This book was hard to put down because it was as witty as it was charming, and I really enjoyed reading this one
good romance about a rich girl and mechanic that fall in love and trade places . she learns about herself and he learns something about her. loved the co workers at the garage and the romance there too. Would love to read the brother's story too. very sexy times.
Actual Rating 3.5 stars
Where to begin?
When I first started reading this book I was worried. Immediately I strongly disliked Lexi. She was snobbish, rude and treated her friends terribly. My fear was that I would have to DNF this book because if there's one thing I hate, it's shitty main characters. Then along came the bet in which Lexi was thrust into the life of someone with budgets, cooking for herself and *gasp* actually having to work for her money! I started to enjoy the book after this point and it was fun to see Lexi change and adapt to her new situation and grow as a person.
The opposite happened with our other main character, Evan. I liked him to start off with, sure he was grouchy with having to deal with our lovely spoiled heiress, but he had heart and cared deeply for his family. Then somewhere along the line, he just wasn't cool anymore? I understand that it was part of the story but it ruined his character for me for the rest of the book. Anything he said or did felt shallow and lost and even the HEA was tainted by his actions. If someone can change that much due to having money once, what's to stop him from doing it again in the future?
In the end, I just wasn't sure how I felt about the whole story so I've given it a generous 3.5 stars as I did really enjoy parts of it, but other parts just felt under developed and a let down. I would have really loved to have seen more of Lexi working at the mechanics and getting more in depth with trying to help save the business, and more of Evan taking care of CeCe and them spending time together in their new environment.
All in all, a pretty solid book and I would recommend it to anyone needing an easy contemporary romance that gives 90's romcom vibes.
Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC, for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
Great read I would recommend others to read this. It is a small town romcom that will give you all the emotions. It also has the miscommunication trope which I’m not a huge fan of but this book did it well and it wasn’t the whole plot. Main characters are flawed and likable making them feel real. The ‘antagonist’ was a character I disliked from the get go but didn’t understand why until later on in the book, which was really good.
This book is about a spoiled socialite and a grumpy mechanic whose worlds 'collide' in spectacular fashion. What happens if they were to trade places? Could they live in each others world. After a series of encounters, these two characters are dared to step into the lives of each other. With the incentive of money (with a side of ego) they agreed to do this. How hard can it be? Right?
My Review - ☆☆☆☆
What a roller coaster of a read. When we start to read this book, we are with Lexi. I disliked her instantly. This was a weird feeling as I enjoy connecting with the main characters and I was worried I would struggle with the book. This was not the case. Reading through this story, I really rooted for Lexi and she quickly became my favourite character perspective. Her journey was not an easy one, but it was incredibly heart warming. Evan threw me. I instantly liked him, a bit stubborn but he was great. I expected him to shake the socialite world up, however, love changes people and makes you want to change and be better. This story also shows money changes people.
This story had me hooked in a surprising way. I wanted to shake Evan and hug Lexi. I loved that these characters were genuine and real. Highly recommended!!
This was a good read. When I read the sinopses I thought this was going to be a favourite or at least 4 stars,.I think it lacks the swoony moments for me.
Overall was a quick and pleasant read
It’s was just okay. The characters were fine. It was just a normal rom com. Nothing spectacular but it was still entertaining
This book was ok. The premise of a spoiled socialite switching lives with a mechanic as a social media bet was kind of weird to me. I didn't have a lot of swoony moments. Thank you netGalley and the publisher for the ARC for my honest review.
I have books with a similar premise. But I enjoyed the story and the characters. It was worth the read.
I'm on the fence with my feelings for this book. Did I like the main characters? Not really, did I basically read the book any chance I got to finish it and find out the outcome, yes, yes I did. Lexi is such a huge insensitive bitch in the beginning. Like seriously, she should have been arrested when she hit Evan because of her drinking and driving. How quickly Lexi flipped to being a sweet wholesome girl next door was jarring. It pretty much happened overnight. Evan changing to a rich a-hole was a surprise, but his change happened pretty much overnight as well. Having the connection between CeCe and Craig was a bit of a stretch, like there should have been more of a backstory there, something with meaning instead of glancing over Natalie robbing someone at gun point and apparently being in jail for life for it. Overall, I did enjoy it, just wish it didn't reach elsewhere so much.
This is a book about a socialite and mechanic who meet when she wrecks into him, and they end up making a bet to swap lives. It started slow for me the first 20ish% but then I was hooked! It was a fun plot, I enjoyed watching their love story, and some of the family dynamics. I wish there was a closed loop with Lexi’s mother. I also wish Evan rounded their story out more in the end. A solid epilogue would have been great for this book!
