Halloween is a week away and Penny is having trouble getting in the season, last year at this time she had a boyfriend Nash his sister Grace was a good friend and she thought his dad was a nice guy but now his dad has been convicted of murder and Nash and his sister or outsiders in the town and her parents wasted no time telling Penelope to stay away! She spendser time hanging out with her best friend Addie, Zane and Omar. She mrs. Nash someone her and her three friends don’t talk about but when a fellow student is murdered the same way as nash’s dad‘s murders she feels she must go tell him. Although Penny doesn’t know what to expect from their meeting she feels after talking to Nash it all went sideways he was understandably angry but she also knew he was hiding something from her like who’s truck was in the driveway but when he is accused of the murder Anthony thinks she sees his dad driving that same truck she knows something is up… But what is it? When people go missing in a couple or found dead she knows it will be up to her despite one of the main culprits is possibly her best friend. This book was really good if you like teen horror stories you’ll definitely like The Haunting they do have a couple of scary parts but mostly this is a mystery in a pretty good one at that because I could not figure out who it was and OMG when I did I was flabbergasted! This really is a solid read from a talented writer I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for my free arc copy please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
Ms. Preston is an absolute master weaver of horror and thrillers. This is the third book that I have read from her, and consistently and across the board, I can no predict the ending, or the next big thing to happen, which I think is really hard when the reader is constantly coming up with theories. I also love how unique each of her books are, one from each other, and from other authors works. A formal review will be posted on GR and IG
I have read three of Preston's previous books and this book did not disappoint!! I would highly recommend... The writing was excellent and the build up of the characters were great. If you like mysteries/thrillers then you're in for a treat! You're going to want to grab a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and curl up by a fireplace and get into this book... My only teeny tiny issue was it ended in a cliffhanger, but I hope that means there will be a sequel!
I like reading Natasha Preston because I fly through her books. I liked that I didn't know who the killer truly was until the end. The dialogue is very YA which is to be expected. Penny was a very easy character to dislike, which worked. There is an opportunity for a sequel.
I have been a fan of Natasha’s since her debut book, Silence was on Wattpad. I absolutely loved The Haunting and I can’t wait to read whatever Natasha writes next.
Natasha Preston is a master at her craft! This book was twisted and unexpected in a way I don't often feel.
This is the third book by Natasha Preston I’ve read and man did this one keep me hooked!! I finished this book in less than 6 hours and I did not see the twist coming!! SO good!!
I received an advanced copy of this ebook from the publisher for a honest review. This book is well written and the characters are well described. I absolutely loved this author’s writing style. It keeps you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what will happen next from the first page. I enjoyed Nash and Penny’s characters. It has all the fantastic twist and turns a great thriller needs. This book is in stores for $12.99 (USD).
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this book.
If you are looking for a quick, scary Halloween read, this one is for you!
Full of horror, murder, Nahum and mystery.
A great mystery thriller read.
Recommend.
3 Stars
I loved how fast-paced this was, and this was the perfect book to read for spooky season. The biggest issue I had with this book was that the ending was a cliffhanger.
Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an e-ARC of this book!
I love this one! It was perfect timing for Halloween and spooky vibes. Natasha Preston is always a quick buy for me and I love the smooth flow.
The Haunting is perfect for fans of the Scream franchise and other classic slasher films.
It is a fast paced and tense story that takes place in a small farming town the week leading up to Halloween, which is also the one year anniversary of the brutal murders of five teenagers.
I think slasher fans will really appreciate the vibes and twists in this one!
I love this author so much. These books tend to be silly creepy. This one has a serial murderer who targets teens. The opening scene involves our girl finding the body of a classmate on the floor of the party store.
Instead of freezing up and needing help she tells her friends mom she needs to go home and then goes to see her old boyfriend whose dad was last year's serial murderer. Her parents are at work so she's on her own AFTER DISCOVERING A BODY,
Beautiful.
And then she sneaks out at midnight! You can't have a good story if people are making good choices.
I just love it. This was a fun book.
Thank you so much for the ARC. This was a fun Halloween read.
3.75 🌟 rounded up
As soon as I saw saw that I was approved to read this ARC, I immediately dove right into the book. I've been on a fall/Halloween book kick. This booked checked all those boxes. It the me for a couple curve balls that I didn't expect.
Penny is dealing surg the aftermath after her exes father went on a killing spree right before last Halloween. It's now a year later and it starts happening all over again.
I felt the ending was a bit rushed though.
Please keep in mind this is a YA novel. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'd like to thank netgalley and the publishers for the m this ARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
This book is perfect for spooky season! I really enjoyed the banter between the teenagers and thought it really added to the overall story. There are twists and turns in this murder mystery and is perfect for teens. It does end on a cliffhanger. This is a fun read so give it a go.
A YA Halloween thriller for sure. I particularly enjoyed the banter between the teenagers and what they were all going through. The depth of each individual character and their relationship to each other was made known as the story progressed. Each time I had a question - it was answered.
I wold recommend this one to an under 18 year old crowd hands down. For those readers (me for sure) that need a more gothic gory scary readers - this just isn’t enough. But my teens loved it
This was a fun Halloween murder mystery. The dialogue and human interactions all felt very natural and unforced, which gave the book a great flow. I did partially figure out the who-done-it early on, but there was still enough of a twist at the end to leave me pleasantly surprised.
But the ending... wtf. Let me just say that the ending was abrupt. I liked the book a whole lot more before I got to the end. It was a solid 4 stars before that. But it's impossible to ignore a let down ending, so I had to bump off another star for that.
Thank you netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange of honest review. I absolutely love Natasha Preston. Her book the Cellar got me back into reading after not reading a book since high school. I was so excited to receive this copy. But hesitant because after reading the Island. But this book was absolutely amazing! The twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen I was thrown through a loop. It’s perfect for spooky season. Most people complain about the cliff hanger in every one of her books that’s why I give it a 4.5 star. I wish she would stop doing that. Or make another book to follow up and give us a complete ending. But overall I definitely recommend this book. She is an amazing writer.
This was one heck of a story all the way through until the very end. The ending definitely left me wanting, it was so incredibly abrupt. Parts of this were a little confusing, but all in all, worked out. I can’t get over how abrupt the ending was. That kind of wrecked it for me because I want to know what happens in the aftermath.
I loved this book! It’s a thriller that will keep you guessing and the perfect read for this Halloween season!
It follows the main character Penny, a year after her boyfriend’s father murdered several people around Halloween. Everything had seemed to go back to normal (except for her boyfriend Nash and his sister Grace being outcast by their community) until the killings start happening again around Halloween this year.
This book sucked me in from the beginning and the twist at the end was great! Natasha Preston always writes great thrillers, the only part i didn’t like was the cliffhanger at the end!
If you’re looking for a thrilling Halloween vibe book, I highly recommend reading The Haunting. It’s out now!
