Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
Oh dear, this book was really interesting !!! I didn't see the twists coming at all. I was shocked at the end. There's no time in the book to get bored. Even if I was a little sad for her, I am happy for how it turned out for her. I'm really impatient to read the next one.
I very much enjoyed this book and this led to me requesting the sequel. Good to discover a new author. Thanks Netgalley for the early copy of this book.
Christa's baby was taken away from her when she was a teenager, deemed to be unfit to be a proper mother. It takes her years to track down her baby. But it only takes a forged reference and a fake social media page to convince his new seemingly perfect family that should would be the perfect person to watch their son.
Of course, nothing is perfect, and as she gets to know this family, things get more and more disturbing. This was a marvelous read that had me up late, surprised at all the twists and turns. I thought I had figured it out a few times, but nope. Excellent read!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!
Slow start, but once you get about 40% through the book you won’t be able to put it down! “People say that revenge is a dish best served cold, but I prefer to serve mine piping hot.” Christa may not have told the complete truth to get her new nanny job in Austria, but was it worth all of the lies?
Christa moves to Austria to help care for 15 year old Wyatt, whose parents really don’t want anything to do with him. The Mayers have secrets, Christa has secrets, Wyatt even has secrets.
The ending of this book had a twist I did NOT see coming. I can’t wait to read the second book! Thank you to NetGalley for giving me this ARC opportunity!
*****I received this ARC free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very enjoyable thriller. It is all about a mother and what lengths she will go to in order to locate her missing child. Tracking down a possible adoptive family and unraveling a 7 year old mystery.
I really enjoyed this fast paced thriller. Crista joins a family abroad to be their nanny to their 15 year old son. Throughout the book I find this so bizarre, why a family would get a nanny for a teenager, yet I still didn’t see the twists coming. The parents are very hands off and ignore their poor son. He’s not even allowed to leave the house. Crista, who is secretly his biological mother, is determined to do anything she can to take him away from this cold and unloving household.
There are so many twists and turns throughout this book. I was never sure who to trust. I don’t know why the book description includes how Crista is really the biological mother. We don’t learn this until almost half way through the book so it could be another great twist. I wish we got more of Paul and Robyn’s stories, but I’m excited for the next book in this series.
I love LG. Davis, so I was thrilled to receive an ARC of The New Nanny. This review is for both the first and second book in the Lies We Tell Series. I read a lot of psychological thrillers, so it takes a lot for me to be completely surprised. However, both of the books kept me guessing and saying "wow!" I am so glad the author chose to make this in to 2 books instead of rushing the plot and cramming it all in to one novel. I cannot say enogh good things and will be telling everyone to check out these two books!
I thought I knew where this story was going to go, but I was mistaken. It was so good I read it in one sitting.
I’m always intrigued where there’s a nanny involved in a story as that’s my job too. Christa takes a job under false pretences and manages to work her way into the life of Wyatt and his parents. However as we find out, everything is not always as it seems.
The twists and turns in the second half of the story are well worth waiting for. Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a copy.
A forged reference and a fake social media page is all Christa needs to convince the Mayer family that she’d be the perfect nanny for their son, Wyatt. It seems like the perfect way for Christa to be back with her son, until she finds out what happened to the last nanny…
This was such a quick read! I thought all of the characters were interesting, although I was suspicious of them all. I thought the inclusion of the diary entries were a great way to get to know Robin more and provide a different perspective to the story. It had such an eery and suspenseful atmosphere, which captures the nature of the book excellently.
There are some quite big time jumps towards the end. I didn’t particularly mind them but it did feel like an attempt to wrap up the story quicker. There were some things that didn’t quite make sense to me though. I would have loved for the postpartum depression to be explored more.
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the opportunity to read this book!
⚠️ CWs: miscarriage, grief, postpartum depression, vomiting, gun use, derogatory language, panic attack; mentions death, car accident, cancer, cheating ⚠️
You’ve traveled all the way to Austria to be a nanny/housekeeper for a well known wealthy family. Their son is your son. The last thing you expected were so many dark secrets to come to light….
Love Frieda McFadden books? Then be sure to add this book to your TBR. Once I started reading I was instantly invested in the story. The building tension and suspense is so addicting. I loved the eerie vibes and sense of danger throughout the book. There are twists and turns and it definitely had my heart racing. I loved the journal entries which added another layer of suspense and shock.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Bookouture for the gifted
This book was completely UNPUTDOWNABLE! It had me HOOKED from the very first chapter, which is rare, in my opinion.
Christa is 15 year old Wyatt’s new live-in nanny. She travels to a foreign country, to take on the position offered by Robin and Paul Mayers. Christa senses that things just aren’t what they seem to be with the Mayers. Why don’t Wyatt’s parents spend any time with their son and why does Wyatt clam up and seem terrified of them?
