The second book in the Sisters of the Rockies focuses on Lorelei, an animal lover at heart. I enjoyed reading about the white buffalo, a sacred animal to the Native Americans. I liked the differences in the sisters, their grit and compassion. Tanner's story is heartbreaking. Hopefully Tanner will get some closure with his father in a future installment. Looking forward to the next in the series. Rosey? Readers will want to read the first in the series. Recommended.
My review today is on the Christain Historical Romance, Rocky Mountain Promise. This is book two in the series, Sisters of the Rockies. I'm a huge fan of Misty's work and I'm thrilled when she comes out with a new book. Her stories take you right out there in the mountains, snow, ice, and all. This book is well-written and heart-warming.
Lorelei Collins is riding out on the prairie when she sees a black lump up ahead. Lorelei finds a dead buffalo, a mother whose body is still warm. Lorelei has an affinity with animals and is brokenhearted when she sees the arrows in the body and it just left to rot. She can tell she's a mother and looks around to find the calf. The calf is not what she thought it would be. The calf is a light golden color. When she brings it to the ranch she finds out it is a rare white buffalo. Soon all kinds of men and Indians are at the ranch to see the wonder.
Tanner Mason came to the area to open a trading post. His partner has returned to St. Louis for more supplies. He rides over to the Collins ranch to introduce himself. Three men are there with the three sisters. One of the men is in the pen with a young golden calf. The women are trying to get the man away from the calf. Tanner steps in to try to help. The one man is killed and Tanner helps bury him. He tells Lorelei he has milk to feed the calf and will sell them all they need. He even goes back to the fork to bring it to the crying calf.
The calf draws people from all over and it's soon not safe for the women. They move the calf to the trading fort. Evil soon descends on the fort. God has a plan for these two for hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan for peace and not for destruction. Give Him your heart and watch Him move in your life
Another great mountain adventure story from Misty M. Beller! Rocky Mountain Promise continues the story of the Collins sisters, focusing on animal lover Lorelei. I loved all of the animal characters in this book! I enjoyed both Lorelei and Tanner’s journeys, and I’m excited for more in this series. 4/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Oh, How I love this series and especially Rocky Mountain Promise by Misty M. Beller. Lorelei Collins is the soft-hearted, animal lover and healer of the three sisters. Don’t mistake soft-hearted for slow thinker, she has plenty of critical thinking skills. The baby animal that she finds at the beginning of this second book in the series is one that brings many who want to see it, own it, and are in awe of it. However, it also brings the new trading post shopkeeper, Tanner Mason.
I admire how Lorelei looks to the Lord for answers, seeing His hand is all that happens. Tanner is a rather reluctant hero but he just can’t help himself. He is a protector but one who needs the Lord’s help too. A marvelous story that while it doesn’t end with a cliff hanger, it does make me want to read the third story as soon as possible.
The publisher through Net Galley provided a complimentary digital copy. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, my personal opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.
Wonderful story of the American frontier in the late 1830's. Misty Beller pens a sweet story of family, centered around four sisters that are full of grit, ready to face the challenges of survival in the Rocky Mountain wilderness.
The author skillfully weaves details of the overarching plot from the first book in the series into this second book so that it can be read as a standalone. In this story, readers meet Lorelei, whose sweet spirit is perfect for tending the animals on the girls ranch. As she nurtures an orphaned white buffalo calf, she finds unwanted attention endangers those she holds dear causing her to rely upon the owner of a newly built trade post to help. As their friendship deepens, the future looks full of promise.
With an endearing cast of characters and several unexpected plot twists, I found myself lost within the pages of the story. This was the first book I have read by the author, but definitely plan on reading more. Looking forward to reading more of the Collins sisters in future books in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher thorough Netgalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Rocky Mountain Promise is the second book (of three) in the Sisters of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. Although part of a series, it can easily be read as a stand-alone book. Having read and enjoyed several of this author's books, I eagerly anticipated reading this one, and I was not disappointed. The writing style is graceful and flows smoothly as the author tells the story of Lorelei and Tanner. The story immediately grabs the reader's attention as Lorelei finds and rescues a rare white buffalo calf, not realizing the challenges her rescue will bring. The author has beautifully crafted the characters--compassionate, courageous, and, of course, the bad guys are sinister and dangerous evoking tense excitement as situations unfold! Strong characters that are likable, realistic situations, and wonderfully descriptive scenes all work together for a delightful story. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Beller's books. Readers who enjoy historical fiction with lots of adventure and romance will want to put Rocky Mountain Promise on their To Be Read list!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from LibraryThing via NetGalley. I was not required to write a favorable review, and the opinions are my own.
