Adrienne Young is an author that I can always count on for a well developed story. This one took me longer to get into than some of her others but once I was hooked I had trouble putting it down. This is a very complicated story about June's life and the unexpected turns it takes after the death of her grandmother.
There were complex relationships, complicated time elements, and well written thoughts and feelings of the characters. I don't want to give too much away, but this one required a significant amount of thought and consideration to keep up with what was going on. But I felt like it was very well done. I was really sad when it was over. I felt like I wasn't ready to let go of these characters.
Thank you Netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book! It was an incredible mix of history and fantastical elements that made it so much fun. June was such a complex character and the battles she must face inside of her mind and in real life felt very realistic and I enjoyed it so much. The complex mystery in this story was so cool and had me guessing until the end of the story. I’m excited to read some of Adrienne’s other books!
Thank you to netgalley for the advanced copy of this book!
Where to even begin... I absolutely love how this book throws you into the mystery and doesn't hold back after that. I don't want to give away too much in my review, because I have quite a few friends who love Adrienne Young and now I understand why.
The book was incredibly atmospheric and I found myself immersed almost immediately. My only issue with it is that it felt like things were a little rushed, but timing is hard... when there's time travel. It was a big cast of characters, secrets, and historical things coming at you at once. I'm definitely going to sit down and reread this one again just to see if I missed things. But that in and of itself should tell you how much I enjoyed it, because I barely reread books.
Oh how I loved this book! You can feel the magic radiating from the pages as you follow June’s journey to discover the secret of the Farrow women and the choices she must make to save herself and her family.
I had no idea what this book was about all i knew was that i love Adrienne Young’s writing so much. I love how she takes a story and works in paranormal/ supernatural elements but in such a realistic way. This story was sweet and as a mother to a 3 year old daughter it really hit home for me.
This was perfectly paced for a stand-alone. It wasn’t too long or too short. I loved how the past and present were woven together. I LOVED this story. Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read in exchange for a review!
Although her characters can be quite a bit unformed, Adrienne Young is a gifted storyteller. I really got wrapped up in this, a bewitching tale that would translate so well to screen.
This read was so good!! The Unmaking of June Farrow combines romance and a touch of magic, that had me hooked right away. This style of storytelling is slowly becoming one of my favorites. June Farrow lives in Jasper, North Carolina. Her family has actually lived on this land forever. The Farrow women have been able to have a successful flower farm for all the years. But Nunez is bored. She wants to know more about her mother, the land and a potential curse on the women in her family. Where does she start? Who does she ask? To make matters worse her mother disappeared without a trace and now June is hearing things and seeing things that aren’t real. Her world starts to spin out of control and when her grandmother dies, she starts to unravel the secrets that have been kept from her. She is convinced she doesn’t have much time because she begins to see a door, out of no where.. she must decide to go through it or to keep ignoring it. This good lead her to all the answers ? Are the Farrow women really cursed?
This was such a beautiful story. It was so well written. I loved the characters so much. There was so many layers to this story that it made it such a great read. This was a 4 1/2 star read for me. I keep recommending it to friends and family. What are your thoughts?
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an e-copy of this book! This review was voluntary, and all opinions are my own.
4.5 stars, rounded up to 5 because I love Adrienne Young. Her recent adult releases have been truly outstanding.
June is such an interesting character and I was rooting for her the whole time. I love to see a book with a 34-year-old protagonist. It is compulsively readable and, like all of Young's work, it is beautifully written. That being said, June feels like really the only fully fleshed out character in the story. I wish we had seen more from Mason and Easton and Margaret, but I think that is just a product of this being a fairly short book.
Something that I particularly enjoyed about this book was that I felt like I was so along for the ride as June tried to figure out what was happening. I was 100% invested and consumed the book in just a few hours because it was so unputdownable.
Honestly, my biggest complaint about this book is that I wish it was longer, both so we could have seen a little more from the characters and so that I could have enjoyed reading it for longer. Additionally, I found some of the wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff to be both a little difficult to follow and a little predictable, but I consider this to be a pretty minor problem since it really didn't affect how much I enjoyed reading the book.
I don't even know how to put into words how much I love this book. I've been a huge fan of Adrienne Young since Sky in the Deep, and I marvel at how quickly her writing develops. Simply amazing.
Thank you NetGalley and Random House Publishing for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.
I spent most of this book asking myself what is going on. The author weaves a beautiful story about a murder and lost memories. It took me a few times reading paragraphs to fully understand the time jumping. So I’m thankful the author explained it a few times.
The mystery of June was done so well. It was so intriguing to watch her piece together her mom’s disappearance and what it meant for her. I enjoyed the second chance romance and watching her put the pieces together of why she did what she did.
Overall the story was super interesting and I enjoyed the intrigue. I was kept guessing on what happened and why she did it.
Thank you Netgalley, author, and the publishers for allowing me the opportunity to read this e-arc. I look forward to reading more.
I enjoyed this book and could not put it down. I felt invested in the story and loved the characters.
Wow this book hit me in the feels so many times. I saw some of the twists coming but also was totally blindsided by others (which is exactly how I like it) Adrienne continues her streak of writing with beautiful prose that is so atmospheric I could be there in that time sitting next to June along her journey.

Honestly I don't feel my words to review this will do justice to the words gifted to us by Adrienne Young.
I have read most of her books but will say this has become my favorite.
What to say.....less is more. Go into this knowing as little as possible. Read with your heart and the rest will follow.
I enjoyed this book! However, I personally wasn't too drawn into the plot, and I found the main characters to be uninteresting. I think the writing was very well done, and I liked the elements of magical realism sprinkled throughout the book. I found the rules of when June could time travel confusing, and it repeatedly took me out of the story. I wish there was a more seamless way for this to have been accomplished, but again, that was probably more of a me problem! Overall, this was my first adult novel by Young, and I look forward to reading more from her!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC!
This book was an absolute hit for me!!! It literally took me only a few hours (through the wee hours of the night as I started it at 8pm🤭) to read and I just wanted more and more!!! @adrienneyoungbooks ‘s writing is so beautiful and descriptive I felt like I could vividly see every single scene! I loved the lite magical realism and the bonds of all the Farrow women and their LONG history! The small town vibes were sooo on point and I just had so much fun with this book!

Whoa! This story was mind boggling. I'm still trying to wrap my head around what I just read. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole book. This was an amazing journey. This book will be sitting with me for a long time. I loved it and I will definitely be recommending it to everyone I know.
Loved the overall feeling of this book. Pacing felt a little slow for my liking but overall a really solid book.
This was such an immersive, unexpected read! I went into The Unmaking of June Farrow completely blind (I read blurbs and promptly forget them) and was led down the most captivating rabbit hole that was this mind-bending story of magical realism and love.
June Farrow, the last of her line, believes the women of her family to be cursed with insanity. The truth is far more extraordinary. There were times were I felt really bad for June - constantly being vilified and blamed for actions she technically didn't commit, I was rooting for her through the whole thing.
I'll be honest though, while I think I understood the general concept of the time-slipping, the explanations may have been more complicated than they needed to be. Despite that vague confusion, it doesn't distract from the compelling murder mystery and final revelations (even if theories turned out to be right).
This is my first Adrienne Young novel, but I'll definitely be looking into her other works.
