Although this wasn't my favourite book by this author. It was enjoyable non the less. I liked seeing the characters that have come before and meeting new ones. All in all a good read.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for my early copy of Four Weddings and a Christmas, the perfect Christmas story, just as you's expect from Phillipa Ashley who never disappoints.
A romantic, feel good Christmas story with roaring fires and festive cheer. An absolute pleasure to read and I do enjoy Phillipa’s books, they would brighten any book readers Christmas. An absolute joy.
Phillipa Ashley is one of my favourite authors to go to when I want romance and a gentle easy read. She always makes me feel good and relaxed. I love the lake district so connect to the area. A great book and highly recommend. I have read all of Phillipa's books and wait patiently for her next one.
A good story, and set in my Lake District which is always good. It was well written, and the story developed nicely. The characters were great, and I did enjoy reading it.
My only gripe is that the author has taken liberties with geography, which is often understandable with authors. However, in this case I could see a great flaw in setting the location near to the previous book, which is not possible, after working out where the town is meant to be. But I am a bit of a purist, and most readers will not notice this, so don't let me put you off a fun book!
A delightful Holiday Season book set in the Lake District that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. The perfect book for a quiet day in front of the fireplace.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this Arc in exchange for an honest review.
Another wonderful seasonal read from Phillipa Ashley which had me hooked from the start. Set amongst the dramatic scenery of the Lake District the book gives more than a flavour of the area. Delightful characters in a close knit community pulling together when needed. A little predictable as Freya and Travis, the main characters sort themselves out after their somewhat chequered history. I did get a little irritated with Freya at times with calling the shots then being frosty and reading too much into things when her feelings changed but it didn't spoil the overall story and thank goodness for Roxanne sorting her out.
(4.5)Phillipa Ashley is an Oxford educated author of “uplifting romantic fiction.” Her 2006 debut novel, Decent Exposure, was developed into the Lifetime TV movie 12 Men of Christmas starring Kristen Chenowith.
This novel lives up to its title! Though, by my count, there may have been 5 weddings? Solidly 4.5 weddings. At any rate, it’s somewhere between the Enemies to Lovers and Friends with Benefits tropes. Freya rekindles a past romance with Travis, a previously jilted lover. The story is set in the Lake District at Christmas, and the main characters are entrepreneurial business owners who have had to make their own ways in the world before realizing that their lives are better spent together—but is it too late for them after years spent apart? Throw in a wacky middle-aged social media influencer and a very healthy dose of family drama, and you’ve got a thoroughly entertaining holiday! If you are looking for a book to curl up with by the fire this season, give this one a shot!
Freya has been burned by relationships in the past, including one with her ex-Travis. She’s therefore shocked to find he’s now rented a cottage for which she’s responsible for as part of her cleaning business. The story follows them as they keeping crossing paths and are forced to work out whether they can have any kind of relationship, just friends or more?
The book reels you in from the outset with great characters and story that keeps you wanting to read a few more pages each time you pick it up. Overall this is another fab read from one of my favourite authors.
4.5 stars
Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for my advanced copy. This review is my own honest opinion
Set in the Lake District, Freya runs a holiday cottage servicing business. When she discovers that her ex-fiance, Travis, has taken a long-term let on a cottage, old feelings resurface. Will it be third time lucky for them?
This is a heartwarming story, I just wish it had been a little more Christmassy.
What a heartwarming story set in the picturesque Lake District.
I really enjoyed getting to know Freya and Travis. From an opening that almost alarmed me at first until it was explained in more details, to their first re-meeting many years later, this story has it all.
Travis had a tricky family dynamic, but has made a success of his life, but he is worried about younger brother Seb. Freya seems to be slightly commitment phobic in her personal life but is running a successful business.
Some of my favourite funny moments in this story involved Freya's mum as she is opening things sent to her for her Instagram account.
I was in awe of Travis' talent and the descriptions of some of his photos were so vivid I felt as though I could really see them.
This had a warm and cosy vibe to it, that I was loving. It was easy enough to read despite my post COVID jab exhaustion, and I was able to follow everything and be keen to keep reading. It was a really lovely story and another sure fire hit for this talented author.
Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for this copy which i have reviewed honestly and voluntarily,
Five star all the way, as are most of Philippa Ashley's books. The beautiful Lake District, combined with the story of Freya and Travis , makes for a very compelling and enjoyable read.
Thank you for giving me the chance to read and review this book which I really enjoyed reading.
While the book did include references to Christmas, such as decorations, holiday traditions, and even a snowy setting, it failed to fully capture the essence of the festive season. I longed for that warm and enchanting atmosphere that makes Christmas books so special.
However, the author masterfully crafted a tale that tugged at your heartstrings, evoking a wide range of emotions as you followed Freya's trials and triumphs. Whether it was her moments of despair and heartbreak or her moments of joy and triumph, you couldn't help but feel every emotion alongside her. The story had an undeniable charm that drew you in and kept you hooked until the very end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for allowing me to read and review this book.
Another festive hit from Phillipa Ashley. An interesting plot which kept my interest through the ways the characters’ back stories were developed throughout the book. The characters were well written and likeable and I enjoyed the way their lives were interwoven, and seeing their relationships develop. The lovely Travis was a big hit and such a caring character, I just wanted to give him a hug. There is a festive thread running through the book but it doesn’t overwhelm or overshadow the main story, which is a lovely read and highly recommended. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book.
In this heartfelt story, love and happiness are on the back burner just waiting to be rekindled.. It's all about balancing life skills.
I enjoyed this warm and realistic
book immensely. A feel good read filled with optimism and
romance. Such a compelling tale.
Another brilliant novel from Phillipa Ashley! Freya is a very likeable main character, there is a beautiful Lakes background, and it’s set at Christmas - a perfect combination. Skilfully plotted and beautifully written, I will definitely be recommending this book!
Love Phillipa Ashley books. Freya is getting her business Cottage Angels ready for all the guests coming to the cabins for Christmas. She's shocked to find her ex Travis has booked one of the cabins
Fantastic read set in the Lake District. Travis is back home ready to face his demons in the village he grew up in. As he enters his longtime rent the first person he sees is Freya the one that got away. What can go wrong! Expertly written with the usual Phillipa Ashley twists.
Great festive read
This is my first book from Phillippa but it is like a hug in a book. Freya lives in the stunning Lake District and this is a story of giving love a second chance with the backdrop and magic of Christmas. A fab book from this author.
I look forward to a new Phillips Ashley novel, especially at Christmas so I was so excited to receive this copy. I so wasn’t disappointed and devoured it in one sitting. The romantic pull between Freya and Travis was very powerful and believable but their damaged childhoods were equally powerful and could easily have destroyed their romance. I loved some of the supporting characters such as Freya’s mum who was a social media influencer in her older years and Travis@s equally damaged younger brother.
The description of some of Travis’s photographs were also so vivid - I could so picture that hare and red squirrel. Absolutely perfect Christmas read.
