I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I would definitely say that romance felt more like a subplot here, which I was not expecting, but despite that the actual plot was wonderful and I did not find myself missing that romance element most of the time. I will definitely be picking up book 2, especially will the way that this book ends (iykyk). Would recommend!

Dive into the world of "Wolf God, Ruthless Gods: Wolf God #1" by Veronica Douglas, and you'll find yourself swept away by a tale that's both thrilling and tantalizing. This book is a delightful blend of dark fantasy and romance, where the lines between enemies and lovers blur, and the path to redemption is fraught with danger and desire.

The story introduces us to Samantha, a werewolf who's been marked by the Dark Wolf God, Cadean. When a war with the fae threatens his realm, Cadean claims Samantha, believing she holds the key to his salvation. But can a monster be redeemed? Can an enemy become a lover? These are the questions that pulse at the heart of this slow-burn romantasy.

The world-building in "Wolf God" is rich and imaginative, with a setting that combines the mythical with the modern. The Dreamlands, where the Wolf God is imprisoned, is a place of magic and mystery, and Veronica Douglas paints it with vivid detail. It's a world you can lose yourself in, filled with intrigue, conflict, and a romance that sizzles with tension.

Samantha's character is a blend of strength, compassion, and complexity. Her journey from disbelief to acceptance, from captive to potential savior, is compelling. Her relationship with Cadean is a dance of attraction and resistance, love and hate. Their chemistry leaps off the page, and their miscommunication adds a layer of frustration that keeps you rooting for them to find common ground.

Cadean, the Wolf God, is a character of depth and contradiction. Feared and revered, he's a villain with nuance, a beast with a soft side. His struggle with his dark nature, his longing for redemption, and his connection with Samantha make him a character you can't help but be drawn to.

But it's not all smooth sailing. Samantha's fluctuating feelings can feel a bit inconsistent at times, and her judgment of Cadean sometimes comes across as morally superior. These minor critiques, however, don't detract from the overall enjoyment of the story.

The plot unfolds with a pace that keeps you engaged, building to a climax that leaves you hungry for more. The conflict with the fae is well-crafted, and the introduction of new characters adds layers to the story. The mild cliffhanger at the end ensures that you'll be eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

"Wolf God" is a book that offers a feast for fans of paranormal romance. It's a story of monsters and magic, love and war, redemption and revelation. Veronica Douglas has crafted a tale that's both well-written and complete, filled with characters that resonate and a world that enchants.

If you're a fan of alpha heroes with dark souls, tortured pasts, and an obsession with the women who could bring them to their knees, "Wolf God" is a book you'll want to sink your teeth into. It's one of the best enemies-to-lovers stories I've read, filled with tension, growth, and a connection that's undeniable.

This is a first in a series and really ramps up at the end. I loved the slow build of the main female character and learning about the Wolf God through both her point of view and his. This book will make you want to continue reading right into the next book!

Samantha is a werewolf just making her way through the world. Life is tough for her, especially when she returns home to rescue her mother who is dying of a mystery illness. She has helped save the world from the wolf god but she always feels like someone is watching her from the shadows, and someone is. When a Fae asks for her assistance to kill the wolf god once and for all, Samantha is puzzled on why she is singled out and not someone with magic. However, the wolf god sends his messenger and kidnaps Samantha before she can agree to the Fae.

Cadean is the wolf god. The god of shadows and only Samantha has ever harmed him. He and his advisors are also sure that Samantha is key to healing him. She is the only one who can wield the moon goddesses' power that confines him to his lands. The fae are taking his land and draining his power. He must be healed immediately to stop the fae advancing and killing his people. However, Samantha sees Cadean as a monster and won't heal him.

Will Cadean be able to force Samantha to see that is the fae, and not him, who are the bad people in dreamland? Will Samantha discover her powers and use them to heal Cadean before it is too late? Will Samantha escape from Cadean or will she be his prisoner forever?

The tension was amazing! It was leaping off the page! I was just yelling 'do it do it do it', but they never did! I really enjoyed the give and take between Samantha and Cadean. Even though there was no real spice I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Big thanks to Netgalley, Magic Side Press and Virginia Douglas for this early release copy.

1 out of 5⭐ for the usage of an unnecessary antisemitic trope (the age-old goblin caricature), poor editing in tracking body movement during dialogue scenes, and the anti-indigenous/anti-Landback Movement themes in the novel.

