What a lovely cookbook! So many amazing photos in this book. I found many recipes that I will try. A few of the recipes were pretty clsoe to some that I already make, so this book was right up my alley!
I am always looking for a cookbook that can help make my busy days go better and still provide a great meal for my family. Comfort Food Essentials was perfect. Each recipe was broken down perfectly for us. It gave a great description along with an amazing picture of the finished product that made you want to dive into every recipe. I love the sectioned page with different colors for each section; instructions, ingredients and notes. It made following the great recipes so much easier for us. We have tried quite a few of them already but definitely have some favorites: Oh! Oreo malt, Butterscotch Pumpkin Pie, Cubed Steak with Mushroom Gravy and the Green Beans Alfredo. Throughout the book were pages that had delicious duo suggestions, pairing several recipes from the book together, and this was fun to try. Everything from breakfast to dinner and snacks in between you will love this collection of 100 recipes. The author is a fellow southerner with a restaurant in Knoxville, Tennessee that we can’t wait to see. I received this cookbook as an ARC but I will be buying it to add to our kitchen as well as other cookbooks from the same author. You want warm, cozy and a home cooked feel, just like my mama, this is the book you need. Our family highly recommends this one to every family we meet.
I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I've been on a comfort food binge lately so the title.of this book caught my eye. And the picture definitely helped in the matter. The author's name however. Well I knew I knew it from somewhere just couldn't place it.
The book doesn't disappoint. The instructions are clear and detailed enough to get you to where you want to go and give some fun little tips and tidbits of info along the way,.while being simple enough they aren't hard to follow. The pictures all look delicious. The recipes themselves touch all sorts of styles of food so there is sure to be something for everyone. All in all a handy little cookbook to have.
It wasn't until I was at my own cookbook shelf that I realized I knew the authors name because I already own another one of her cookbooks!
If you like comfort food, this is the cookbook for you. The only problem that I see is that if you do like this type of food, you probably already have your own go-to recipes for many of the dishes here. There are some nice twists though to some of the classics like a Mexican inspired BLT.
Recipes were easy to follow and the layout was clear and consistent throughout. I made the pan-seared hot honey balsamic chicken thighs. Tasted a lot like balsamic - I like balsamic but it was too much. Won’t be making it again. Will be trying a couple dessert recipes next.
Comfort Food Essentials by Kim Wilcox is an absolutely stunning cookbook, with such beautiful layout and photographs that it could easily find pride of place on someone's coffee table!
Add to that a large collection of recipes that has something to tempt everyone - even this picky eater - and you have a cookbook that will be sure to find its way into the libraries of many homes.
I also enjoyed the inclusion of fun facts and helpful hints throughout the book!
My admittedly limited cooking prowess is intrigued after reading the ARC of #ComfortFoodEssentials provided by #NetGalley.
There were a lot of recipes and some sounded really good. I enjoyed the layout of each recipe. It helped me find everything I needed to see what the recipe would take to make.
4 stars
This new recipe book by Kim Wilcox does not disappoint. With kind and caring words and loving created chapters of both classic and more modern takes on comfort foods just wraps us up in a warm hug and reminds us to take care of ourselves. The recipes included will feed a gathering of people as well as a cozy night for 2. I like that several recipes are scaled down in portion sizes (such as meatloaf sliders) to accommodate those of us eating less these days. Leftovers are easily freezable have on hand. I also enjoyed the tips given in the first part of the book and I am sure that many others will as well.
I would like to thank #FoxChapelPublishing and #Netgalley for a opportunity to read this book early in exchange for an honest review.
If I am to be honest, I was a little disappointed by this book. I guess it wasn't exactly as I expected.
While some great-looking recipes definitely tempt the tastebuds, and yes, I will be having a go at making them, some of the recipes require baking mixes. It doesn't make the book as versatile as other cookbooks.
I found the recipes to be detailed, with plenty of information to help even the worst cooks (me).
The pages felt a little cluttered, though, and although I feel it is meant to be homey in style, a more modern layout would help it feel less full.
Overall a good cookbook that is bound to please the tastebuds of many.
