Lola learns her husband, Evan is cheating on her. She confronts him, and like every story goes, he promises he'll stop. But he doesn't. So she writes in her secret journal and makes plans to leave with their daughter, Jessica. Then tragedy strikes the Warner family and Lola dies. It's ruled an accident, but Evan and Jessica know the truth – Lola was killed. The Wife in the Photo follows the point of views of all three family members (through “present day” as well as past journal entries) and include the views of Ariel, the housekeeper Evan hires to pick up the slack left behind by Lola's death. Ariel's not really Ariel though, and the twists only start there. She's there to prove that Lola's death wasn't just an accident and that what she knows – Evan killed her – is the truth. Only she's wrong and it leads to murder.
The Wife in the Photo was a quick enjoyable read for me. I figured out a couple of the twists early on, but still found myself surprised by the actual ending. This was a first of Emily Shiner's books for me, but if this one is any indication of her writing, I'll definitely be reading more!
I wanted to like this book, I really did but I have high hopes for Emily Shiner based on her previous books and this one fell a little flat for me.
The characters of Ariel and Evan were great but the daughter Jessica was very one dimensional and wasn't developed enough, I wanted to see more from this character as the book progressed but the development of Evan and Ariel drew your attention away and clouded the readers.
I also didn't like the way the last section of the book played out, there could've been something more here and instead we have a gruesome death that makes the book into a horror story instead of a thriller
This is a fast paced and intriguing thriller that drew me in quickly. I raced through the book and the ending took me by complete surprise.
It’s a great domestic thriller and one that I’d definitely recommend.
Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for this advance copy in exchange for my review.
This was my first read by Emily and I thought it was really good!
I loved the short chapters and they always ended with just enough of what's next to keep you hooked.
I really enjoyed the three POVs that the story is told from.
The ending was great and the twist was the perfect amount of disturbing.
This was my first Emily Shiner novel, and certainly wont be my last. I flew through this! I was so excited to receive an ARC of this fun, fast-paced thriller. The chapters are short and end on cliff hangers which is sure to keep you engaged throughout.
I found the second half of this plot hard to believe and a bit cheesy but overall I had a lot of fun with this one! 3.5 stars!
This book hooked me from the first page. You just have to find out what happened to Lola. Jessica and her father seem like they are both hiding secrets. I loved the ending wasn't expecting it at all! Loved the writing style and the atmosphere of this book. You will be guessing who done it alot and probably be surprised by the ending. I will definitely be reading more by Emily Shiner that's for sure.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you to the author and publisher for this advanced copy. I enjoyed this thriller. It was entertaining and had some twists that kept you reading.
Lola, was pushed down the stairs and the new housemaid suspects the husband, who is chief of police is guilty. She takes on the job to dig deeper into what happened to Lola but then it gets all twisty in the events the follow. A good, read that will keep you turning pages to see what twist comes next.
Lola falls to her death leaving a husband and teenage daughter behind. Lola found out her husband has been cheating with a very young lady. He refuses to go to counseling so Lola decides to leave. Lola plans to take her daughter, Jessica, and move in with her sister. Before this can happen she falls to her death. Her widow wee, Evan, decides to hire a housekeeper to help out. But his gut tells him not to do it. Hidden secrets will be exposed in this riveting thriller.
This was an intriguing, fast-paced thriller with a disturbing twist. This book is narrated from the perspectives of three main characters, all with different motivations. It was good I won't say it was a waste of my time, but I don't feel as if it's a book ill buy for a physical copy when it comes out. To each their own.
The Wife in the Photo by Emily Shiner is a totally twisty psychological thriller guaranteed to keep you up all night.
Oh my, who is responsible, and what is happening!? You never really know until the shocking end.
Ariel is a mystery, and Evan is a creep. One particular reveal is a shocker, and the ending is a good twist.
I enjoyed this story and the author's writing style. I will read more by this author.

