💫 The Diamond of London is an intriguing and extremely well researched novel based on the fascinating Lady Hester Stanhope. The fictional Hetty tells the reader her life’s story which includes many true events that happened to Lady Hester and several other characters that are based on real-life people.

Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Books for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review which is not affiliated with any brand.

My favorite way to learn history is through fiction. Many will say it not accurate but that’s okay. I believe fiction gives me a feel for the era and someone to root for.Lady Hester Stanhope was a modern woman who lived when it wasn’t proper in the past. She had roles and performed acts that were thought not right for a woman but she did it anyway. She helped her uncle with politics , had adventures and lived a full life.

Lady Hester Stanhope, her uncle, William Pitt and Beau Brummell are in most of the Regency books you’ll read nowadays, the. by reading The Diamond of London you’d understand the reasons behind their influence in society at that time. This book shows the reader why Lady Hester was an example to these strong and fearless regency protagonists that we all want to believe somehow existed in an era where women were considered just property to deal with by every man in their lives. This fictional biography is a window to a very important family in England, specially to the life and struggles of Lady Hester while she lived there.
Even though it’s a story that happened somewhere around 1800, you can see that the life of the people who choose to work as politicians or people of influence hasn’t change much. One day you’re recognized, respected and valued, and another day you’re “below consideration” not to say what people call those who fall from grace in a public way.
Lady Hester’s story doesn’t end as you might hace wished for such a paragon of a woman but Andrea Penrose is kind enough to suggest that Lady Hester appreciated the life she had no matter the outcome. “Life is the journey……..”

Wow!! I was completely captivated from the beginning and couldn't put the book down and was sad I had to say goodbye to my book friends when I got to the end. The author kept me on the edge of my seat through the twists and turns, ups and downs and incredible romance.
