This book is Pretty Little Liars meets One Of Us Is Lying but set in a remote cabin. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the characters were so well written. I liked the locked room aspect.

I found Bad Like Us to be rather age-appropriate compared to most YA thrillers I have read. The story is addictive and reads at a good pace. I liked it

I read this book really fast, which was really great, since the last few books I’ve read seemed to take a long time. The plot of BAD LIKE US moves pretty quickly, and the chapters are short– another thing I love in a book!

The story follows two points of view and then includes videos recorded by a third person, so it feels like three different viewpoints. I liked both Eva and Colton, both of whom have real-time scenes from their perspectives. The story has a bit of romance that develops, and I thought that was balanced well against the murder mystery. It never felt like those two story elements were competing with each other. The progression of the romance felt natural.

I liked the setting, too. The whole story takes place at a beach resort in Oregon that one character’s uncle owns. It’s in a secluded area near the beach, which makes it pretty isolated. Some of the characters surf, so there were some scenes featuring surfing. One character is a social media influencer, so there are a bunch of scenes showing her making videos and other people reacting to the way that she behaves and the things she says in the videos.

If you’re looking for a quick read in the vein of Diana Urban or Karen McManus, I recommend this one. I think BAD LIKE US is my favorite of Gabriella Lepore’s books so far.

Note: I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions my own.

Spring break is all sun and fun… until someone winds up dead.

Two groups of friends merge into one as they head to an off grid beach house on the Oregon coast for spring break getaway! Not all of them like each other and as secrets and lies start coming to the surface, one of them is found dead and everyone has a motive… or do they?

This was a quick and entertaining read! The author uses multiple POVs and flashbacks to unravel the plot. There were a couple chapters I felt were unnecessary and some things didn’t make a lot of sense unless you suspend reality a bit. But overall this was a good YA whodunit.

3.5 stars

If you’re looking for a YA whodunit that isn’t bloody, but still clings to a fair amount of suspense, then this may be a really good fit for you.

Taking a look at the large amount of chapters this book had, I was torn between wondering if it’d be a high body count mystery and being worried that it would drag on too much. Thankfully the chapters were pretty short, and I felt that it kept a pretty decent pace overall, so the length held up fine.

Also be aware that there is a lot of “x-weeks ago” or “x-months ago” time hopping. It wasn’t confusing, written more like flashbacks, so it didn’t make it difficult to follow.

My only real issue is that the ending felt like it was wrapped up too quickly. We find out whodunit, there’s a moment of conflict, and then the second to last chapter starts with a time jump to the next day and the last chapter is a time jump of another week I think, the second to last only briefly mentioning what happened and what’s going on with the killer. For as long as the book already was, I feel like it could’ve been given another couple chapters just to give us more substance with the moment of conflict and the aftermath. Unfortunately I’m disappointed enough for it to affect my rating.

Overall I still really enjoyed this book and would recommend it if you’re looking for an easy to read mystery!

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publishing team for this ARC!

This teenage spring break went wrong was a super fun read. I really enjoyed the different POVS, as well as the flashbacks - that being said, I did feel the timeline could get a little blurry and confusing at times. I think the large amount of characters, as well as the jumping timelines is what was really the driving force of giving this novel this 3.5 star review, but I still throughly enjoyed the suspense of the book as a whole. YA books can definitely be hit or miss for me, as sometimes the miscommunication of teenagers can drive me insane, but I think the book was well written, just could’ve used a more concise storyline. Would still recommend!

I really liked this one! It was a super quick YA thriller/mystery with a romance subplot that I was living for. The story takes place over spring break between a group of seniors. I really enjoyed how the mystery part was laid out. We don’t really know what the mystery is until the second half of the book, which was a fun way to build the backstory. With the main mystery there was also a sub mystery that you’re trying to figure out the whole time. Definitely some obvious diversion of the author wanting you to think it’s someone who it isn’t, but I still world see the whole ending coming! Definitely add this to your TBR!

