Being trapped in a lift alone as a child I wasn’t sure how far I would get with this! At times my heart was pounding and I had to stop reading, which was hard as it was so good! Loved it!
Heart pounding thriller that left me on the edge of my seat. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one. Definitely one of the best books this year.

I moved halfway around the world to start again where no one would know what I was hiding. I’m lonely, but I’m safe”.
Told in dual timelines and by two women, this is a story of revenge, of two women who are mortal enemies - but one of them doesn’t even know it yet!
It’s a sweltering day and Maeve and Cerys are in a New York elevator travelling up to the 26th floor when suddenly it jerks to a halt and all the lights go out. Cerys is frantic as she is on her way to a very important meeting in her role as HR director.
Maeve starts to panic, being trapped in this boiling hot metal container, and neither the intercom or the cameras are working, but Maeve shouldn’t even be in the building, she’s conned her way past security, and is travelling to the same floor as Cerys, but with something very dark in mind.
As the hours tick by and secrets are revealed, the tension rises and it’s not certain who will come out of the situation intact.
I loved the premise of this one and there were some really tense moments, but there were times it wasn’t immediately clear to me which narrator I was reading, which I found confusing. Overall though I did enjoy it, but would have liked a bit more clarity.
Two women are confronted for revenge and trapped in an elevator.
The characters are well defined in their personalities and are appealing. The plot has some twists and turns that can be surprising although at a certain point you can already imagine everything that is going on.
The book is narrated from both points of view and sometimes it is a little confusing to discern who is talking.
Overall it does the job, it entertains and keeps you hooked.
Good book! This book had a bit of everything! It had suspense,, intrigue, murder, mystery, a bit of a who done it and some crazy twists and turns! The storyline was interesting and kept me glued to my Kindle! I definitely recommend reading this book as it was worth reading! it wasn't one of my all time favorites but still worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and Claire Cooper for providing an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
The premise of this book is fantastic. It had everything to be perfect. The unusual setting of being stuck on a lift, great interesting female characters and a well written plot.
However, as others have pointed out, although past and present and two different POV's is a completely fine structure for a book, there needs to be more clarity regarging POV's. I got so confusedI had to reread full paragraphs at time. I was not sure whose mind I was in and who was the narrator which ruined the experience for me. The book would've flowed much better if that was labelled clearly.
Other than that, the characters were alluring and the secrets were surprising enough for me.
Mystery and intrigue keep the novel moving quickly. Realistic characters add to the story. Secrets kept me guessing. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the gifted author. What next? Don’t start this at night. It will keep you awake.
A well written book which held my interest in the storyline with realistic characters. The different timescales past and present were good although I did get a bit confused sometimes which one I was reading about.
Overall I enjoyed this book although I didn't feel it was a psychological thriller nor did it keep me on the edge of my seat but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC which I will recommend to my Facebook Book Groups but I wouldn't buy if for myself after having read it.
I flew through this in a day and it did keep me hooked. It didn't feel like a thriller until quite far on in the book, initially its just a multiple pov, 2 timline narrative about the characters lives and I felt it dragged a bit as I waited for something to actually happen! You can guess the basics from the synopsis etc but I was frustrated waiting for it to actually get to the good part. The characters were well written though and all the time spent looking bakc on their lives did give a really clear insight into them and they're written as complex, 3 dimensional people. A strong book but I'd say either to change the genre from thriller to women's fiction or add in some more mystery earlier on to keep the reader interested
This thriller had lots of Mystery which kept me hooked. The story is told past and present from two different perspectives which keeps you guessing.
Two strangers get stuck on an elevator lift in New York, Maeve and Cerys secretes are shared between them. But they aren’t exactly strangers to each other they are enemies but one of them doesn’t know it will they both make it out of the elevator alive?
This was a good thriller which had me hooked I will definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good mystery thriller.
Something a little different.
Although a lot of the story takes part in the elevator we are taken back and forth into each of there lives.
Great idea and i was totally engrossed.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy..
This is definitely one not to be missed.
