Enemies to lovers is the best. This was a great read!

An easy read, with some enjoyable elements.
I wouldn’t say it kept me gripped but it was a nice easy read

This one was not for me. I couldn't bring myself to root for the characters or their romance, so ended up DNFing it which is sad cause the premise seemed so good!

This was a fine romance. It definitely read like a slow burn. It was a fine book to read while on my commute

as far as the story goes it was really great, i only didn't like the Eva plot - i think it wasn't really necessary but it wasn't too bad either.

While I truly did love Chuck as a MLC, something about Isadora felt a little off. Along with that, I would have enjoyed if this story had been longer. Maybe if it showed more of Chuck and Isadora's daily interactions? I feel like we were robbed of that.

Nonetheless, I liked the banter between the two leads, and I always appreciate when characters love books and writing as much as me, so that was a plus.

Fairly predictable rom com but it was still a good read that I enjoyed it. It was also a quick read.

Decent enemies-to-lovers romance. It may have been just me, but I thought Isadora was just mean to Chuck. They were such enemies at the beginning of the novel that I found it hard to believe they would ever get together! But, the writing was strong and I enjoyed the eventual romance that played out.

A haaaaaaaaaaaard dnf. Ok, I gave it several ties and it just wasn't it. Months wasted and I can now safely say...not it for me. Book isn't bad in general but we were just not a good match. So like a good millennial I will simply swipe to nope.

TL;DR:
- 3.5 stars
- Content warnings: death of a parent
- A REAL enemies to lovers between two bar owners in a seaside California town.

Liked:
- Y'all I am not exaggerating - the enemies to lover trope in this one was as real as it gets. I am personally so tired of lukewarm enemies who are just mad that they're attracted to each other.. These two made each other ANGRY and it wasn't even sexual. Just mad! I like that. I really do.
- I loved the love interest, Chuck! He was by far the most likable character and to me and the most interesting, though his "woe is me, I'm rich" behavior was at first annoying. His actions felt the most explained by plot points of all of the characters, in a way that the lead Isadora definitely did not benefit from.
- Surprisingly, I really liked the pacing of this book. I know some people felt like it was too quick for them to get lovers, but all things considered I think the timing made sense, and Eva was a distraction that confused the timeline unnecessarily.

less into:
- Every character was a bit of a caricature of themselves and every scene reinforced the stereotypes via a lot of telling, not action (with the exception of Chuck).
- Isadora was not my favorite lead. She owned a literary bar but felt superior to mainstream romance. She was a lyrical poet but couldn't understand why her dad felt signs of his late wife in everyday life because it wasn't "logical." She was pretentious and insecure on the page, but there wasn't a ton of explanation for why that was the case other than a couple of flashbacks. What brought Chuck to life in the book was interacting with his parents, and Isadora didn't have that. Most disappointing to me: she didn't have a real growth arc. She mainly retained her qualities.
- Eva was very unnecessary in the context of Isadora and Chuck's romance. There were unanswered questions with it and IMO it was storyline that should have been cut entirely in edits.

Pick up for excellently done enemies to lovers!

Isadora and Chuck are rival bar owners, opening next door to each other the same day. An enemies to lovers story. Looking forward to more from this author.

This is a pretty standard tale of enemies to friends (or at least rivals to more) with a bit of extra when it comes to the characters themselves.
Two people with completely different lives end up opening extremely different bars next to each other. They share a wall, and although they do not have a common clientele, they end up rubbing each other the wrong way. That last part may be more on one side than the sentence, which may lead the reader to believe. For once, we have an annoying female lead who is still likeable underneath it all. She just has a lot of preconceived notions to give up.
Isadora has worked hard to get where she is and is not willing to let anything stand in her way. She is a little prejudiced against a lot of 'popular fiction' and ends up needing more than a little push in order to open up and try newer things and not be extremely stuck up.
She does learn to work on these and does acknowledge the presence of such thoughts even before she works her way through them, which is a bonus.
Chuck is a more common character. He has had an easy life because his parents' lifestyle has paved the way for things to go a certain way for him. He has to face his choices in life, not least because his neighbour keeps throwing it in his face. He is restless and wants to redefine his life but has trouble figuring out where to start.
By the end of the book, the two of them find a common path they can walk, making it a fun read. There were some unexpected twists in the story, and I would recommend this to fans of the romance genre (especially those who like turbulent starts). I would read another book by the author if and when I get the chance.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

As someone who is obsessed with watching bar-themed bookstores on social media, this novel was a must-read for me. Every book lover, especially romance readers, will enjoy (and envy!) Isadora's adventures and her ideal job. This novel has everything: the enemies to lovers trope, opposites attract romance, witty banter, and the forced proximity trope. It's a cute take on the classic romcom - this time with a book savvy heroine I couldn't help but relate to! This was a fun, light and breezy read.

I did not finish this one, it was not for me, I couldn't relate to the characters, and just did not care for the story.

I’m not a fan of this book. The first chapter was a little confusing. I found the characters to be slightly annoying.

Make Me a Double is a cute and fun read with enemies to lovers - my favorite! The only thing I didn't love is the slow burn aspect of this, but that being said, the romance was so well done that I didn't mind it too much.

Make Me a Double

The good: the cute of it. The MFC is someone you can get behind, with dreams, a love for books, and a big heart. You want to root for her.

Chuck is set up as the jerk from the first meeting (a necessary evil for enemies to lovers), though it started a little rockier than I hoped. (I want insta-attraction at least, but that’s me.)

The meh: it took a bit for me to get into it, but I got there. Who doesn’t love bantering?? It’s the bread and butter of enemies to lovers.

Okay, once I start rhyming, the review should end.

It’s a 3.6 in my book, which, of course, gets rounded. 💪🏽

Make Me a Double by Raina Joy Wilder

Isadora has opened a literary themed bar and Chuck runs the sports bar competition next door that opens on the same day.

Fabulously well written romcom featuring to polar opposites Chuck and Isadora . Follow the trials of the two and the many characters in this fun read to find out whether love will win in the battle wills where nothing is really as it seems and the fantastic journey along the way with the many twists.

A resounding 5/5