This book is about two friend groups that get together for spring break. One friend group is Alice Eva Danny in miles Danny is a twin brother to Colton who is one of the other friend groups with Carly Havie Noah and the Instagrammer Piper. Piper used to date Danny but now she datesXavier who is also Colton‘s best friend and in any event everyone decides to go to Noah’s uncle Paul’s secluded beach house in Antioch Oregon for spring break. A few weeks before spring break miles who was said to go to Harvard and be valedictorian of his class was expelled for selling test papers something he swears he never did and Eva believes him piper who is only there because she is dating or has dated one of the group loves to be in peoples business and this includes bringing up what happened to miles and also wanting to set the girls up when they stop at a gas station she text Eva it says do you know who did it and when Eva ask her what that was about the Instagrammer clams up. All the kids seem like pretty good teams with the exception of Piper who keeps making everything awkward Eva likes Colton and Colton likes Eva but when they walk away from the group and he tells her this and they hold hands for the first time, piper instantly interrupts them to videotape their interaction. Piper claims to be an empath but she can’t even read the room when all of a sudden they hear Xavier and Danny arguing in the cabin everyone runs in to see that Xavi it’s holding a letter that he believes Danny left on Pipers suitcase this causes a big rift in the good time and they spend the rest of the day clustered in the cabin trying to make sense of what happened. It isn’t until the next night when they have a bonfire that one of the friends will be found dead another will be arrested and yet another will go missing can they figure this all out before something else devastating happens to one of their friends? Furthermore why does everyone think they know who did it and it isn’t the one who got arrested? I know this is a terrible review for an awesome yeah mystery I loved Eva and Colton and thought they were great characters I loved the way she wrote the story where half of it was the weekend and the other half was the police with parts of the recent past thrown in the story definitely moved along quickly when I had to stop reading it to go do something I couldn’t stop thinking about the book and wanting to get back to it this is an awesome yeah mystery and one I definitely totally enjoyed and recommend. I think I can stay with all honesty that there is no way someone’s gonna guess who did it because I was so blown away and although I have been wrong many times in the recent past there’s no way I could’ve guessed the ending of this one what a great read! I want to thank Ink Yard press and Net Galley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Holy shit. What a wild ride.

Is it weird to say I'm proud of Gabriella Lepore? Because I honestly am. I've read all three of her books as arcs, and when I read the second one (the last one to fall) I thought it was a lot better than her first book and I was hoping she was just getting better with every book. I was totally right. I thought this book was her best so far, and I'm really loving getting to see her progress as an author.

This book is so tense and creepy. The setting was very moody and I thought it really added to the plot. It was like a locked room mystery but with more room to play. The story was so tense and fast-paced and intriguing, I literally could not put it down.
The end plot twist was so shocking to me. Normally I guess the killer pretty early on in YA mystery because I read so many of them, but I was NOT expecting it this time. I thought it was so well done and you can totally see the foreshadowing once you know who it is.

I've seen some reviews say they thought that Eva and Colton were flat characters, but I honestly disagree. I think they were both super likeable and interesting. Eva is clearly more impulsive and she cares very deeply about everyone she meets. Colton is a lot more reserved and logical, and his need to protect the people he cares about is so prevalent in his chapters. I mean sure, their POVs were not completely different, but I think that's more because the focus was on the mystery and not on them. At the beginning I kept getting the two of them confused, but once I got past the make 20% mark, I thought it was easy to tell them apart. And I thought they were so cute together!! They were both just very wholesome and sweet and I really liked them together.
I thought all the characters were interesting, especially Piper and Miles, and I think it was overall such a strong mystery. I cannot wait to read her next book, because I know it's going to be even better.

This was a nice quick read when I didn’t have big chunks of time to dedicate to reading. I loved the multiple POVs, short chapters, and likeable characters. With all the secrets, lies, twists and turns I had no idea who did it until the very end. Absolutely enjoyed this book.

This was okay? Not my favorite YA thriller by a longshot but it was fine. It started out with a super "Pretty Little Liars" vibe that I was into, but there wasn't enough character development for me. I couldn't connect with any of them enough to be super invested in what was happening, especially the romance (it was like their connection just came out of nowhere).

