This book took me a little while to get into as timelines went back and forth, but in honesty it could be because the heat has me unable to sleep so my brain isn't working! Once I established who each character was and their relationship the rest of the book sped by. The characters were easy to like and their sibling interactions seemed real. There were enough twists that though I guessed partly right, I didn't see the ending coming!!
The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes is an unputdownable psychological thriller that grips readers from the very first page. The story follows a woman whose carefully guarded secrets are exposed in her husband's will, putting her family in danger.
Hayes skilfully builds suspense as the protagonist grapples with the shocking revelations and the fear that someone is willing to kill to protect their own secrets. The tension intensifies as family dynamics unravel and emotions run high, leading to a captivating and unpredictable climax.
The author's writing is atmospheric and gripping, creating a sense of unease that keeps readers on edge. The characters are complex and flawed, adding depth to the narrative. Hayes weaves a web of deceit, lies, and buried truths, unravelling the intricate connections between the characters.
The Inheritance is a gripping thriller with a shocking twist that will keep readers guessing until the final pages. With its well-paced plot, compelling characters, and a sense of impending danger, Samantha Hayes delivers a suspenseful and satisfying read for fans of the genre.
This book started off at such a slow pace. Actually I think if I wasn't reviewing it I might have given up on it. So stick with it if you are feeling the same as it does get so much more Interesting and ended up being a good read after all. Each chapter is a different person
Which makes or easy to follow the story. So much going on it is very indepth and reveals a lot.
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

This is the story of a family who has just lost their father. A family who’s many secrets threaten to be the undoing of them all. Kate, Darby and Bea are the Hunter girls and they have always been close and protective of one another. Their father, Ray, has just died and their mother, Connie has asked the girls and their families to join her at their holiday home in Scotland. Once there, secrets are finally revealed and nothing will ever be the same again.
PROS and CONS:
I really wanted to love this one - a controversial inheritance? A death in the loch? A family at odds with one another? All sounded good to me. But unfortunately, I found the transition between chapters to be quite abrupt and the character development and some of the motives to be a little unbelievable. There were a few twists at the end that were quite good, but at the last one, I did raise my eyebrow a bit, not understanding how it could happen.

If you’re looking for…a quick, twisty read - then this one’s for you!

This was the first time reading a book by Samantha Hayes, and I'll definitely be reading more! Family dramas, twists and turns and a secret that has been kept for years.
Synopsis
Connie Hunter has invited all her family up to Scotland, getting everyone together for the first time since her husband's funeral. But her real reason for inviting them was to get everyone together and tell them about their fathers will.
As the family dramas play out, there's varying suspicions, and lot of secrets. Seemingly everyone has their own secret to hide, and once secrets come out - it's a ticking time bomb waiting for the consequences.
Thoughts
The majority of the book is domestic drama with suspicions and secrets - told through the POV of each family member. The last 80% is when it really gets into the thrilling part, tying everyone's suspicions together and secrets that get put out into the open... and there is a huge twist at the end that had my jaw dropping!
I really enjoyed the differences and personalities between the characters, some I really liked and some.. not so much. I enjoyed trying to figure out who was hiding what secret and it being told through each individuals POV.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this copy. This review is voluntary.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an eARC of “The Inheritance” in exchange for a review. This domestic drama was very compelling. I couldn’t figure out who was telling the truth. The Hunter family was an enigma that I needed to crack. I loved how each chapter was a different family member’s POV. I couldn’t put it down! The ending was so shocking and I definitely didn’t see the twist coming. 4/5 ⭐️.

