This new thriller by Danielle Stewart is a must read for anyone who enjoys suspense and mystery.

This story is told through the viewpoint of 2 characters, Chris and Laura, who are on a quest through Chris’ podcast, to find out who murdered their college friend years ago.

This group of friends all have their own secrets, which one by one are revealed through the podcast investigation.

A gripping story that will leave you wondering right until the very end.

I was very pleased with the plot as it was very fast paced and engaging throughout.

Thanks to NetGalley, Danielle Stewart, and the publisher for this ARC. The Girl at the Party debuts on July 12, 2023!

I’ll dive right in and say that this is quite a slow burn… and it does take awhile for pieces to fall into place. I found that the main two characters, Chris and Laura, a little draining to start with but once other characters came into place it was an easier listen. There are some twists and turns, and you don’t find out what happened until the last 5% of the book.

I would have loved to get to know Stephanie a little bit more, as it’s a rarity that we are in her head. She was the outkast of the group and appeared to be troubled in her last few days of life. Considering she was the “girl at the party” I’d have liked a little more story from her.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with the audio-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. ✨

This one held promise, especially for someone like me who enjoys stories involving podcasts and true crime. The inclusion of these elements initially intrigued me. However, I found the pacing of the story to be quite slow. Not much seemed to happen until the very end, and even then, the resolution felt rushed.

One aspect I did appreciate was the handling of the past timeline. It was skillfully executed by the author, making it easy to follow and understand.

To be honest, if it weren't for the narrator, Stephanie Cannon, I may have given up on the story early on. Cannon's performance was excellent, keeping me engaged with her varied tones and inflections throughout the audiobook.

I would like to extend a special thanks to Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for providing me with a complimentary copy of the audiobook.

The story follows Laura and Chris who try to solve the murder of Stephanie, one of their college friends, through Chris's podcast. At the same time Laura tries her best to save her completely dependent brother, Jake.

Jake gets on my nerves. I can understand that he has a disability, but I feel like he uses his disability to take advantage of his sister. However, I liked the fact that he did something selfless at the end. Their mother is terrible too. One of the worst people I've read about. Laura and Chris are so cute and I like they didn't end up together the moment the case closed. I would like to see them together but as Chris said Laura needs to heal before they give it a try. Nicholas is the guy best friend that I'd love to have.

Overall, I really liked the plot of the book and it was a pretty easy to listen to on one sit. It actually got me, I couldn't predict who the killer was. I would recommend this book to people that like cozy mysteries and not that much of an action-packed cases.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC'
And props to the narrator for the amazing job.
five years after the murder of his friend goes unsolved, Chris decides to use his viral podcast to try to find answers as to what happened to her that night. In the process, he ends up uncovering some of the darkest secrets that his friends had kept from him.
I was into this book since the first chapter and I enjoyed it all the way until the ending. I did guess quite a bit of what was about to happen, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It is kind if a slow burn so be prepared. Although it does not feel long or dreadful at all.

ARC audiobook provided in exchange for an honest review.

The narration of this book worked very well with the description of the characters. Stephanie Cannon has a very clear voice and I had no trouble listening to this book within a day! The story is about two estranged friends that start working together on a podcast to solve a murder of a common friend from college where they were all present at a party years back. It has an interesting plot that I found entertaining, but maybe because I read so many books, I saw the twist coming very early on, though some may not. If you’re into psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators check this book out!

3.75⭐️

On a night when a group of friends are celebrating the end of their time in university, one of them is killed.

Flash forward several years, and the case has gone cold. So have the remaining friendships. After one member of the group, now a true-crime podcaster, decides to use his resources to try to finally find her killer, secrets they all were hiding start to be unearthed.

This was a decently engaging if not exactly ground-breaking thriller, with enough action and suspense to keep the reader’s attention. I feel like I’ve read this story a few times before, but I enjoyed it well enough.

Stephanie Cannon did a good job with the audiobook narration.

Thank you Danielle Stewart, Bookouture Audio, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

Stephanie is murdered on her way home from a college party. 5 years later her killer has still not been caught and the police seem to have given up looking.

Her old college friend starts a podcast to try and find new evidence in the case but is met with nothing but resistance from her so called friends.

For the most part I enjoyed this book. Plenty of plot twists and red herrings to keep you from guessing the killers identity. The ending though left me with a few unanswered questions.

This audiobook is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that had me guessing right up to the very end. A highly entertaining listen

Wow. The twists and turns and unexpected character development in this book was so good. I was guessing the entire book what might have happened and "who done it", and I was wrong over and over. I was kept on my toes through the whole book and it ended in a way I never expected. I'm impressed, and will definitely recommend this one!

Stephanie was killed five years ago while leaving a college party that she didn’t even want to attend. The police ruled it a random attack, but now her friends Chris and Laura are making a true crime podcast to uncover what really happened that night. Interviews with the friends that were at the party that night result in Laura and Chris getting threats as the get closer and closer to the truth. Will they discover what really went down and why? Read this one to find out!