I’ll admit I struggled a bit in the beginning with this one. It was a bit slow and there are so many characters to keep track of. The back and forth dual timeline also through me off occasionally. But once the drama started to pick up I couldn’t put the book down, literally, I finished in hours. I really liked that there was a couple smaller mysteries within the big mystery here and I actually didn’t see most of the reveals coming.

It seemed like your average spring break getaway for these high school seniors, or was it? While enjoying their time away from their regular lives one of the friends looses their life and many in the group have reason to take it.
I enjoyed this book, some if the characters are likeable but some really are not. I will be buying this for my school library. Thank you NetGalley for the advanced preview.

Bad Like Us by Gabriella Lepore is a quick thriller that follows Eva and Colton, two strangers who end up in a remote cottage with a group of mysterious guests. As secrets and lies start to unravel, they realize that someone among them is not who they seem.

The book has a slow-burn start that sets the stage for the suspenseful second half. The remote vacation setting adds to the atmosphere of isolation and danger. The characters were a bit undeveloped and unconvincing in some ways, but I would recommend this book to fans of YA mysteries and looking for a quick read.

YA thrillers are my favorite genre. I'm rarely ever disappointed. This one kept me guessing. Every single character seemed to have a complex relationship with the victim so all of them were equally suspect. Eva and Colton as the main points of view was perfect since they were at the center of each respective friend subgroup. It made the story compelling to see the different dynamics from two different views. A remote lodge in the woods of Oregon was the perfect setting. The isolation really added to the sense of desperation and entrapment, making all of the emotions heightened.

I honestly changed my theory so many times while reading this and I think that is what makes a good thriller for me. I always want to be guessing and this book really kept me in suspense. I'll definitely be recommending this one. I read it in one sitting and I don't regret a single moment of it. I definitely want to read more books from Gabriella Lepore.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.
Bad Like Us is another solid YA thriller from Gabriella Lepore. If you’ve read her other books, this is very similar, including the use of mixed-media, like interview transcripts and text message conversations, which I continue to love for how it immerses you in the story.
The characters, as usual, are a mixed bag. I did really like how Piper’s chapters further added to the “found-footage” element, with hers being told vlog style, with the topics initially seeming fairly innocuous, although a sinister undercurrent slowly comes through, and is apparent by the end. Eva as well, is a fairly strong character, and I was intrigued by her relationship drama with Colton. The others are somewhat less developed, but this isn’t out of the ordinary for a Lepore book, where the characters exist more as drivers for the suspense.
Lepore remains fairly consistent in her style with quick, punchy chapters that keep you consistently invested in what’s going on and keeping me guessing throughout. I did feel a tad discombobulated with the flashbacks, which bogged down the pacing somewhat, but they make sense and are relevant in the greater context of the book and its overall story arc.
This was another solid read from Gabrielle Lepore, and I’d recommend it to readers looking for a fast-paced YA thriller.

YA thrillers hit different and this was no exception. Pretty Little Liars and One of Us is Lying set in a woodsy atmospheric location? Absolutely magical. Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a thriller mystery!

I will start this is already pre-ordered. Twice. It will be on my HS shelf and a copy for my own kids.

I love a good mystery, who did it, we all know each other so well, best friends, ex's, falling in love, drama.

THIS BOOK HAS IT.

hands down FAVORITE Colton. by far. I really liked this friend group with a couple exceptions. I won't say because honestly they may be somebody's favorite. But yes. Some not so much love for 1 or 2 characters but mostly love them.

There were some moments I was like you need your mom! go to her! but, like in reality, we don't all have that "mom".

AND stop going off alone. Especially once the eeriness kicks it up. Just don't. Please.

Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review.

I enjoyed the setting and premise of Bad Like Us. Taking place in woodsy, gloomy upper northern pacific, you travel with a group of somewhat friends for a weekend getaway which turns into a much longer ordeal. Suspicions arise and turns rocky friendships into a “who done it”.

It was a good read, and I'd highly recommend for anyone who enjoys conversation-based books.
