“Legends hold truths. Sometimes frightening ones.”

Court of Claws starts right where Queen of Roses left off and introduces us to a new court, species and a whole new host of characters! I loved the expansion or the world and am really enjoying how Briar Boleyn is taking Arthurian legends and twisting them to her own narrative. As far as a loving sister and strong character I really like Morgan as a FMC.

Unfortunately where this loses me is the romance- for such a strong, clever and confident character she seems deliberately and frustratingly obtuse, which made the whole romantic aspect painful. How many times can someone confess their adoration to you before it sinks in? I also wanted more Draven. He had so many fantastic swoon worthy lines (I honestly have so many highlighted) but I sadly felt this chemistry was lacking between the characters. We were being told about their love, but not shown. There seemed to be no growing connection between the love interest which was a bit disappointing.

I am however enjoying where this story is going and will read the next one.

Another great book in the Blood of a Fae series by Briar Boleyn. Honestly, I enjoyed this book even more than I did Queen of Roses. Boleyn's skillful world-building effortlessly immerses readers in a richly layered universe, where mythical creatures, ancient prophecies, and corrupt and cruel kingdoms collide. With its well-crafted characters, intricate plot, and lushly descriptive prose, this book proves to be an unputdownable delight for fans of the fantasy genre.

I would put this Camelot retelling in the same category as Throne of Glass. There’s some level of spice there, but the romantic plot twists are on par with with Sarah J Maas. Draven and Morgan engulf the pages with the romantic tension between them. Even without the twist and turns of their stories, I would keep coming back for more of their romance.

Court of Claws doesn't shy away from exploring complex themes, such as power, loyalty, and sacrifice. The emotional depth of the story adds another layer of resonance to the overall narrative. As secrets unfold and alliances shift, readers will find themselves engrossed in the web of deception and hidden agendas. The plot is skillfully interwoven with twists and turns that keep readers guessing until the very end.

And that ending… all I can say is… I need book 3 like… stat.

A strong sequel to Queen of Roses that I enjoyed even more than the first book. There was way more action and I was so engrossed from the beginning. Draven can literally do no wrong in my eyes, I’m a simp for this man and I have zero qualms about it. There’s court intrigue, deadly trials, magical beasts, and psychic dreams wrapped up nicely in an enemies to lovers, fake relationship, dark fantasy. I find Morgan to be a little unnecessarily prickly to Draven at times, but that may or may not be because I’m forever rooting for him and love his character. The ending was EXPLOSIVE and I just need to sit down and process everything and maybe spin some theories since I’m forced to wait for the third installment of this series. I’m fully invested now and I need Briar’s number ASAP so I can get live updates for the next book.

I hadn't thought, that could be possible, but I liked the second book more than the first!

I love it, how Morgan has to find out, who she is and what her feelings for Draven are. She is on acomplete unknown continent and she doesn't know anything about the society. But she learns very quickly and doesn't do anything, what others want her to.

I NEED book three!!
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Thank you again to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC copy of this e-book.

Book one, Queen of Roses, starts as an Arthurian retelling. Book two takes on a mind of its own in the very best way. I don't want to say too much Give me ALL THE TROPES! Enemies to lovers, one bed, forced proximity, fake relationship, feminine rage, magical competition, morally gray MMC, witty banter! Perfect for fans of ACOTAR, From Blood and Ash, and The Plated Prisoner series!

Queen of Roses has a slower, world building feel to the story but hold onto your hats for this one. I absolutely loved it!

This series just keeps going strong. In novel 2 they end up in a whole different realm which takes this into the epic fantasy arena with how different the world was and the beastly characters within. There are trials in this one and the second trial gripped my heart. Morgen and Draven manage to come together as a couple but they don't stay HEA. I have hope in novel 3 Morgan gets ahold of her issues because it's pretty clear she loves him and is letting a silly bout of pride get in the way. In the end, there is a twist I didn't see coming and I'm still wondering 'WTH?' Deceit and betrayal are weaved throughout this page-turner, and some loyalty I didn't expect. It's a great folklore reshaping I'd recommend any fan of King Arthur lore and monster love.

