This one left me smiling throughout! I loved seeing the growth of the main character as she slowly lets go of the behaviours enforced by her ex. A beautiful story of a woman finding herself, friendship, and a great love.
I'm not generally a friends to lovers fan, I much prefer enemies to lovers but this was done quite well! It's a lovely, light, feel good romcom that's perfect to read on the beach. This was my first Lindsey Kelk but I would definitely read another! I love a woman trying to figure out what she wants and then going after it
Another great one from Lindsey! This story had me laughing and melted my heart with the feels. I loved the setting and the friends-to-lovers romance was well written but I wanted more. The book was definitely more of a family drama and the romance aspect took a bit of a back seat. However, this didn't detract me from enjoying the story.
I really enjoy this author and this was quite a solid summer romance. I didn't love the main characters quite as much as in some of her other books, but it held my attention throughout and I pleasantly enjoyed it on the beach while on vacation.
This was my first book by this author but it certainly won’t be my last. I adored the British girl in LA angle and found myself laughing out loud multiple times. Although not remotely christmassy, it gave me similar vibes to Kate Winslet’s storyline in The Holiday and this only made me love it more. The characters were a fantastic bunch, the setting was great and the romance adorable, huge fan all round
It is a wonderfully written romance that weaves in the importance of family. This book grabs you from the start and doesn’t let go. All the characters are unforgettable, but you’ll definitely want more of Myrna, who, to me, is the true star of the book.
Thank you to @netgalley, @harpercollinsca and @lindseykelk for a free digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received an e-arc of Love Me Do by Lindsey Kelk from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I hadn't heard of this book or author before reading, and when I started I was enjoying myself. It was a silly goofy time and the British humour I found kinda funny. I thought it would be like The Holiday, but this let me down.
Unfortunately, this was a DNF. There were some body-shaming comments that I did not appreciate, there were other red flags as well but ultimately I didn't care to keep reading.
DNF @ 31%
I gotta be honest, this one wasn't really my jam. It kinda gave me vibes of "The Holiday" movie, but without the same charm and sweetness. The narrative felt more fanfictiony, rather than offering something fresh and unique.
The main character, Phoebe, gets caught in this matchmaking web, and while the premise had potential, the execution fell flat for me. That whole "falling for someone you're trying to set up with someone else" trope? Not my favourite. And, unfortunately, I struggled to connect with the characters and the writing, so it felt like I was pushing myself to keep turning the pages.
If you're into light-hearted, predictable romantic stories, you might enjoy it more than I did. But for me, this one was a miss.
This book is the perfect summer or vacation read. It is about a British woman who has flown to LA to visit her sister, but instead ends up getting to know all of her friends and neighbours (and of course there’s a love story)! I had such a fun time reading it and I really enjoyed the lead character’s sense of humour and the author’s style of writing. There were many times she had me rolling around laughing! This is such a fun, light hearted and feel-good romance that I would certainly recommend.
I also LOVE the cover artwork!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins Canada for this eARC.
I’ve read all of Lindsey’s novels and I think she is improving as a writer with each new novel. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Tons of humour and her usual wacky hijinks that she has her characters get into. I liked Phoebe, she was relatable and her struggles where written sensitively but real. I loved all the secondary characters especially Myrna, she needs her own book. The love story part was a bit lacking for me. I would have liked more time spent with just Phoebe and Ren. Overall a solid rom-com with more com than rom.
Full of humour, this romance story is worth the read! From descriptive settings to romances with all the feels, Love Me Do by Lindsey Kelk delivers. You’ll feel like you’re on vacation with the main character, and without further ado, let’s meet her!
Meet Phoebe. She travels to Los Angeles to visit her sister who lives in the Hollywood Hills. Cue meeting the next-door neighbour, Ren. He’s a carpenter. We also meet Bel, who is a personal trainer and ex-movie star living in the neighbourhood. Let the love triangle and interesting vacation begin!
I really enjoyed Kelk’s character development and the relationship development throughout the story. It really made for an enjoyable read, gave me all the good vibes, and since it was my first read from Kelk, I will be reading more of her work! This was a cute and cozy romance read. I did enjoy it, but did feel it was a little slow going in some spots along the way. All Jim all I did enjoy this one and would recommend if you enjoy this style of read!
Does anyone remember Amelia Bedelia books? This is the kind of energy this book gave me Aka it was so funny! I loved laughing at it, but I found there was stuff that was deeper as well. Getting out of an emotionally abusive relationship, identity, falling back in love after giving up on it. Really an overall great read.
After a nasty breakup, Phoebe travels to LA for a getaway at her sister Suzanne's house. LA is very different from what British Phoebe is used to, with the heavy traffic, the noise, and all the different types of fizzy water. With the help of Suzanne's trainer, Bel, Phoebe soon starts to get used to the hustle and bustle of it all. When Bel asks Phoebe to help set her up with Suzanne's hot neighbor, Phoebe is happy to assist.. Until she realizes she has feelings for him too.
