A wonderful cookbook with many great recipes. I especially enjoyed Chapter Eight- Delectable Desserts. I made the Pineapple Chiffon Pie and it was delicious.
The recipes are easy to follow and the photos are mouthwatering. A great addition to any kitchen.
I just reviewed Comfort Food Essentials by Kim Wilcox. #ComfortFoodEssentials #NetGalley
Comfort Food Essentials is a culinary treasure trove, delivering a delightful array of recipes that go beyond the usual comfort food suspects. Kim Wilcox's expertise shines through, offering a diverse collection that caters to every palate. The vivid photos not only inspire but also demystify the cooking process, making this cookbook a must-have for anyone seeking culinary comfort and variety. Thank you to Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.
Talk about some delicious comfort food! Loved the dessert section - the cookies were def a huge hit at the holiday get-together! My next attempt will be the flourless chocolate expresso cake. The servings for the main entrees and appetizers are meant for large gatherings, so this perfect is for hosting large parties and for the holiday. My husband's side of the family is great at making comfort food so I was glad to see the tomato pie and pickled red onions recipe in there. The meatloaf sliders look amazing so I'll have to experiment with that one with the hubby.
The directions were easy to follow and love the list of ingredients being in a different highlight of the page - easy on the eyes. The only "problem" that I had was the missing nutrition...but let's be honest, do we [really] want to see the nutrition in the comfort foods? haha. Also, I LOVE that there's a photo of what each recipe looks like! I love a cookbook that shows the overall ending conclusion (it makes me feel more confident about how it's supposed to look like). Highly recommend and has been a great hit with the hubby and family!
Home cooking...
Made easy. I really enjoyed this user friendly cookbook that made yummy recipes attainable.
I particularly liked the breakfast section. But there was soups, savories, lunch, dinner and sweets to finish a meal. Recommend for ease and food you will make and eat.
Recommend.
LOVED IT! super easy to understand and anyone can whip out a perfectly tasty dish
the cookbook also has a nice mix of veg and non-veg dishes so there's something for everyone. i made some of the comfort dishes and they turned out great. I'll definitely make making my way through the rest of the book

Kim Wilcox has compiled a collection of traditional comfort recipes in her new cookbook. The book covers the main food categories from breakfast through dessert; childhood comforts being a fun collection. Dishes range from Chocolate Chip Pancakes to Mac & Cheese to Meatloaf and Coconut Cream Pie. Each recipe offers an introduction, ingredient list, instructions and a photo. Some of the instructions are too wordy and the notes added to some selections didn't offer much information. The title is correct these are comfort favorites but they add little variety or updates from similar dishes seen many times over. This is a nice book for someone starting out making comfort foods but not that unique or inspiring.
Many thanks to to NetGalley, the publisher and author for the polygon read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I really enjoyed browsing through this cookbook. I found quite a few recipes I will be making for my family.
I liked the simplicity of the recipes.
Perfect Christmas present!
I recently got a new oven and have been looking for new recipes to try and who can say no to comfort food? This book seriously delivered, I've only made a few of the recipes so far and they were exactly what I needed. Pure comfort food without being to complicated to make.
I can't wait to try out more recipes and my housemates can't either, I might need to hide the leftovers!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity of trusting my review. This book couldn't have came at a more perfect time. I am in such a cooking pause I don't know what to cook and nothing sounds good. I found many new recipes. Easy to follow, common ingredients, and most important great eating. My family now has some new favorites to try.
This cookbook had the essentials and I'm looking forward to making some recipes like the oven roasted garlic and cauliflower soup. YUM! This cookbook has many pictures of recipes and even the tools needed to make those recipes. For me, personally, that is a requirement for a cookbook. How do I know if I want to make something if I can't see a picture of it? I appreciate the simplicity of the cookbook but at the same time is a great tool for more seasoned home cooks as well.
Interesting recipes that I have never heard of but they do sound intriguing. The author has gone to a lot of work
compiling all her recipes and I wish her great success.
This book has lots of good recipes that are easy to make. The recipes are easy to follow and the ingredients are common and accessible.
I thought this was a very nice basic cookbook that would hold great appeal to those with beginning to moderate cooking skills. There is a good variety of recipes included, plus some helpful tips and tricks to help up your game in the kitchen.
So many delicious homestyle recipes, some with a twist, but all really satisfying and well loved by generations of people. The meat loaf/potato bowl sounds delicious and will be on my table tonight! Well written and presented.
This gorgeous book is absolutely stuffed with yummy recipes that will leave you satisfied. Kim Wilcox knows food and food prep. Along with the recipes are tips about equipment and other hacks to help the recipes turn out better and make your life easier. One thing I learned is that you should store berries in jars to keep them fresh longer. I did not know that! Food, I do love food and cooking and recipes and this one really got me hungry. Meals that will warm you and also satisfy your cravings. Great photos, great recipes and ideas for creating nice meals. What more can I say except that I am heading to the kitchen to start cooking my way through the recipes in this book. YUM!
Thank you NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
I think this book isn't the right fit if you're really into making comfort food. Personally, comfort food should be made from recipes that are full of heart and require love to make. Unfortunately, this recipe book did not leave me wanting to cook or prepare anything from it. This is a let-down because I was very interested in learning to make authentic homestyle comfort food. My recommendation is to find other comfort food cookbooks such as Ina Garten or the Pioneer Woman. I also wasn't too keen on the ingredients that were chosen for these recipes, such as shortening for cookies?! Why not use butter? Alas, I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone.
This is one I will be needing in physical form. It’s one I will use often because there are so many recipes I want to try. I recommend this cookbook
This cookbook is pretty for anyone who loves comfort foods or is looking for new ideas to add to their menu. There are so many amazing options and I love the simple, straight way everything is outlined. The instructions are easy to follow so you wouldn’t have to be an expert cook to be able to create these dishes.
Nothing new , but that is the point of comfort foods! Makes me want to put on my stretchy pants, put on a movie and eat these delicious foods right in front of the TV.
Thanks for the ARC!