I ate this up trying to understand where Morgan woke up, and what was happening. So many unexpected twists. (My fave being the little boy who squirrels Morgan away and shares all his secrets with her.) I really liked the setting of this book - such a unique place! Very different from Book One, but still cool. I read Book One so fast, some details went on the wayside, so I was glad when Morgan’s thoughts kept returning home. Morgan’s vivid dreams were some of my favorite moments. They continue to drive me crazy, wondering what they could mean.

I liked that we saw more sides to Draven, and from different perspectives. However, Morgan feels much more reactive and implausible in Book Two. Perhaps as a fellow person I could excuse her personality change/trends as a product of her recent traumas, but as a reader, her persistent overreactions took away some of my respect for her. I loved the love-hate relationship going on between Morgan and Draven, but I don’t totally understand where all Morgan’s hate is coming from. I want to be more convinced she’s still worth rooting for. That cliffhanger definitely did a lot to catch my interest for Book Three!!

THANK YOU Briar Boleyn, Starwater Press, Netgalley! You guys have let me read for you again, and I’m so grateful. I will keep going back to you guys :’)

The second story in the "Blood of a Fae" series has phenomenal world building. The story starts unpacking the world building that was missing in the first story. Having two different breeds of fae each with their own darkness and secrets was masterfully done by Boleyn.

The Camelot retelling was a fun concept in the first story with gender bending of a few characters. But in this story the Camelot plot line takes a backseat as the focus is on fae power struggles.

The power struggle is gruesome with the brutal competition for the crown. The trials in this competition were wild with competitors turning on each other and eliminating the competition forever. Imagine Hunger Games with competitors that have hands that turn into snakes, others that spit venom, or claws coming out of their hands. Also, magical creatures as enemies that read your mind and demand the thing you love most as sacrifice. The trials were a huge push into the high review of this story.

The only drawback that prevented a five star was the female lead. She did a character shift from the first story. In this story she was immature and constantly angry at our male lead. And by immature I am describing temper tantrums screaming how she hates the male lead. The male lead had secrets, but he sacrificed himself for her well-being.

I honestly believe this author has so much potential with great world building, and a dynamic plot.

I am eagerly waiting for the third book as Boleyn has left us on a cliff hanger with this one!

I really enjoyed book 1, but this one was missing something for me.

I loved learning more about the world and the characters, but I didn't really like the constant love/hate war Morgan constantly fought towards Draven. I also wish there had been more scenes of Morgan learning about her powers.

The cliffhanger at the end doesn't bother me, I actually expected one.

After the first book, I needed answers, and I finally got them! This book contained a number of tropes that I enjoy in all of my fantasy novels.
We got to see more of the world, meet new beings, and watch our FMC and MMC grow into their personalities.

If I could change one thing about the book, it would be the length. For a few moments, it felt a little too long and tedious.

Still, I can't wait for the next book, especially given how this one ended.

Rated 4.5⭐️

Thank you to NetGalley, Briar Boleyn and Starwater Press for this free E-book. This review is 100% my own opinion.

If you loved the 1st one then you're going to love the second one. I couldn't read this fast enough. The slow burn steamy read from the 1st book turned into a spicy read.

Loved the way that they slowly appeared to fall in love, but I was disappointed the reason and it wasn't 100% natural in the beginning. I'm not a huge fan of "I hate ....", strong word for me.

This book leaves you wanting more. I can't wait until the 3rd book comes out. The way it ends with an unexpected character popping back up.... ohhhh ..... give me more.

Gave off spicy adult hunger games vibe!

Loved this e-book series so much I'm actually going to order this series off Amazon.

Even better then the first one. Morgan really comes into her person in this book, her character grow is amazing.
All the plot twists, shocking revelations and steamy bits kept me entranced. I could not put this book down.
I'm now *unaliving* waiting for the third book. Definitely a fav author of mine now.

This series is only getting better. Boleyn took everything I loved about the first book and built on it. There was so much backstory, character development, and world building in book two. Plus, more great dialogue and enthralling characters. I love the found family aspects added to this book. This is fantasy romance done right, where one isn't outshining the other. Both parts of the story are intertwined and moving the plot forward. And if you were read for the slow burn to speed up after the first book. you won't be disappointed.

November (and book 3) can't come soon enough...

Somehow, Court of Claws made me love Draven even more...and also want to shake Morgan more.

