It was an okay read for me. I didn't like the writing that much. Was boring at times:) did I like it? Yes
Will I reread ? No
I couldn't resist the tempting cover and synopsis. A spoiled rich girl who switches life with a mechanic for a bet? Yes, please!!
To be honest, I'm surprised I stuck with this book until the end. The writing style is clunky and muddled. There is no smooth transition between sentences and paragraphs. It was very hard to situate myself in the story and immerse myself in the characters, especially in Chapter 1. The writing style does improve a bit after Chapter 1, but the lack of smooth transition is still an issue in the later chapters. The author often switches from one topic to another so abruptly that I have to go back and check to see if I misread or missed something. There were also quite a few continuity errors that confused me.
Why did I continue reading? Well, I was invested in the story. Even though I was not a fan of the writing style, I give the author props for writing an interesting and fast-paced story. Plus, the shenanigans were very funny, especially when Lexi and Evan struggled to adapt in each other's lives. I had a good laugh here and there, so my reading experience was not too terrible.
This book was a solid 2 star...up until the conflict. It was really annoying and I don't think Evan groveled enough. His reaction after she confessed her feelings turned me off so much. Not only did he give her the most asinine response, he also completely ignored it afterwards. I'm sorry, but that is not romance hero material. It just didn't sit well with me and it was bad enough that I decreased my rating.
Overall, good concept, story, and pacing. But the writing needs more polishing. It almost feels like the book is a draft that has yet to go through the editing process.
4 Stars for Trading Places!
I adored this book, for starters. I think that Evan Bailey and Lexi North were truly made for each other. Their chemistry was undeniable, and you could feel it through the pages. Starting with Evan, I loved his character development. One of the most realistic things about Trading Places is the way that he parents his niece, Cece. His parenting style is great especially for having to raise a 12 year-old, while only being 27 himself. His development spans the whole novel, and it comes together beautifully in the end.
Lexi has to be one of my favorite romance characters. From not knowing how to do anything by herself to becoming quite the woman to stand up for herself, it was apparent her growth shocked everyone about her. From growing from a socialite with no concept of money or how the world works to a woman running her own household and having a passion for working, it was truly commendable.
The only thing that stopped me from rating 5 stars was the introductory chapter and the miscommunication. the first chapter was quite a struggle to read, it felt like almost an info-dumping of the rich and famous meets Jersey Shore. It was very intense and in your face. The miscommunication trope is not my favorite, and the best part of the book was the middle and the end end. I dont like miscommunication and I felt like the book still could have been whole without it!!
Thank you Entangled Publishing, Emily Duvall, and NetGalley for this ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.
This was a pretty quick read that was almost even quicker because if Lexi had been the same for even one more chapter I would have abandoned her 😂
Evan had his heart in the right place, and pretty quickly Lexi did too. But unfortunately everyone is so terrible at communicating that they’re basically imploding their own lives. Also someone should have pushed Hudson off the yacht.
I felt like there was good character development but it was a little too rapid and then inconsistent. And I would have loved to know more about Cece’s story, because she’s really the most important person to everyone in the book and I adore her.
Though I am sure this book is for someone, it is not for me. I had a hard time supporting/getting into the characters, especially Lex. I also didn't really believe the bet? I wanted to, and I liked the idea of this 'switching' lives thing but it felt very rushed. I might give this a re-read once published as well, because the formatting of the ARC was pretty off on my kindle. Overall, a 2.5 star read. Didn't super love it, but didn't hate it.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you Entangled Publishing for allowing me to read this book in advance!
I was in a little bit of a reading slump and this book helped me get out of it. I have a lot of feelings and thoughts about this story. I found The whole bet-drama a bit ridiculous while reading it, Evan saying he knew Lexi even though he barely met her. The first flirty texts RIGHT after he finds out she's connected to the Hoffmans? It just felt disconnected, he was worried and then just started flirting. He says some stuff that I found out of place "<i>I don't want to think badly of her, but she let me put my hands on her five minutes ago and now...</i>" he just toucher her arm or something. And it's the little things like this that have me not liking Evan.
