Chief Maggie Riley finds an unmarked envelope on the steps of the police station. Inside is a photo of a teenage girl, bound and bruised. Maggie’s heart constricts at the terror evident in her tear-filled eyes. Who is she? What has happened to her? And most importantly, can Maggie find her, before it’s too late? A great read – lots of surprises and an excellent ending. A high-stakes domestic thriller that is utterly absorbing.
Having read books 1 and 2 of this series, I was desperate to carry on and read book 3 so I'm grateful to Netgalley for granting my wish. It's obviously an honest review as I am totally invested in this series now ( even abandoned my new Alex cross hardback). The characters are easy to like and there are enough twists to make it difficult to pin down a suspect. The plots are different, so could probably be read as standalone. The only minus to this book, in my opinion, is that I now have to wait for book 4!
I absolutely loved this book and this series. I’m anxiously awaiting the next book as the ending definitely left me wanting more. Will Steve’s secrets wreck his and Maggie’s relationship. I sure hope not. I highly recommend this book.
There is something about this series that keeps me coming back. As I stated before I wasn’t sure I actually liked any of the main characters but I’m starting to change that. I’m definitely ready for more. The author has a way of weaving a story that keeps you on your toes.
A novel of intrigue written by one of my favorite authors. This talented author has written another page turner. Maggie Riley solves mysteries. The setting of Maine small town adds to the ambiance of this book. Red herrings kept me guessing. I liked this book. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and the gifted author. Do not start this book late at night. It is difficult to put down. The images are scary but intriguing. Maggie is terrific.
The body of a young pregnant girl is found among trash. Maggie is convinced that it is the body of a 15 year old runaway. If she never left the area, where has she been? Maggie is forced to hand the case over to the State police.
She now has her hands full after finding a polaroid photo that was left for her of a young local girl that has been beaten. The girl's mother insists that her daughter is staying with her Uncle in another town, and that her daughter is seeking attention, the 'bruises' are actually make up.
No one except Maggie is worried about Cassie.
On top of that, her new Lieutenant, Kal, has started work, and the fact that he is an Indian in a town that is intolerant of any newcomers, is a problem.
Maggie's partner, Steve, is worried that his hidden past has come back to haunt him, and he doesn't want Maggie to find out.
Her estranged mother also makes an appearance, forcing Maggie to realise that her mother will never respect her detecting skills.
The third in a series that I have grown to love. The main characters are fully developed, and Maggie is showing that she is one heck of a detective, with a love for the people that she serves, and a dogged determination to do her job. She runs rings around the State police with her detective skills.
There is so much to unpack in this police procedural, a new character who I think will fit in very well, as he has secrets of his own, and something in his past he is trying to outrun - just like Maggie and Steve!
I just hope Steve's past doesn't affect his relationship with Maggie, I think that they are suited to each other, he loves her, and loves her animals.
Anyone who loves dogs can't be all bad, can they?
I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series, and the disclosure of some of the secrets of the characters!
Well written, tense, and a page turner. What more can a reader want?
I recommend this series to fans of Angela Marsons and Lisa Regan.
