Thank you for the Audiobook ARC @Netgally
After their very last party of college a group of friends find out one of the girls in their group is found dead. Her name was Stephanie everyone seems to grieve and move on very quickly leaving her case to become cold.
One of the guys decides to become a crime podcast host and insists on reopening the case. He starts to reconnect with his old group of friends and starts asking questions. One person doesn't like it and so it begins...
My thoughts:
The narrators in this audiobook did a really good job beginning these characters to life. I was hooked immediately after the first page. I wanted to know what would happen next. I would highly recommend you checking out the audiobook. The twist and turns were so good! I didn't figure it out until the last minute.
This is a classic holiday thriller read. Everyone is a victim, you're never quite sure who the killer is. The dual POV perspective worked really well and it helped the story to see how the characters viewed each other. I was never truly sure who the killer was and there was a lot of red herrings weaved into the story to make you suspect everyone. A really enjoyable thriller with a great payoff!
Loved this audiobook!! This story had me engaged from beginning to end.
After the last college party for a group of friends, one of the girls Stephanie leaves and is murdered. All of the other friends move on, but years later one of the guys becomes a crime podcast host and decides to cover Stephanie’s murder. He connects with his former classmates to dive into the day and night leading up to that party and uncover the truth. Several twists and turns throughout the story, some revelations more predictable than others, but overall a very entertaining read.
I received an early copy of this book through NetGalley and Bookouture in exchange for an honest review.

Narration: Excellent storytelling by Stephanie Cannon
Recommend: Yes
A group of friends gathers for a party, when one leaves, the others are having too much fun to pay much attention. But when she turns up dead, the others are struck with survivor’s guilt. As they try to come to terms with the death of the group’s “good girl”, they discover that Stephanie had secrets and that she was far from the innocent young woman she portrayed. As the truth surfaces, so does the killer, determined to make sure that some secrets stay buried
I both listened and read this twisty suspense novel. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns of the book. It constantly has you blaming one person than another. I didn’t figure out the twist until closer to the end. There’s an added punch I didn’t see coming and I liked that!!
The Girl at the Party, by Danielle Stewart
A fabulous, well plotted thriller that had me on the edge of my seat - I didn’t even have an inkling of the truth until around 80% and even then, there were more twists to come - an absolute blinder that I devoured in a day 👏🏻
The story follows a group of university friends, as they reunite, albeit reluctantly in some cases, to solve the mysterious death of their friend, Stephanie, at their graduation party five years ago. Chris is now a successful podcaster and wants to use his platform to raise awareness of Stephanie’s murder, in the hope of solving the crime, but some of the gang are less than happy to have the past dragged up and will go to any lengths to halt the podcast going out on air.
I listened to the audiobook and, as always, Stephanie Cannon’s narration was superb.
5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an ARC in return for an honest review.
This one was a super fast listen for me. This story does a great job of keeping you on your toes and constantly have you second guessing things. Just when you think you know who is at fault, you learn something new about another character and you’re back at the start. I also think that this is an excellent example of you never truly know another person or what they are capable of.
This read is available everywhere July 12th!
The Girl at the Party

I loved this audiobook! It was really well written and had my attention the whole time! I didn’t really like the MC too much, so I was happy there were multiple point of views. Slightly unhappy on how they portrayed the MC’s brother and don’t want to get into spoilers. It was a fun mystery and a quick listen!
I got this arc audiobook in exchange for an honest review through Net Galley. This audiobook was written by Danielle Steward and narrated by Stephanie Cannon.
"So much gray in the world" (Kent)
.
5* all the way to the end. Windfield Avenue will always be a haunted memory for the college roommates. Graduation is coming and the last night to celebrate with friends was meant to be an epic night, but where is Stephanie?
.
Jake is bringing unwelcome drunken girls to the house, Kent & Maryanne are fighting, Chris is professing his feelings for Laura and Lucas is being Lucas. Laura tricks Stephanie into joining them for their last night but when she realizing everyone else is in the house she leaves alone, or does she?
.
Fast forward to today, everyone has gone their separate ways and do not want to bring up that night. Chris on the other hand wants to bring that nights events into his crime podcast with the help of Laura who he has not seen in 5 years. When they start to unravel the events it gets dangerous for them and their college friends. All who have moved on with their lives and doing well. None of them want this brought back up to the surface for fear of ruining their current lives. Jake is still relying on Laura due to his brain injury, Jake still doesn't like Chris, Maryanne and Kent are having a baby, Lucas stands to loose his business and Kent his election. Laura fights to hide what she really knows from that night, trying to stop the podcast she too is finding hidden secrets from the others that leave them questioning what really happened. Jennifer could be the link they need to figure it all out.
.
Danielle left us wanting more at every chapter, questioning where the story is going. Not until the very end do you find out all the truths.
.
I was gifted this (ALC) audio version of The Girl at the Party by @netgalley @Dstewartauthor @bookouture audio for my honest review and I could not have been happier to have been able to do so. Now to get my hands on a hardcopy for my library.
Wow i absolutely loved this book. It was fast pace, well written, and so thought out! I have been getting into audio books over the last couple of months and loved the narrator for this book. At the beginning I did struggle a bit with the time jumps and change of perspective but I don’t consider that a negative cause the groundwork was still being laid. I also have never listened to an audio book with time jumps and multiple perspectives before so I was just adjusting. Overall, incredible book and incredible narration!