The story centers around a werewolf bartender, Samantha, who joined her pack in the efforts to shove the Dark Wolf God back into his prison that the Moon Goddess created for him a millenia ago only to be trapped by the Wolf God himself on her way to the fae lands to assist them in their fight against him; the Dark Wolf God gives her a deal: heal the grievous injury she caused him when his prison was resealed and he will (probably) release her.

We're offered three conflicting narrative perspectives to wrestle with while reading: Samantha is convinced that the Wolf God is evil incarnate because of the destruction he carved into her home, Magic Side, when he escaped his prison; the Dark Wolf God is simply an entity who has been forced to engage in limited offensive defense against The Undying Fae as they colonize his lands and murder his subjects while his prison incrementally reduces in size leaving more and more land and subjects of his exposed to fae attacks without the ability to protect them; and The Undying Fae are actually the victims of unjust attacks by the Wolf God, and he is lying to Samantha. Samantha eventually comes to the decision that The Undying Fae are the villains, for the most part, in this situation, but her bias against the Dark Wolf God for his actions in Magic Side, her bitterness at being held captive by him (for all intents and purposes, she's got it pretty good as a prisoner; she's getting the royal treatment), and her own bias as a settler-colonizer living on the many indigenous peoples' territory of the Chicago area that Magic Side is a part of prevent her from utilizing any critical thinking about what she's been taught (the history of the Moon Goddess and the Dark Wolf God) or the violence enacted upon her by unseen enemies or the violence that ensues in response to continued attacks on the Wolf God's subjects in her presence.

Her perspective completely defies the generally accepted concept in mythology, sociology, and historiography that gods are not to be held to mortal standards of ethics and morality--even when one of the said gods is actually real and is more akin to Otherworldly Kings than a being worshiped at alters. I do not find Samantha's initial outrage to be irrational; there is a lot of grief to be had in the destruction of Magic Side, and within the novel, we are not given much context on what has happened (it's an event that happened in a previous series that this novel is connected to). Her continued outrage even makes sense to a degree, because grieving is a complicated process; I just find her outlook to be shortsighted in the grand scheme of things of which she becomes increasingly privy to as the novel goes on.

The romance was an uncomfortable read because of what felt like a failed attempt at a werewolf adaptation of Beauty and the Beast tropes mixed with a dubious consent combo of the now-standard-in-werewolf-romances mate bond and captor/captive dynamic. The authors did their best to reduce whatever uneven power dynamics were at play through BatB-esque plot devices, but the follow through left much to be desired. There was too many uneven power dynamics and cultural misunderstandings for the authors to try to smooth over, and I was left feeling disturbed after finishing the book and reflecting on it more.

I don't recommend the novel to anyone, and I will only be reading the second novel to boost my feedback ratio on NetGalley.

I want to thank Veronica Douglas,Magic Side Press, LLC and netgalley for this ARC. this is my honest opinion after reading this book

A very well-written and complete first volume! The story starts right from the beginning with lots of action and questions!

I really liked the main character, Samantha, she's a great character, she never loses sight of her goal despite the obstacles in her way. I also loved her compassion, bravery and humor. The author has really created a complex character who evolves over the course of the story.

Cadean, ah my dear Cadean. I loved that he was the first to feel, the "villain" of the story, but with a lot of nuance. I can't wait to see how he develops and learn more about him.

The author takes us into a very magical universe with lots of rules and myths that aren't entirely true after all.

I really enjoyed the story, the duality between the two characters and the relationships that develop with the rest of Cadean's closed circle.

With this ending, I'm going to start reading Volume 2 straight away!

Thank you to Veronica Douglas, publishers, and NetGalley for the ARC of Wolf God. These opinions are entirely my own based on my own reading experience.

The setting of this book was great! I am typically not a huge fan of modern or contemporary paranormal romances but this one was fantasy enough that it kept me interested. I liked the idea of the dreamlands being a prison for the Wolf God. I liked that there was a mythical setting coupled with some modern technology. The Dreamlands was well detailed, creative, and easy to imagine.

