This is a good book. The two main characters are Fortune and Jason. They meet on a dating app. They start talking and they decide to meet. There is an instant attraction. They start dating. They each have issues but together they work it out and fall in love.
Overall good book... A curvy girl, will they won't they kind of book... A character who has real self image problems... I just thought the ending would have been a bit more different..
I love a plus-sized heroine, because it shows that us big girls can and should be the stars. We are more than the feisty best friends. Fortune is great. and I really liked that the mix-up was resolved pretty quickly as it would have ruined the story if it had dragged on.
The story is humourous, engaging and has a deeper message. Overall it is a book that I have to recommend. i received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

The Accidental swipe is a contemporary romance following the perspectives of Fortune and Jason. The writing was good, and I read this book very quickly. The plot was ok, but it had a lot of miscommunications happening through the story and Fortune made a number of decisions that I thought were mean and was going to be very hurtful to the love interest. The story was very predictable, and I didn't really like how it played out.
I really liked the character Jason, he was thoughtful, really interested in getting to know Fortune, and really trying to communicate with her on what he wanted. The relationship development felt really one sided that one character was really interested while fortune was really back and forth. Fortune had so many insecurities and tried to rush things with Jason and when it did not go her way, she panicked and self-sabotaged. There were some spicy scenes in this book which were ok. There was quite a bit of fat shaming in this store from a number of characters, so be aware before going into this book. Overall, this book did not work for me. I did not like the miscommunication; a number of side characters were horrible, and I did not like how Jason was still friends with them and the number of decisions that Fortune makes did not work for me.
I received an advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.
The Accidental Swipe is a delightful exploration of what happens when friends nudge friends to move outside their comfort zones and, through a case of mistaken identity, end up finding possibilities of companionship and love. The novel explores themes of race, plus-size love, and unexpected connections.
I'm excited to see where Y.M. Nelson takes Fortune and Jason. Can the complexities of their relationship and personal growth be stymied or accelerated? Will Fortune be able to triumph over low expectations? Will Jason successfully traverse the minefield of emotions and expectations?
Fortune is a gorgeous plus sized black woman with a successful career, confident in all aspects of her life, apart from her love life. She also needs a date for her friend’s gala. Jason is a hot single white construction company owner who loves a woman with curves. When they meet on a plus sized dating app, sparks and passions fly - could this lead to something special? Jason loves Fortune just as she is, but some body positivity is needed before they get their happy ever afters.
A body positive, confidence boosting heroine is just what is needed, especially in a world that is becoming so focused on a person’s image. Learning to love and accept yourself is as just as important, if not more, as being loved by others.
I wanted to ring Fortune's neck for half of the book but I realize that YM Nelson was trying to show us how in pain and unsure of herself Fortune was. It was part of her growth as a character. I love that Jason loved her for who she was and stuck with her despite poor choices.
A good debut

