Totally fascinating and super helpful, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for answers in their working life and especially new career professionals. It was thoroughly enjoyable, and answered questions I didn't even know I had. It motivated me to think bigger, and I appreciated that.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not really sure what readers are supposed to get out of this, but I certainly didn't get it. It just seemed really generic and not particularly useful for most people. Maybe if I was a fresh graduate and hadn't already had work experience...?
Thank you to Urano World Publishing and NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This Working Life by Lisa Leong and Monique Ross is a memoir and guide on navigating a career that holds purpose and encourages readers to take risks to change their life trajectory when there are major life changes or personal epiphanies. Most of this work follows Leong and Ross’ journeys to where they are today and includes some helpful exercises for readers to figure out their personal attitudes towards their careers. This would have been an invaluable resource had there been a more subject-focused approach to career paths though the general information is nonetheless useful for readers to learn from.
I had never heard of the podcast or these women before requesting the book on Netgalley, and I was surprised at how relatable and real some of their advice was. Overall I think it was an interesting book to read if you’re struggling or just starting off with your career. Not all if the advice was useful or relatable to me, but I’m sure it could help some people out!
To be fair, I think I would’ve enjoyed their podcast more than their book, it was a little long-winded at times and I struggled to read through it consistently it took me a while to actually finish it, that’s why I’m giving it only 3 stars. I’m definitely going to check the podcast out though!
Note: received an ARC for unbiased feedback.
good book from a podcast presenter about the changing workforce.
thanks to the publisher and netgalley for the copy for review
I wasn't familiar with this podcast when I requested this book from NetGalley but the cover, title and premise really intrigued me - and now I'll definitely check out the podcast. I love books about navigating your career and am especially interested in how worklife has changed since the pandemic so this checked those boxes for me, plus contained lots of personal stories from the author and others. Some of this wasn't applicable to me in my career stage, but I still enjoyed it.