I'd like to thank Bookouture, Emily Shiner, and NetGalley for an advanced copy for an honest review.
Lola has just died, leaving behind her husband, Evan and daughter, Jessica. Evan is feeling the pressure and decides to get some help around the house. Being the chief of police and a father are weighing him down. Here enters Ariel, someone trying to get close to them to get to the truth.
As Ariel gets employed, she works hard to earn the trust of Evan and Jessica both. They both act suspicious at times. I did enjoy the guessing game part. Unfortunately, the end just got a bit ridiculous. I rate this one 2.5 rounded up to 3 stars
The Wife in the Photo was a fast and fun psychological thriller. Short chapters, multiple POVs, and a twist ending made this book extremely enjoyable. I quite literally could not put it down and finished it in one sitting!
My only gripe is that most of the novel's characters failed to achieve any real depth; I felt as though they fell a little flat and didn’t reach their full potential.
Nonetheless, it was a thrilling read and I recommend it. This was my first Emily Shiner novel and it is safe to say that I am very excited to read more of her books!
Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Last year I read my first book by this author and I was wowed. Now, after having devoured my second one, I am wowed again.
The prologue ended with a bang and from then on I was lost, lost in the story that picked me up and dragged me along like a white water river with a few waterfalls along the way. Superb!
Lola died... but how? An accident or did someone give her a little hand? Ariel is determined to find out and to takes matters in her own hand if she has to.
Who to believe here? Who is telling the truth about what went on?
I really had a fun but hard time figuring that out. I had put my money on someone, but of course when the story went further I had to change the name and I was giving myself a face palm. How could I have been so trusting. Tssk LOL.
I thought then I was finally on the right track, but was I...?
I was hooked and shocked and I loved every minute of it. I am looking forward to the next book by her hand and I don't have to wait for a long time. It's the next on my list. :) 5 of the biggest stars possible.
Thank you
A good thriller. This one I figured out early on. I got thrown off 3/4 of the way in but I ended up still right. The book focuses around Lola, wife of Evan and mother of Jessica, who ends up dying from a "Fall" down stairs. And it's ruled an accident. Evan is Chief of police. Jessica and Evan need a little help at home since Lola was gone so he hires a person, Ariel, to cook etc. He gets her information from his secretary Miriam. Ariel has her suspicion about everything that went down with Lola and vows to get Evan in the end. Few twists in the book but was nothing huge. I would recommend it because it has a way of keeping you turning the pages.
Thanks NetGalley and the publisher for the advance ecopy.
The Wife in the Photo is fast-paced, twisty and suspenseful. The different characters all appear deceptive from page one. Each chapter ends with a hint of deception or mini cliff hanger.
Evan and Lola appeared happily married, but were they? After Lola dies , Evan and daughter Jessica desperately need help with cooking, cleaning and staying organized. They hire a housekeeper that appears to know more about them than they think. Her motives and reasons for being hired are unclear.
Infidelity is a plot point. I should have suspected this from the title and description. It is a plot point I am seeing a lot of that I just don’t enjoy reading about. This is what kept the book from being a fantastic book.
The twists were excellent. A unexpected villain it’s always a great surprise. Recommend to readers who enjoy twisty fast paced books that don’t mind a plot point that involves cheating.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book is insanity.
You don’t know if you should trust Jessica or Evan.
The twists keep coming. Once, you’ve gotten it figured out. There’s something new happening. I felt it was a little slow at times but overall, a good read.
This was the first time I have ever read a book by Emily Shiner. I really enjoyed it! It was a binge worthy book that I was immediately drawn into.
The characters and the story worked for me- I liked the pace and the premise of the book. The ending had a nice twist that I didn’t predict. I would recommend this book to other thriller readers. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
*thank you to netgalley and bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this prior to the release date, all reviews are 100% honest and my own opinion*

if you’re looking for a past paced thriller with some plot twists along the way, then this book is for you. it’s a book you don’t want to put down, and makes you question every single person and their connection.
two things though:
firstly, the ending felt rushed. it went from 0-100 so quick and so many things happened, it didn’t seem right. i think the ending was too dramatic for me, too much went on in too short of a time.
secondly, i’m so confused why the title is what it is, it has no real connection to the plot?
both these points seem to be in almost every review so far, so it’s not just me!
overall though i’d still recommend giving this a read, as everything is subjective. it’s still a fun, quick paced read.
❔are there any books titles that confused you?
The Wife in the Photo by Emily Shiner was a slow peace thriller with some good twists. This will be a book for readers who likes detailed descriptions of everything starting with characters and ending with any situation. I am losing my attention when there is too much description.
One more confusion - I didn't understand why the book is called The Wife in the Photo.
liked the idea of twists but I guessed it already halfway through. Even though it didn't spoil the ending, I still enjoyed how Emily Shiner twisted things together.
Thanks, NetGalley and Bookouture for an advance copy. Even though it's just 3 stars from me this time, I still enjoyed this book!

This was such a great read!
I absolutely loved this book & did not see the plot twist and it actually had me gasping.
Everything was written great, I had no character confusion and it all flowed well.
The cover is perfect representation of the house mentioned in the book aswell.
I will definitely be recommending this to all my thriller lovers and I can’t wait to read more of this author!
Well done!
