Wow…
I don’t say this lightly, this was one of the BEST books I have ever read.
This book gripped me from the beginning, with the prologue making you curious, and the Hunter family clearly being full of secrets.
This book made me feel every emotion, from heartbreak, to confusion, to curiosity, to amazement.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery books, psychological thrillers and plot twists.
Wow.
Samantha Hayes' "The Inheritance" is a gripping psychological thriller set against the misty landscapes of Scotland. When the protagonist's husband passes away, she gathers her three daughters to return to the place they once cherished. However, beneath the facade of grief, lies a terrible secret that threatens to unravel their lives.
As the family comes together, buried truths and hidden pasts are gradually exposed, leaving readers questioning whom to trust and what is real. With multiple points of view, vivid writing, and unexpected plot twists, the novel keeps readers on the edge of their seats, making it a riveting page-turner for fans of psychological thrillers and mystery.
The Hunter family is the perfect family… but this family has more secrets than most. Ray Hunter passes away and what he leaves in his wake might destroy the ones he loves. Connie, Ray’s wife, is left with the choice of how to deliver the news of Ray’s will. Their three daughters come to visit along with their families and no one will leave this holiday the same.
The Inheritance had me questioning everyone. No one in the family was safe from accusations. Each member has their own part to play in the unraveling of this picture perfect family. This slow burn had me glued to the pages. Each character is carefully crafted. Some I loved and others I wanted to hate but no one turned out to be who I expected. The ending had me speechless. I had to reread the last chapter to truly grasp the ending and still I’m left questioning. I’ve never had an ending that has made me as astonished as I am. Days later and I’m still trying make sense of it. It truly is the most mind blowing ending I’ve read.
WOW! I’ve just finished this book and feel a bit shell-shocked. So much was happening that I feel like after a break I need to go back and read it all again to take it all in properly. There was just one thing after another and it takes a special author to write like that and keep it all straight in their heads. I had absolutely no idea what was happening and every time I thought I’d clasped onto something, another bit of information was thrown out making my conclusions worthless. Awesome characters, all with their own agenda and very well written - you will not be able to guess the ending.
The beginning of the book was very slow but stick to it and you’ll see it gets better. The chapters were easy to follow since each one is a different person. I enjoyed the mystery.
A beautiful Rubiks cube of a book. Samantha Hayes has done it again! This author does a particularly good job at both setting up the story and placing you in the scene. With writing that is vivid and propulsive. Her pacing is immaculate and the twists are unexpected and hugely satisfying.
This is the first book that I’ve read so far from Samantha Hayes and I'm definitely gonna try out more! This was a gripping thriller that kept me hooked to the end with a couple of good twists and turns thrown in to ramp up the tension even more. The Hunter family dynamics are a mess with secrets, new and old. The characters and storyline were stellar and I was intrigued and delighted the entire time. Highly recommend this book and I am excited to read more by this author.
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reading copy of this book.
What a rollercoaster! Gripped from page one, so many secrets and lies and wondering how they'll all be revealed! Lots of unexpected twists kept me engrossed right to the last page! Highly recommend!

WOAH this book is unbelievably good! So well written in regards to managing to introduce each family member and their backstories while still being able to keep the reader intrigued. The book didn’t ever get confusing or complicated given all the mini stories within the book to help form the bigger picture- I was hooked to find out what this family is hiding…
It’s fast paced read that constantly had me questioning my thoughts on who was deceiving who and why… gripping from start to finish and will not leave you disappointed!!
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me early access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes - 4/5 ⭐
Wow. Hayes has a way with words. I'm still in shock over this book. What a ride. Brilliant. Perfectly paced, thriller, edge of your seat and consumes your life.
It was physically impossible to stop reading The Inheritance because there was a cliffhanger at nearly every page! I sat in pure shock so many times whilst working my way through it. I had to finish it in a day just so I wasn't left wondering!
The characters had some amazing personalities and were described perfectly. They really fit into the plot and made it work hand in hand. There is so much intrigue from the characters that, again, makes you not want to stop reading.
There were points where I knew exactly what was about to happen, but then a few pages later my theory was thrown out the window. It's a gripping story with some amazing twists.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookoture for allowing me to read this ARC - this is an HONEST review from my own personal opinion.
