Wow, this series is pretty incredible so far and this third instalment doesn't disappoint either!

Maggie is chief of police in a tiny town that sounds a bit like the Wild West to me. She is awaiting her new Lieutenant, who turns out to be Kal, a man of Indian descent. Kal is looking for a fresh start, but the locals are not at all sure about him, since the town where they are living is predominantly white. Kal is used to being in the minority, although he does have to deal with some awkward situations because of it. Unfortunately, I can imagine this kind of situation happening all too easily :(

Steve, Maggie's fiance, is keeping a bunch of secrets and he fears that he may lose Maggie because of it. I was really liking him in earlier books but I am starting to wonder about him now...

Then, add in an appearance by Maggie's estranged mother, and there is plenty of drama happening in this book!

And that is even before we have a polaroid picture of a teenage girl who has been beaten and tied to a chair.....oh, and a dead body.

Maggie is stretched very thin, both physically and emotionally in this book and my admiration for her just grows.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the next book!

4.5 stars from me.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

Maggie has finally found her lieutenant, Kal. He is a welcome addition and a fast learner.
One of my favorite scenes is Kal in the bar asking for help.
The mystery is good. I had narrowed it down to two suspects and I was correct about which one it was.
Readers learn more about Maggie’s estrangement from her parents.
The biggest surprise was what was going on with Steve. What depths to plum with him!
I’m also eager to unearth more of Kal’s story!
I’m waiting for the next Coyote Cove book!!

This is the third installment in a police procedural series where the characters show great growth, and I was engrossed in the story that had a nice flow, enough tension, twists and turns, secrets and everything beautifully written by the author that is new to me. I’m just sorry that I didn’t start from the first book, but I'm on my way to correct that. Excellent for readers of Angela Marsons and Lisa Regan.

This is the 3rd book in the Chief Maggie Riley series and I loved it just as much as the first! Shannon Hollinger really knows how to captivate your attention from the very beginning to keep your attention throughout! The only other author that does this immediately from the beginning of a book for me is Freida McFadden, so Shannon's in wonderful company there! Highly recommend this book and cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next. Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Each book in this series just gets better and better. I love Shannon's style of having so many characters intertwining. The narrative follows so many storylines, but it is still easy to keep track. I really enjoyed getting more back story on Steve, Maggie and now Kal. Overall the story in this one is great and I'm excited for #4!

The Shadow Girl is the third book in the Maggie Riley series.

This one is about missing girls and a found body.

There are new character introduced. Maggie has finally got some help with a new Lieutenant, Kal, who is about as welcome in town as Maggie herself. Maggie's mother also makes an appearance.

Maggie and her fiance Steve both have secrets about their pasts. Both of them are concerned how these secrets will change their relationship if the other finds out. I am enjoying their relationship and learning more about them in each installment. It appears that Kal is also hiding something, but what?

Well written, fast paced and easy to read. Can't wait for the next one. So happy to have found this author and series.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

Was she a runaway or was she kidnapped and murdered? This is the question that Police Chief Maggie Riley must answer when a young girl’s body is found at the garbage transfer station. Maggie has just hired her new Lieutenant, Kai Kishore, and she is going to need his help when she receives a polaroid picture of a young girl injured and bound to a chair. No one has reported the girl missing and her mother believes she is with her uncle, off grid. Coyote Cove is a small town in Maine where secrets are held close and newcomers, including Maggie, are not always welcome. Maggie’s brother has been missing for years and she believes that she knows who took him, but trying to find that information derailed her career as a highly decorated city detective. Maggie’s mother arrives in town which adds to her stress as Maggie is also supposed to be planning her wedding to Steve. Maggie is so involved in searching for the missing girl that she isn’t aware that Steve is dealing with a threat from his past. My only negative comment is that I’m not fond of cliffhangers and the issue with Steve is definitely one. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. This go around I was more invested in what was happening with the characters and their secrets. The case was secondary. It had plenty of twists and I didn't guess the villain. There was a character readers will love to hate. I can't wait for the next book!

