The nanny , Christa, is a great central character with a really interesting backstory that I wanted to know more about and I liked the way we were drip fed little snippets. The setting of a big mansion in Austria makes for an unsettling and claustrophobic backdrop, for an intriguing storyline. What did happen to the previous nanny? After a bit of a slow start, the story speeded up nicely and by the end, my goodness it was twist after twist. In fact, I thought we were done and then Kaboom, another shocker!!

The New Nanny is a phenomenal read. I was hooked from the very beginning and COULD NOT put it down. There was so much to learn as you kept reading to learn more, so many characters had secrets and you don't know who to trust. There's even the case of not being able to trust the narrator which I loved! This one is very difficult to review without giving things away - but know this is undoubtedly a five star read for me.

Character List *spoiler free*

Christa, the new nanny, works for the Mayers. She punishes herself with cold showers, scrubbing her skin raw, and wakes up every day at 5.05 a.m., all to atone for something in the past.

Robin Mayer, Christa's employer, she's very aloof and withdrawn. Suffered a recent loss. She has deep brown eyes like treacle. Her skin is too pale but glossy raven hair, almost ethereal, that cascades around her shoulders, tips highlighted gold.

Paul Mayer, dark gray eyes like steel. Balding, stocky, with a scowl that rarely leaves his face wears. He is Robin's husband and Wyatt's father

Wyatt Mayer, son of Robin and Paul and Christa's charge. He has amber eyes and honey-blond curls. He's a teenager, he's disconnected from his parents, and can’t be himself around them

James, a Handsome stranger, 5 years older than Christa.

Eva – the missing nanny with a lot of secrets

Well well well, I was NOT expecting that, until I was expecting that! A story that doesn't relent and gosh I questioned everyone, even the person it was! I bought the audiobook because I knew I wouldn't have time to sit and read it and I blasted the audiobook almost in one sitting! I was obsessed with this book.

A small setting, almost claustrophobic but in such a gorgeous setting of Austria, we have mysteries to solve so don't get too comfortable! People don't want to talk to you, you aren't allowed to leave the house and someone seems a little too eager to befriend you. What do you do...or think!? Oh, so many things!

I can't wait to read the next part of this series! I know if it is anything like this I am going to be blown away. This book completely threw me the wringer, 110% I was shocked and how dark this book turned and how quickly too! So many threads in the story and some are red herrings and others play a big part!

Oh so much I want to tell you but I really can't. It's a secret ;) You need to read this book. I seriously found this so addictive and so awesome! It is a book that will haunt you until you finish it.

This wasn’t for me - I found it a very slow burn. It felt very similar in tone/plot (women with secret becomes nanny in remote location to family with their own secrets) to Ruth Ware’s The Turn of the Key. Unfortunately, Ware’s version of the book is much better written with more suspense, and due to the similarities I couldn’t help but compare while reading.

When Christa applies for and is accepted for a job nannying for a family with a 14 year old son, she thinks the only secret she needs to worry about is her own. After a few days spent with the Mayers at their home in Austria, she soon starts to realise that this family has a lot of secrets. Why isn't she allowed to visit the town in fear of speaking to the locals? Why does Wyatt seem so anxious when his parents are around? And why is Robyn so protective of her child that she barely spends any time with? Christa will soon find out the answers to all these questions but it won't be the answers she was expecting.

I've started being very strict with myself when handing out a five star review as when I looked back at the books I had given five stars to, there were clearly some books that didn't merit the same rating as others, so I reserve five stars only for books that really captivated me or would make me spiral and want to buy the authors entire library, and this book definitely deserves a five star rating. When I first started this book, it was quite reminiscent of 'The Housemaid', but that feeling soon disapperated a few chapters in. This book perfectly executed the storyline! I find it hard not to foresee the story line and try and figure it out for myself as I do like a surprise and this book had plenty of them! This book made you love characters to then change your opinion only a couple of pages later, it had my jaw dropped and my eyes widen at plot twists I didn't see coming. I'm also extremely happy that there will be a second book to follow this one, which of course I requested from NetGalley instantly! I'm excited to see where this storyline goes next! I might even go as far to say that this is the best thriller I've read this year and I will definitely be purchasing a physical copy!

