Between the multiple POVs, family drama, and suspenseful atmosphere, "The Inheritance" was a rollercoaster of a read! Once I thought I had it all figured out, another element was thrown in to completely change all the evidence I thought I had. The flashback part was a great element in adding to character and plot development and I love the setting. I stayed up all night to finish reading this one and have absolutely zero regrets about it! I was blown away by the ending. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC opportunity!

The Hunter family have been living a secret for decades and everything is going to come out in the open once everyone finds out what was written in the will.

This book was so much different that I thought it was going to be. This book really focuses on family drama and how secrets can ruin a picture perfect look of a family. It actually was a pleasant surprise and I enjoyed this book. The book ends on a cliffhanger and there's no sequel... not fair.. I have so many questions.

Thank you to Netgalley, Samantha Hayes, and the publishers for this free ebook. This review is 100% my own and honest opinion.

I really enjoyed this one as it had a lot of different plot elements without being too much. Characters were great and the overall storyline really kept my interest. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Thriller queen Samantha Hayes is back with another nail-biting read that will chill you to the bone: The Inheritance.

The death of her beloved husband Ray has naturally hit his wife Connie and their three daughters hard. As they grieve the loss of this much-loved member of their family, Connie and her girls head off to their holiday home in Scotland to take some time to be together during this most challenging and difficult time for all of them. However, Connie knows that she must be straight with her daughters and deliver some shocking home truths about the man they just buried and their remote Scottish home, surrounded by miles and miles of woods and forests, is the perfect place to reveal the secrets and lies she has been hiding for years.

Connie has come to Scotland to tell her girls the truth about what she had done in the past. Every decision she has taken and every choice she has made has been to protect her girls and Connie hopes that they will able to understand the reason why she acted as she did in the past. While she might be fully aware that things for her family will change forever, Connie never imagined that this trip to Scotland would have shocking repercussions that would end up putting them all in acute danger.

Can Connie survive this trip? Or will her house in Scotland end up being the last place she will ever see?

Samantha Hayes’ The Inheritance is a dark tale brimming with atmosphere and foreboding that brilliantly explores the complexities of family ties, the burdens secrets impose upon us and the lengths we go to protect those we love. A first-class thriller that will keep you engrossed all through the night, Samantha Hayes’ The Inheritance will go down a treat with B A Paris and Lisa Jewell fans – don’t miss it!

Another good book by Samantha Hayes, not my favourite but still an enjoyable read, it took me longer to read than other ones but once I got into the plot I did enjoy it, secrets and lies, tangled plots and family issues. Definitely worth a read.

Another good read by the author. It was quite a claustrophic feel given the fact it happens in a remote and contained location. It's pretty gripping and has some very nice twists.

Unfortunately, I really couldn't get into this book. The premise sounded intriguing but it the writing slumped after the first quarter.

I wanted to like this read more than I did. 😑 there was too much bouncing back and forth between character’s, who were also not all the we developed. It just fell a bit flat for me, she has far better reads.

I always enjoy Sam Hayes books and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. We meet up with the Hunter family. Ray, the father, has recently died and Connie, the mother, has invited her three daughter and families to the family holiday home in Ayrshire. The reason behind this is that there are hidden secrets that Connie is going to have to reveal when she discloses the contents of their father’s will. One of the daughters is not included in the will but will these secrets destroy their lives. Kate is married to Adrian and is mother to twins. Her marriage is rocky as Adrian has become very secretive and she suspects that he is having an affair. Darby, whose first husband died in a tragic accident, remarried and has a teenage stepson but is still grieving for her first husband, Bea, the youngest daughter, is struggling with her current situation. She has split up from her boyfriend after telling him that she was pregnant. We realise that they all have their own secrets. This was a gripping, emotional read and full of family drama, red herrings and so many twists and turns. A must read!
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book,

Omg I am speechless I cannot believe how many lies were told! The twists blew me away and the characters are so deceptive that you can trust no one.

Where there’s a written will, there’s a divided family. The same can be said for the Hunter family.

In “The Inheritance,” Ray, the patriarch dies, leaving a grieving widow to pick up the pieces. Connie, the widow, decides to have a family reunion so the family may spend time together and read the will.

Family disagreements, particularly about money, tend to bring out the worst in people, and the Hunter family is no exception. Samantha Hayes does an excellent job of bringing that intense atmosphere to life.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to review this one.

This was my first read from Samantha Hayes and it won’t be my last!

A family grieving the recent death of their patriarch, get together at their family home in Scotland. It’s supposed to be a time for everyone to spend together and heal, but there’s a secret that’s been buried for decades, and it doesn’t want to stay buried anymore.

I loved the multiple POVs, the red herrings, and the big plot twist at the end. My only wish was that the ending had more of an explanation so it would feel more wrapped up than the abrupt ending we received. Which is a good thing because it meant I wanted more!

I definitely recommend this to those a fan of Lisa Jewell and Frieda McFadden.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this free copy of The Inheritance. All opinions are my own.

I wish I loved this book but unfortunately this felt so flat for me. It took me a total of 5 months to read this because I didn't feel excited about reading this. This was not a thriller I enjoyed and one of my goals for 2024 is being super honest in my reviews regarding how I felt. I guessed many of the plot twists and the ending did not make any sense. I feel like the author just gave up at some point because nothing about this book was the thriller I was expecting. This was slow, had unreliable characters (not uncommon for thrillers), and insane repetitions. I would've rated this a lot higher if the whole Kate/Lily mess made any sense. I hated that part and I hated how it just created new confusions and doing that towards the ending was annoying. I think I've read a book by this author before and I enjoyed it but this was not one I liked.

This was a good psychological thriller type read… all about a family holiday in Scotland where dark secrets from the past were revealed. The story did appeal to me but I did find it rather slow in parts and it didn’t excite me as much as I had hoped. It was also a bit confusing and complicated especially nearer the end . There is a brilliant twist though and then a further one which was very chilling.

After the death of her husband, Connie gathers her family for the reading of his will, hoping to reconnect with them. However, she is taken aback when she discovers that her late husband has revealed a shocking secret from her past that could potentially damage her relationships with her three daughters and their families. As the truth comes to light, the family must navigate through uncertain territory and confront their own secrets. This gripping tale is one not to be missed.

I've read other books by Samantha but found this a little disturbing at times
It was well written and a good plot, but something I just didn't like.

I am already a fan of this author. This book was no different. I loved the atmosphere . But unfortunately it lost a star due to towards the end there was too much going on and and it was a bit unrealistic.