I wasn't sure how I felt about this book when I first started it, but after getting a little more into it, it started to grow on me. I liked the character development of Lexi going from an insensitive socialite without a care for money, to someone who understands the hard work behind every dollar made. I loved that Even was a grump in the beginning but slowly started to warm up as their story went on. Overall I really enjoyed reading this book and I liked the plot line as well as the angsty romance that came with it. I decided to give this book three stars because I just felt a little disconnected from the characters.
Okay so I’ll start by saying this book had the potential to be great… but it just fell very short of that for me.
Lexi was very unlikeable in the beginning which made sense for the story but it felt like the more progress she made to be a better version of herself, Evan went in the completely opposite directions.
I did not like his character at all. In the beginning, yes I liked him, he was a family man who loves his niece and was hot as hell, but it just went down hill from there, all of sudden he’s having a quarter life crisis and basically wishing he didn’t have Cece and started feeling so entitled to everything. Even when they tried to say he was good again, I just, did not like him.
I felt the only real thing between Lexi and Evan was sex, Lexi had grown so much in the last months and I just think that Evan didn’t deserve her, at all.
3/5 just because I did enjoy seeing Lexi’s character grown and blossom into a good person.
This book is an angst-filled, opposites attract, laugh out loud read. When a grumpy car mechanic and a spoiled socialite meet after she rear-ends him, what could go wrong? In short, everything. But even more than that, things start to go right. Seeing these two characters live each other’s lives and gain perspective was so fun! And then falling in love while they do it? Even better. This story is a rom-com that will have you laughing, tearing up, and feeling all warm and fuzzy. A definite worthwhile read!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Entangled Publishing and Netgalley for an ARC.
I really enjoyed this book. I finished it one day because I just wanted to keep reading it.
I loved the character development of Lexi and feel like this is an important lesson we all can learn from.
Evan’s character development while frustrated me I also feel like it’s important. We always want what others have but it’s not always as good as it sounds.
Overall I liked this book!
I picked this up as a Read Now galley. It is badly formatted for ebook and, mixed with the flat prose of chapter one, I'm not going to be continuing. My rating does not reflect an actual opinion on the content.
A quick thank you to NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and the author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Light-hearted, but somehow deep, I found myself completely unable to put this down. I laughed, I cried, I loved everything about this.
Lexi North, a spoiled heiress, and Evan Bailey, a mechanic, meet under rather unfortunate circumstances. Lexi has a very public meltdown following a tough breakup, then in her haste to flee the scene of said meltdown she rear ends Evan. The two then find themselves agreeing to switch lives after Evan's niece (basically daughter) live streams a heated debate between the two of them.
Throughout the story we get to see a lot of personal growth from Lexi. She realizes that the way she's been living is very... lonely. She craves love, which both of her parents have withheld from her growing up. Slowly but surely, she comes to appreciate the things most of us would take for granted. Evan on the other hand, does a bit of the opposite. He leans into the good life and doesn't want to give it up, but I did find his reasoning understandable. When they both inadvertently fall for each other, they have to work through every challenge their different worlds present.
This story was one interesting read. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars was because the reasoning for Lexi and Evan even agreeing to the bet seemed truly impulsive and out-of-character for both of them. I think that there should've been a little more meat to them getting from hearing Cece's suggestion to actually agreeing to go through with it.
As for the characters, Evan was so adorably gruff, annoying and hilarious. I loved how he treated Lexi as his equal, and didn't treat her like a spoiled princess. But, of course, without even realizing, he made sure that she knew that he'd be there for her, if she ever needed him. Of course, he did make a certain major booboo, but he truly did redeem himself in the end.
Lexi's character arc is probably my favorite. It's most visible a little later in the book, but I truly identified with and felt her pain. I didn't like her character in the first few chapters. It almost made me stop reading the book altogether. But, as I continued to read on and different facets of her character were revealed, I began to see the character that she was going to be.
This is a sweet story about merging two very different worlds, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in a fun, adorable, enemies-to-lovers story!
NOTE: ARC received in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Lexi is a shallow socialite who spends her days spending money. Evan is a mechanic with guardianship over his niece when Lexi crashes into his car. A bet posted on social media and an ultimatum from her father has Lexi trading places with Evan. This premise was a little silly but actually ended up working. Lexi is insufferable at first but I do like her character growth. I did not like Evan and thought he was pretty much a jerk. I actually kept hoping that the story would have a twist and Lexi would end up with Alec, Evan’s twin brother. This affected my opinion of the book in the end.
I received a digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.