Wowsers, this was good, in fact it was very good and if book two, The Nanny's Child is anything as good I can't wait to read it.

The plot was clever and narrated from several POV. The twists, they didn't stop...it was bombshell after bombshell followed by plenty of jaw dropping moments that I wasn't expecting! Like how many lies and dark secrets can one family be hiding, the Mayers were pretty despicable weren't they?

It's fast paced, suspenseful and an absolute blinding blend of psychological thrill and family drama.

I read this in a day. I was addicted to know what was going on. Everyone had a secret. The nanny, the parents, the friend. This one drew me in from the start and then kept me as the tension built. Who could Christa trust? What is she hiding? Who could I trust? I love that this one takes place in Austria and there was slight language barrier at times.

I don’t want to say too much and I seriously think you should just choose to read this one knowing it is a psychological thriller about a nanny and a family and run with it. There was a heck of a twist I did not see coming in addition to a bunch of small reveals that added to me liking the read. I think all this could easily be spoiled.

Christa’s son was taken away from her when she was just seventeen, but now she has found him as a teenager; She soon becomes the Mayers family Nanny, but things aren’t what they seem and a bigger secret is hidden.

This was a fantastic read with twists I didn’t see coming which left me with my jaw open. This novel is set in Austria filled with characters whom we don't know who to trust.

I love how Davis writes this novel easy to read and one you won’t be able to put down.

This was a great thriller! I didn't see the ending coming and it moves at a fast pace. The characters were interesting and I was invested in the story. Overall, I enjoyed this book! Special Thank You to L.G. Davis, Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

First, I want to thank L.G. Davis, Bookouture and NetGalley for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.

O.M.G!! The New Nanny is one of L.G. Davis’s most twisted, suspenseful, full of deep dark secrets with explosive revelations, nail biting jaw dropping moments, and totally addicting from the first page! This is my favorite book that LG has written. OH and I am super excited that she has a sequel to The New Nanny as I didn’t want this book to end!! Ohh it was so good!!

I loved how LG transports her readers to Austria where her story takes place. We got to experience the sights through the eyes of the characters without even leaving our comfy chair.

The New Nanny had a very unique cast filled with very mysterious characters with deep dark twisted secrets. When they come out oh boy your jaw will hit the floor! They are juicy!!

I couldn’t quite understand why teenage Wyatt would need a nanny. However, I loved the special bond that they were forming.

Ohh how I would love to see a screen adaptation of The New Nanny on Netflix one day!! This book is a hit. I couldn't imagine what it would be like on the small screen!!

The new nanny by LG Davis.
The lies we tell book 1.
Christa does everything she can to get the Mayers to think she's the perfect person to be the nanny for their son Wyatt. They don't know Christa has a dark secret. But she doesn't know what happened to the last nanny.
This was a really good read. I didn't know how I felt about Christa Robin Paul or Wyatt. I did like them but I didn't hate them. Twisty I didn’t see that coming. I'm looking forward to the next book. 5*.

I've read a few books by L.G. Davis before and that's why I was really happy to have received both books from Bookouture via Netgalley. The New Nanny is book one in the Lies We Tell series. Just like book 2 it came out today!

We follow Christa who is the new nanny for a family of which she believes the son is actually hers. She had to give up son a long time ago and the last few years she has been looking for him. Now she thinks she has found him and that's why she becomes the new nanny. Now she can raise him like her own son. But dark secrets come to light and not all is what it seems. Like, what happened to the previous nanny? Will she be safe or will they be safe?

This was an utterly enjoyable book and I was really happy that there was a book too as well. The writing has been done so well that it just flows from the pages. You are drawn into the story immediately from the very first page onwards. You get to know the characters quite well and especially Christa is interesting to get to know. This domestic thriller is fast paced and quite action-packed as well. It was never a dull moment when reading this awesome book.

This is an absolute recommendation. Tomorrow I'll post a review about book two called The Nanny's Child.

