Loved this book. So thrilling down to the last page. The plot started very quickly and that is the best type of book. I enjoy multi pov books so I can get to learn what makes each character tick. I also love how this author put the secret in our face the entire time but you still have to read most of the way through to see it and then it hits you like a ton of bricks. Looking forward to more from this author.
Well this was a fun read! I love dual POVs as it gives you more context to the story. It goes back and forth between the two women in the elevator, Cerys and Maeve. Once it was given who their connection was, it was kind of a dead giveaway on what the plot twists are. I did get exactly what the twists are but the reveal was pretty good. It did not hinder me from enjoying the story as it moved forward.
It's pretty fast paced so I definitely recommend this to everyone who's looking for a fast-paced, dual POV thriller.
You’re trapped in an elevator with a woman who will stop at nothing until she’s gotten her revenge.
With flashbacks and snippets from the past the details unfold in such a suspenseful way that leaves you wanting answers. There’s a creepy sense of doom throughout that had me wondering how everything would play out. I felt so claustrophobic and on edge because of the trapped elevator setting. It’s quite a tangled web and how everything is connected is executed so well. With twists and turns, I couldn’t put it down!
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bookouture for the gifted copy!
I wanted to love this. It’s a great premise and they storytelling skills are incredible. You could be in that elevator car!
But the story was predictable and even the well written dual stories couldn’t save this.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this eCopy to review
I am a little disappointed in The elevator I had guessed everything by half-way through. After that it did seem quite slow to reach the end. I was worried how a whole book could be written set in an elevator, but there are lots of flashbacks from both Anna's and Mae's point of view so the setting does not get too claustrophobic.
A solid thriller if a little long and drawn out in places
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - The Elevator - Claire Cooper
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book with a great premise which promises tension and drama from the outset.
2 stories are woven together, slowly bit by bit until the meaning of them both is played out for all to see.
A really unique idea to have these two characters thrown together in a claustrophobic lift at the beginning - and it was fun to try and pick your way through the different plot threads in the book to work out exactly why.
Initially, it was a slow burner for me personally (hence the 3 stars) - but after the 50% mark in the book, it was hard to put down.
Fast paced, fascinating, gripping read with twists I never saw coming! This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more from her in the future! Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for my ARC.
This was very good. Lots of clever twists and turns and I really liked the way the whole story came together throughout the book. I'm looking forward to more books by this author.
This one was definitely a winner for me. I found numerous elements to enjoy in this book. The fast-paced plot, complemented by the dual perspectives, had me completely hooked from the start and held my attention until the very end. The use of short chapters was a clever choice, propelling the story forward with a relentless momentum.
Let me say, I am not a fan of elevators. If I can I will always take the stairs. After all an elevator is nothing more than a metal box going up and down (hopefully) in a shaft. Once the thing refuses to do what it was installed for, all hell breaks loose.
I would not like to be in these women's shoes. I have to admire them, because even though they struggle, they still manage to not panic to much. I think I would die.
What is there left to do besides talking and both end up trusting each other with some of their deepest feelings.
When the doors of the elevator opened and the women stepped into the carriage they did not know each other. Little by little they realise who they are sharing this small space with, unable to leave...
However, I must admit that there were moments when the timeline became confusing, especially in the flashbacks and history chapters. Keeping track of the sequential order proved challenging at times. Additionally, around the 60% mark, I managed to piece everything together, which slightly diminished the level of intrigue towards the end.#TheElevator #NetGalley
I can’t stand lifts ( elevators ) so of course this was a ‘must read’ for me,weird that as don’t like flying and am always drawn to reading books set on planes, anyway that’s as it is….the story is told from both women’s POV who are stuck in the lift and for me it was told well, managing to portray the horror of being in the lift with no help on the way mixed with their past stories, leading up to the present, the blurb gives it away that they are connected only they don’t know how or why but as the story moves on we find out, quite shockingly has to be said how they are linked
It kept me reading….the most important thing in any book 😊 and I was invested in their lives and enjoyed the tense claustrophobic atmosphere of the book,a pinch of salt may be needed when all is revealed but that’s fine
All in all a good solid read, packs a punch and the surprises keep coming…..however it has done little to encourage me to venture into a lift ( elevator ) again!
Wow.. this book came as such a pleasant surprise. The cover is so intriguing and the story doesn’t disappoint at all. A complete page turner.
The story unfolds in such a clever way and i kept guessing till the last page. Claire Cooper is such a brilliant writer. It is an incredibly intelligent story. You will keep wondering what will happen in that elevator.
this book was fantastic! I was holding off on reading it because I had a feeling it would blow me away and I'd need a lot of quiet time to focus on it with no distractions and I am happy to say I was not wrong about that in the least.
I enjoyed so many elements of this book. I loved the fast-paced plot and the dual-perspectives. Books like that always hook me quickly and keep me until the end. I also really appreciated the short chapters to move the book along. However, at times, the timeline was really confusing. I couldn't always keep track of sequential order in the flashbacks/history chapters. I also figured everything out about 60% of the way through the book and that made the end slightly less interesting. However, good read overall of a fast-paced dual-perspective thriller!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for an early copy of The Elevator. This was an interesting plot and I really Loved it!!! What a twist, and when each character realized the twist, that made for a WOW read! I really liked the characters and the whole premise even though it was in an elevator. If you can get past the synopsis of it being in an elevator, go for it, you won’t be disappointed.
The Elevator by Claire Cooper is the author's debut novel. I hope there are more from this author.
What a ride! As advertised, the story is quite gripping and a good psychological thriller with a surprising twist at the end. Sometimes the story was a bit predictable, but overall, a good read with some jaw-dropping reveals.
I would recommend this book, and I will read more by this author.

This mixed the mark for me. I couldn't get into the writing style, the story moved so slowly, and the big twist wasn't as exciting ad it should have been for such a build up.

I love the dual timeline taking us to the past and giving us insight in the backstory of both ladies. On the other hand there is the present where we can witness the interaction between both main characters. The author lets the women do the talking, offering us two points of view.
This is a very enjoyable story where jealousy, revenge and guilt are a few of the emotions forming the foundation of this book.
Some of the thinking behind the story were straightforward, but the author still managed to surprise me. 4 stars
Thank you
For lovers of Freida McFadden this novel is for you! Twisted with an ending you don’t see coming! I loved this.
I really did not like this book. The premise sounded so good. I found it to be slow and boring. I was waiting for some big thing to happen but it didn’t.
Great thanks to Netgally, C.J Cooper, and Bookouture for this digital advanced readers copy. When I saw the cover of this book I was very interested in what it was about. I liked the synopsis so I decided to give it a go!
By chance two women get stuck in an elevator in New York City. Cerys, an HR director and Maeve a mystery woman with no pass or appointment. They pass the time by talking and keeping hope that someone will be rescued soon. The more they talk the more they realize they are not strangers, more like arch enemies with a significant connection. It becomes apparent that one of them will not be making it out alive of the sweltering metal elevator.
I enjoyed the plot being told in past and present via dual point of view. In my opinion the characters were well developed. I did get hung up on the timeline a few times. I think if each chapter was labeled by each characters name it would be easier for the reader.
I rated this 3.5 rounded up 4/5⭐️
