Just love Phillipa Ashley books and they never disappoint. This was such a lovely tale of second changes and in a lovely setting it made me smile and made me sad in places but all in all a lovely read. I have recommended this book to a few friends who cant wait to read it.
My thanks as always to Netgalley and Avon Books UK, Avon for the early read
Four Weddings and a Christmas is a warm and entertaining read set in the beautiful Lake District. I loved Freya’s story - always love a strong female lead- and the chemistry between her and Travis was undeniable.
This story has a strong flow of family running through it and both Travis and Freya know what it means to be there for their loved ones. I though the community support was wonderful and loved Freya’s mum’s influencer role. A second chance romance with all the emotions.
I enjoy any book written by Phillipa Ashley and this one once again did not disappoint!
A wonderful read from beginning to end follows the story of Freya and her ex-boyfriend, Travis, who has returned after many years away and sparks fly when they dump into each other.
This feel good book is perfect for this time of with Christmas approaching with thoughts turning to family and love.
A compelling second chances romance that will pull at your heartstrings and have you cheering the characters on! Both of our main characters are damaged from the past, one from an abusive then absent father and the other from an absent father that made the mother hang on too tight. Our female lead has earned a reputation as a runner from relationships and he's known as the wandering traveler. Neither has gotten over the other and now they are plunged back together in the same small town. Can they overcome the heartbreak they endured as teens or will they simply let their second chance slip away because neither can learn to trust the other to stay. These characters are so very realistic that you feel as if you know them. Bits of their psychology fit so many of us today that you feel as if you are living through the plot with them rather than just reading a story. This is my first book by this author, but I can guarantee that I will be looking forward to more books from her as this one really hit a note with me. I do tend to love a series where we see main characters reappear in supporting roles for the new main characters and I must say that I would absolutely love to see Seb's character get a chance to shine in the spotlight. Whether there is another book to follow or not, you should absolutely pick this one up as it is entertaining, compelling and will keep you entertained for hours!
An enjoyable story with various family dramas going on, and old history between the two main characters.
Freya runs a successful business getting holiday rentals ready for visitors in the Lake District. Near Christmas she bumps into an old flame, Travis, who has moved back to the village to open his photography shop and help his sister keep an eye on his younger brother, who always seems to be in a bit of trouble.
Freya and Travis have issues to resolve from when they were younger, and slowly get closer to one another again, initially in a 'no strings' relationship.
Whilst there are four weddings mentioned in the book they're certainly not the main story, nor was it particularly Christmassy, although it was set around the Christmas period. It really could be read at any time of the year. Nevetheless it was an enjoyable story, with some interesting characters (Freya's Mum was very amusing), and a very enjoyable read with a lovely ending.
This was a really lovely Christmas, second chance, childhood sweetheart romantic read. It had a bit of everything in it. I loved the reconnecting with family element with Travis and his siblings, learning about their childhood and the hardships they went though only added to the joy I felt at seeing them come out the other side stronger and banded together.
Freya’s story is a bit different, she lost her dad as a baby and her mum and her grew very close, it was nice to see Freya grow up a bit and see that she was her own person and didn’t have to make romantic decisions based on what her mum thought. She stood up for what her heart wanted.
Watching Travis and Freya navigate a no strings attached relationship was interesting, especially when it was clear they had deeper feelings. I enjoyed Seb a lot, his characters was interesting and identifiable in many ways. He’s lost his way a little, feels there’s no way out, but Travis and Bree try, but also so does Freya, she really cares for Travis family.
It was a lovely read from start to finish, I loved the descriptions of the fells and the Lake District, even in the winter snow it’s beautiful.
Freya runs a cleaning company in the lake district.
Travis returns to the lakes to set up a gallery shop selling his photography. Seb, his brother, needs an eye kept on him as he seems to have lost his way. There seems to be a bit of trouble on the horizon.
Freya and Travis have history. They were meant to get married, but Freya ran away. To be fair, they were only eight. A few years later, they were engaged, but Freya broke it off.
Does she have commitment phobia?
It is a lovely story where the community comes together and helps each other.
There is the odd spanner in the works, but is romance on the cards for the pair?
The scene is set. Christmas round the corner, and it snows, perfect.
A lovely feel-good Christmas read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books for the ARC in return for an honest review.
Phillipa Ashley writes a festive second chance rom-com, set in Bannerdale in the beautiful snowy location of the Lake District in December, with the return of now famous nature photographer, Travis. He is hoping to be able to support his troubled brother, Sebastian, who has given up his love of music and playing his guitar. Travis had left years earlier after Freya Bolton broke their engagement after her mother persuaded her that she was too young to consider getting married. They have other history, Freya at 8 years old ran out of the staging of a wedding to Travis at primary school, earning her the nickname of The Bolter. Whilst Freya has become a successful business woman, running a property development business maintaining holiday lets, she has been unlucky in love, pulling out 2 weeks before her wedding to wealthy local solicitor, Jos Beresford.
Travis is intending to settle, looking forward to establishing his own gallery featuring his work, but the building is in poor condition, putting him under stress and pressure to get it in a fit state to open for the Christmas Fair. He is helped by his good friend, wildlife photographer Hamza, and the timely intervention of Freya offering her business contacts. It soon becomes clear Travis and Freya's attraction is as strong, if not stronger than when they were younger, but Freya does not trust in happily ever after, her history suggests that this is not going to be in her future. However, she wants Travis badly, and subject to conditions, the pair embark on a secret affair, but has Freya misjudged just how deep her feelings for Travis will grow? And will Travis be able to forget a past in which he was so deeply hurt?