This series keeps dragging me in. A dead girl, thrown away, another missing child. Secrets run amok and murder is on the agenda for Coyote Cove. I feel for Chief Maggie Riley, she cares for everyone and does her best. We are still waiting for her deep darkest secret to reveal. I am thrilled with Kal her new Lt, but like the series, he has his own secret, one we are not privy to yet. Love his telling Maggie, hey if you don't trust me.... . Steve, Maggie's fiance. I am not sure where to go with that, He loves Maggie, he cares, He has a giving personality, but he needs to man up a bit. We finally get info on Steve's big dark secret. I understand his fear and hesitation with sharing, but man up and deal. I have a sneaking suspicion he won't and I am really not thrilled with that idea. I get needing it to carry the series along, but I personally think he can own up and how they deal will carry through. My two unsolicited cents. The series is told in multiple point of views and is a fast paced read. I highly recommend reading in order. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions. #TheSHadowGirl #ChiefMaggieRiley #ShannonHollinger#Bookouture #NetGalley

4.25⭐
The Shadow Girl returns readers to the small town of Coyote Cove, Maine for another brilliant installment of the Chief Maggie Riley series and just like the previous two this one is told from multiple points of view including Maggie, her fiancée Steve and her new to town employee Kal. Who Maggie had employed as her new lieutenant after the last one was murdered.

And once again it's a story that's full of mystery and secrets.

As the body of a young pregnant girl is found amongst the rubbish and Maggie is sure she recognises her as a runaway she searched for two years ago.

But unfortunately for Maggie she has to hand the case over to local state police. However she is soon back involved when a photo is left for her of a young girl called Cassie who has been beaten and gagged. Only the girls mother insists she is safe, staying with her Uncle in a nearby town. And if Cassie does have any bruises they are fake, created by make up to gain attention.

Yet, Maggie isn't convinced and is sure something terrible has happened and is determined to get answers and she's soon proven right.

But, finding Cassie soon becomes the least of Maggies problems. As her Mum after years of silence has arrived in Coyote Cove with news of her brother Brandon. And her new lieutenant isn't exactly getting a warm welcome from the locals.

And with so many secrets, twists, turns and danger. This was a story that easily kept me reading and it's a series I want to read more from. Especially as there is so much to these characters that we are yet to learn and I'm excited for that.

My thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read an early copy of The Shadow Girl. 😊

This is a great read.
Maggie has a new deputy but he is not made to feel welcome by the community.
With a missing girl to find he has to try and ignore the locals and find the girl. This is made difficult as her family don't believe she's missing, but Maggie has been left photos that show otherwise.
As well as the case, Maggie's fiancé Steve had been keeping secrets from her and something is revealed that may mean danger for Maggie.
This is a gripping crime thriller.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

The Shadow Girl is book 3 in the Chief Maggie Riley series by Shannon Hollinger.
Another fast paced, addictive, gripping story by this extremely talented author!!!
This book is extremely well written with extremely vivid descriptions that leaves you racing towards the end.
A real page-turner that will keep you guessing until the very end. This has quickly become one of my favorite series to read.
Hollinger is brilliant at building tension and unease. Creating an atmosphere that you can literally feel.
The book flowed smoothly and kept me interested.
Her characters are complex but interesting and Chief Maggie has quickly become a favorite of mine.
The suspense starts from the first page and never lets up.
If you have yet to start with book one I’d highly recommend starting with The Girl Who Lied.

"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."

Coyote Cove is a sort of Midsomer with murder rate higher than El Salvador, the hightest in the world according to Wikipedia, that and it's quite dangerous to go walking into the woods.
That said I find this book gripping, moving, and well plotted. A solid thriller that kept me reading and guessing.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Oh my gosh. I just cannot get enough of the Chief Maggie Riley series. This story is full of unlimited suspense and shocking twists, This is a gritty edge of your seat thriller that will leave you bone chillingly cold. Shannon Hollinger is one of my new favorite authors as she knows how to pull you into her story where you will live until you finish the book, even though living there is slightly creepy. Shannon Hollinger's background gives her a firsthand viewpoint into crimes and criminals, and her expertise shines through in this book and this series.