I don't usually review cookbooks on this but I saw this for download on Netgally and I was curious about it. I've been wanting to cook more at home to save money and I've been collecting cookbooks and recipes lately. This intrigued me so I decided to give it a try.
I really like that there are wide variety of recipe types in this. You have everything from breakfast to dinner, soups and sandwiches, and a large amount of deserts. There are even a selection of beverages to try out. The categories even have a nice selection of different options in them. I like the section for cooking tips and tricks at the beginning of the book. It's a big help for any beginner chefs (like me) that may pick up the book looking to learn. I think my favorite recipes in the book are the soups. I'm a big soup person and the recipes included are simple enough for anyone to make and tasty.
Several of the recipes threw me off a little (15 eggs for an egg salad recipe and 6 slices of cheese for a single grilled cheese seem a bit excessive to me not gonna lie) and I question why the tomato soup recipe is included in this at all (adding spices and tomato paste to a can of soup you buy at the store doesn't seem cookbook worthy to me) but who am I to know I'm new to all of this. (Also I read an advance copy of this so things may change before the publication but I recommend that some of the pictures have a second going over. Many of the pictures look dry and overcooked, especially the lasagna which is downright burned.)
Overall I do recommend this book especially for beginner chefs. The recipes included are easy and tasty and would be a good addition to anyone's overall cooking lineup.
I got this as an ARC thank you netgalley!
The food looks delicious and the recipes are simple. Good pictures to show what you're making and how it should look. Can't wait to buy a physical copy, highly recommend this cookbook! If you have cast iron pans this is the cook book for you!
Well it looks like I’ve got my winter recipe plan all squared away. What’s better on a cold, dreary, snowy day than some yummy comfort food? This book is full of great comfort food recipes, and the photos really capture that down-home, diner feel in a way that couples perfectly with the theme.
Thank you Kim Wilcox, Fox Chapel Publishing, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
Great cookbook! There are plenty of pictures, which is one of the biggest requirements in a cookbook for me. This very much felt like a cookbook for me, a mom of 2 with basic cooking skills! There are no wacky ingredients or super difficult skills like I find in many cookbooks today. These recipes look delicious and decadent yet accessible to me! Kid/family friendly! Several recipes I can not wait to make for my family soon. Standouts for me were Stuffed French Toast, Cheesy Wild Rice and Mushroom Soup, Cindy's Tater Tot Casserole, and Hot Dr. Pepper. Would recommend this cookbook to all!
I particularly liked the recipe for lasagna using pepperoni. This book has some good simple comfort food.
I love this book! There are so many amazing recipes in here that I cannot wait to try. I'm looking forward to making and eating these on a cold winters evening.
Many thanks to Kim Wilcox, NetGalley, and Fox Chapel for this copy.
IMHO this is the perfect cookbook for teenagers and young adults who want to move beyond grilled cheese and scrambled eggs. The recipes are easy to follow with familiar ingredients. The accompanying Photos are stunning. Beautiful book. IT IS NOT DESIGNED TO BE AN EBOOK. Thank you NatGalley for the ARC.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this mouthwatering ARC.
Things I enjoyed include a picture for each recipe as well as tips and notes. I like it when a book shows you how to pair the dishes with other recipes included in there.
The recipes themselves look delicious, nothing really crazy just good comfort food.
A wonderful book for anyones kitchen library. Food is not just sustanance, it though it can be. For so many it is a way to show love, to celebrate and also to make ourselves and others feel better. If food is in essence a way to show love, comfort food is like the extra snuggly hug when we need it most. The recipes are easy to follow, lovely, delicious, creative and are accompanied by nice photos. The author gives us great kitchen staples to have on hand and ideas and license to be creative. Definitely going on my list of books to gift for the holiday season.
A quick and easy cookbook that lets you have your favorite comfort food recipes all in one place for easy reference. Beautifully photographed that makes this cookbook positively drool worthy ! I thank Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.
There were some really creative recipes that I loved! It is like comfort with twists and new ways to try these things. I cannot wait! Five Stars!