When Lexi's dad threatens Evan about the NDA? Why was that coming from him?
And the attraction just seemed to come out of nowhere, it felt so forced and with no flow whatsoever.
So I have my bones to pick with this story, but it was ready and quick to read.
2.5/5
This story was one interesting read. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was because the reasoning for Lexi and Evan even agreeing to the bet seemed truly impulsive and out-of-character for both of them.
As for the characters, Evan was so adorably gruff, annoying and hilarious. I loved how he treated Lexi as his equal, and didn't treat her like a spoiled princess. But, of course, without even realizing, he made sure that she knew that he'd be there for her, if she ever needed him.
Lexi's character is probably my favorite. It's most visible a little later in the book, but I truly identified with and felt her pain. I didn't like her character in the first few chapters. She seemed annoying, and out-of-touch with reality. It almost made me stop reading the book altogether. But, as I continued to read on and different facets of her character were revealed, I began to see the character that she was going to be.
This book intrigued me the first time I saw it’s cover and I actually enjoyed it!
Enemies to lovers with great banter is always my favorite type of book. Spoiled socialite and a grumpy mechanic meet and agree to switch lives for a bet.
It took me a little bit to get into this book because Lexi annoyed me so much but her character arc really made this book enjoyable! I enjoyed getting to know Evan and CeCe and found it interesting how Evan changed for the worst for a little bit.
The ending was a little rushed which is why i went with 4 stars and the reasons why they agreed to the bet was a little far-fetched. I still enjoyed this book though, A cute rom-com type of book!

The premise of this book is fantastic. A spoiled heiress forced to trade places with a down to earth mechanic after she crashes into him and promises to pay him, but forgets that she threw her money away by "making it rain" in an embarrassing spectacle to catch the attention of a man she loves. While disagreeing about her car, the mechanic's niece starts live filming them, which forces the trade. Lexi, the heiress has an incredible character arc where she shows true emotional growth. The down to earth mechanic, Evan, gets caught up in living the life of the 1% and forgets what makes him a truly great human being. This book is full of fun scenes and situations as the two of them navigate their new worlds and interact with each other. All in all, it's a sweet story with a happy ending.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to receive this ARC in return for an honest review.
"Trading Places" starts off really strong with a rich and spoiled lady named Lexi who quickly falls from her fancy life. She switches lives with a mechanic named Evan because of a video bet. They trade places for two months. If Evan wins, he gets $100k from Lexi, and if Lexi wins, she gets a special bracelet back and doesn't lose her family's money (which Evan doesn't even know about).
We meet Lexi and Evan as they switch places. Evan and his niece Cece move into Lexi's big house, while Lexi goes to live in Evan's not-so-nice house with his cat. They also swap jobs – Evan plans fancy parties, and Lexi learns to change car oil.
As the story goes on, we watch Lexi change a lot. She goes from loving parties to realizing there's more to life. Her character grows a bunch. But Evan's story takes a different turn. He starts out nice but becomes a bit mean. Honestly, it's tough to like him by the end. He starts thinking people with money are snobby and ends up acting snobby himself. It would have been great if he could've learned and grown like Lexi did. Her growth is awesome to see, even if Evan's story wasn't as positive of a switch. The book teaches us about looking at things from different angles and learning from others.
Ah, nothing more refreshing than an enemies to lovers romance.
Lexi North and Evan Bailey originally clashed with each other. Their “hatred” for each other resulted in a bet that neither of them could really go back on or get out of.
Right from the get go, I fell in love with Evan’s resilience, gruffness, and his need to take care of his family. He was willing to do whatever he could to prove himself to Lexi and take care of his family. Lexi was a self-made influence and heiress, how could that go wrong?
Throughout their time together, who knew that trading places would lead to a different life and love.
There was a few things about the book that I thought could be better: the ending on the book felt a bit rushed. I would’ve loved to see a scene with more of a happy ending, but I’ll take what I can get. The spots where it could use a bit of help was when the chapter ended and a new one began or when more info needed to be given to us readers, so we could make sense of the scenes coming up.
