This book was amazing, the juxtaposition of putting the wealthy socialite against the pauper mechanic and having them switch lives left me really surprised.
A really pleasant read and I devoured it within a day and a half.
3.5 stars. Great main characters, good world-building, some funny moments. Evan's decent into snobbery was a bit over the top, though, and there was quite a bit of melodrama there at the end. Still, an enjoyable read.
Absolutely loved this book! From the captivating storyline to the well-developed characters, every page had me hooked. The writing style was engaging. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a gripping read!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my goodness, this was such a fun romance! Lexi is a socialite and when she rear-ends Evan, and his niece proposes a bet, they 'switch places.' This story certainly had moments that were laugh out loud and that made me snort. Lexi's growth in this story was EVERYTHING but there were times where I wanted to put Evan into a headlock and noogie him. Honestly.
Overall though, this is a cute read and I would recommend it if you're looking for something short and sweet!

With its fast-paced plot, sharp dialogue, and richly drawn characters, "Trading Places" is a must-read for fans of thrillers and suspense. Emily Duvall has crafted a gripping tale that will leave readers breathless and eager for more. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a page-turner that will keep them guessing until the final twist.
this weirdly reminded me of “the princess switched” on netflix. the concept was cool but i just didnt enjoy the story.
A selfish and spoiled heiress and a mechanic make a bet to swap lives for two months and fall in love along the way.
It was a cute story. I was expecting it to be more funny and wanted to have some laugh out loud moments when I picked up the book but I was sadly disappointed..
I couldn’t connect to either of the characters and I longed for more depth.
The premise was really good and it had a great opportunities for more .
Overall the story was…meh. I couldn’t connect to either of them and I longed for more depth. What I need after this is an epilogue at least a year later that has a proposal.
I ama. sucker for the "switching of lives" aspect in books, and this one did not disappoint! Lexie, after getting into a car accident with our MMC Evan, bets that she can do what he can do, and as it was broadcast, she has to follow through with the bet. I loved that we see how Lexie learns to live as a "normal" human, one that is down-to-earth, but then on the other hand, Evan starts to change who he is in order to better suit Lexie (whom he starts to have feelings for!).
Overall, this was a fun and cute read and I love that we get our HEA!
Trading Places was a hilariously delightful romantic comedy that I devoured! I typically enjoy fantasy romance more than contempory but this book sucked me right in. Both Lexi and Evan experience real, touching character development that really shows off their three-dimensional nature. Duvall did a fantastic job at creating realistic, yet likeable characters that you cannot help but root for.
This book was exactly the fun, light-hearted ride that I was expecting. There was certainly room for the author to dig a bit deeper into each character's motives and the darker elements of their pasts, but honestly for a rom-com, I wasn't dissapointed at all.
This was so interesting and unique! I loved it that Lexi and Evan had to change places. It provided for so many great opportunities for self exploration, growth, and all around shenanigans. I think this will appeal to both romance lovers and people who enjoy more serious women’s fiction.
2.5
This book is pretty fun if you want to read a light fun romcom. But I still wasn't a fan and ended up dnf'ing. The writing felt clunky at times and it was almost confusing. I couldn't get invested in the romance, the story and I definitely didn't want to root for the main characters. They felt kind of flat .
Still a fun reverse-role type of thing book if you enjoy that trope!
Trading Places by Emily Duvall is a fun story line with great characters. While the cover gives away the premise to the book, it is one worth reading. The main character at times frustrated me but her growth redeems her.
Thank you, NetGalley and the publishers for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
The book's premise intrigued me, and I appreciated the transformation of the main characters as they assumed their new roles, particularly finding Lexi's evolution to be more skillfully portrayed. Admittedly, I initially despised Lexi, a testament to the author's adept depiction of her spoiled-brat persona – a commendable feat. Lexi's character development, however, proved immensely rewarding, offering a refreshing shift toward humility.
Regrettably, the yacht scene proved to be the book's downfall for me. The public humiliation and the ensuing web of lies and miscommunication, especially involving Hudson, marred the narrative. Regardless of any subsequent groveling, the actions of both Lexi and Evan surpassed the threshold of redemption in my eyes, leaving little room for recovery.
Despite this setback, the book remained relatively enjoyable, boasting moments of humor that added to its overall appeal. While the yacht scene left a sour taste, the positive aspects of the story, including Lexi's transformation, contributed to a generally entertaining reading experience.
Trading Places was the perfect swap of lives with a special twist. Lexi is a spoiled socialite who goes through life with no true thought or understanding at the cost while Evan is making ends meet just barely while raising his niece. When a bet to swap lives against the two goes viral, they do just that.
Lexi's character growth from spoiled brat to compassionate and working hard was the best. She reminded me of Alexis Rose from Schitt's Creek and by the end I was absolutely smitten with her as a person. Faced with some hilarious challenges and moments that readers will relate to, Emily Duvall knocked it out of the park with this debut.
A balance of growth, banter, comedy, and romance- this is a great feel good story to end the year on.
I did not like Lexi in the beginning but she grew on me. Heartfelt, witty, and thought provoking.
Many thanks to Entangled and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
It was fun to read and didn't take long. There were funny parts and cute scenes that made me smile. But sometimes it felt a little too much. As you might expect, Lexi and Evan's lives change when they live together. I never thought Evan was the same person after he played the rich jerk part. I really wanted Lexi to get better in the end.
📖My Thoughts📖
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live the life of someone else? I don’t know about you, but I have. Not often, but it’s crossed my mind. This is actually one of my favorite tropes honestly. I’m not entirely sure why, other than the fact that it always seems like it typically brings about a new perspective to people after all is said and done, which I think is important. I love how this was incorporated in Trading Places. It seemed very enlightening for both main characters and also made for an intriguing storyline. While on one hand the book was lighthearted and entertaining, however, it also incorporated (and very well I might add) some serious and eye opening elements at the same time. I think it was a very well written and fast paced book with several humorous moments. I really enjoyed reading this one! I think this is one that everyone should read. It’s very thought provoking, and I to be honest, I really like the concept of people switching lives and how much it affects and changes them after seeing things from a whole different perspective.
Thank you Netgalley, Entangled Publishing LLC and Emily Duval for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The writing felt much like an unedited draft, there were a bunch of very abrupt transitions and some obvious continuity errors, but the comedic struggles of Lexi and Evan gave me a couple chuckles.
I was on board with a solid 3-star rating until the conflict came to a head. The MMC response to FMC confession and his subsequent behavior turned me off. Almost enough to DNF the book.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