If you’re looking for a fast paced thriller that gives Alice Feeney and JP Delaney vibes then this is the book for you.
Every chapter left me on a cliff hanger and had me wanting to read what was happening next to the point where I considered not going to work or having any social plans so I could finish it.
The chapters were short which helped to make it easy to get through and i found the characters had strong personalities. I was not expecting the number of plot twists and turns or that my feelings towards certain characters would change as the story developed but that’s exactly what happened. Not only that but the ending made me gasp out loud. A definite recommendation from me!
5 Stars
Such an enjoyable and entertaining book packed with so many secrets, lies and twists.
This is a very clever story and I really like the author's writing style, always captivating and good to read.
Exceptionally well plotted with very well developed characters providing multiple POVs and reveals.
Part one builds the tension, intrigue and predicaments. Part two goes back to where it all started. Part three is a fast paced rollercoaster ride full of action and reveals. An epilogue explains how a major twist was possible.
I was immersed in this world and loved the setting in rural Scotland, but the characters made this so good.
Some likeable and some not, but the great thing is how you change your mind about them as you get to know them better and see them from multiple points of view and the main characters from their own perspectives.
Connie's husband Ray has died and left a will that reveals a dark secret that will impact her daughter's, Kate, Darby and Bea in the present. There is a big twist at the end where you have to work out how it was possible, but all the clues are there hiding in plain sight and very satisfying to work it out. This would make a brilliant series and there is enough fall-out left for a brilliant sequel. Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley UK for the ARC.
Overall a decent thriller. Was a little easy to predict where the story was going to go but a couple good twist at the end that were unexpected. There were a few story lines that the author pointed towards that took a good twist so I definitely appreciated those. And it was a thrilling ending. I love an ending that you don’t see coming and there were definitely those shock factors without a true conclusive ending and not something where they all live happily ever after. Would recommend to those that enjoy thrillers.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #Bookouture and Samantha Hayes for the opportunity to read an advance copy of THE INHERITANCE, to be published 8 August 2023. This domestic psychological thriller involved the Hunter Family as they participated in a holiday together. What becomes apparent, through the various character’s personal views, is that everyone has a secret, each of which could upend the family. It gets better and better as the novel proceeds, or you could also say it gets worse as each of the secrets is revealed over time. Twists and turns throughout the slow burn novel. 5/5 Stars. #NetGalley. #Bookouture. #SamanthaHayes. #THEINHERITANCE
Think of a Lifetime movie that was made into a book. Everyone in this family has a secret and every secret has major consequences if found out.
This thriller of three sisters, mom and their extended family is a slow burn, but still keeps you engaged. Every time you think you’ve figured it out, there’s more to the story.
The last 100 pages will keep you reading till the very end. Definitely couldn’t put the book down.
I just reviewed The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes. #TheInheritance #NetGalley

This was a gripping thriller that kept me hooked to the end with a couple of good twists and turns thrown in to ramp up the tension even more. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
This was my first read by Samatha Hayes and it didn’t disappoint! There was so many secrets amongst the Hunter family and it made for a good book! I’m usually not a fan of third story pov, however, I enjoyed it since it had many different povs. The book starts out a bit slow but the last 100 pages or so easily just go at such a fast pace and things get juicy!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC
Oh what a web we weave…. A book chock full of surprises, characters with more skeletons than closets! I really enjoyed it, fast paced and twisty to the end.
The drama of this story leaps out in the first pages. It is written from the perspective of each of the family members. The trouble is they all have secrets that could break the family apart. The author skillfully weaves in doubts and details that make it difficult to predict the conclusion (even though you start with it!) This is a great read if you like psychological thrillers, drama, and mystery.
Family drama- mystery
This is one family reunion I wouldn’t want to be a part of.
So many characters involved & so many pov you definitely get a complex story with thoughts from everyone & it seemed everyone had a twist to their story but be a Hunter family tradition.
It started very very slow but I think it was worth it for the end. At about 40% I was considering stopping but I stuck it through and my oh my was it interesting. Each chapter got better and better. It helped that it was several pov.
Secrets were buried long ago and looks like he didn’t take the secrets to his grave. Read on Aug 8 to find out which secrets!
