had totally figured out who the bad guy was, but I was wrong and didn't figure out the big twist until it was nearly right on top of me! I will say, while I appreciated the details and the nuances of their jobs, it got to be a bit bogged down every now and then. It's clear the author did her research (as always), but at times I found myself skimming because I was getting lost in the weeds of it all. I wanted more time with these characters and their relationship, not necessarily the job.
I feel like every time I read one of her books, I want to go back and read more just like it! And I already can't wait for Evan's book, which I'm absolutely begging to be next because I know it will break my heart and put it back together again!
“Burning Justice” by Tee O'Fallon
Intense Suspense
I loved this story. I was actually sitting on the edge of my seat for part(s) of this story… as if sitting close to the edge would help me read faster during those edgy parts. While I wanted to turn the pages faster, I didn’t want to miss a single word or phrase, afraid I might miss an important bit of information. And this story while suspenseful, also had a couple of chuckles and some tears. It played with my emotions very nicely. Happy Reading ! !
Note: This review expresses my honest opinion.
I received an ARC of this story from the publisher via NetGalley.
This is an exciting and suspenseful book. I felt so sorry for Brett because of what he went through a few times with fires. The whole fire in his younger days shaped his future and his job as an ATF special agent along with his K-9 partner Blaze. I feel it was a good thing that he met Gemma who was an Insurance investigator when there was a suspicious warehouse fire. Gemma was so smart and had to always prove herself in a predominantly male job, which she had got burned once. It was so interesting reading about how the two put clues together and how it usually led them to more questions and clues to follow. The two were in some pretty tight spots at times. It was fun watching the them fall in love, but deny it to themselves. I felt Ms. O’Fallon did a wonderful job keeping me guessing who was the arsonist. I encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
This was another fantastic read from this talented author.
Yet again it was jam packed with thrilling action and I couldn't look away.
For me it was the plot that made and saved the book. As I found myself often wanting to shake the two stubborn main characters. But there were also times where I wanted to hug them, especially the male main character.
These books are made extra special with the addition of four legged heroes, and trust me you'll fall in love with the tv addicted one in this book.
As always with this author, expect the unexpected as her many red herrings will throw you off the scent.
Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.
This is book two in The K-9 Special Ops series and it is Brett and Gemma’s story. Brett went through his own trauma in his childhood and also has survivors guilt and now he is a ATF Special Agent with his K-9 dog Blaze and Brett tries to be the best that he can and is so passionate about his job. Gemma is an Insurance Investigator and after being burned more than once she is now independent, needs no one and has trust issues. When Brett and Gemma meet and have to work together to find the arsonist before he strikes yet again the attraction for each other is instant and only grows stronger the more time that they spend together but they have a job to do and can’t be distracted because they are both willing to do everything possible to solve the case regardless of what they have to do or sacrifice in the process. I absolutely loved this book because with Brett and Gemma working closely together was just the icing on the cake and they were so perfect for each other and together but danger is just around the corner watching and waiting for the right time to strike but will they be able to eliminate the threat and bring the person to justice and then work on there trust issues to get the happiness and future that they both deserve. This book takes you right in from the start and kept your attention throughout while having you on the edge of your seat while turning the pages as it is so addictive. This is the first book that i have read by this author but definitely not the last and I can’t wait to read more books in the future.
I just adore the books by this author, but I love this series the most! This book was well written with great conflict. It kept me intrigued from start to finish. I loved the suspense, description and all the feels I got from this story. I loved the chemistry between between Gemma and Brett. These characters jumped off the page. Great summer read! Huge thanks to Netgalley and Entangled publishing for allowing me to read and review this book!
Insurance investigator Gemma prefers to work alone, but her latest case has brought ATF Agent Brett and his amazing dog Blaze in to her life. They agree to work together to solve a series of suspicious fires and their attraction to each other grows the more time they spend together. They both have their own issues, Gemma is determined to prove herself as a woman in a predominantly male world and Brett’s past with fires drives his need to protect others at all costs. They work well together and I enjoyed seeing them work through the clues as a team. Brett’s single minded focus causes issues for them but luckily they manage to work their way through and life threatening situations just make how much they care for each other all the clearer. I loved his dog Blaze’s connection with them both and that Gemma had her family there for her and Brett had his friends. A really enjoyable read with a nice little bit of heat.
Burning Justice, the second book in the gripping K-9 Special Ops series by the talented suspense/thriller author Tee O’Fallon, is riveting and emotional from its opening paragraph. The roller coaster ride of unraveling several unsolved arson cases, one resulting in the murder of two teenagers, triggers nightmares of a tragedy ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner suffered twenty-five years ago.
Along with his K-9 partner Blaze and NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) investigator Gemma Scott, Brett works feverishly to uncover the person(s) responsible for what very well may be multiple cases of insurance fraud. The dialog is fluid and insightful and the characters are realistic…with plenty of action keeping you enthralled and the pages rapidly turning from start the finish.
Just two stories in and this intriguing series has me looking forward to what the K-9 Special Ops team encounters next.
This ARC book was complimentary, and provided by Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.
Exciting page turner. Heartbreaking backstories and relationship issues. A wonderful dog, of course. I did skip over the intimate scenes. A surprise or two along the way, even when the "bad guys" were fairly obvious to the couple. Thanks to the publisher for providing a copy via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
Brett and Gemma
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I work alone, could easily their individual slogan. Brett, for fear he may lose another person he knows/ cares for to fire. Gemma because she has been burned by others taking credit for her work.
