Synopsis (from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
*********************************************************
A forged reference and a fake social media page are all it takes to convince the Mayers I’m the perfect person to look after their son Wyatt. Some people would be scared to move to a remote mountain village with a family they’ve never met, but it’s exactly where I need to be. Because Wyatt is my child…
My sweet little boy was taken from me. There are dark secrets in my past that will stop me from ever getting Wyatt back, but now I’m his nanny, I’ll finally get to raise him like he’s my own.
When I arrive at the Mayers’ house, I’m stunned by the striking glass family home and Robin and Paul’s lavish lifestyle, which I couldn’t afford in my wildest dreams. But Wyatt seems troubled. Robin claims he needs therapy, she says he barely speaks to her, and soon I realize that he’s rarely allowed to leave the house…
When Wyatt gives me a shy smile and begins to open up, it’s clear he needed me just as much as I needed him. We’re making up for the time we lost with long afternoons playing games and baking apple pie. Everything finally seems perfect in my life. Until I find out what happened to his last nanny…
This is the first of two books that come out the same day in the series The Lies We Tell and it will make you question exactly who you have looking after your children! (Or whose children you are caring for.) The story is delightfully twisty as you wonder what could possibly be going on and what will happen next…this nanny is a therapist, chef, housekeeper and detective rolled into one deceptive yet detective parcel. 77% of the way in you’ll lose your mind… what else could possibly happen? You would be surprised.
Perfect for fans of thriller books, I will recommend this and its sequel to my patrons without reservation.

ADDICTIVE!!Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for granting me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
WOW!! What a fabulous and emotionally twisted psychological thriller that held me hostage to the very end!! This is the first book I have read by L.G. Davis and it did not disappoint! The suspense, tension, pacing, action, secrets, lies, betrayal, short chapters, shocking ending and unexpected twists and turns is what makes this an EXCEPTIONAL thriller! I was hooked from the very beginning and could not stop reading! I absolutely loved it so much ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️!!!!
This book is better to go into blind so I am not going to say too much. All you need to know is its a story about Christa, who takes a job as a nanny/housekeeper for a well known wealthy family. Quickly, she learns that this is no normal family by any means! Who can she trust? How far will people go to protect the family or those they love?
Overall, I was completely immersed from start to finish! If you are looking for a gripping thriller that is a page turner then this is the book for you! I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book and it deserves ALL the stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you for the advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
This is a story about Christa, is the new Nanny for Wyatt the 15 year son to Robin and Paul Mayer. She is to get to know and understand Wyatt And find out why he doesn’t really speak with his parents, his adoptive parents.
Christa meets a man named James in the town that she befriends and starts having feelings for him, when she tells him that Wyatt is her son. Then she finds out that James was about to marry the previous Nanny Who seems to have gone missing. What happened to her? You’ll have to read it to find out
I really enjoyed reading this book! I think there will be a 2nd book with Christa as her story was still open!
There were some twists and surprises in the story!
Thank you Net Galley for allowing me to read and review this book!
5☆ A Gripping and Twisty Thriller
Wow what a book!
Reading the Blurb you think you know what your about to read. To an extent you do.
But then the lil snippets that something isn't right, the secrets start to emerge, the twists come and catch you off guard. Who do you trust, is what your reading the truth, and when it gets to about half way through the tension ramps up even more!
It was such a gritty, at times tense, yet very gripping read, I devoured it in 2 nights. Something I've not done in ages.
There are some sensitive subjects within the book, miscarriage, adoption, but they are relevant to the story, but may be a trigger for some readers.
There is a book 2 and although it ends on sort of cliffhanger it does sum up the first book. But it definitely leaves you wanting more!
I'm super excited to dive straight in. It's already on my kindle waiting!
Why did I not know about L.G. Davis before now??? This book was awesome! And I'm so excited there's a book #2! I could not put this book down; it kept me gripped from start to finish. There are plenty of twists and turns, and everyone has secrets. And the main character Christa - it was so easy to get lost in her life, sometimes comfortably and other times with my heart pounding. There are odd occurrences, likable but suspect people, others who are potentially dangerous, a few warnings, some bombshells, plenty of feelings - good and bad. I also appreciated Davis's scenery description - not just visually, but scents, sounds, vibes and food with its taste, texture and aroma. Excellent book! Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC.
Page-turner alert!
The synopsis lets us know that Christa is looking for her son, Wyatt. She got pregnant with him as a teenager, and gave him up for adoption. She’s been searching for him for years, and with social media, she found him. Better still, his adoptive parents are looking for a nanny/housekeeper for a summer in Austria.
Paul and Robin adopted Wyatt, but years later, Robin suffered a miscarriage of the biological child they didn’t know they could have. They’ve come from the United States to Austria to help Paul’s mother, who is dying, and Robin is such a mess that she needs help with watching Wyatt - despite him being fifteen.
With a fudged resume, Christa gets the job and heads to Austria to be with her son. She soon notices that the bright, funny boy she’s getting to know is terrified of his adoptive parents. She also realizes he isn’t allowed out of the house, and that it’s highly discouraged for her to leave as well. The town is small, and there are rumors - rumors that Robin prefer Christa not here.
Despite that, Christa does occasionally venture into town, where she meets James - a German teacher. Using Paul and Robin’s desire for Wyatt to learn the language, Christa finally has a way to get him out of the house a couple times a week. She also starts a little romance with James in the process. She tells him the truth about her being Wyatt’s biological mother, and he tells her what the rumors are about…
This was completely implausible, but I wouldn’t put it in the popcorn thriller category. Despite the implausibility, this was quite suspenseful. I knew that I had figured out the ending about halfway through, but it was only a fragment of the ending that I guessed. The final chapters were full of twists and turns, lots of reveals, and a conclusion for the characters. This looks like the first of a series, and I’ll be sure to check out the next one. Overall, this was quite well done - four stars!