God hasn’t rejected you. You are good enough exactly the way He made you. Better than good enough - you’re perfect. Exactly the way He wants you.
Spring River Valley in the spring of 1838 finds the Collins sisters well established on their horse farm. Lorelei is particularly good with animals and happens on a white buffalo calf whose mother has just been killed. Along with the little creature comes a whole host of interesting and dangerous occurrences. Tanner Mason owns the local trading post and the only cow with milk for the calf. As one who has been rejected by those closest to him, he struggles with self worth. Can he leave his past behind and become the man God made him to be?
An early copy was received through Bethany House Publishers, Baker Publishing Group and NetGalley. These thoughts are my own and were in no way solicited.
Rocky Mountain Promise is the second book in the Sisters of the Rockies series. While the sisters are introduced in book one, this could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone too.
Misty M. Beller is a wonderful storyteller, and this book is truly an example of that! Who would have thought that a story that centers largely around a little white buffalo calf named Curly could capture my attention so well? And yet, it did just that. I really enjoyed this beautifully told story. The characters were well written and drew me into their lives pretty quickly. I sometimes struggle with getting into historical reads that are set in this time frame, but I found that the unique premise of the story, the hints of danger, the romance... and of course, Curly himself all drew me in and kept me invested in how everything would turn out. The messages of faith were woven beautifully into the story and it all just worked together very well.
If you enjoy historical fiction, this is one worth checking out.
**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All opinions are my own.
Rocky Mountain Promise had me hooked from the very beginning. The Collins sisters are back and Lorelei’s story might just be my new favorite — who could resist a baby white buffalo named Curly?
When Lorelei saves a baby white buffalo she has no idea what she’s gotten herself into. The first issue is how to feed it, solved by Tanner the owner of the newly built trading post not far from their ranch. When word gets out about Curly, visitors descend on the ranch, some out of reverence, some curiosity, and some with their own motives.
This book gives a sweeping picture of life in this era, painting vivid pictures of trappers, migrant tribal settlements, and villains amidst the backdrop of hills and plains, mountains and valleys.
When Tanner offers to remove Curly from the ranch for the safely of the Collins sisters he has no idea Lorelei plans to accompany the buffalo. Things may just have gotten more complicated than he imagined.
I love the characters in this series. The author has a grasp on writing siblings — their connection, similarities, and personal uniqueness — bound up in their love and respect of one another. Perfection.
Tanner is strong, protective, yet vulnerable in ways that draw you to him. His growing interest in Lorelei and friendship with White Horse played against his doubts about himself made me want to urge him on to greater things.
There’s a thread of faith that winds itself into the story in an organic way that speaks to both believers and nonbelievers alike. Who can resist a message of hope in the midst of great storytelling?
I received an copy of this book courtesy of Bethany House. This is my honest opinion. I highly recommend this book for lovers of western historical fiction.
This is the second book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I did not read the first book and was able to follow along fine, but I will definitely go back to read it because this looks like a great series. Some people and things are referenced that I want to know more about! This is a very well written and intriguing story of Lorelei who finds a very rare baby white Buffalo and is determined to save it. She acquires the help of Tanner, the new owner of the Trading Post. But the baby Buffalo proves to be much more trouble than anticipated. Especially with the hardships and nefarious men in the West.
A fun story filled with danger and suspense wrapped inside a sweet romance. A nice little series to read and I can’t wait to get more! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN PROMISE is the second novel in the Sisters of the Rockies series by MISTY M BELLER, but it can easily stand alone. The story takes place in Green River Valley in 1838 on the horse ranch belonging to the Colins sisters. Lorelei Collins comes across an orphaned white buffalo which she takes home with her. She loves animals and has a way with them, taking care of those who are hurting. She is much the same with hurting people, as we see in her relationship with Tanner Mason, who has started a trading post in the area.
The rare calf causes drama due to the superstitions of the Indians and the greed of unscrupulous men who are trying to steal him and sell him…….