Fortune Edwards is a plus-sized beautiful woman with a major crush on Graham, the guy who runs her local grocery store. Her gay BFF persuades her to join a body-positive online dating site called SwipeMatch where she thinks she may have matched with Graham, unfortunately her match's profile picture is a group shot and he could be one of two guys. Of course its the other guy.
Jason Reed has no trouble dating, but he just isn't feeling a connection with any of the string of skinny, beautiful women he's hooked up with or been introduced to by friends since his long-term relationship ended. Persuaded to join SwipeMatch by one of his friends he is immediately smitten by Fortune's picture and loves talking to her.
Fortune and Jason really hit it off but she is worried that this is a joke to him, or he'll eventually leave her for someone thinner. On his part, given his track record he doesn't want to lead her on so is unwilling to commit to anything more than the next date.
This didn't really seem to be going anywhere and there was something about the writing style that put me off. I don't know if it was the constant references to Fortune eating cakes or the way in which she seemed both highly confident and lacking in confidence at the same time. Anyway, I gave it a good shot but at nearly halfway through it just wasn't grabbing me.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥
Fortune Edwards led two separate lives. At work and with her friends, she is a no-nonsense -- but benevolent -- boss. She has a great job that she loves and her friend group is full of ride-or-dies. But when it comes to men, she is a mess. Crushing on a grocery store manager, she borders on being a stalker instead of an admirer with the way she docks in between aisles when Graham is around. When she finds him in a group photo on a dating app, she immediately swipes right.
Unfortunately, the profile belongs to Graham's friend Jason Reed instead. The construction manager is looking for long-term, so when his friends egg him on a plus-size dating app, he immediately matches with Fortune. It looks like the app technology is not as great as it markets itself to be: Fortune only wants short-term and assumed he was Graham, and Jason is in search of a happily ever after.
They give it a shot anyway and find themselves more invested in each other than just an accidental swipe.
This was an incredibly cute read. I related so hard with Fortune. I love a strong female lead who may not be perfect in all aspects of her life but find growth as she finds her HEA. Jason complements her in every way, and I love the mutually respectful dynamic they have in addressing their adversities, especially Fortune's challenges as a plus-size woman.
Their chemistry is pretty darn cute. I just wished we got more of that from the get-go, because the start was a little slow. I am giving you fair warning if miscommunication is not your jam, because that is the root and climax of the story. Otherwise, I think this was a super-cute read.
** I am voluntarily reviewing an advance copy of this book. Thank you to Y.M. Nelson, One Creative Summer Press, and NetGalley for providing an ARC. **
REVIEW- ACCIDENTAL SWIPE BY Y.M NELSON
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

When I was reading this book, I read an article about rom-com(movies) protagonists that needed therapy instead of Love as an everlasting solution. This was what the FMC needed, she needed therapy to solve all her problems. She was insecure of her weight(plus-size) and her skin color(black). Everytime someone did something bad or was rude to her, it was because she was a fat, black woman(her words). In addition to this, everyone that was rude to her was thin, white and hot, so go figure. She also attached her self worth to what men thought of her, whether she was attractive to them or not. And with all this, she didn't admit that she had self esteem issues and love solved all her problems.

I was thoroughly annoyed with the FMC through out the book and it set the tone for the book. Although, I liked the MMC, he was the best part of the book, i'd have preferred only his POV.

I didn't like this book
Fortune meets Jason on a plus size dating app. She just wants a date for a gala but he is looking for long term, Will this and other misunderstandings get in their way of a HEA?
A great read, looking forward to more books from this author.
Forty-something dating...
Fortune is plus sized, but has a head trip about how people see her.
Jason is a serial first dater, one and done.
An accidental swipe maybe gives them a chance to get out of their heads.
I really liked that they were normal aged and only slightly damaged.
This book was so good! I loved the female main character and the premise of this book. I’m so happy I’m no longer in the dating scene, although this book did bring back some fun memories. I thought the writing of the book was very good, the characters were likable, and the ending was perfect.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
easily could have finished this book in a day but I didn’t lol
You’re typical girl damaged by the way men have treated her in the past. But it only takes one man to change your perspective on love right? Or does it take multiple chances with one man to change your outlook on love?
Jason isn’t your average man and Fortune isn’t your typical girl. She’s blinded by other peoples opinions of herself, which isn’t fair. But in todays world, it’s common. Jason will take down her walls and make her fall in love with a white man built like a lumberjack, after he beats up his friends for her. Because of her.
The ending, well it’s perfect and how he shows her he loves her, melted my heart! Everyone deserves a Jason!
I loved ot. I loved everything about this. The plus sized heroine, the older lovers crowd, and some spice! Yes yes and yes please! I loved every page of this!
I just reviewed The Accidental Swipe by Y. M. Nelson. #TheAccidentalSwipe #NetGalley

