The inheritance

Wow! There was a lot to this book. The twists actually twisted. The author fooled me a couple of times, which almost never happens these days.

Truthfully, there was a lot of time at the onset where I almost quit. I thought it would be more family dynamics than domestic thriller, but right when I thought about quitting, I got pulled in by one of the past POVs.

I’m glad I finished.

It’s a 4.3 for me. It would have been a 5, but I think it pirouetted one too many times at the very end, so it lost its 5 status. The very (absolutely last) twist seemed like a tidy up and unnecessary drama. Meh. I could have gone without the last last bit, BUT, before that? Chef’s kiss. I liked it a lot.

This book was another hit from the author. There was a good mixture of mystery and suspense to keep the reader turning the pages to see what happens next. I am giving it a four-star rating rather than five since I found the ending rather ‘flat’.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book. I give this book a solid 4.5. Great story with some unexpected twists! This story follows the Hunter family…matriarch Connie, who is mother to the three Hunter sisters (oldest Kate, middle Darby and youngest Bea). We quickly learn that their father (Ray) has recently died and they’re all getting together at the family’ summer home at Connie’s request. There is some difficult news she has to share with her daughters regarding their father’s will. The families gather for a weeklong visit, not realizing the revelations that are in store for them all. We have typical family issues and dysfunction, to huge, life-altering secrets….and more than one of them holds a secret. Pretty much every member of this family has some sort of secret. The book has a slow build where there is a lot of time spent getting the lay of the land” about each of the members of this family. But once the tension starts building, it’s a nice, steady pace. When we get to the final reveals (there are multiple), most are surprising and satisfying. Lots of mystery to unravel and the author does a great job of hinting, but not giving anything away. A couple of the characters were under-utilized and I underdeveloped, which made them feel like “filler” at times…but it didn’t take away from the story. I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author!

This book started off slow, and I struggled a little to stay interested and keep up with all the characters, but I’m glad I kept reading because this book was a wild ride! I thought I had some things figured out… I was wrong.

Three sisters are called to their mother's house for a family get together. What they don't know is their mother needs to tell them about their inheritance from their father, who recently passed away and not everyone will be happy.

What I enjoyed most about this book was all the secrets. Everyone has a secret and the way they are revealed kept me guessing. I also liked the multiple POV. There are a lot of characters so hearing from multiple POV gave me more insight into the story. The cover is perfect for this book as it gives a hint of something sinister.

Ray Hunter has recently died leaving behind his widow, Connie, and daughters Kate, Darby and Bea. Kate is married to Adrian and mother to twins Finn and Mia. Darby is married to Travis and mother to young Charlie and stepmom to Theo. Bea is married and has just learned that she is pregnant. Now, they have all gathered at the family’s vacation home in Scotland. Ray’s will has been read and what he says will send shockwaves through them all and Connie needs to be able to sit down with her daughters and tell them some secrets she has kept hidden all these years.

There are so many secrets that everyone is carrying in this book which kept me turning the pages. The characters are well-developed and the storyline is so compelling. As we dig deeper into this story, new revelations appear that made me gasp with how incredible it all seems. The way this author managed to weave each of the characters into this mind-blowing story shows a writing talent not seen very often. What a ride this is so enjoy!

You know when you start reading a new book and immediately think ‘oh yes, this is gonna be good!’? Well this was exactly one of those times! I was hooked very early on and found myself so engrossed in the whole Hunter family. There are lots of characters but not too many to keep track of and we get a chance to hear from many of their POVs which alternate through the chapters.

I really loved the development of Theo’s character throughout, along with his father, Travis, who were initially negatively perceived but I definitely warmed to. I also loved the diversity within the characters.

The whole story was a wild ride and completely chaotic but that’s what I loved the most. I did take half a star off (4.5 ⭐️ overall) due to some unbelievable moments that just spoilt it a little for me but overall, a fantastic read and now that I’ve read and loved 2 of this authors books, I will definitely read more of hers in the near future.

A big thanks to Negalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review

Another great book by Samantha Haynes. I love her style of writing. She draws the reader into a rollercoaster of a read and never fails to deliver. The Inheritance is a gripping psychological read of secrets and lies within a family. The characters are absolutely brought to life leading to an explosive twisted ending.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great thrilling page turner

WHAT A PAGE TURNER.

Had plot twists I did not see coming, and loved it!

Really enjoyed the drama and the unravelling of the story. Highly recommend to anyone who is a fan on a decent plot twist!

The Inheritance, by Samantha Hayes

This book does start off slowly, a little too slow for my liking as I did become a bit bored, but then, once the pace picked up, boy did it pick up!

Connie and her three daughters, “The Hunter Girls” all have secrets and once they begin to be revealed, it’s like pushing dominos over and they just keep on dropping, right up to the final twists and then a huge smack in the face, right at the end! WOW 😮

I found the storyline didn’t really flow smoothly, between chapters, it was quite stilted and jumpy. Some of the characters need more development, particularly Theo and Travis, who seem a bit surplus to requirements. The ending left me feeling confused and frustrated - which one was which? I kept thinking back through the final scenes and couldn’t quite work out when/how there was a “switch” - I think I need a diagram, haha!