It is good to see the sisters’ simple but satisfying lifestyle and their faith in God.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Bethany House Publishers. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
This second episode of Rocky Mountain Rendezvous features Lorelei, the family’s younger sister. She is an animal lover, so when she sees an abandoned baby white buffalo she has to stop and help. She is unaware that this buffalo is sacred and considered lucky by the natives.
As owner of the nearby trading station, Tanner is aware that the animal would attract unwanted attention to Lorelei and her family. The locals would do anything for the chance to see and touch this buffalo.
These endearing characters are instantly likable and gripping as they deal with some horrific circumstances. I like how the author rolled Lorelei’s family drama, danger, mystery, a splash of romance, and the outlaws into a compelling, insightful novel. Although you could read this on its own, it’s best to read the first one in order to catch up on the experiences this family has already endured.
This authors’ novels take readers on a wild ride through history and the joys and hardships the characters go through. It makes me appreciate the times we live in. This is a wonderful escape and one that would make for an intriguing book club pick.

What an amazing series with adventure, mystery, a puzzle to solve, and God's love shown throughout. This is book two and focuses on Lorilei Collins who falls number three of the four sisters. Lorilei is the animal whisper and has a special way of healing and calming the wounded strays she finds along the way. The sisters have set up their horse ranch and are doing well when Lorilei finds an orphaned buffalo calf. The white buffalo will bring danger to her family, so she devises the only solution she can come up with moving to the new trade post to care for and protect both the calf and her sisters from those that will try to steal him. What she finds there is so much more than protection.
Tanner Mason has left his home in Boston to come west and open a trade store and to find his place in the world hopefully. When he meets the Collins sisters he is immediately taken with Lorilei and will do whatever is necessary to protect her. The trouble for Tanner is he needs to protect his heart from her.
This book is packed full of adventure and danger. Our group is still in search of White Horse's mother and with each clue they hope they are getting closer to finding her. It kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next as it is so well written and interesting. I loved every page and am eager for book three to see what happens with the sisters next. Each book is part of a series and the stories continue, but the books are focused on a sister so they can be read alone. I highly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it.
God knows your true worth!
A sweet and gentle romance develops within these pages as Tanner and Lorelei work together to help little Curly. God brought them together at just the right time. Lorelei points Tanner to God as she accepts him and values him for who he is. Tanner has never known that in his life.
I enjoyed the story. There is adventure, danger, bad men, mystery, old friends, new surprises and romances all wrapped up in this enchanting tale. I will definitely re-read this story. I received a complimentary copy and these are my voluntary and honest opinions.
I really love Misty M. Beller's books set in my favorite place on earth....the Rocky Mountains! This series of books tracks the lives of four sisters and their friend, White Horse. This book is about Lorelei, who loves animals, and rescues a rare while buffalo calf, which leads her I to a string of adventures. Tanner is new in the western territories, and has set up a trading post. Naturally, he and the sisters grow to depend on each other and a sweet love story between Tanner and Lorelei begins to grow.
I found this book to move quickly, to be a simple story, perfect for restful reading. There is some mystery and adventure, and of course, a happy ending!
I love the characters! Many hardships but the strong pioneer women help keep the homestead going and contribute to the expansion of the west. The romance built on the love of the land and a buffalo that is special brings danger. It also brings healing and peace. I love the adventure and can’t imagine how hard settling in a land so wild but beautiful. This story keeps you entertained from beginning to end! So excited for the next book in the series.
This is the second book in a new series by Misty Beller, Sisters of the Rockies. It picks up about 6 months after the end of Rocky Mountain Rendezvous. I recommend reading Rendezvous first, if you haven’t already, as most of the main characters are introduced in that book, and it sets the stage for this book.
Once again, I stayed up way too late reading the book. The plot twists this time don’t involve the various tribes as much as how a trading post owner deals with greedy trappers. There are special animals that play a big part in the book, and of course, there’s a love story.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest opinion.
This is the second book in the series,
Awesome book! I especially enjoyed the sweet romance and what I learned about Native Americans in this book.
4 stars
An intense story with a reminder to keep trusting God, no matter what. The characters depend upon each other and show what real relationships are meant to be like, inspirational.
I have just recently discovered this author and have enjoyed all of her books that I have read. Looking forward to more of her future work.
Thank you Net Galley.
