Super interesting plot. Not what I was expecting but was pleasantly surprised with the suspense and plot.
In his historical novels Christopher Kerr succeeds brilliantly in combining the known facts with his own special interpretation of people and events not generally recorded in the history books. His exhaustive research adds a depth of authenticity and despite non-stop action, intrigue and suspense he allows his characters to drive the plot forward with an evocative style of writing calling upon all human emotions.
This is much more than just a story about Germany's nuclear experiments in WW2. It has a particular relevance to the dangerous world in which we live today, where we are forever at risk of Armageddon as countries and regimes and religious dissent continue to stir the pot of a dangerous recipe for world disaster.
This truly is a novel written on an epic scale by a master of the genre.
Wow, what a rollercoaster of a read!
The amount of historical detail that Kerr delves in to throughout the book is incredible and really adds authenticity to the story. The book itself is well written, structured and easy to follow whilst keeping you gripped from start to finish. The way in which we jump from different time periods and different key players is great and allows you to feel like you are completely immersed in the drama in which David and those around him are in.
A great read! 5/5
The first half of the book that involves the prevention of Hitler's Germany creating an atom bomb is well written and documents those involved in the creation of this weapon.
It's the second half of the book that I find unnerving. Under his conjectures, Kerr implicitly implicates the Israeli intelligence services in a series of assassinations. What bothers me about this fiction(?) is that it plays into so many of the conspiracies that float around the dark web. I wonder how many of the "crazies" out there will approach this as "true" history.
Though this book was obtained from NetGalley it is in fact an independently published book under the Book Guild publishing name.