This was a super fun read. It was humorous and light, like most books I've read by Kelk. The supporting characters were excellent, particularly Myrna. I loved the theme of growth and self-love, and learning that it's ok to not always put everyone else's feelings ahead of your own. I had a bit of frustration with a character in the final act, but overall it was redeemed.
This is my first book by Lindsay Kelk, although I do own the Christmas one, which I'll be prioritizing this holiday season.
I really enjoyed this one; lots of laugh out loud moments, great bonding moments between sisters, and of course, some romance. The neighbour down the street, Myrna, who's in her 80s, is a fantastic addition to the cast of characters.
Definitely a fun read, and I look forward to reading more from this author.
what a cute book! really loved this one! lindsey is a great author. i loved the intergenerational friendships in this one. it was different and a great romcom!
Vacation romance story?- yes please! This was a very lovely friends to lovers tale set in L.A. with lots of loveable and colourful characters. I also enjoyed the love letter drama and old Hollywood star shenanigans.
Right up there among my favorite by this author! This was a fun vacation romance that sees Phoebe Chapman coming to visit her sister in LA in an attempt to be away while her ex gets married. Unfortunately for Phoebe her sister has to leave immediately and she is left to explore the city with her sister's personal trainer Bel and Ren, the hot guy next door.
A greeting card writer, Phoebe somehow finds herself in a Cyrano situation where she writes a letter to Ren pretending to be Bel only to fall for Ren too. Full of heart, found family, a quirky cast of side characters and a swoony romance. This also gave me tons of The Holiday movie vibes with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.
Great on audio with an awesome author's note/Q&A session included at the end in the audiobook. Highly recommended if you want a light, entertaining story with a surprising amount of depth and the important message about not devaluing oneself when it comes to life and love. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!!
CW: intimate partner emotional abuse
This was the first book I have read by this author, but I will be looking for more as this light romantic comedy was delightful. For those looking for spice, this was rather tame, but the characters were fun. I also really enjoyed the humour added by the character of the aging movie star and the LA setting. Sometimes you just want nice and easy and a little escapism and this one filled that need. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. 3.75/5 stars.
Love Me Do is another fun, sweet rom-com by Lindsey Kelk.
Goodness, this was a lot of fun to read. I spent my Saturday this long weekend sitting in my backyard, getting lost in the story that Lindsey had created. I truly enjoy everything about this book. This is one of those books you can read and just enjoy the romance, humour, and characters. It doesn't require anything from you. Now, that isn't to say that this book is all fun and fluff. Lindsey does touch upon the topics of abuse and grief, but these topics don't take over the overall story. They are carefully and thoughtfully woven throughout the story to add heartfelt depth to the book.
I loved how LA was portrayed in this book. Lindsey did a great job bringing this city to life with lush and vibrant details. She takes readers to those typical touristy spots but also to some hidden gems that only locals know about. The story itself has lots of laugh-out-loud moments and moves along at a fairly steady pace. I adored all the secondary characters in this book. They just added so much fun and craziness to the overall story. They also had a surprising depth and showed readers that we shouldn't judge others just by their appearances. Myrna, the spunky elderly lady who lives a few doors down from where Phoebe is staying, stole the show in this story. I knew right from the first time that she appeared on the page and stuck her middle finger up at Phoebe that this lady would keep me on my toes as a reader.
Fans of friends to lovers, love triangle, and slow burn will enjoy Phoebe and Ren's love story. They have an adorable and fun meet-cute, and anytime these two were on the page together, sparks were flying. Ren is a sweetheart, and it's pretty clear that he is crushing on Phoebe (who is oblivious to his feelings) but doesn't think she is interested in him. This means he goes along with Phoebe's plan to get Bel (Phoebe's new friend) and Ren together. Phoebe still struggles to find her own self-worth, something her ex-boyfriend destroyed. She doesn't think that in a million years, a guy as good-looking as Ren would ever consider dating someone like her. It takes some tough love from Myra and Phoebe's sister to finally knock some sense into her. The scenes where Phoebe is trying to help Bel connect with Ren were probably my least favourite part of this book. I think it was because, for some reason, Bel, who is normally kind and outgoing, became this snobbish bitch. It was such a jarring change in personality, and it made me question who the real Bel was. Her character went from fun-loving to bitch-y back to fun-loving. It just didn't work for me. But other than that minor flaw, the love story between Ren and Phoebe was pretty close to perfect. I loved the interactions between these two. The conversation just flowed naturally; nothing felt forced. Love Me Do is a sweeter romance with only a little spice near the book's end.
Love Me Do is a delightful rom-com you cannot help but love.
Thank you, HarperCollins Canada, for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
