I'm giving this book 4 out of 5 stars, because it was a bit confusing for me on some storyline arcs. However, this was an amazing story with such beautiful and interesting artwork. I haven't previously dug into the cyber punk world, but this graphic novel makes me want to, especially with the bright and vibrant world.
This book follows a disgraced agent of the state, after he comes across a conspiracy. He follows leads to try to solve the mystery unfolding before himself, learning what he had to do with it all and remembering memories that had been lost to him.
I love this story because it gives commentary on our own world, and how we may change into a mood-controlling mega corporation in the near future. This has great insights into our reliance on technology, and how certain advancements may come at the detriment of humanity. This graphic novel wasn't just visually appealing, but made me think deeply about the future of our world (especially as AI and genetic technologies advance).
I really recommend this read if you love science and social commentary. I will be buying a physical copy on release so that my husband can read it.
I received this book by the publisher through NetGalley.com for free in exchange for an honest review.
The art was pretty cool and this was very short so it's easy to finish in one sitting. If you like cyberpunk 2055 then definitely pick this up. Or if you enjoy cyberpunk in general as well.
This will be a great addition to a library’s collection. I like that it wasn’t superhero’s and Star Wars like many adult graphic novels are.
I noticed that my copy had some blurriness, making it challenging to read, especially parts written with smaller text. I believe this may be due to it being an advanced reader's copy (ARC), and I hope this issue is resolved in the published version. There's of course a possibility it's an artistic choice but it would be a strange one, to be honest.
Overall, eJunky is a solid sci-fi story with bold colors and some edgy writing. While the art is good, the tone and bold colors were tiring sometimes. Still, I had a reasonably good time with it.
*My copy was a bit blurry, making some of the smaller text difficult to read, especially the content in between story chapters. I suspect that is just due to being an ARC and hope that it’s corrected once published, so it hasn’t affected my rating.
This was a good sci-fi story paired with excellent visuals. I loved the look and feel of everything and the colors choices were bold and made this story stand out from other works. The use of dreams and drugs to keep the population calm and the mysteries within that made everything really interesting and also added a creepiness to Hector’s investigation.
