I really wanted to like this book but it was a little slow. While something happens in the first chapter it takes about 34% for the book to finally start picking up, even then the engrossing chapters were ones where the killer was going to kill someone.

While there were a lot of choices for who the murderer is it is super obvious the whole time, (this coming from someone who can’t usually pick up the killer). It didn’t make it bad, just not as exciting as it could’ve been. Then when it seemed like there would be a twist, there wasn’t. I am actually glad for that case though because it wouldn’t have made sense.

Madison herself is also a super bland character. She doesn’t really do anything that makes her stand out or seem interesting. I thought she was flat as a character and I didn’t really feel anything enough for her to care if she lived or not. I also think she’s kind of dumb. She gets ideas for who the killer can be and instead of being subtle she straight out asks, just some of the choices she makes too.

And for anyone reading this don’t forget that this is just my opinion! Just because I didn’t enjoy it doesn’t mean you won’t. I truly wish the author the best in his debut!

If you love old school slasher films, this is the book for you! Literally from the first chapter, I was hooked. I finished this book in 24 hours. Madison is “one badass chica” and fights until the very end, regardless of the losses she has suffered. I do have questions about the motive behind a couple of the murders, other than it just being people Madison was involved with. But other than that, this book was great.

*ARC Review*

This slasher film like book will have you on the edge of your seat! It’s gripping, and easy to get lost in the storyline.

For fans of the movie “Scream” this is definitely for you!
The ending was a big predictable, and I didn’t find it was a super complex plot line.. but was a super fun read!

Coming in at under 300 pages, this novel is perfect if you’re looking for a spooky, quick read!

Madison was a fantastic FMC, and her friends were spunky and hilarious. Even while all fighting off a murderer.
I found the novel to be well put together, no major plot holes, and all in all a really great debut novel for Brian!

Thanks NetGalley and Brian Dearborn for the copy of this book.

This is a super fast, fun read. Last night I planned to sit down and read a few pages and ended up reading the entire book

As Madison is grieving the death of her father and the breakup with her long term boyfriend, she learns one of her best childhood friends was brutally murdered. Soon others in Madison's life, friends and co-workers, seem to be targets of the same killer. As the killer closes in on Madison's tight circle of friends, she must look into her past track down the killer before she becomes his next victim.

The second half of this book really reminded me of the great slasher films of the 1980s. I found myself rolling my eyes and screaming at the characters for their ridiculously dumb decisions when knowing there was a killer on the loose. And I mean that is a fantastically fun way! This books is high on entertainment and brought back some good memories from my childhood...when I watched slasher films not when I was being chased by a serial killer!

High recommendation for those who love thrillers and slasher films. This would also be a great books to get out of a reading slump! Lightening paced!

Whisper by Brian Dearborn.
Fresh off a break-up and finally coming to terms with the death of her father, young biotech professional Madison Parker is ready to move forward with her life in California. That is until her hometown best friend from affluent Connecticut is viciously murdered.
Really enjoyed this book. I did like Madison, Bradley, Dawn, Jessica and Amy. Tiffany grew on me. Kyle I wasn't sure about either. Wasn't sure who the killer was. Twisty and gripping. 5*.