Another great story and great set off characters. Very real, flaws and all. We all carry baggage and biases based on the lives we have lived and the ‘times’ we lived. The characters show up with all their baggage and you roll your eyes with the characters interacting with them. The K9s are the secret sauce or glue. You may not feel like dealing with their handlers; but the dogs are always welcomed and well received.
Therapy. Sometimes you do the ‘work’ and think you I don’t need to do that anymore until you see your inner demons in someone else. I loved the vulnerability and the willingness to try to ‘see’ through someone else’s perspective. The grace the characters in the book showed to one another.
Gemma is detailed and organized. Brett is intuition and ‘in your face’. Both are very driven, and they brought who they were to the investigation and sometimes that made it messy, but they regrouped and tried another path.
It was wonderful to get to visit with Deck and Tori from the first book. You would not need to read the first book, to read this one. I cannot wait for Ethan’s story.
Brett and Gemma, along with Blaze, solve a very big arson for profit case. Brett has personal reasons for wanting this case solved, and Blaze is just his awesome side kick trained to identify toxins. Gemma, is a firecracker working alone to renovate her home and solve arsons for the insurance bureau. Some bad luck in her past has her feeling sketchy about working with a partner, Brett is perfect for her career and her confidence. The crime solving team works in sync with each other like they’ve been partnered for years. This book is intense, exciting, and touches your heart. I got to read an early copy and leave this voluntary review.
Burning Justice is the second book in Tee O’Fallon’s K-9 Spec Ops series. It is an action-packed, K-9 law enforcement romantic suspense novel with a fantastic storyline, sizzling passion, and well developed characters.
ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner and his K-9 partner, Blaze are working to discover the arsonists targeting various locations in the area when he meets Insurance investigator Gemma Scott. Both have issues and secrets from their pasts that they are struggling to deal with, but they agree to work together to stop an arsonist that appears to have a deadly agenda. As the attraction and chemistry between Brett and Gemma begins to grow, will they be able to put their problems aside long enough to survive the fires coming? Read it and find out!
Strong, independent heroine with trust issues meets alpha protector struggling with a traumatic past. I loved Gemma and Brett together. They were great work partners and an amazing couple together. I loved how they each saw what the other needed and worked to help them grow and change. O’Fallon is a fantastic author with an amazing talent for writing in the romantic suspense genre. This was a phenomenal addition to this amazing and exciting new series. I can’t wait to read Evan’s story and meet his K-9 partner.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced readers copy received from Netgalley.
looooved ATF special agent Tanner. His back story really helped keep the story going. Not only is this a great romance novel with just the right amount of spice, it also has a mystery to it. While Tanner & Gemma work to solve the case, they also grow closer in more ways than one. The storyline kept me intrigued and guessing who was the culprit behind the fires.
This is a great read with a well-developed story with a strong female lead. Gemma is an insurance investigator who believes she has connected multiple fires for insurance fraud, but needs the assistance of the ATF to get more information to tie it all together. ATF agent, Brent and his K-9 partner, join up with Gemma to figure out who's setting the fires and stop them before someone else gets killed. If you like to read romantic suspense, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I received this advance review copy from from NetGalley & the publisher for my honest review.
Can ATF Special Agent Brett Tanner and his K-9 partner Blaze trust insurance investigator Gemma Scott enough to team up with her to solve some seemingly unrelated fires? The deeper they dig, the more evidence they uncover that shows the fires are related, but now they must prove it. The more he works with Gemma, his respect for her and her knowledge grows, and she’s also working her way into his heart.
Another edge-of-your-seat thriller from Tee O’Fallon! I’m loving this series.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a romantic suspense story with Brett and Gemma trying to find an arsonist. Brett has a background that influenced his decision to joining the ATF and he is still struggling to deal with his childhood trauma. Gemma is a strong, feisty, and dedicated insurance crime investigator who is trying to prove herself after a colleague claimed a case as his own. She grudgingly askes Brett for help in helping solve the case of arsons in the state. He quickly realizes she has good information and that it overlaps with his. As they investigate the fires, suspects and places, they grow closer to a relationship that neither is sure they are ready for. Things grow more dangerous as Brett, Gemma and K9 Blaze narrow down the suspects. There are several twists in the end that add to the depth of the story. The ending gives you hope for the future and a hint as to the next story.
Reading this book will give you an excellent adrenaline rush. You will be on tenterhooks as you turn the pages and get invested in the investigation. ATF officer Brent Tanner is a man on a mission. Along with the fierce NICB officer Gemma Scott they set the pages on fire. The characters along with the wonderful canine are a treat to get to know. The plot is intriguing and will hold readers interest from the first page to the last. Brent and Gemma not only have to fight for their lives, but also their love. This is a must read!
ATF Special agent Brett Tanner has a personal interest in local arson investigations after being injured in a house fire where two people died. Brett meets Gemma Scott an insurance investigator at the scene of a suspicious warehouse fire. Gemma believes there is more going on with a number of house fires and wants to team up with Brett to investigate. These two made a great team along with Brett's K9 Blaze, they were both strong independent characters who had to learn to trust each other. This was an interesting and suspenseful read, a great addition to the series. It was great getting to see characters from the last book as well.
