I have to say that I loved and hated this book. That just goes to show how deeply Kate Hewitt's books make you feel. Ellie, her husband, Matthew, and their three children move from Connecticut to Wales, where Matthew was born and raised, to help his mother run the family inn. It's supposed to be a fresh start for everyone but the children have lived their entire lives in America, so moving so far away from everything that is familiar brings lots of new problems. I wanted Ellie to speak up when her sister-in-law seemed to look down on her when she called something by an American name instead of the English version. And having never had to move or change schools growing up, I sympathized with the children, especially when things were so different. Kate's stories always have such heart and emotion. That's why I keep reading her books.
Thanks to Kate, Bookouture, and Netgalley for letting me read "The Inn on Bluebell Lane".
This was such a lovely read. It was such a good example of what a real family can be like. Tension, talking through it, arguments, apologies, misunderstandings, and making up.
It was easy for me to feel connected to the characters in this book and relate to them. I found myself getting annoyed when they would get annoyed, and joyful when they would be joyful.
This is one of those books that fully transports you and is imposible to put down:) I am excited for the next one!
It was a sweet, and very cozy read that I highly recommend!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
A lovely feel good laid back book easy for summer holiday reading. Ellie and Matthew and their 4 children move from America to live with Matthews Mother to redesign her B&B. Several plot twists along the way but a good Katie Hewitt book. Thanks
To Katie and her publisher. Thanks also to NetGalley
Matthew and Ellie make a decision to move their family from Connecticut to rural Wales to renovate Matthew’s mother’s Bed and Breakfast.
It was a hard move for everyone and the adjustments of finding their place and new friends for both their children and them is tough. The story was well written with the characters each coming together to make the read and easy on for me.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
Thank you NetGalley, Kate Hewitt and Bookoutre for the ARC of The Inn on Bluebell Lane. This is my personal review.
This sounded like a quaint, heartwarming story. However, I struggled to engage with the characters. They were a bit annoying, and there was repetition in the writing that was hard to overlook. I did enjoy the setting and British terminology, and the cover is lovely.
A story of a family uprooting themselves from their life in Connecticut to go live in Wales. Ellie and her husband, Matthew, are going to help his mother get her B&B up and running again. Their 4 children are not happy with this move which causes a bit of a problem for everyone.
The Inn on Bluebell Lane is a sweet, cozy and lovely story with a solid plot.
All in all, a very heartwarming story. I am looking forward to the second book in the series. I need to see how things are going with the family.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Ellie knew it wouldn't be easy to move her four kids to Wales but she didn't expect that Gwen, her mother in law , would be so.....challenging. Her husband Matthew isn't much help, not with Gwen and not with the renovation of the B&B. This is very much about a family coming to terms with big changes- right down to the kids having to change schools and missing their friends- and building a new life. There's nothing really menacing out there but there are difficulties. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. it's a good read.
Leaving her beloved Connecticut behind for a new life in Wales with her husband and 4 children Ellie understandably has concerns. But her husband Matthew wants to return to his native Wales to help his mum in her Bed and Breakfast. With Ellie feeling uneasy about her relationship with Gwen and the children not settling in their new lives will the new beginnings be all that they expect.
This is such a heartwarming read, the start of what I hope will be a cosy series by Kate Hewitt. I love her books, she writes about relatable characters.
I'm under no obligation to leave my review for this advanced copy received by Netgalley and Bookouture
This was a sweet read about family and the struggles of life. I enjoyed seeing how each family member was able to work through issues after a huge move, and also how the family grew closer to each other!
I absolutely adored this family drama novel. I could not stop reading it and it kept me up late into the night to finish it. It was so good! I think alot of women can connect with Ellie. "Chefs kiss" loved it!!
I just reviewed The Inn on Bluebell Lane by Kate Hewitt. #TheInnonBluebellLane #NetGalley

I love Kate Hewitt books and this was no different! Superb writing from this author, a very eye catching cover, this book will go far, 5 stars. Blindingly excellent ...