Overall, an enjoyable and twisty family drama.

I liked the prologue as it really helped grab my attention. At first the many characters introduced so rapidly had me confused on who was who but I love multiple POVs so it worked out beautifully once I caught on a couple of chapters in. I felt as though every single page I read left me with questions and wanting to know more. I appreciate that some of the twists were very shocking while others were very mild and it didn’t feel overdone or like it was too much like some other books have left me feeling. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style and it made for a very easy, very quick read. This book left me staring at my ceiling for an hour afterwards, contemplating life. I couldn’t sleep that night because all I could think about was the ending of this book. This was a 10/10 read.

I have just finished reading The Inheritance by Author Samantha Hayes.

This is the first book that I have read by this Author.

I found this thriller of a book quite engaging, with interesting characters. It had lots of twists and turns.

The family all comes together after the death of the father. Everyone really has something going on in their life.

The mother wants to talk to the family about the will, and the fact that someone has been left out.

Although I did rather enjoy it, I also felt it was quite like a soap opera too, which really did not totally speak to me.

The book will reach out to many however.

My darling husband, Ray, is gone. My three beautiful daughters and I have come to Scotland to walk the trails we once enjoyed together, hold each other, and cry over our loss. But the awful thing is, I feel relieved. Because now Ray is gone, I'm finally safe.... Except for the terrible secret I tried so hard to try and bury - the real reason we're here. I pull one of my daughters aside and tell her the truth. Ray has left her nothing in his will. I see the shock, the pain, the confusion on her face. I am terrified. My darkest secret is about to be exposed.

The Hunter family has more secrets than most, but when Ray passes away, what he leaves behind could destroy the people he loved. Connie, Ray's wife, knows her secret is about to be exposed in Ray's will. It will destroy her family.

The pace is slow to begin with. There's a few twists and turns along the way. This family drama is filled with secrets that are revealed in such a dramatic way. The characters are well developed. This is an addictive read. Not everyone takes their secrets to the grave. Each chapter is told from a different family members perspective.

This was not it. I really hated reading this one but i couldn’t stop but more in a How predictable and bad can this story get? Type of way. There were no plot twists because everything was so heavily handed to you. I guesses everything that happened, not one thing surprised me.
Also the end is super unsatisfying so if you don’t enjoy open endings then don’t read this one.
Otherwise, the writing was fine and the characters weren’t too annoying.

The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes is compulsively addictive and thrillingly satisfying.
This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end.
The descriptions were in great detail and vivid that Hayes left my heart was pounding throughout.
Samantha Hayes latest novel has twists and turns galore. A completely gripping read that I found almost impossible to put down.

HOLY COW. This book had me on the edge of my SEAT at the end of EVERY. SINGLE. CHAPTER. The Hunter Family definitely has a colorful history to say the least and I was shocked by every new revelation. So much has happened to this family. Easily one of the worst holidays.

Samantha Hayes played in to every emotion possible. When you first find out that Connie is having all the girls come to her house because her late husband, Ray, has changed his will, you immediately wonder how bad it could be. What happened to make her feel this overwhelmed about her daughters learning about the contents of the will?

Every single character made me feel multiple different emotions at different times. I was angry, sad, happy, everything you could imagine.

An incredible thriller/mystery read! If you love twists and turns, this one is for YOU!

I was gifted this copy by Bookouture and NetGalley to read and review - I was under no obligation to provide this review!

Review also up on Goodreads!!

I read this book in a middle of a slump so I really wished that I could've read this ARC all in one go. I know that I would've loved it more. So that was my own fault.

However, this book had quite a lot of twists and turns and I was constantly trying to figure out who actually did it and It changed every single chapter. That's what I love about murder mystery books. Your mind changes as the book goes on and you never actually have an idea who it is.
Was it Kate? Was it Connie? Was it Bae? It could've been anyone who had a motive which is what I thought but we only got a little insight on who Ray was as a person. Lets be honest he was scum who only cared about himself and was one of the characters I hated. Alongside Aiden of course...

The fact the whole family came together and it turned into a whole lot of mess was showing how life actually is. It's never perfect and I loved how serious it was and how loving they were to their Mum. The ending did shock me and now I am thinking whether the other person that died was the one we think or whether it was all a lie.

Safe to say I would love to read more of her books when I am out of a slump because I know they are worth more.

WOW I could not put this book down. It is such addictive reading, wanting to know all the answers, the words practically jump off the page.

This was an enjoyable read and I’ve liked previous novels by Samantha Haynes.
The premise of this one was revealing family secrets in a stunning location. Connie lost her beloved husband Ray and now needs to tell her girls a family secret. Kate, Darby and Bea have arrived at the family home with their families and it appears they all have secrets.
The book is to.d in three parts, the second part forty years in the past. I liked the characters and how the Tory unfolded. I did guess one of the plots but this didn’t detract much from the enjoyment. I wasn’t a fan of the ending.