Our main FMC, Samantha is a werewolf/shifter with no magic who gets kidnapped by the Wolf God and must navigate a difficult task of healing him. For the most part, I liked Samantha's character, my only com[aint is that she was at times extremely wishy washy with her feelings and actions. Seh would hate the Wolf God and actively work against him while simultaneously drooling over him. I wish we saw more of a progression of her hate turning into love instead of love-hate-love-hate-love-hate. I also found her to be a bit morally insufferable with her judgement and superiority complex of the Wolf God. Overall, I did like her character growth and I could relate to her struggles in the new realm.

Our MMC, Caedan the Wolf God was pretty badass. He was interesting, dynamic and obviously torn between his good nature and dark side. He is feared, revered to the extent that Samantha has nothing but myths and lies to go off of when she meets him. He is rough and gruff but I liked that you see his softer, more caring nature.

The story started a bit slow but picked up pace and got more addicting as the novel went on. I liked the conflict with the Fae and thought that was believable and well fleshed out. I was interested to see where the story was going and looking forward to picking up the next book. Overall I thought Veronica Douglas did a great job writing a tantalizing, captivating paranormal romance.

Filled with an irresistible blend of action, enigma, and tension, "Wolf God" draws readers into a mesmerizing world. Samantha, a character who once stood in the wings during the conflict against the Dark Wolf in "Wolf Bound," now takes center stage, entwining her fate with challenges of a perilous and mystifying nature. The narrative pulses with an invigorating current as the saga continues, with the wounded and ensnared Dark Wolf searching for an escape, healing, and vengeance. Samantha emerges as a force to be reckoned with, her character a symphony of ferocity, unwavering resolve, latent potency, and enigmatic allure.

The enigmatic Cadean's emotional landscape evokes a rollercoaster of sentiments. His internal struggle, marked by self-doubt and an unsettling rapport with his own emotions, intertwines with his pursuit of desires, painting a complex portrait that tugs at readers' empathy. The scars of the shifter-Fae war have indelibly marked him, casting a somber shadow over his journey.

The narrative takes a thrilling turn, weaving an intricate tapestry of excitement, drama, and risk. The author masterfully sustains a web of suspense, keeping readers engrossed in the narrative's artful dance of tension and revelation. As Auren steps onto the scene, curiosity blooms—friend or foe, their role in the unfolding narrative a tantalizing question.

"Wolf God" leaves readers ravenous for the sequel, the unresolved mysteries and evolving dynamics acting as a siren's call. With an ingenious narrative and an enthralling grasp on suspense, Veronica Douglas captivates her audience and leaves them yearning for the next chapter in this enthralling saga.

Prepare to be swept away by the tension-filled romance and fantasy adventure in "Wolf God." Veronica Douglas delivers a thrilling enemies-to-lovers tale that will leave you begging for more.

The heart of the story revolves around Cadean and Samantha, two characters whose stark differences create sparks of conflict and desire. Cadean, the Dark Wolf God, is both a force of destruction and protection, a complex character locked away by the Moon Goddess. Samantha, a wolf-shifter, becomes entangled in Cadean's world when she falls victim to his unleashed fury during a brief escape. As their paths intertwine, Samantha discovers hidden truths about herself, leading her to struggle with her newfound identity. The clash of their beliefs and desires sets the stage for a tumultuous journey of self-discovery and passion.

The author skillfully crafts a narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The palpable tension between Cadean and Samantha is electric, and their push-and-pull dynamic creates an intense emotional rollercoaster.

This is book 1 of 3 in this series and is a slow burn romance.

Thank you for the ARC from Netgalley and Veronica Douglas. I truly enjoyed reading this book.

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for an opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this arc. 🖤

I wanted to start by talking about the FMC… I really wasn’t a fan of her! 🙈 I really don’t like it when something is obvious and the character just act’s oblivious! And this happened multiple times throughout the book.

What I will say though, is other than the FMC, I liked this book. The plot was interesting the mmc I liked and the tension between the two was good. This is an enemies to lovers with forced proximity which is my absolute favourite! So obviously that was a win for me 😂 and the whole concept of the dreamlands drew me in and was gripping. I just wish the FMC wasn’t so clueless and naive. 🙈

Overall, I would recommend this book to you all. It was an interesting and unique read! 🖤