I really enjoyed this book. I could totally imagine the characters and everything as it happens. It must have been so rough for Ellie to pack up and move across the world, even if she knew it was best for her family. You could empathize with her situation, same with her kids and her MIL. Her husband, however, was super whiny and annoying.
As much as I enjoyed this book, I found that it ended too abruptly. I expected a little more closure, not just BAM and we're out.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC!
Thanks to the publishers and Negalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
I have read and enjoyed Kate Hewitt books before but I just could not get into this one. The characters all just came across as whiny and maybe if I kept going I'd grow to like them but I'm afraid this one isn't for me. DNF.
The Inn on Bluebell Lane was a cozy read that will make you wish for more. Ellie and her husband Matthew uproot their family and move from Connecticut to rural Wales to renovate his mother's B and B. The well described house, village and countryside of Matthew's childhood are appealing and yet…change is hard. Moving and uprooting your children is hard. Trying to make new friends as an adult is hard. I think the author did a good job examining these life changes. This book was a fast read, good for a rainy afternoon with a cup of tea. I hope there will be further books in the series.
I think everyone can agree that almost every reader once dreamed of owning a Bookshop or an Inn in England - and I admit I still dream about it - just pack and move!
This book really showed the aspects what a move ( and WHAT a move - Connecticut to Wales!! ) can do to a family. The struggles of adjusting, the new beginnings are difficult as it is - but throw in some personal struggles too and the move can seem like a big mistake.
Maybe because I usually read Thrillers I was expecting some murders ( lol ) especially as it was written very well and suspenseful but I really enjoyed it and I finished it so quickly! It was a heartfelt book with great characters.
Thank you Netgalley for providing me a copy! This was really a nice " mental " holiday for me on Bluebell Lane.
This was overall enjoyable...I liked the premise and setting, as Wales isn't somewhere I often read about. However some minor annoyances: a lot of the inner monologues seemed like they droned on too long, and secondly, the words and slang used were all British, when the kids would not have picked up on British terms immediately after moving from the US. Just caused me to be a bit irritated at the book..
What do you do when you feel deep within your heart that you’ve made the wrong choice for the right reason? When your “reality feels a million miles away from the idyllic rural bliss” you’d hoped to create for your family - what do you do then? What if your children's voices of regret are louder than those in your head?
You’ll read about Ellie who hesitantly agrees to her husband’s plan to relocate their family to Llandrigg, a tiny village in rural Wales. Eager for new beginnings, Ellie thinks she’s taking over her husband’s family inn and leaving her troubles behind her. She’s in for a reality check.
Ellie discovers that her vision and reality don’t align. Furthermore, she needs to deal with Gwen, the ever-so-stereotypical mother-in-law who just so happens to still live in the house!
When push comes to shove, Ellie needs to dig deep, step back, suck it up and see the big picture. Can she put personalities aside and work towards the saving of Mathew’s family’s farmhouse? Maybe the home can bring them all back together again…
You can count on Kate Hewitt to write compelling and emotional fiction. She’ll have you gasping and tearing up … and questioning if you could pigeonhole your differences to work toward a common good. It’s a good family drama with a heartwarming ending.
I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
A heartwarming, quick read about a family relocating from Connecticut to Wales and navigating family relationships. The characters were hard to connect to and very two dimensional. The word “redundancy” was overused throughout the story and the characters came off as very whiny throughout the entire story.
THE INN ON BLUEBELL LANE by KATE HEWITT is a delightful novel that takes place in the small village of Llandrigg in Wales. Matthew Davies becomes redundant in his banking job in Connecticut and he and his wife Ellie decide to move to Wales with their four children, ranging in age from four years old to thirteen, to help his widowed mother, Gwen, with her B and B.
From Jess’s misery at starting a new school at thirteen and being separated from Chloe her BFF, to Ellie’s barrle to adapt and her rather fraught relationship with Gwen, to Matthew’s grand ideas and lack of DIY skills, one can only expect things to be difficult! Is this the place where the family are expecting to reconnect in a special way and experience new things? ………
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling the read for you.
I enjoy this author and recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bookouture. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
A heartwarming story about a family who have moved to Wales from America. How they settle into life and the things that brough them there.
