Why, as a woman, do you write such horrible MMC when real men already exist? Am I not supposed to root for this couple? Because that guy (what's his name already? something dumb, that's all I remember) was so selfish and insufferable, omg. The pacing was also weird, it dragged when it shouldn't and the interesting parts were way too short for my liking. the only redeeming grace to this book was the letters. Those two were simply the sweetest couple ever which balanced the other two idiots. A mid read on my part.
I really enjoyed The Christmas Love Letters and got caught up in the story and characters. I would definitely recommend adding it to you holiday reads! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
I don't know if it was because it was an ebook ARC or what but the formatting was all messed up and weird. The story was honestly a little too boring for me and I ended up not finishing it. If you really love Christmas books, you may like it. But I just found it to be blah.
Wow, wow, wow, I loved this book so much. Blended families always make for such interesting reads and this was no exception. A missing father, love stories old and new and an unconventional family arrangement make for a lovely heart-warming story perfect for the festive season.
Maddie is a carer for her great Aunt and a meeting unearths secrets that are difficult to tell. It is very sensitively written and it is very interesting to hear the story unfold from the very old letters her aunt has kept for years. A lovely book about secrets, family, reunions and long held wishes. A lovely book.
This book felt like a slog - there is Mandy’s back story with her missing husband, as well as a burgeoning relationship with Raff. Plus Ruthie’s back story (married lover and illegitimate child). I found it difficult to become invested in any of these threads. I found Raff to be childish, how can I be expected to warm to a love interest who ghosts the main character as soon as the going gets tough? I found the behaviour of Ruthie’s new discovered family to be appalling (raising and then dashing her hopes for a meeting) and then, as soon as they meet, Ruthie is talking about changing her will … felt a bit like financial abuse!
An okay read, but don’t expect to like any of the characters.
Read and reviewed in exchange for a free copy from NetGalley. I've enjoyed previous books by Sue Moorcroft and this was another enjoyable read. The story was engaging and well-written.
Lovely heartwarming story of family secrets, lost loves and family. Sue moorcroft writes beautifully and draws you in to her tale and the characters. A cosy read perfect for a chilly night
This was super cute— I love a feel-good Christmas story and this one delivered. (It should have been a quicker read but Christmas was busy busy this year and I read it with crossed eyes as I was falling asleep late every night—but that didn’t take away from the story at all). Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
Madddie's Aunt Ruth has a hidden history of true love, recorded in letters. Maddie's life is about to change, perfect reading for a cold winter's day .
It's Christmas and what better time to read a lovely Christmas novel. And being a fan of this author and being a fan of Christmas I couldn't wait to read this one. And what a lovely read it was.
Love the characters, the setting, I felt I was there. A great read, a feel good book and one that took me no time at all to devour. There is humour and love, there is romance and emotion, there are secrets and heartbreak. It has it all and I enjoyed every minute of reading this book.
Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
One of my favourite things about Sue Moorcroft has to be how steadfast she is. I know I can always count on her for a story that gets me in the feels, that has just that inkling of "what if that were me?". And The Christmas Love Letters is no different.
Now, let's be real, Christmas is undoubtedly what this author does best. But with this one, I definitely had some moments of "oh, right, this definitely reads like a Sue Moorcroft-book', you know what I mean? Luckily, though, that sprinkle of 'je ne sais quoi' is the opposite of a problem - which made this one a perfect read for the lead up to Christmasi
Really lovely festive read for Christmas. Perfect balance of lighthearted humour, romance and angst.
I did feel however the ending/epilogue was sickly sweet - it did have me rolling my eyes!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my review.
One thing I appreciate immensely about Sue Moorcroft's books is that you know exactly what you're getting when you pick one up. This book has all the hallmarks: realistic and lovable characters, a strong feeling of community, and a heartwarming story.
But don't be fooled into thinking this all story takes place in some utopian little village where nothing bad ever happens. There are plenty of lies and secrets, emotional and physical hurt, heartbreak and loss.
Part Christmas romance, part family drama, but full of heart on every single page. A delightful read, like always.
The perfect cozy christmas read! I love a book that is not just feel good, but has the perfect balance of heartache and grit. This book is absolute perfection! The relationships between the characters are complicated and beautiful. I love diving into history and seeing it woven into the present, an excellent read!
f you’re looking for a Hallmark Christmas romance, look no further!
I loved this story. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but the payoff is worth it!
The ending felt a bit rushed (but aren’t all of these Hallmark Christmas style stories?), and I could have done without the epilogue, but it checked all the holiday romance boxes and I recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a heartwarming holiday romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this eARC.
Heart warming and at times heart wrenching, but so, so good!
I really loved this book, as I do with every one of Sue Moorcroft's stories. She has earned her title 'Queen of Christmas feelgood novels'!
The characters were great and the situations they were in gave plenty of opportunities to tug at the heart strings. I found myself needing tissues quite a few times throughout this story.
Maddy is a strong woman, she's had to be after her husband disappeared and left her in debt. She's caring and always puts others above her own happiness, but with Raff there seems a chance for her to find love and happiness.
I loved Raff as the hero of the story, and I especially loved that he's an author. A fantasy author at that!
The setting really came alive and the vivid depictions of winter in Nelson's Bar transported me there. The supporting cast were excellent, Great Auntie Ruthie especially. It's her backstory woven through the book that leads to so many of the emotional moments.
I love an epilogue and this one rounded off the wonderful tale perfectly.
Another excellent Christmassy 5 star read.
Loved this warm hug of a book. Sue Moorcroft never disappoints and I always await her new book with eagerness!
Loved the characters and the warmth and sincerity of the novel. Highly recommend
What a fantastic book. Loved going back in time with the letters a lovely story. Characters were amazing and I loved how the story progressed.
Sue Moorcroft is an author whose annual Christmas book is one I always look forward to. She writes with heart, about relationships and holiday magic. The Christmas Love Letters is set in the small village of Nelson's Bar on the Norfolk Coast. Six years earlier, Maddy Cracey's husband left the house in anger and frustration and has not been seen or heard from since. In the meantime, Maddy had a daughter (she was pregnant when Adey disappeared) and has moved in with her Great Aunt Ruthie. She rents out her cottage to make ends meet and is Aunt Ruthie's care giver. A handsome man named Raff shows up at Aunt Ruthie's with a packet of Love Letters from Ruthie to his father. There are secrets shared in those letters that change their lives, for the better?
I really enjoyed this story of family, friendship, survival, romance, forbidden love, new beginnings and more. The Christmas Love Letters is a well-written and plotted story with heartbreak and more. My emotions were all over ranging from anger, sadness, joy, and more. The romance was an important part of the story, but not the whole story. I loved Aunt Ruth and Lyla, Maddy's daughter. They were the important ones in her life and they had wonderful relationships. Aunt Ruth or Granty Ruth as Lyla called her was more like a mother and grandmother to them. Maddy is a strong woman, one who figured out how to stand on her own two feet, survive and provide a stable environment for her daughter. She still doesn't know what happened to Adey, although she still wonders, she has moved on with her life. There is a mystery, secrets, family drama and more in this one and it was a wonderful story with an uplifting and heartwarming Christmas message.