This was a bit of a slow burn at first, but once it got going, I started questioning EVERYONE’s motives and trying to figure out who actually killed Stephanie. I did not figure it out! I loved the dual POV between Chris and Laura, and the flashbacks to the party. The way that Danielle Stewart told this story was definitely intriguing. I think it was a great debut and look forward to seeing what she puts out next.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me this audio ARC.

Very unexpected read!
I have not read this author before and was happily surprised!
This book revolves around an unsolved murder case.
A young girl (Stephanie) was just about to graduate from college. Her friend Laura coerced her to go out, supposedly for dinner, but ended up taking her to a frat party. The last place she wanted to be. They get into a fight, and Stephanie leaves, to walk home alone. She was found murdered the next morning.
The case is investigated, but the cops think it was a robbery gone bad…and so the case goes cold.
It’s told from alternating points of view. Laura and Chris are the main characters. They have NOT kept in touch since graduating, although they and their group were very tight knit in college.
Laura was supposed to be a nurse…but that didn’t work out.
Chris is a well known podcaster, and decides to investigate Stephanie’s murder to try to find out who killed her. He brings Laura in to help him…and the plot thickens.
They begin investigating everyone who knew Stephanie…
And, they start to get threats. Their friends stories seem to have some holes… and everything starts to unravel!
Great read! Lots of twists. Lots of mouth hanging open moments!
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me!
Thanks to NetGalley And Bookouture for the ARC of the audiobook!
Release date is soon… July 12th, so look for it!

Wow! I had the good fortune of receiving the audiobook version of The Girl at the Party. The narration by Stephanie Cannon is superbly done! Her pleasant voice is clear, well paced and very easy to listen to.
The story is beautifully/artfully written- descriptive writing and masterful use of literary devices. Each chapter identifies character point of view and timeline, that alternates between 2013 and 2018. The storyline is easy to follow but you won’t see the ending coming!
I highly recommend it!
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture Audio, and Danielle Stewart for the opportunity to enjoy the audiobook version of this this ARC.

This was definitely an entertaining listen!

Most of the characters in this story were completely unlikeable. I cant think of one other than Nicholas and MAYBE Chris that were somewhat ok. With that said, it was still an enjoyable thrilling story.

I did see the twist coming as soon as I learned one bit of information, but it was super entertaining to see it all unravel.

I would recommend this book to read or to listen to!

This was a quick read. There was alot of back and forth not only between characters but past and present. It was a little bit hard to follow as an audiobook. Nice quick read.

The Girl at the Party" by Danielle Stewart

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture Audio for the advanced copy. Despite high hopes, "The Girl at the Party" by Danielle Stewart was a disappointing read. The characters came across as shallow and unlikable, and the plot was riddled with cliches and overused tropes.

The narrative centers around two friends who, for reasons that felt overdone and unoriginal, decide to tackle a mystery together. This worn-out premise, coupled with the characters' lack of depth, created a disconnect that made it hard to invest in their journey.

Moreover, the pace was sluggish, and the story lacked the thrilling, unexpected plot twists that make a crime novel truly gripping. It felt like treading through familiar territory rather than exploring a unique and captivating narrative.

However, for die-hard fans of true crime, thrillers, and podcasts, there might still be elements of enjoyment in this novel. Unfortunately, these weren't enough to make up for its shortcomings in my view.

The Girl at the Party is an exciting story of a group of college friends that are trying to solve the years-old murder of one of their friends.
I got to listen to an ARC of this audiobook from NetGalley and the author/publisher, and I am glad I did. It was a good “read”!
A young podcaster decides to roll the dice and kill two birds with one stone—solve a murder that hits close to home and do his job. He enlists the help of his friend Laura who has issues of her own, dealing with a seeming shady brother.
Once they start the interview process in the podcast, the uncover lots of secrets and questions of people they thought they knew. But who can be trusted? And what really happened the night Stephanie died?
You will be shocked to hear whodunnit and how it happened!

Note: I did like the narration of this book, although I prefer males to do male voices and females to do female ones. However, this narrator did a good job doing both genders. It was not distracting or hard to listen to. Well done choosing this narrator!

I just finished The Girl at the Party audiobook and enjoyed it. This book is a slow burn murder mystery. We follow college friends who are reopening the case of their friend's murder for a podcast. You get dual timelines and dual point of views, which slowly unravel what occurred the night Stephanie was murdered.

The audio book was easy to listen to and the narrator did a great job.

While I really enjoyed the book, it was less of a thriller and more of a mystery. At times there were slow sections. I would look up trigger warnings prior to reading if you are sensitive to certain subject matter.

I would read another book by this author.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio and Netgalley for the ARC.

All I can say is OMG! I was not expecting the ending! The book is very well written and kept me interested the entire time. I love how it was told from three different perspectives, so that you could see how different a situation looks to everyone involved. I will have to see if I can find more from Danielle Stewart.
