Gripping and heartbreaking with an undercurrent of unease running through it. Half can’t bear to read/half can’t bear to put it down. It’s marvellous - so tautly plotted and don’t see the twists coming! Will be a smash hit!

If you are expecting the desperate housewives thriller trends? Nope. That's what it sounds like you'll get but that isn't it all. It is a dark disturbing book about a psychopath. And that isn't even my issue.

My issue is with the representation of some marginalized groups and the way the darker corners of the mind are handled.

Nope.

This is bloody brilliant. Full of twists and an intricate plot. I really hope we revisit the detective in this novel. Definitely ripe for a sequel.

I’m not sure I like the trans narrative in this tho. Especially when trans people are suffering so much persecution, I’m not sure them being portrayed as violent is the most appropriate

If you liked How to Kill Men and Get Away With It - which I did then you’ll enjoy this. It’s dark and chilling and sadly all imaginable. The protagonist is the owner of the titular nail salon and it’s their background which forms the basis of this crime novel. Trigger warnings regarding sexual and child abuse and also domestic violence all of which form a big part of this book. There’s a serial killer at large and the police have a race against time to stop the perpetrator.

This is a very chilling thriller. Worth listening to, but very chilling and dark. The topics dealt with are very current but very emotionally challenging. As the story and characters are revealed I found myself wondering did she or not, hoping she did not. But the consequences either way were not going to be nice. And then there were the other skilfully interlinked story lines, all dark. I was torn with this audio book. It is very well written, but as I said the story line is so dark and painful. Thank you to Harper Collins UK Audio and NetGalley for the audio ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.

I really did not enjoy the narrator on this audiobook, which meant I didn't really feel like reading it all that much. However, I eventually powered through and have mixed feelings about the book. I wasn't too big on the writing personally, which, coupled with the narration made me want to put the book down numerous times but the one thing that kept me going was the plot. Even though it wasn't the best written, the plot had a lot of potential

WTF? I am going to put my daughters in a tower and keep them there. This was terrifying and the criminal is not who I expected. I mean you find out right away but I still wasn't expecting that.
Do not expect a happy ending or resolution. It is just sad tragic gross stuff the whole way through.
The narrator was amazing though!

I am too sensitive for this one.

The Nail Salon took an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to this quick read. Every ime I thought we’d exhausted the number of villains, we’d find another. So many issues, so many sickos, and to top it off, there was a Sue and a Susie? It was definitely a lot. But if that’s your cup of tea, you’re in for a treat.

Helen Colby did a good job with the narration, but I’m not sure if it was a delivery or a mixing issue or something, but it got harder to hear her clearly further into the book, even with repeated increases to the volume.

Thank you Natalie Tambini, HarperCollins UK Audio, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for providing this ALC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.

This is a dark, gruesome, and gritty read with lots of triggers mentioned by the publisher from the start.

It does seem to squash everything, but the kitchen sink into it, and a lot seems to be added for the shock value and diluted the storyline. Personally, I feel less is more.

I didn't hate it but I didn't love it

The Nail Salon

You’re in a bumpy ride with this amazing thriller by Natalie Tambini. It’s a complete package you expect from a good thriller. ALL characters are laced with deep secrets and lies. The plot is a bit busy and it took me good few chapters to understand the characters but did keep me on my toes. The ending was not anticipated at all. I finished listening to this book in less than 24 hours and is a 4.3/5 for me.
Book cover and narration is excellent.
I’m thankful to Netgalley and Harper Collins to let me listen to this audio book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
