Thank you, NetGalley, for an e-ARC of Waffle It! by Kate Woodson.
This book confirmed the magic of how many things you can put in a waffle iron! Thank you, Kate Woodson, for great ideas that helped me realize that waffles aren't just for breakfast. I've already requested that our library order this title, and look forward to using it as a basis for a culinary literacy program.
While I loved the concept of this book {who doesn't want more reasons to break out their waffle iron?), I was disappointed in the execution. Many (more than I'd expect of a book titled "Waffle It!") require the use of a panini press rather than a waffle iron. While it's got some interesting recipes, I was hoping for something more "waffle-focused", though owners of both a waffle iron and a panini press will probably enjoy the variety of recipes herein.
If you recently purchased a waffle maker or want to use the one you already have more often, Waffle it! teaches you more than a hundred recipes you can easily recreate at home.
The book has a classic structure, with four main parts : breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert. The author also included some interesting sauce ideas.
I liked the wide choice of recipes, with a personal preference for the desserts chapter, where you can find super-yummy treats such as the cinnamon peach French toasts, or the caramel apple delight. Unfortunately, I can’t say that all the recipes were that appealing, the "Leftover spaghetti melt" for instance -basically, a spaghetti sandwich - is an abomination. I also noticed that a lot of recipes call for store bought items like cake mix, frozen puff pastry etc. I'm all for easy recipes and don't have any issue with using the occasional ready to use dough or whatever, but I expect to have a complete and reliable recipe in a "cookbook", I'll then decide if I want to make it from scratch or not. Otherwise, any Tiktok video could show me the trick of putting cake mix in a waffle maker.
Aesthetically speaking, this cookbook is okay, I'm not crazy about the layout- not very modern in my opinion (I also noticed that a couple of recipes had the same photo, don't know if it's on purpose). But on the bright side, most pictures are mouth-watering.
The recipes are easy follow and the ingredients seem to have been organized so that you'll have the first ingredient you need at the top of the list and so on. It might help inexperienced people, but I'm not used to it, it bothered me a little bit.
Thank you NetGalley for giving me access to a digital copy of this cookbook in exchange of an honest review.
I had a unique interest in reviewing this book. I am an owner of a bed and breakfast in the country and have been for 30 years. I am always looking for new and different recipes to serve for breakfast and there can be limited variety. I was amazed at all the different uses for a waffle iron, from pizza, to ice cream sandwiches, frittatas and additionally using your waffle iron for paninis. I loved the idea of using cinnamon roll freezer dough in the waffle iron to make a breakfast favorite. Who knew you could even make french toast in the waffle iron? Another recipe I loved was the Toasted Bagel Sandwich. The possibilities were endless, the ideas novel and the recipes delicious. A great book for students in a dorm, kids learning to cook and anyone who wants to explore the waffle iron. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
Waffles are not just for Sunday brunch any longer. If you have not kept up with the current trends, or even if you have, this book gives so many great recipes and ideas that it should be required reading for home chefs. I have 3 types of waffle irons and all of them get ample use. This quick, versatile base for any and every type of dish is a family favorite. I often end up gifting the small waffle irons with several recipes to young couples or singles. Now I can add a copy of this wonderful cookbook too. Definitely gift one to yourself and find out what all the noise is about!!!
I have been wanting to use my waffle maker more and this is the perfect book to help me with that. Really impressed with the photography, everything looked so delicious. I can't wait to try all of the recipes. I am going to have one happy family.
I love my waffle makers but I hate having single-duty appliances. Enter this book, which has options for waffles (duh), but also sandwiches, pastries, and desserts. I'm excited to try them!
The recipes look really good. There were combos that I would not have imagined, but am now excited to try. I am not even a waffle fan, but I was hooked by page 2. I reviewed this title because I was looking for things that I thought my kids would like, but ended up finding things that I wanted to try. So many fun ideas in both sweet and savory.
5 stars
I have been looking for a book like Waffle It! I would see the odd recipe of something made using a waffle iron on the internet, tried some of them or made up my own. But I wished there was something in book form where they were all together and here it is. And, even better, if you don't have a waffle iron, a sandwich maker or panini press will work too.
This is a collection of 101 easy, starter recipes recipes. There aren't many ingredients needed and most are quick to prepare and cook. A small amount of recipes call for some pre-cooked items such as bacon, eggs and chicken. A great way to use your leftovers. The recipes are divided into different categories - breakfast, lunch and snacks, dinner and dessert. There are also four dipping sauces you can make. I would have appreciated more of a variety of sauces if you are going to include them as part of the cookbook. The pictures that accompany the recipes are gorgeous and some of the sandwiches wouldn't make it into the waffle iron, they already look that delicious. And, as a good recipe book should, these will inspire you to create your own recipes.
This book will be a great gift, especially for those living in smaller places who don't have the room for different appliances or are starting out on their own. Or even a gift to yourself. Because some days you just want to make something that is quick and easy.
I loved the idea of this book, especially since I love making waffles in different ways. The pictures, and the way the recipes were set up was great. I do feel however the recipes were a little basic, and would have loved to see more "made from scratch" recipes. The recipes do give inspiration though in how to spruce up your typical waffle.