“I am terrified. My darkest secret is about to be exposed.
I could never have imagined that one lie would lead to this. Trapped in this house together, emotions spiralling, truths coming out at last. Everything I’ve worked so hard to protect begins to unravel before my eyes…
I have no idea what’s going to happen next, but I’m not sure my family can survive the fallout from all our lies.
And my greatest fear is that someone’s secret is worth killing for…”
I love a good fast paced, domestic drama thriller and this was perfect! All the secrets and lies between the family members kept me hooked throughout and wondering who was telling the truth. There was twist after twist and just as you think you have it figured out you realise you’re completely wrong, which I love, Samantha’s books are never predictable and always leave you shocked.
This was a wild ride with so much drama!!! The Hunter family is shaken to their core after the death of the family’s patriarch unravels a web of secrets. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This plot drew me in from the beginning and although it moved fairly slowly it is packed with twists and turns. It is an easy read and flows well. I’m not sure how believable the plot is but the characters are interesting and the family well described. I would recommend this one
This book was a wild ride. The Hunter family have many secrets between them. Connie Hunter has invited her family to her Scotland home for a holiday. What everyone doesn't know, is that she has gathered her daughters here to give them some unfortunate news considering their father's will. Connie is also hiding a terrifying secret that is eating her alive. Is she brave enough to finally give the big reveal?
80% of this book plays out as a drama. We have three sisters, Kate, Darby and Bea. We also have two of their partners and their children present. It seems almost everyone is hiding a secret. Throughout the book, it's told from multiple points of view which I did enjoy. While waiting for something shocking to happen, it unfortunately didn't happen until much later. I felt it was a little slow for my liking. However, once things kicked up a notch, crazy events continued to unfold. The last 80 pages, I could not put this book down. I did enjoy the final twists.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
A family have got together at the Scottish holiday home a while after the father of the family, Ray, sadly died. The mother Connie is holding a secret about his will and wants everyone to settle in before she breaks the news that she knows won’t go down well. Amongst the family members themselves there are secrets- a potential affair, a pregnancy and one almost homeless. Perhaps they are hoping that their inheritance will set them right however Connie has more to tell than just about the will.
This is one of those reads that grabs you and keeps you turning. Each chapter is headed by a main character to give their point of view so an overall picture is built on. A twisty knotty read where characters may have more than one facet and the actions of one may more than affect another or more. Of secrets and lies, of the ups and downs of family life. If you like a book full of family drama, red herrings and one to keep you guessing then this might just be the read for you. A gamut of emotions with short snappy chapters. One to read and not put down. And wow! Those twists…..

Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.
A great family drama from this author, very different to her previous books but equally as good. It did take me a bit to get into the storyline at the beginning but then it became a fast paced, exciting read full of secrets, a dark twisty read which held my interest after the slow start.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I can thoroughly recommend.
Connie Hunter has gathered her children and their families to impart the news about her late husband's will.
Her marriage was not the easiest and she has a secret that she has been keeping for many years.
Her three daughters each have problems and secrets that they are trying to keep.
I loved this novel, it was a bit slow to begin with, but tension built up during this slow beginning.
Then it became intriguing.
There was a lot of family drama and the twists just kept coming! With a massive twist at the end.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Unfortunately, I found this book to be boring. It's really more of a family drama than a thriller, and the first 80% of the book is full of long, drawn out, mundane family interactions. After that point, the action starts and it becomes interesting, only for the book to end very suddenly with lots of loose ends. I don't understand why the pacing was so slow to the point of tedium for most of the book, but we didn't get to see any of the outcomes from the multiple storylines.
I can't in good conscience recommend this book when the only feelings it invoked in me were boredom and frustration.
What a wild ride! The Inheritance has it all- family drama and secrets that end up revealed in a spectacular way! I read this book in one afternoon- there were so many twists my head was spinning! Absolutely loved the book! Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture ans Samantha Hates for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!,
Give me ALL things Samantha Hayes!!! Twist after twist in this epic thriller!!!
Just when I thought I had family drama, this books steps it up 20 notches. I thought I had it figured out at least 7 times but still never figured it out. Working to bring my jaw up from the floor now!!
I loved the premise but the book didn't deliver imo. It felt a lot more like a chick lit drama than a thriller. I ended up skimming from about 20% in and it just dragged on and on with the most mundane family interactions. I know I said that like it's the worst thing in the world but it's not at all, it's just not got the tension and suspense I'd want from a thriller. Very little had even happened by the 20% mark and it was more just family drama than any kind of shocking mystery to unravel. It is a really well written, complex family drama and for those who enjoy that and the inner dynamics and secrets of large families then this would be perfect. As a thriller though?! Not so much
A family reunion following the death of the Hunter family patriarch brings to light a whole web of secrets that will shake the entire family.
Another Samantha Hayes novel that grabs you from the beginning. The different points of view in which the novel is narrated keep you intrigued and hooked to its pages. There is no shortage of surprises and unexpected twists and turns to leave you wanting more. The characters are well developed and with different personalities that make you sympathize with some and not stand others. The chapters are short and agile and you devour it without realizing it.
Without a doubt it is a family mystery book not to be missed.
Samantha Hayes expertly pulled off another thriller that will keep you guessing the entire book! The first 40% or so she built up so much suspense about this family who came together after their father’s death to the lodge where they grew up. The secrets hidden and shocking plot twists were revealed in perfect timing. There were so many shocking twists that had me gasping until the very end! Amazing!
