I was really excited to read this book about prayer. The more I read, the more I felt like the author was saying G0d will only hear your prayers if you do the things listed in the book and avoid the barriers to effective prayers, which is works based faith. However, I tried to look at it more like, "if you incorporate these practices into your life to be more like Christ, your prayers will naturally be more aligned to His will."

Overall, it was a pretty good book, but again, I want to be careful to avoid thinking of the spiritual practices listed in the book as items to check-off on a to-do list.

This is a detailed book on prayer by Joyce Meyer. Written in a conversational and easy to follow style, Joyce Meyer teaches us the way to communicate with God in effective and efficient ways. She elaborates on the factors that makes a fervent prayer life like boldness, faith and a soft heart. She also shares barriers to effective prayers like doubt, feat, sin and distraction.
One of my favourite quotes from the book is this- "to pray powerful prayers, we need to pray boldly, meaning confidently and without fear or reservation".
Thank you FaithWords for sending me this book.

I have read many books on prayer and most have given techniques for an effective prayer life. Meyer's book is a little different in that she encourages us to be our unique selves in relationship with God. We have different personalities and experiences and will relate to God in unique ways. Yes, there are some general principles of prayer that apply to everyone but God wants a personal relationship and will lead each of us individually.

I really like her encouragement to approach God in our own way. Our prayers will not necessarily be like those of other people. We are to follow the leading of the Spirit, not man made rules. We pray as God directs, developing a friendship with Him. Be honest. Don't be fearful of not praying correctly.

Meyer does give general principles for approaching God, like the attitudes of love, forgiveness, humility, gratitude, compassion and persistence. She also addresses possible barriers to effective prayer, such as sin. The only barrier I didn't like was speaking negative words. I believe God is greater than being bound by my doubtful words. Meyer encourages us to be honest with God and for me, that may include voicing my negative feelings.

This is a book for Christians who have not had good experiences with prayer because they have felt bound by prescribed rules of prayer. Meyer frees us to be honest with God, communicating to Him in our own way as we develop our friendship with Him.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

What an awesome book! This is something I have needed, so I am very happy Joyce Meyer has written this. This is a book of prayer. Right from the beginning, the scripture she uses is where the disciples ask Jesus to teach them to pray. We always concentrate on prayer, but this is personal. We need to be asking: teach ME to pray. What an eye opener! And this is personal. We all have different ways we pray. And then, is Jesus your friend? If He is, then this prayer journey is two-way. This is just the tip of the iceberg. How is our prayer life? This has definitely changed mine! Hope it changes yours, too. A definite must read!

Another fine example from Joyce Meyer of being one with God our creator. In today's hectic world are you keeping true to your word? Do you create a world in which you're simply co-existing or are you there to make sure you're helping your fellow brother or sister?
There's many ways to thank God for his work. You can begin by asking God for his love. Try keeping your prayers concise and concrete. Don't matter if it's perfect. Non of us are as we all cast sins.
What we can do is improvise. Start fresh. Start new. Use what we have to build upon and use the stones cast at us to rectify our own lives.
It's not about moving ahead but about forgiving those who did you wrong.
God sees and god will protect you from harm as long as you stand in blind faith.
Even when things seem as though there's not a way. God will find a way and pull you through.
The power of Joyce Meyer is simply unmatched and for that we must be grateful.
Thank you for another wonderful masterpiece of insight and love.

I have always felt that every book I ever read by Joyce Meyer was beneficial to me in some way. When I saw this title, I thought to myself that I already know how to pray, so why read this? Believe me when I say that there were many points that were helpful to me, and I truly feel this is another inspiring book by Joyce.

Joyce mentions things that I've wondered about in the past such as: is it best to pray when kneeling? and shouldn't I allow myself a long period of time to pray? She also reinforced things I already knew, and brought other things to mind AGAIN, because sometimes in life we forget things that are important.

Even if you think you don't really need a book about prayer, you might you'd benefit from this one.

How to Talk With God is a little book with a big message. It reveals, with clarity, the essence, truth, and effectiveness of our prayer time with God.

I remember when I was young, I told my mother that I didn’t really know how to pray “right.” She gently planted a seed in me that day by telling me that praying is simply talking to God. Her advice is similar to what Joyce Meyer shares in this book.

Alongside Biblical principles, this book helps you to build your prayer life and your relationship with God. This is one of those books you’ll want to buy two of—one to give to a friend, and one to keep for yourself.

First Line: I think most people would agree that effectiveness is important in prayer.