Christa eventually finds out that 8 years ago, their former nanny, Eva went missing and was never found. The towns people suspect that Robin and Paul are responsible for her disappearance, including her new friend, James. As Christa and Wyatt grow closer, her secrets are revealed and more puzzle pieces fall into place. Will James and Christa be able to prove that the Mayers are responsible for the missing nanny? What secrets are they hiding?
I really enjoyed this excellent read, it kept me on the edge of my seat! Thank you to NetGalley, L.G. Davis and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book! I will definitely be adding the author to my favorite’s list!
I don’t usually read books in a series but thought I’d give this one a shot and I’m glad I did! I really enjoyed it. I am not sure if the second book is a sequel to this one or if it’s a totally new story with the same characters but I’ll definitely be reading it. The New Nanny had some twists and turns I wasn’t expecting but there were some predictable moments too.
Wasn't sure what to expect but this was a very good thriller. Lots of twists and turns and I actually liked the characters. Thank you for the ARC.
When Christa accepts a job in a small village in Austria caring for a teenage boy Wyatt she expects the job to be pretty simple, after all she did her best to get to that position. But on arrival she senses all is not well, Wyatt doesn't speak to his parents and they barely respond to him. And when Christa ventures into the village the locals seem very distruftful of the family. And then she hears the rumours of what happened to the last Nanny. Does she flee or stay for Wyatt's sake.
I really enjoyed this novel, it was tense and twisted. Just when I suspected where it was going the author changed direction. I, like the villagers, didn't know who to trust. A sure sign of a great book
You know the saying 'you had me at hello'? I don't know if it can be applied to books too, but that's the felling I have each time I see a book by this author. The title and the cover win me over again and again and I want to get to know this book better. :)
From the very beginning you feel unease. All characters are acting strange and you just want to know their secrets. You want to dissect their minds and unravel every hidden bit of information they store.
What do you do as a reader? You pick sides. That's only natural and the author cleverly guides you in the direction they want you to go.
You feel pity for some and you loathe others. The question is did you pick the right person to support?
Are you like a nice little lamb and do you follow the leads or do you try to look deeper and make up your own mind?
A shocking revelation? Check, but the author obviously thought one was not enough...
I loved this story and I flew through the pages. I am so glad the author decided to start a series. I cannot wait to read the next book. 5 stars
Thank you
I absolutely love L. G Davis so I was so excited to read The New Nanny, I was hooked the minute I started it, the book was full of suspense and I can't wait to start book 2.
This one took me way longer to read than I would have liked but life got in the way. Otherwise I would have devoured it in one sitting! While I will say this one did take a little bit of time to pick up speed I wasn’t bored by any means. Davis did a good job with setting the story up in a way that left you wanting more. Just when I thought I had things all figured out I would be completely wrong but in the best of ways.
I’ll be honest I usually bounce around with what I read & very rarely do I read series back to back but let me tell you, I enjoyed this book so much I’ve immediately moved the second book to the top of my list. While this book doesn’t stop on a crazy cliff hanger, I like the characters so much that I just NEED to know what happens next.
I’ve seen other people refer to Davis’ writing to be a lot like Freida Mcfadden & they’re definitely right. So if you enjoy books with lots of twists that keep you guessing this one is for you!
A huge thanks to NetGalley & Bookouture for an ARC of this title in exchange for an honest review.
I went into this book blindly. I'd obviously read the blurb at some point, but had forgotten what it was about. The storyline kept me enthralled and I ended up finishing the book in a couple of hours because I just had to know what happened. Along the way I developed some theories that changed a bit as I was reading, but the final outcome was different again and it’s really nice to not actually know what is going to happen. Robin and Paul, the parents, are just weird and James and Wyatt were a bit suspicious, but Christa, the nanny, was my favourite character.. I see that this is the first book in a series and I will definitely be looking out for more to follow.
I was glued to my Kindle and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I can't wait to the second book! I’m always a fan of thrillers with nanny’s or housemaid’s.
Another domestic thriller/suspense about a nanny? Count me in! I think this is the third I've read this year alone. "The New Nanny" by L.G. Davis is an intriguing thriller with plenty of lies and secrets. The plot was so fast paced, and the twists, although predictable, all kept me hooked. I didn't care too much about the characters with no one you could call likable, but I still enjoyed the book and loved the mysterious atmosphere. The fast-paced plot kept me hooked, although some twists were predictable and others far-fetched. The characters weren't very likable, but I enjoyed the mysterious atmosphere. I look forward to exploring more books by this author. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