Overall, I really did love this book and would suggest to anyone who loves an enemies to lovers with a bit of rough around the edges, to give this a try. Thanks NetGalley and Emily for the ARC!
I really enjoyed the story. Lexi and Evan were a fun couple, and I was really rooting for them by the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC.
I read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was hard to rate. I found the plot and characters interesting enough to finish reading it, however it was quite choppy and the dialogue was hard to follow sometimes.
I think because it was slightly predictable, it was a good thing, as the interactions between Lexi and Evan were a bit stilted at times.
I love enemies to lovers, so I thought this book would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it didn’t start off so well. I almost gave up in the middle of chapter 1 because I couldn’t imagine Lexi ever doing anything to redeem herself from her behavior.
I kept reading, hoping it might get better, and it did to a certain point. Lexi definitely had a good character arc and ended up becoming a good person. Unfortunately, Evan then turned into a turd, which made it doubly hard to want to read. By the end the issues with the writing (quite juvenile and grammatically incorrectness such as attributing action to inanimate objects or people who they don’t belong to) made it hard to finish. I’m giving it three stars because the middle was enough to keep me invested.

This was an enjoyable and easy read. The story and the character development weren't rushed. Things you'll find in this book: enemies to lovers, dual POV, rich girl and average Joe, single parent. Some points that I didn't love: the bet that both characters agree to seemed a little contrived to get the story going, and some of the transitions (time and place) were a little fuzzy to me. Otherwise this was a fun and lighthearted read that kept me engaged.
I enjoyed the premise but the side characters were more interesting and meant more to me than the main characters. In the first half, Evan was great and Lexi was so unlikable. It's a shame that her character development and introspection was mostly implied with some parts explicitly told us and not enough was SHOWN. Evan's weird character backpedaling suffers from the same issues and it seems as though he becomes vain out of nowhere.
I received an advance reader copy at no cost and am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
Lex & Evan have a very unfortunate meet cute and after a heated debate is live streamed on social media, agree to trade lives for 2 months to see who can win a bet.
Lex is an heiress and has no understanding of what it means go without. Evan is a mechanic who is guardian of his niece, whose annual salary is less than what Lex gets in a month from her trust fund.
I absolutely adored both Lex and Evan - however, while I hate the change that we saw in Evan, I loved the growth that we saw with Lex. Both characters had beautiful character development that felt so right for the story. I felt like the third act breakup could have been done differently - only because I HATE when miscommunication causes the third act breakup.
Overall, very cute story and a very quick read.

Lexi North caps the worst night of her life off with a car accident that'll change not only the trajectory of her life, but the life of Evan Bailey as well. After skipping out on the post-accident towing bill, she finds herself tricked into a bet that threatens to take her from riches to rags, permanently. The lack of A/C in her temporary accomodations isn't the only thing making her hot either.
Everyone loves a good riches to rags story and I am no exception. It's why we were so enthralled with the Simple Life in the early 2000s. Without giving too much away, both characters have significant growth during the period of their bet which can be endearing and frustrating, at times. I loved the way the author portrayed a rich girl navigating the obstacles of poverty and the little things that people with money tend to never consider like when Bowser needs some extra TLC and how devastating to a budget that can be.
My favorite characters, however, were Bowser and CeCe. I did come to love Lexi midway through the book.
I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel good, lighthearted, rom-com but with really good character growth arcs. It's definitely going to be a cozy fall read once it's released.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
This was such a cute rom com…completely up my alley. i fell in love with all of the characters and i literally could not put this book down once i started. thank you netgalley for this read
This ended as a five-star read, but sadly didn’t start that way. I honestly had to start this twice, as the first time I started it I really didn’t care for Lexi, she aggravated me in ways that I just couldn’t look past, but I hate not finishing so I stated again, and figured so what if I hate the main character, she obviously has reasons for being a soul sucking human, who would charge her bestie for a selfie, even for charity that’s not okay. Evan saved this story, there was just an adorableness to him, well at first there was. Honestly, I didn’t know what to think by the end, I was thrown, but that’s also what I enjoyed about the story. I haven’t read this author before, but I do think I would read them again, as they really played with my emotions.