This is an engaging and entertaining rom-com, the highlight of which is a terrific supporting cast of family and friends. This included Freya's best friend, Roxanne, getting married to consultant Ravi, Bree, Travis's older sister, married with 2 children, working part time for Travis at his gallery, worrying about his current involvement with Freya and then there is Sandra, Freya's social media influencer mother, away for Christmas on a sunny cruise. I think fans of the author and many other readers will enjoy this delightful festive romance. Many thanks to the publisher for a ARC.
Freya Bolton, the mastermind behind the flourishing business Cottage Angels, excels in her professional life but remains wary of love after past heartbreaks. When she unexpectedly crosses paths with her handsome and single ex-boyfriend Travis, a no-strings festive fling seems like a safe bet. As their connection deepens, Freya grapples with the fear of another romantic setback, raising the question of whether this Christmas might bring the unexpected gift of true love. The novel weaves a charming tale of holiday magic, second chances, and the possibility of finding love amidst the festive decorations and twinkling lights.
A lovely read, all about new relationships, old flames, reuniting lovers and family.
Freya has had her ups and downs with regards to her love life, but when old flame and once time fiance Travis, moves back to town, it throws her into a spin.
I love the beautiful, flawed characters and the theme that family can overcome obstacles if they stick together. The secondary characters were funny and supportive.
A beautiful and festive read that I finished in no time at all. You always know that you'll be tugging at the heartstrings and getting the feels when you pick up a Phillipa Ashley book!
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another fabulous Phillipa Ashley book. It was great to revisit the Lake District at Christmas and read more about the wonderful community of Bannerdale. The story is great with fantastic main characters that you really warm to. The story and the setting make it a perfect Christmas read.
A gorgeously festive story that will be perfect to read this festive season by the Christmas tree, Loved the story and the characters, Another great read from Phillipa Ashley.
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers and of course the author for gifting me this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another festive read I devoured really quickly in one sitting. Full of all the feels you would expect from your christmas holiday books following Travis and Freya in the Lake district who rekindle their romance. I loved the character development as well as the slow burn between them. Such a feel good chick lit
Freya Bolton has had several attempts at getting married but never made it down the aisle.
She runs her own business, Cottage Angels, and is busy getting cottages ready for the Christmas visitors.
When she runs into her ex - Travis - she decides that a no strings attached liaison would be fun.
However, as usual nothing is that simple.
Freya runs Cottage Angels, a thriving holiday home business, with best friend Mimi. When she bumps into ex-boyfriend Travis, who is renting one of their properties, sparks fly. Can Freya and Travis resolve their differences, or is their relationship over forever?
Packed full of beautiful festive descriptions and likeable characters, Phillipa Ashley does it again with another cosy romantic read. Definitely an author I keep returning to!
I received an early copy of this book for an honest review. I would also like to say I have loved and read this author's books for a long time and have always admired her skill in telling such emotionally driven romantic stories. She most certainly did not disappoint again. This was such a lovely tale of a second chance at romance, which is not usually my thing, but worked here so beautifully. The story is fleshed out so well that our main female character does an excellent job of soul-searching to find the love for the male main character she never relinquished. Throw in all the festive Christmas activities in a small village and it is the perfect romantic story of love conquering all. I will definitely add this to my holiday reading list and will read it again and again.
There are some authors who you always return to, and this is one such author. Even better when there is a Christmas book to be able to indulge in too!
Freya Bolton runs Cottage Angels in the Lake District, preparing rented homes for holidaymakers and the like in the area. Business is booming and it is the little touches, like hampers and gifts that make her business stand out. In the run up to Christmas, Freya is going to be busy.
Being busy with work means Freya has no time for love, she has turned her back on that after a few disastrous relationships and does not want to repeat it. When Travis rocks up in town, a flame from her youth she thinks that perhaps a bit of Christmas fun is all she needs to soothe her spirit.
Travis having travelled the world as a nature photographer, is back in his home town. Fractious relationships with his siblings means he has returned for a while to help his sister. Little does he know that the place he is staying in is run by Freya, a flame from his youth.
As sparks fly between Freya and Travis, will the Christmas spirit be able to ignite an old passion, or will circumstances of both of their pasts put an end to it once and for all.
Phillipa Ashley does it again, with a novel packed full of likable and humorous characters as well as troubled ones and sets it against the backdrop of the Lake District. We have been here before, and if you are a fan of her novels, there will be recognisable names. But that does not distract from the story in any way, just means you have more novels to catch up on!
Perfect descriptions of all things festive as well as the beauty of nature that Travis captures in his photography. That leapt off the page as if you were flicking through a photo album. Add in the romance and you have the perfect Christmas read, in fact the perfect read for anytime you need some cheer.
Freya has a bumpy history when it comes to romance, beginning with Travis when she left him at the altar during a mock wedding at school and then Jos, calling off their wedding only weeks before it was to take place.
Now years later Travis has moved back to the village to set up a photography business and very quickly they establish a secret no strings fling.
Such a nice, cosy, romantic read that ends exactly how you want it to but not before they overcome several hurdles along the way.
It was a pleasure to read this festive book set in the Lake District and the beauty of the fells.
Freya and Travis had a complicated past, unpicking this is the basis of the plot in the beginning and how they adjust to being back in each others' lives. A bright, easy read that offers drama, chemistry and some light-hearted entertainment.
This is the first book that I have read by the author and it definitely won't be the last.
This was such a perfect festive novel. I was hooked from the very first page and kept reading until the end. A brilliant novel that I highly recommend.
💖 Thank you to netgalley and the author, Phillipa Ashley for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