(Thank you to Bookouture, L.G. Davis, and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book is slated to be released on September 11, 2023.)
The story begins with Christa, offers to work for Myer family as housekeeper and nanny for their their 15-year-old adoptive son Wyatt.Robin and Paul appear to have it all—a beautiful home, successful careers, and a loving relationship. However, behind closed doors, their family is far from ideal. As the narrative unfolds, Christa discovers shocking secrets about her employees, leading her down a dark path of deception and betrayal.
Through alternating perspectives, we gain insight into the thoughts and emotions of both Christa and Wyatt, deepening our understanding of their complex dynamic.
One of the standout elements of this book is the well-developed characters. Christa, the protagonist, is relatable and sympathetic, making it easy for readers to invest in her journey. Though flawed, Wyatt is also an intriguing character, shrouded in mystery, leaving readers guessing about his true intentions until the very end.
OMG, this book held me captive to the very end. Christa comes from the US to Austria to be a nanny to 15 year oldWyatt, as well as housekeeper, cook, errand runner, etc. We learn from the beginning that the family dynamics are very strange in that the parents barely speak to Wyatt and he seems very ill at ease when they are around. Christa meets James at a store and he quicklyt persues her. Everyone seems to have secrets they are hiding from each other and I did not trust any of them. This book has a lot of twists and turns with a surprise ending. I am looking forward to the second book in this series.
Thank you NetGally and Bookouture for the ARC of this fantastic read that I could not put down.
This books gives a glimpse inside to what a mother would do for her child regardless of the barriers. I could not put this book down and already onto part two. You all not regret reading this book.
This book was fine for a quick thriller, not terrible, not great. I thought there was a lot of build up to the end but it felt kind of rushed, and I wish there had been more explanation of things. The writing style was simple which made for an easy read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
4 stars rounded up.

I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller, it had twists, turns and was very much fast paced. Some things were predictable but I still had some surprises!
Freida mcfadden fans I think would really enjoy this, as it reminded me of her writing style:)
There's secrets that the nanny, family and new friend are keeping, but who killed the old nanny is the question?!
My first for this author and looking forward to starting the sequel to this tonight!
It was a fast read which I love! I have to say that the ending was my favorite part of the book. It had twists I didn’t see coming.
This book I was able to get an ARC of thanks to NetGalley- release date: Sep 11, 2023
The only thing I knew about this book going into it was that a new nanny arrives to nanny for the Meyers family after their first nanny went missing several years ago. The first 40% of this book reminded me a lot of Freida McFaddens book the housemaid. Crista (the new nanny) holds onto a secret that are trying to discover for about 60% of the book- which I thought was good. There are subtle hints that something about this family is off throughout the book which also keeps you guessing what it could be. (no keys to lock/unlock doors, cameras everywhere, not letting Christa or Wyatt go into town to interact with the locals). With the authors writing you feel like you intimately know the characters and begin rooting for/against certain ones. The ending is suspenseful, and I believe will be surprising to a lot of the readers. (the last 20% I couldn't put down because I needed to know how it was going to end). Honestly- I was shocked at the very end which is hard to do for me.
If you liked the Housemaid by McFadden you would enjoy this- but you may find it really similar in some ways too.
This started a bit slow but once you get about half way through it really picked up! Christa did not tell the complete truth to get her new nanny job in Austria, but she was in for a surprise. Christa moves to Austria to help care for 15 year old Wyatt, whose parents really don’t want anything to do with him. The Mayers have secrets, Christa has secrets. Everyone has secrets. I didn’t see the twists coming and loved the end.
What a story! Full of twists and turns that you do not see coming. Based on an au pair going to work with a family who seem totally disinterested in their son, and she’s receiving warnings to try and make her see through the family. Would read again.
my first book from this author and so enjoyed. A very addictive and twist read. Christa takes a nanny job to the Mayer family. Looking after there 15-year-old boy. Wyatt and household duties to. his mum Robin can't get him to communicate. With her and her husband. Paul. Christa finds. That they Hardley have anything to do with their son, and on her day of arrival she finds a note in her bag warning her. And then Christa finds out the last nanny disappeared. And Robin won't let them mix with the locals. everyone in this book has secrets a very. Creepy and addictive read so recommend.
This is a really nice thriller! I love thrillers about a nanny or babysitter. This book has very nice twists, especially the ending. The last chapter also makes you wonder what will happen, I saw there's a second book to this series, can't wait to read it! And i'll definitely check out other books by this author :)
Wow, such a sensational story full of many twists and turns. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat! I couldn't put this book down! The Missing Widow was my favorite of Davis' books but this book just bumped it to 2nd.
L.G. Davis does an incredible job with her story telling. She's very clever and did a remarkable job describing the scenario and characters.
Davis had so many different twists she had my head spinning. Everytime I thought she was done, she threw in another for good measure. Outstanding job! I absolutely loved this story! I can't wait to start on book 2!!
Christa, a nanny, is hired to help a new family and care for their son Wyatt. Soon it becomes clear that Wyatt is troubled and the family are possibly more dangerous than they first appear. Finally she learns she wasn’t the first nanny…
This was an enjoyable read which becomes fairly fast paced and has an interesting plot. I enjoyed the twisty narrative and constant guessing at where the story was going. I did predict most of the twists so there were no massive surprises for me but this didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment. I think that the blurb possibly gives too much away.
Some of Christa’s actions annoyed me a bit but the characters are written well. The ending is quite sudden but I’m pleased to see there is a second book in this series which should hopefully wrap it up nicely. Overall a good read. 3.5 stars. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for this copy in return for an honest review.
