Thanks to Netgalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
Well, the book title says it all 😋😋.. The recipes in there look like my type of comfort food. Stay away if you're on diet or if you suffer from high cholesterol. They're not recipes I'd make everyday, but once in a while we all need a little "pick me up" and this recipe book will deliver.. plus all the photos look soo yummy.
So many great recipes to try at home when I am craving comfort food! They are all easy to follow and great for new cooks like me.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.

[NetGalley URL] The food looks amazing, and I can't wait to make some of these recipes!
This is a great resource of comfort food, especially for the novice cook. This book includes many photographs of recipes and techniques and the ingredients are common and simple - no trips to specialty stores in order to be successfully execute these dishes.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great and easy-to-follow recipes for many basics and comfort foods. A great addition, especially for newer cooks.
This is a great cookbook full of lord of yummy recipes. I love my comfort food, so I was excited to get the opportunity to look through this book. The recipes are easy to follow and I appreciate the accompanying photos. I liked that the photos weren’t overly filtered and polished.
I'll be honest, my motivation for grabbing this cookbook was the mac and cheese on the cover. Lucky for me, there are a handful of mac and cheese recipes in here! A cookbook all about comfort food? Count me in!
This cookbook features over 100 recipes, from breakfast to dessert. There were substitutions and tips before the recipes started.
Every recipe has a full color photo, step by step instructions, a yield and notes. It all looked delicious. Beginners would do well with it. Most of, if not all, the recipes looked easy to make, nothing seems too difficult.
At the time of reading, there was no index created. There was a page that said Index, so I’m assuming there will be one in the finished product, but I’m not sure if there will be photos, as some cookbooks have, or just text.
Overall, I think it's a great cookbook for beginners or easy recipes for the moderate cook.
Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing. I voluntarily read an early copy of this cookbook.
This cookbook does exactly what it says on the tin! Every pages oozes comfort and happiness. Page after page delivers delicious, yet simple to make recipes. There are clear step by step instructions, and mouthwatering accompanying photo of every recipe. I found myself bookmarking every page - there really is something for everyone in here! From pancakes at breakfast, to new twists on macaroni cheese, this book has it all. One word - YUM. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you to Fox Chapel Publishing and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.
I love this cookbook! The recipes all look delicious and they are super simple! I can't wait to try some of those delicious desserts!
Comfort food means a lot of things to a lot of people. I think one could be very unlucky not to find their favorite in this book, as well as finding food to make into future comfort food for the family. The recipes are divided into breakfast, Breads (sweet and savory) hearty sandwiches, childhood comfort food, mains, desserts, beverage and more. All are easy to follow with great photos and and how to make substitutions to familiar food your way. Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC
I love looking through cookbooks and eyeing up possible meal ideas. I liked that every recipe had an accompanying picture with it and I’m most excited to make the shepherd’s pie grilled cheese. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!
A lot of standards were used to but then I’d half half of book almost is different things I’ve never heard of like family apricot ball recipe and grandmas chocolate crepe pie. The Sunday roast recipe I’m trying and the lemon and cranberry loaves hope they turn out well yum got so hungry reading this.
I really enjoyed this book! The recipe seem very easy to follow and I can not wait to try some of these yummy recipes!
A quick and easy cookbook that provides some nice color photos and easy to follow recipes. Love how it is divided up by sections and provides some alternative ingredients to make the recipe your own. These are true comfort foods from mac and cheese with candied jalapenos to the refreshing root beer float or warm Dr. Pepper. This is a cookbook that would be great to work with your children with and get the foundation down so they understand the flavors, ingredients and how it blends together.
Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity.
This cookbook is full of delicious home-cooked comfort food recipes that I can’t wait to make myself. I found the bread section particularly appealing, as well as the numerous soups. I was very appreciative of the tips at the beginning of the book as to help a non chef like myself.
WARNING ⚠️ Do not read Comfort Food Essentials on an empty stomach!
Well, now that I am starving and want to try Every. Single. Item featured in this cookbook, I will say that this is my type of cookbook. What first grabbed my attention was the title. Did someone say comfort food? Yep, count me in! Secondly, this cookbook had simple recipes with ingredients that I have actually heard of and have most on hand (thank God I don’t have to go to France or specialty markets just to make a dinner). Also, each recipe had a mouth watering picture next to it so I could visualize my next meal. 🍽️
This cookbook started off with some awesome Time-Honored Cooking Tips. We then went to breakfast dishes, breads, soups, dinners, desserts, and recipes from friends. The author even shared her Christmas Eve Chili, which has been a family tradition for many years. I’m planning to start this tradition myself.
I really enjoyed this cookbook, and I am going to order myself a copy of this cookbook to have for my own personal use. I just wish this cookbook was a little bit lengthier, as I felt that while the recipes were exactly what I was looking for- I think more could have been provided.
All in all, this is a wonderful cookbook that I definitely recommend! 😋
Many thanks to NetGalley, Fox Chapel Publishing, and Kim Wilcox for an ARC of this cookbook which I had the pleasure of reviewing. All tastebuds are my own 😉
Publication date: January 17, 2024
From breakfast to main dishes to beverages, Comfort Food Essentials by Kim Wilcox will give any home chef a great basis of recipes to experiment with or follow to a T. Cooking can seem overly complicated with so many fancy materials, ingredients, and recipes, I love that this book is comforting and simplistic filled with timeless recipes and tips.
I love that each recipe is accompanied by simplistic instructions (most only being a few steps) a clear ingredient list, a colored photo, and a couple extra notes. The extra notes including fun facts or otherways to optionally enhance the recipe!
First of all, who doesn’t love comfort food? Even better is a whole book of comfort food recipes. There are loads of recipes that remind me of dinner at my grandma’s house as well as a lot of new ideas.
There are multiple different takes on my favorite comfort food: mac and cheese. I will absolutely be trying every single one.
The recipes are clear and concise, so I think they will be easy to follow. I love that there are extra recipes to go with main recipes like the pickled onions for sandwiches. Speaking of sandwiches, this cookbook is definitely going to elevate my boring work lunches.

Author Kim Wilcox is the owner of the popular family-owned restaurant It's All So Yummy in Knoxville, Tennessee. She is the author of The Great Book of Grilled Cheese and her recipes have also appeared in the wildly popular The Ultimate Spam (R) Cookbook Make delicious, comforting, warm recipes the whole family will love, with Comfort Food Essentials!
Warm and cozy? It is 110 degrees and HUMID as I type this, but I have so many plans for this book come October when it comes out … in fact, I ordered a copy of it for my own personal use! (if I can jigger the recipes to make in my InstantPot which creates zero heat in the kitchen I will make them now … that is about the only appliance used from June through mid-September in this home!)
The foods presented in here are YUMMY looking and sounding and no recipe is beyond the skills of even the most basic of cooks. And, homemade means less UPF (ultra-processed foods) in your belly – I admit that due to budgetary restrictions, we eat a lot of boxed macaroni and cheese but I add in a tonne of veggies to it so it is mixed veggies with a little macaroni in it.) The perfect cool and cold weather cookbook, I will recommend this far and wide and share that I bought it for myself!

p.s. why do the English call is macaroni cheese ... do they like omitting "and"? And don't get me started with "in hospital" ... the distinct lack of THE annoys me too... #butIdigress