Shut up and take my money!!!
I don't even know where to start. Reuben Waffles? Hawaiian Waffle Quesadillas? Waffle Crabby Patties?
This entire book has me salivating. I'm a huge lover of all things Waffle. What do I absolutely love about this?
1. Every meal of the day is covered.
Breakfast? Golden Waffle Frittata? Yes, please.
Lunch? Did I mention REUBEN WAFFLE??? Barbecue Chicken Sandwich??
Dinner: Eggplant Parm. On a damned waffle maker? Is this really life?? Or what about a Monte Cristo??? I'll take two.
Dessert: Carrot Cake. Waffle S'mores. Lemon Cake Stackers.
I mean damn. Just damn.
2. A LOT of these recipes could easily be converted to Keto and Gluten free with just a tweek or two. In fact there are a couple already safe for those two lifestyles.
3. It's not just waffles. Panini press and Sandwich maker (everyone's grandma had one in the 80s) ideas are speckled throughout.
4. So many recipes with ingredients you already likely have on hand. Some of these recipes are very economical.
5. You can even get FANCY. Prosciutto and brie (which I could completely live on). Spinach Wontons. Apple Gruyere Sandwich.
Did I say shut up and take my money?? I'm definitely buying some copies for gifts. I'm so in love with this book. Six stars out of 5!
I received an advanced copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
You had me at Waffle! When I saw the book's title, there was no going back. I am a book nerd and a waffle lover, and this book was made for me.
The book has a diverse range of relatively easy recipes to create, so even the most inexperienced cooks could have a go. The introductory information is particularly useful for those who haven't made waffles before or used the equipment..
While I loved many of the recipes in the book, I had expected more batter recipes, but otherwise, a fun way to change up your meal ideas.
I think a lot of people jumped on the waffle it train when Dash came out with their mini waffle maker, and learned they could do much more than make waffles! There are a lot of really great recipes to try in this book, both sweet and savory. I thought at first that this cookbook was another mini waffle cookbook, but this one uses full sized waffle irons. I think my favorite section is the dessert section, I really want to try all of them! The dessert chimichangas, and waffle s'mores look particularly interesting!
This is a fun cookbook designed around using waffles! Some of the recipes are standard breakfast preparations, but others are more of a departure. All of them seem like good fun. I found that all of the recipes seem easy enough for the average home cook to recreate and I enjoyed the photography in the book. I can't say that it's the most cutting edge or revolutionary cookbook, but it's a fun enough book if you're super interested in waffles.
There are some unique recipes in this book that will help it stand out from the other waffling books out there. It definitely made me hungry!
Good recipes for both sweet and savory waffles as well as vegetable waffles. Each recipe includes pictures.
There are also recipes for regular sandwiches using a Panini maker. The measurements are given in cups.
Overall, the cookbook provides tons of inspiration to jazz up plain waffles.
Wow! Who knew there were so many options with a waffle maker! From breakfast to dinner, savory to sweet, healthy to a treat, there are so many options provided in this book, along with plenty of tasty-looking photos. Prepare to up your waffle game.
Thank you Kate Woodson, Fox Chapel Publishing, and NetGalley for providing this ARC for review consideration. All opinions expressed are my own.
Who doesn’t love a hot delicious waffle? Waffle It! is a fun cookbook full of unique recipes that use your waffle iron to cook things you normally wouldn’t think to cook in a waffle iron. I can’t wait to try the waffle-ly French toast and the apple tart recipe. The pictures were bright and the recipes were clear with easy to follow instructions.
**Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review.**
This book is mouthwatering. I mean is there anything better than waffles or toasted sandwiches? I mean c’mon.
Another favorite of mine in that it has a picture for each recipe and I would eat more than 75% of the book.
Warning! Do not read on an empty stomach!
It’s time to pull out that old waffle maker (or Panini press or sandwich maker) that’s been unused for years, and make some fun and easy dishes form an excellent cookbook, Waffle It! 101 Delicious Dishes to Create with Your Waffle Maker, Sandwich Maker, and Panini Press - Unique Recipes - Grilled Cheese, Apple Tarts, Wontons, French Toast, and More by Kate Woodson. The recipes are fun and unique – who knew that so many scrumptious things could be made in these small appliances?
Not only are there great recipes, but invaluable information on cleaning and using a waffle iron. The recipes are fun, innovative, and mouthwatering. Included are great recipes for waffles and French toast that are traditionally made in a waffle iron, but also dozens of sandwiches, snacks, side dishes, and desserts that are fun to prepare and especially fun to eat.
The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first followed by step-by-step instructions that are easy to follow. Most of the recipes are easy and call for minimal ingredients making it possible for almost anyone to prepare picture perfect dishes.
One thing that is missing is comments at the beginning of each recipe. That isn’t a no-go, but it would be nice to have a little more information on the recipes. However, there are beautiful, professional photographs of each recipe which helps to find recipes that you actually want to make.
All told, this is a fun cookbook and includes plenty of recipes that are both easy and appealing.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.