This is one of the best slow burns I've read in a long time. I spent the whole book wishing and praying that Sam and Cadean would just figure out how to see eye to eye because seriously, their chemistry is palpable and it's obvious to us and Mel and everyone else that they belong together if only they can hash everything out and settle their differences. But then, here's how I know it's good writing: I'm feeling the same way Sam is. Like, this is a god who attacked her home and nearly killed her. It's more than holding onto a silly grudge. It was actually a life or death situation. How is she supposed to marry that to the kind and caring protector she's seen since her capture? Then Cadean's insecurities and self-loathing doesn't help his case because all he does is insist that Sam is right about him being a monster. And I get it because he is, but it also he isn't?? Man, the internal conflict is just agonizing in the absolute best way. And the side characters are really well developed, too. I spent the whole book since Auren was introduced yelling at Sam that he's bad news and can't be trusted, but of course she didn't listen. Sigh. I'm going to absolutely barrel through this series, I just know it.

I want to thank NetGalley and Magic Side Press for an ARC of this book.

I haven't read a lot of shifter fantasy romance books and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this. Even though it did suffer from the miscommunication trope, I did understand it. Samantha is a very stubborn, narrow minded person. I really did not like being in her perspective, so it would make sense as to why it was difficult for her and Cadean to communicate properly. I did enjoy the romance, the tension that comes with enemies to lovers is always so amazing.

As for the plot, I enjoyed how fast pace it all felt. Something was going on in every page, making me super intrigued and engaged with the story. I thought the concept was entertaining and original, I liked the lore and the worldbuilding as well. I just found it very difficult to be in Samantha's POV, a lot of her decisions and thought process was frustrating to read through. I'm not sure if it was intentional for the story but it did make me want to root for Cadean to be with anyone else.

Overall I would recommend it! 3.8/5 stars for me!

Thanks again to NetGalley and Magic Side Press for an ARC of this book. I will be posting my review on Goodreads!

This was a fast paced slow burn. I enjoyed it. The action and plot arc were good with a good dose of a cliffhanger at the end, just enough to ask what happens next?
The characters were enjoyable and there was a nice mix of magic and paranormal.
Overall and enjoyable read.

This book surprised me by a decent amount. I was expecting a classic enemies to lovers and were a dark god with questionable morals encounters a helpless heroine who finds her immense power.

While those things did happen…there were several twists in this story that make it truly unique and worth reading. If you like REALLY slow burns ( like you gotta get through multiple books), enemies to lovers, and supernatural elements/realms this author does a pretty good job here!

Only suggestion I had is that the ending gets a bit muddled with all the action and it’s more like you’re just watching the main character and no understanding the purpose or her motivation behind her actions.

This was a netgalley ARC, thank you to the author!

I really enjoyed this book and think it could be a compelling series. I felt like the enemies to lovers slow burn was both appropriately paced and also excruciatingly slow (it wasn't really slow I just have no chill). The tension here was pretty good and felt like a natural progression for the characters .

I'm not in love with the FMC because she makes questionable choices BUT if she grows out of that in the upcoming book I'll stick with it. There's a lot of unknowns in this book but also enough information was discovered to be intriguing. The side characters were really great too, Overall an interesting world.

Although the story felt familiar I still felt a connection to the characters and the story and can't wait for the next book.

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you Netgalley for giving me a chance to read and review Wolf God by Veronica Douglas.

I'm rating this a 3.5

I enjoyed reading this story. I especially loved the mfc. She's strong and resilient. I loved the mmc and could feel his emotions. The story got pretty good towards the end and I can't wait to see what comes next.

There were a few parts of the book I thought dragged a bit and were repetitive. I hope the side characters get a little more development in the second book. I'm also hoping for more banter and spice.

After her home is almost destroyed, wolf shifter, Samantha, is captured by the very Dark Wolf God who nearly killed her weeks earlier.

While she is a prisoner in his land, she earns small freedoms by trying to help him heal from the curse she inadvertently put on him. While she hates him for all he’s done, she is also drawn to him and begins to see him for more than just the monster she thought of him.

I enjoyed this book while reading it. Do I love a book with a person on the cover? No. But do I also know not to judge a book by its cover, I guess so. I would say that the magic systems and world-building aren't fully fleshed out, but it does have a quick-moving plot for an easy read. This is definitely a slow burn, he falls first, enemies to lovers, with a strong FMC. There's some betrayal at the end and it does leave off on a cliffhanger.

Overall, I enjoyed Samantha and Cadean’s story and I think book 2 will bring the 🌶️ (when that slow burn finally burns - HOPEFULLY).