5/5⭐

This story was packed with so many twists and turns. I was addicted to this fast-paced novel and devoured it in one sitting. Chista takes a job as a nanny/housekeeper for a wealthy family who has many dark secrets to hide. It is better to go into this blind, so I don’t want to give away too much. I will definitely be reading the sequel.

Christa, 33, has taken a job for the summer working for Robin and Paul Mayer at their palatial villa in Ruddel outside Salzburg, Austria. Paul is the head of the family’s business there. His mother is dying so they have decided to be close to her in her last days. Their home is in the U.S.

Christa is to act as a sort of nanny for Wyatt, age 15, along with doing the cleaning and cooking for the family. It’s a lot of work but she is happy to be there. Robin recently lost a baby and has been very depressed. Paul is cool and aloof to Christa. It’s Wyatt that Christa worries about because he has little connection with his parents and they with him. He is not allowed of the house and Robin won’t even let Christa take him into town. But soon, Christa and Wyatt have chats and play games together with a friendship and trust growing between them.

When Christa learns that something may have happened to a previous nanny, she becomes afraid. That, in addition to finding a note in her bag when she arrived saying “Be Careful” in German has her quite nervous.

This book only becomes more and more scary as I read along. The ending is very tense and compelling. I must say that this author’s style of writing keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Enjoy!

The book is a slow burn. Very slow. Although parts were intriguing, it was too slow for me. Had to DNF this book. I’ve seen reviews were the plot is good and the ending but why would I read 80% of the boring parts for only 20% of something actually maybe good…

Lately I notice so many books release with Nanny titles on it. A New Nanny  maybe join to the trope late but I thought it still had it's own unique qualities. The story following a eager woman, Christa  to starting her daily job as housekeeping/Nanny for Mayer family. Her new employer live at beautiful remote Austria Villa far away from society.
Christa knew everything was too good to be true until the couple started gave her extra job for tutor and council their stepson Wyatt. They also gave alot suspicious for both of them.

The writing was okay, it is clear and easy to follow what's happening inside or outside Christa's mind. The plot it self kinda loose and slower at begining. Some of twist and mystery revealing is predictable but still enjoyable to read until the end.

The characters sadly less flesh out for me and I found difficulties to connect with them. Some banters sounds cliche and unrealistic. The ending felt rush but leave us with lot more question about Wyatt.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for provided me with this ebook. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Christa takes on a job as a nanny/ housekeeper for the Mayer family in Austria, why? Because she is the biological mother of their son and she’s spent her whole life trying to find him. Now that she’s found him she wants to be close to him and keep him safe. But what kind of secrets are they hiding? The parents barely let Wyatt out of the house, and never mind doing anything unsupervised. And what happened to their last nanny?

This book was an easy read and I devoured it in one day, however, the plot wasn’t all that for me. It takes a long time for us to learn Christa is Wyatt’s mother, even though that is told to us in the synopsis. It seems like there are a few small inconsistencies that bugged me throughout. Finding out what happened to the past nanny is a top priority, then the story goes off the rails with who the family truly is. I liked the writing but wasn’t a fan of the overall feel.

The new nanny

This book started out so strong and was giving me Frieda McFadden the housemaid vibes but better vibes. I loved that the chapters were short and that we got right into the action from the beginning. The writing style was easy to get on board with and it didn’t feel like we were being told information that was irrelevant.

However, I didn’t care about the relationship that appeared almost instantaneously between Christa and James. It felt a bit like this was being added for no reason and in my opinion they didn’t need to be falling in love for the story to work, they could have just remained as friends throughout.

Between chapter 24 and 25 there is a gap in time that’s not accounted for - James has no reaction to her leaving his house and going to his sisters? He went to the kitchen and she went from a bedroom to being at the sisters down the road in that time? It just didn’t add up.

The last couple of chapters felt a little bit like an add on but I understand why they were there as it sets it up for the next book in the series.

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the eARC! L.G Davis is becoming one of my favorite thriller authors! The New Nanny grabbed my attention right away and the twists held my interest throughout the book. Some of the twists were predictable, but it didn't ruin the story for me. Highly recommend for those who enjoy family drama/ thrillers. I will post my review on my bookstagram account- @bookofthemeg on publish day!
