Wow. You know there’s going to be a family secret from the start and it’s easy to figure out the basic portion of the secret. Then more and more start to unfold and it’s mind blowing. How will this family ever recover, what is left of the original family. Wow so many twists and turns you never see coming!

The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes
Connie has brought her 3 daughters and their families to the cabin to enjoy some time away and to share some secrets that she must reveal before the girls read their father’s will. Will they forgive her, get revenge or worse?! ☠️
Talk about a book FULL of twists, revelations and turns! The book is broken into 3 parts with different character point of views. Part 1 felt like it drug on and I honestly had no clue what I was reading 🤷🏼♀️ Part 2 really picked up and I was getting excited and almost started over since I understood 🙋🏼♀️ but the Part 3 came and while it was gripping and all secrets revealed, it felt all over the place. Overall it was a decent book but not one I would read again because it had too much going on and felt sloppy.
Thank you #netgalley #bookouture for the arc!
The Inheritance is another page turning jaw dropping read by Samantha Hayes.
It's a family reunion like no other and Connie the mum of 3 girls knows her secret is about to be exposed in her late husbands Will.
This will destroy her family.
Its quite the family with nasty and I do love nasty characters and some you will quite like and feel sorry for.
Twists and turns, red herrings and an ending you wont see coming: Samantha Hayes excels at shocking you.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a page turning read.
another twisty addictive read.so gripping from page one. There were three sisters. Kate Darby and Bea, their parents Ray and Connie have a place. A holiday home called Hunters Lodge Ray has died and Connie wants all the family together. as she has something to tell the girls as Connie and Ray have secrets and will impact the girls but then things start to happen in bits quite creepy. and the girls have secrets to a very good read from this author so recommend.
What a tangled web The Hunters weave, there are lots of characters and back stories leading up to the whole family meeting up for a ‘get together’ lots of mini stories within the big picture BUT as the book was so well written and so intriguing in every direction it went it didn’t muddle or phase me just encouraged me to find out more about exactly what this seemingly well adjusted family had been up to…
It’s fast and furious ( hope that’s not a copyright 😀 ) and all is entwined together to make a really full on exciting read
One of those books that you never quite knew who was deceiving who and why…and left you inbetween reading wondering what was going to happen next, thrilling from start to end
Thank you NetGalley, Samantha Hayes, and Bookouture for allowing me to read an advanced copy of The Inheritance in exchange for an honest review.
This book seems to be getting a lot of rave reviews. I am not in agreement with that assessment. I will give it 3 stars, but I did not fully enjoy it. The writing was good. The story was bland in my opinion.
There was an element of suspense from the very beginning. It just took forever to get anywhere. I thought this was going to be a great thriller, but it was much more of a drama type of book.
Kudos to all of those who really enjoy this one though.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book, and the opportunity to provide honest, voluntary feedback. This novel was absolutely spellbinding. The characters and storyline were stellar and I was intrigued and delighted the entire time. Highly recommend this book and I am excited to read more by this author.
Set amidst the serene backdrop of a family lodge on the picturesque banks of a Scottish loch, the Hunter women and their families gather to mourn the recent passing of Ray, the beloved husband, and father. Within this emotional setting, Connie, the grieving widow, faces an unthinkable task—revealing to one of her three daughters that she has been disowned in Ray's will. However, this heart-wrenching revelation is merely the beginning, as more secrets lie dormant, waiting to be unveiled during this holiday.
Samantha Hayes, a master of explosive family dramas and thrillers, weaves a tale filled with cunning red herrings and mind-bending twists. Readers are consistently warned not to accept anything at face value when diving into a Samantha Hayes book, and once again, she artfully blindsides us with her narrative prowess. Although the story initially sets a deliberate pace to introduce us to the intricate characters, it doesn't take long before the plot escalates into a breathtaking whirlwind.
Personally, I adored the book and could easily envision it as an enthralling TV series, with its gripping storyline and multifaceted characters. Samantha Hayes' writing style immerses readers in a world where nothing is as it seems, keeping us on the edge of our seats throughout.
I must express my heartfelt gratitude to Netgalley and Bookouture for gifting me this advanced copy, with no expectation or obligation for a review. However, having been enraptured by the tale, I couldn't resist sharing my enthusiasm for this exceptional book.#TheInheritance #NetGalley
I could not put this book down. It was a little slower to start with but I was not expecting the twists that came. I audibly gasped while reading and that rarely happens. I enjoyed the different parts with present and past tense.
OMG OMG OMG, this book has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. By far one of the best reads of this year, 5 stars without a doubt. From the cover I thought it might be a young adult book, but not at all. If there is any book that has to become a television series, this is it (I'm begging)
A family gathers at their summer home to spend a few days together a few months after their father's death. Since they were girls these three sisters were exposed to a routine that their father called "the family confessional" in which every Friday they had to tell some secret, as if it were what was expected of them, without prejudice, the mother knew that what Ray really wanted, was that she confessed.
The routine of this family was always governed by the will of his father, Ray, it was always in Ray's way. Connie, the widow, wonders how it is possible that even from the grave, he is still able to exert power over her, and that even dead, his actions will still cause more pain. It's clearly time for a new family confession. But as they used to say since childhood, the Hunter sisters stay together, and whoever tries to hurt any of them, will end up dead.
The Inheritance by Samantha Hayes is partly a family drama and just partly a psychological thriller. At least this is how it felt. I would say the beginning was a bit slow but nicely wrapped me with the story of each family member. And I didn't realize how I was sucked in! And no, there were no thrilling elements but enough drama so I was curious to know - what is going on? Who did what and who with? And all of the characters are so loveable! So somehow you becoming a part of the family. In the last 20% psychological thriller takes over and it becomes an absolutely unputdownable psychological thriller with shocking twists.
The Hunter family gets together in the family holiday lodge to celebrate their late dad and spend some time together. As we can guess, nearly each family member carries some secrets and usually, they come out! Some secrets are sweet and innocent, some heartbreaking but some life-threatening.
Many twists! And what I loved the most was that all the answers were given! I didn't need to guess or think!
I can't say Thank you enough to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advance copy!
Definitely a "must-read" book and definitely made me explore other books by Samantha Hayes.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC!
I love a good family secret and this book did not disappoint. I totally thought I had the book figured out until the last third happened. I honestly am shell shocked. The twists could not have been better!
The only thing I wish was explained better was Theo’s attitude in the beginning of the book. Definitely seemed to not flow with his character.
Overall amazing.
In the family lodge on the banks of a loch in Scotland, the Hunter women and their families gather a few months after the death of Ray, husband and father. Still grieving, Connie his widow has the unthinkable task of telling one of the three girls she has been disowned in Ray's will. But this isnt the only secret that will be revealed during this holiday.
An explosive family drama/thriller with red herrings and twists galore.
I know when I read a Samantha Hayes book to not take anything at face value and look beyond the words but each time she completely blindsides me with her story. This book has a fairly slow start as we are introduced to the characters but once we know them, my goodness does the pace take off.
I loved it and could totally imagine it as a TV series

Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************
I thought I had safely buried the past – protecting my family from the secrets I’ve been keeping. But now my lies are exposed in my husband’s will, and one of us will pay for them with their life…
My darling husband, Ray , is gone. My three beautiful daughters and I have come to Scotland to walk the trails we once enjoyed together, hold each other, and cry over our loss.
But the awful thing is, I feel relieved. Because now Ray is gone, I’m finally safe…
Except for the terrible secret I tried so hard to bury – the real reason we’re here.
I pull one of my daughters aside and tell her the truth. Ray has left her nothing in his will. I see the shock, the pain, the confusion on her face.
I am terrified. My darkest secret is about to be exposed.
I could never have imagined that one lie would lead to this. Trapped in this house together, emotions spiralling, truths coming out at last. Everything I’ve worked so hard to protect begins to unravel before my eyes…
I have no idea what’s going to happen next, but I’m not sure my family can survive the fallout from all our lies.
And my greatest fear is that someone’s secret is worth killing for…
A totally gripping psychological thriller from an Amazon No. 1 bestseller that will have your head spinning and your jaw on the floor with every twist. Fans of The Housemaid, Gone Girl and The Family Upstairs won’t be able to put this down!
This is a lively, twisty book that will keep you enthralled for hours or days depending upon your reading speed and if you have nothing to do but sit in front of a fan in this steamy weather! I was shocked more than once at where the storyline went and was kept guessing right up to the end of the book. I have actually gone back and looked at the author’s books on Amazon and bought them or borrowed them via Kindle Unlimited. That is proof that I loved this book if I want to read the entire author’s oeuvre.
Highly recommended to family, friends and patrons alike. #shortbutsweetreviews

Received this on NetGalley!! If I’m being frank the first %20 of the book was sloooooow! I am so freaking happy that I stuck with it tho! Well worth it!
A few dislikes, multiple character point of views! Where it’s not my cup of tea it may be yours. It just takes me a longer time to read because I have to think about whose point of view I’m reading from!
Also, there were a few things in the book that I didn’t understand why they were in there and to me could have been left out, but doesn’t make or break the book for me!
The plot twist, and then the twist again and the ending with a twist and a smack in the face! The last half of the book I literally couldn’t put down! I can’t wait to read more from Samantha Hayes and am extremely grateful I was able to read this before it releases! Wild ride y’all!!
This one felt like being on a roller coaster! The Hunter family dynamics are a mess with secrets, new and old. As they convene after the patriarch's death, many secrets will be revealed - and maybe a murder!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!
This book has all the things that make for a great story. It is a bit a family drama mixed in with perfectly timed thriller elements that create the perfect amount of suspense and tension. Each red flag arrives at the right time to keep you turning pages late into the night.
I enjoyed this book although it wasn't one of my favourites. The twisted weren't too exciting for me and a little too predictable.
The Inheritance: 4 ⭐️
I really enjoyed this book! The Inheritance follows the Hunter family. The mom, Connie, and her three daughters, Kate (plus hubby, Adrian, and twins, Finn and Mia), Darby (plus hubby, Travis, stepson, Theo, and son Charlie), and Bea are brought together at the family home in Scotland after the death of the family patriarch, Ray. Connie wants to get her girls together to tell them a big secret Ray left in his will. And that is where all the "fun" begins.
The book is told from multiple POVs which made the story even more interesting. The book is broken up into 3 parts: present day, 40 years ago, and back to present day. The story starts off a little slow, but secrets and twists are being planted from the very beginning. This family has more secrets than you can keep track of. Everyone is hiding something.
The last 25% of the book FLIES by. Secrets start getting revealed and the pages practically turn themselves. This book was PERFECT in my eyes, up until I read "The End". The ending left a lot of questions unanswered. The ending didn't override my enjoyment of the rest of the book; however, I definitely prefer the ending to wrap everything up with a bow.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first book by Samantha Hayes and I found the cover and description to be intriguing. Unfortunately, that was the most interesting part of the book for me.
This was more of a family drama than a thriller, and it was difficult to follow along with the timeline. I became invested in the characters and their own storylines, but felt that they weren't developed enough to provide closure. I felt the ending was abrupt and it left many loose ends and unanswered storylines. I would be willing to give another book by this author a try, but I will not be recommending this title to my friends.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