Ok, I'm not gonna lie, I hadn't heard of Danielle Stewart before i started this book. I loved the synopsis of it, so I hit request. Once I started listening to the audiobook, I thought, there is no way that this author hasn't written tons of other books (cuz this girl has some serious skill). She HAS written more, and I'm for sure gonna add them to my tbr! This story was so good! I listened in the car, the shower, at work....I didn't want it to end, but I couldn't stop listening! It reminded me a bit of A Good Girls Guide to Murder because of the interviews, but it was even better and far more binge worthy!
Heres the short. Chris has a podcast. He asked his old buddy/crush/roommate,Laura, to team up with him to try to solve their friend Stephanie's murder. Stephanie was killed after leaving Chris, Laura, and the rest of the gangs, house party back in college. They interviewed Stephanie's friends, which made them realize they didn't really know those people they had roomed with back in school....
Finally, at the end, everything comes to light and they do figure it out.....but it was one crazy bumpy ride to get there!
I was gifted this arc audiobook in exchange for an honest review through Net Galley. This audiobook was written by the VERY talented Danielle Steward and narrated by Stephanie Cannon.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC (audiobook version)…in which I am to provide an honest review.
This was a quick read. Started off well, dragged during the middle and then quickly picked up. The various POVs were good; however, the main female character (Laura) was a doormat. Found myself talking out loud…wishing she’d speak up and stop being dense. Just when I had things figured out…hello plot twists. Kudos to the narrator as well…didn’t want to stop listening and was able to knock the book out in a day.
I too have a Jake, but his name isn't Jake. Still, the younger brother you have to take care of- that is so relatable.
I loved this. It was really surprising when we got to the end. The narration was perfect.
I feel like I listened to this exact story in the last month or so. I even went to check to make sure this wasn't a reprint. The narrator was the same. The plot was the same. The only difference was who the killer actually was. It was ok. Held my attention but overdone plot.
1.0 - maybe one of the most Ableist things I have ever read
I think discussions about how women/girls are pressured into caretaker roles and glass children are important conversations to have but, when you have a long big paragraph about how patriarchy hurts women and then follow it up with disabled people are all coddled and need to suck it up. its....not awesome.
Jake is treated less than human and never really given his own agency as a character. The fact that he has a brain injury or the fact that ableism is a legitimate thing are never really addressed compassionately. The book does more to defend misogynistic men than disabled people. Women can have disabilities too and if you wanted to write about feminism you could write about the difference in how disabled men and women are treated.
The rest of the book is fine? Its another one of those “Mysteries” were more than half of the book is focused on the main characters personal life and drama instead of sticking with the case.(view spoiler) It feels soapy and overdramatic at times. That being said I don’t think it is completely incompetent and people could enjoy this .
I got this from Netgalley for free in exchange for my review.
Grips like a vice and twists like a rollercoaster. Impossibly clever. Impossible to put down!
It was really hard for me to put this audio book away. I pulled an all-nighter to finish listening to it. The numerous plots and suspense left me, chapter by chapter I read with bated breath!
The Girl at the Party keeps you on your toes! When two college friends embark kn a journey to find the truth about the murder of their friend, they are unprepared for the scandals and secrets they will reveal.
Although I guessed the murdered from fairly early on, that did nothing to reduce the thrill of this novel. I highly recommend for crime novel lovers, especially for those who appreciate true crime podcasts. I'll be keeping my eye out for more books by Danielle Stewart
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Really great audiobook. Narrator really brought this to life.
Laura and Chris embark on a podcast to find out what happened to their friend from college who died after a party they had.
As Laura and Chris dive further into the night of Stephanie’s death they uncover more secrets about their old friends that could upset their current lives. They also encounter some threatening road blocks.
All around enjoyable listen and I couldn’t figure out what the ending was going to be even up to the last hour of the book.
This was an OK thriller which had a few good twists. I enjoyed the narrator which kept me engaged throughout the story, which is why I will rate it a 3 star. The characters fell a bit flat for me and the story was a bit slow. I am glad that i had the opportunity to listen.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for this ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. The blurb sounded excellent but I found it very slow and because of that I had no interest in what was happening and I found the characters to be very wooden. I found myself trudging through this book and I was glad to finish it. I did however like the audible narrator and for that I give it 3⭐️ based on the narrator .