Chief Maggie Riley moved to Coyote Cove to get away from the big city detective life. As you read more of her story you will see that Maggie has not had an easy life. It has actually been quite tragic. Now she is fighting for respect as the Chief in the town of Coyote Cove. Some of the residents are not very happy about a woman being in charge. A young girl's body has been found. Everyone thought she left town, but apparently she never left. Now another girl is missing and Maggie has received a gruesome photo of this young woman which spurs her into action. She will have to go into parts of the town that she never wanted to go. Seedy places where she is not welcome. Time is not on her side. This is a critical situation of life and death proportions.

There are several back stories also going on in the background as we learn more about Maggie's past. We also are learning more about Steve, her future husband's, mysterious past. This one will keep you on your toes and possibly keep you awake as you power through the pages frantically trying to find out who is to blame for this tragedy. Whew! I really need a break after reading this thriller, but I cannot wait for the next one. Shannon Hollinger has written a blue ribbon winner in this book and this series. I cannot get enough of Maggie Riley. She is tough as nails and smart to boot. This reader anxiously awaits book #4.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The Shadow Girl is the third book in the Chief Maggie Riley series. I have read the 2nd and the 3rd books in the series. I am going to double back and read the first. Each one is a stand-alone read and very strong on its own. But the series is worth reading in its entirety.

This one starts with Maggie getting a new Lieutenant, Kal, to help her with policing the town. They head out as Maggie shows him around when they get a call about the body of a young girl being found. Maggie believes she knows who it is.

Later Maggie finds an unmarked envelope on the steps of the police station. Inside is a photo of a teenage girl, bound and bruised. Maggie is determined to find the young girl she believes is in danger, and wonders if this is connected to the other girl that they found.

Meanwhile, Steve, Maggie's fiancé, is getting calls from his long-lost friend and told he needs a favor. This strikes terror in Steve as we slowly learn more about his "friend." Steve has been keeping things from Maggie and its clear he doesn't want to share this with Maggie.

Also, Maggie's mother comes to town to show her the evidence that her private investigator found regarding Maggie missing brother. Maggie's mother adds to the stress level she feels from the cases she is currently trying to solve.

This story is an intensely riveting story from the beginning to the end. The story is told from multiple points of views. In the second book I didn't feel as if I learned a whole lot about Steve. Now as we learn more about Steve in this one there clearly is more to learn and when it is revealed will the truth compromise the relationship he has with Maggie, only time will tell.

We also get to meet Maggie's mother. There is a lot of drama there as she appears to be frozen in time since her son went missing. All these stories unfold simultaneously making this a very intense mystery. The drama is kept at a fever pitch peeling back the layers of an onion one at a time. The writing is descriptive when it needs to be, but it also tells the story slowly leaving the reader turning the pages wanting to know more.

I highly recommend this series if you love mysteries that keep you guessing. You won't be disappointed.

Police Chief Maggie Riley finds a picture of a teenage girl, beaten and tied up – who left it for her, is the girl still OK, can she find her …
To solve this it she will have to head into the logging camps which operate on their own rules.
Steve, her finance, has his own troubles as an old friend gets in touch, and threatens to tell the secret he has been keeping
Once again you need to fastened your seat belt.

I have read all 5 novels published by @thiswritersays and have absolutely loved every single one! Shannon’s latest novel is the third book in the Chief Maggie Riley series: The Shadow Girl. This book picks up where Their Angel’s Cry left off, but with a new case. Maggie is now investigating a missing teenage girl. She finds a Polaroid of the girl bound and beaten, on her Jeep. However, no one else in the small town of Coyote Cove seems concerned. What secrets will Maggie’s investigation uncover?!

I highly recommend reading this series, as well as Shannon’s other two standalone thrillers. All of her books have been 5 star reads for me. She is one of my auto-buy/auto-read authors.

Thank you @bookouture and @netgalley for allowing me to read this book ahead of publication in exchange for my honest review.

A story about a police chief of a small, rural town with a past, a missing girl found dead, and a close-knit town with secrets. Except that's it's happened again, and someone has left a Polaroid of another kidnapped girl. There's limited time to find her and unravel the connection between investigations, which is closer than she knows.

This was a fun crime thriller. It is more character driven in the first 80%, with the last 20% being packed with action. The chapters rotate between characters, and we get a well-rounded view of everything that's going on. Solid 4 stars.