This sequel picks up a short time after the first book. Draven has taken Morgan to an underground kingdom where he's apparently a prince. He can't return her to Camelot for several reasons:

1) What he did after she was mortally wounded at the end of book one
2) The games he must play to take the crown
3) The fact that Arthur is completely psychotic
4) Dude has got it baaaaaaad for Morgan

Everyone can see this last one but Morgan, and I think a lot of that has to deal with how she was raised. She didn't receive a lot of love, so it's difficult for her to recognize it even when it hits her in the face.

Court of Claws has a ton of twists and turns. We get to learn more about Morgan's magic, the effects of what Draven did to save her, experience deadly court intrigue, and meet a whole slew of new characters.

There are a few times when you'll want to tear up (Lancelet) and scream (Lancelet) and jump around (Lancelet), and a few times when you'll want to throttle Morgan because she's being dense. There's more spice in this installment, so if you went through the first book searching for some sweaty time, you will NOT be disappointed. Draven is everything you've been waiting for!

Book three is going to start on an insane note, so buckle up for a whirlwind of an ending. You won't see all the twists coming!

Thank you, NetGalley and Briar Boleyn, for the chance to read this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The second book in the series and we pick up pretty much where book one finished off. This time we find out more about Draven and where he’s from, and let me tell you, there’s a lot of secrets and surprises to learn.

Back in Dravens home court there is a Hunger Games style fight to claim the throne and Draven is right in the middle. Morgan is far from home and worried about her brother and her people as Arthur wages war. She is also strangely drawn to her captor/saviour and just maybe he could be the answer to saving her people from war.

I liked the first one and this was no different. There’s plenty of action to keep you interested and the story moving along. The spice is taken up a notch as their relationship grows and changes. The background characters are awesome and I wish I had a Beks to show me through the secret passages too.

It does end on a cliffhanger, so prepare yourself for that! When does book three come out‽

A little spicy at times and a little violent but easy to devour. This book is fast paced and enthralling. You can get through the 600+ pages in a flash. If you’re a fan of ACOTAR, I think you’ll like this series. I can’t wait for Book 3.

“I could save myself, thank you very fucking much”

Yes hello I would like the next book yesterday please and thank you! I am speechless. I thought the first book had many twists and turns, but this book gave me whiplash and I loved it. The past pace of the story makes it so easy to read and keeps me entertained, there was not a single moment where I felt bored or lost. I love how sarcastic Morgan is, and how fast she bites back at anyone who dares insult her. She is strong, fearless, independent and caring. I highly recommend this book to fans of ACOTAR and FBAA.
On a side note, the cover for both this and the first book are gorgeous! If I can find them on any Swedish book stores I will buy them just so I can have them on my shelves!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Briar Boelyn for giving me the opportunity to read this book! All these opinions are my own and unbiased.

It was hard for me rate this book because there were so many aspects I loved and others, I wasn’t a huge fan of.
I loved the continued world building and getting to learn more about Draven and introduction of new characters within his court. They become Morgan’s found family during a time of isolation and I loved see her connect with each of them. I feel like the author did an amazing job introducing and immersing you in this new area of the the fantasy world while still staying connected to the world in book 1. I was hoping for more character development from the characters and I could see small areas growth emerging within them. I fell in love with Draven in this book and he is an absolute gem of a person.
Elements that weren’t my favorite were the constant misinterpretation/miscommunication between the two MCs throughout the whole book. Between that and the lies/secrets it just left me feeling confused and didn’t make a lot of sense in some parts where obvious evidence was there. The trust issues + sexual tension + flip flopping love/hate from Morgan and rollercoaster of indecision was hard to not be annoyed with 😅. In some ways, she became stronger and in others she regressed into an immature whiny child throwing a tantrum and was completely unlike her personality in book 1. Like girl, please be for real.
I love that we got to see her embrace her fae self, learn more about her past, and train her powers. I also enjoyed the ending and it helped progress the plot in a useful way while also leaving you hungry for more content which I appreciated.

My god I need about a thousand of these books. I am obsessed with Morgan and Draven and Beks and Hawl and Nighthawk and just everyone.

I haven’t been this consumed by a series in a long time, just devouring the chapters without stopping. The world building is thorough without feeling tedious, the action and romance and suspense weaving together beautifully. I simply cannot wait for the next one.

Some parts of the ending did feel a little rushed and abrupt, but overall a FANTASTIC follow up to Queen of Roses.