While technically this could be categorized as a rom com and it is a fun read with vibrant characters and humorous interactions, it is really more of a women's fiction as the underlying message has more depth than a traditional rom com. We all have things about us that we aren't comfortable with and there has been something about us that someone at some point has made fun of us about making us even more insecure about that issue. This book really drives home the point that you need to love yourself, let go of past hurts and not paint everyone you meet with the same distrustful brush as not everyone is out to make you feel less than. It also does a wonderful job of pointing out that what you imagine people are like and what they are really like are two different things, so you need to get to know them in order to figure out what type of person they are before deciding to let them in your circle or cutting them out. This wasn't the book that I thought I was picking up, but I must say that it was a deeper and more interesting read than I was expecting. I'm intrigued to see what else this author has written as this is a new to me author that I would like to explore even more!
First thought: I love the idea of a book about a plus size beauty trying her luck at online dating, I can relate. It’s a cute read.
Meet Fortune she is a curvy goddess who needs a date to her best friends charity gala in 8 weeks. She is a success at work but not at love so her friend convinced her to try a new dating app geared to plus size beauties. She loves all things 80s, any sweet treat, all types of moscato and is a total tv nerd. Fortune has so much to offer but she needs to learn to stop sabotaging herself. She has serious bad luck when it comes to guys and it has left her with doubts that can ruin all chances of real romance.
Then you have Jason he owns his own construction company and wants nothing more than to find his future wife, he’s sick of the Barbie dolls his friends recommend. He can’t find a real connection with anyone, so with a dare from his friend he tries online dating. He swiped right on an adorable curly girl and after witty banter and the best first date ever he is full on smitten. But past relationship issues are messing with his head so he isn’t going all in and it may be his biggest mistake.
Will Fortune and Jason be the next romance or was this online dating another to add to both their lists of failed loved attempts.
This is just a cute summer read it has a little spice, some drama, a lot of witty banter and it told in dual perspective. I’m not sure what I was looking for but it was missing something to make me love it but it was a fun, fast read.
This is such a great story about finding love unexpectedly. The two main characters in this are both older and more experienced so they both go into their first date with a lot of baggage.
I really liked the dynamic between the two main characters. They were both very strong -minded individuals and had both experienced heartbreak in their past.
Fortune the female main character is a plus size woman and is used to men using her for sex or just to find out what being with a curvy girl was like.
Jason, the love interest hasn't had a successful relationship since his failed long-term relationship and it's just going from first date to first date.
As the two of them connect he is very protective of her but also lets her fight her own battles and speak her mind.
The dynamic between these two is very sweet and very respecting of the other. I really enjoyed this book and I'm excited that there is going to be a book two.
Plus-sized Fortune is a boss. Except in her love life. Her best friend suggests she use the body-positive dating app SwipeMatch to find an escort for his charity gala, she reluctantly agrees. When Fortune swipes right on a profile with a group photo and the profile belongs to construction manager–and hottie–Jason. Could he be the perfect gala escort? Or is he like every other guy she’s dated–ashamed to be seen with her?
Jason goes through first dates like water, dating an endless string of women since his last failed long-term relationship. How can he manage a team of rowdy construction workers but can’t find the right woman? To stop his “emo” ranting, his friends dare him to find, match, and date a woman off some plus-size dating app. When he finds Fortune, he thinks he’s won the dare and maybe won at love. But she’s hung up on some ball, and he’s thinking long-term.
If Fortune doesn’t raise her “low expectations” of men, and Jason can’t overcome past hurts and caution, they may lose a chance at a real connection.
This story was cute and relatable for me. As I am trekking through the online dating scene, I can actually empathize! This was a great body-positive story with a happy ending. I enjoyed the main characters, as well as the secondary characters. It was a quick and cute read. Perfect for the beach this summer!
The accidental swipe is a cute romantic comedy about Fortune, a plus size black woman, and Jason, a white man who looks like a lumberjack. Fortune thinks she is swiping right on her crush from the grocery store, but in reality it’s his friend Jason.
I can relate to Fortune’s insecurities about how others perceive her and her body. At times it was heartbreaking to read about because we all have those feelings! I enjoyed the dates Fortune and Jason had, the banter between them! I give this story 3.5 stars!
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
