It took a while for me to get the flow of things with this novel, but I'm happy I stuck with it. This was the ultimate feel-good, heartwarming story in a charming town with a lovable main character. It was wonderful and fun to follow her new life as she tries to figure out who she truly is. I enjoyed that it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows as topics such as debt and loss are discussed throughout the novel, making not only the story but the characters more realistic and relatable.
A cute summer read which is lighter on the romance than I prefer but was interesting with the travel aspects.
Thanks to the publisher for sending me an advance copy - this was a lovely tale of second chance romance, a perfect summer read
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
I enjoyed this book.
It was a nice little reminders that if you hit rock bottom, you can get your dream job. Holly also showed us that you can find true love after your first love.
This was a great book. I connected with the characters. I felt engrossed with the plot. I would read another book by this author.
this was a fun and cute story following Holly and Jack. they were fab characters and the story flowed well
Good book with a cute story in its pages. Loved the main characters and how they moved through the story. Great storyline that was a joy to read.
SUMMER IN YOUR EYES by Chris Penhall is a fun rom com. This book intrigued me because it is about a travel writer, and it did start out strong with a fun segment in Morocco. From there, the story fell a bit flat for me and it was hard to get into. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.
This is a good book. The two main characters are Holly and Jack. Holly just broke up with her ex and moved to London for a new job. Jack has just broken up with his ex and moved back to London to work at his family’s publishing company. Where Holly’s new job is as a writer. There is an instant attraction. They both try to fight the attraction. They each have issues but together they work them out and fall in love.
Holly is a travel writer who has just split up with her long term boyfriend. Together they have been running an artisan cheese business which has failed. Holly returns to London to help update some famous London travel guides. Through her work she uncovers a hidden musical venue with a past and a community of shops which are badly in need of customers. The beautiful descriptions of London made me feel as though as I actually there, and I loved travelling with Holly. And of course there was a love story at its heart. Beautifully written.
this is a book that people should read in summer. it was marketed to me as a romance but i do feel that the romance fell flat within the story
4/5 stars
Thank you to Netgalley, the publishers, and Chris Penhall for allowing me to read and review this book.
This book is marketed as a romance, and it is. It is just more of a slow-burn romance. There are really good aspects, it was well written, the characters are interesting, and I really enjoyed it. However, I would almost classify it as a contemporary book with a romance aspect.
Nevertheless, I thought this book was really good. There are funny parts, heartfelt parts, and even a small bit of mystery. There is an aspect of chasing your childhood dreams, and what can come of it. It shows that you should never settle, or give up, on many different things in life.
I think this was a really cute read, but don't go into it expecting a romance throughout the entire book. However, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a cute story that explores career changes, breakups, new experiences, learning to adapt, and some romance along the way.
I'm discovering that I have a harder time following along with the UK-set stories as there are a lot of different phrases that I have to stop to think about. However, this was a cute story. I loved following Holly on her journey of rediscovering herself after ending a long relationship. I almost felt like it didn't need the romance, honestly. It had a point, don't get me wrong, but I almost felt like it wasn't completely necessary. Very good story though and kept you guessing throughout.
"Summer in Your Eyes" by Chris Penhall is a delightful contemporary romance that captures the magic of summer love. The characters' journey is sweet and heartwarming, making it a perfect beach read.
Thank you to Netgalley for this arc.
In this book we follow Holly who was dumped by her on-again off-again boyfriend that she was in business with. Holly decides to take a job in London writing an updated travel guide for the publishing company of her favorite travel books that she grew up reading and the books that got her into travel writing. Holly meets Jack and Claudette the owners of the publishing house who also happen to be the son and wife of Seth, who wrote the travel guides that Holly fell in love with. Holly finds a hidden gem in Farthing Street and finds an old music venue called the Bullington that hasn't been used in years and hasn't been torn down. One day her cat Isabella ends up trapped in the old music hall and ends up having to go inside with the help of the man who has the keys to the building, Keith. Keith makes sure that Holly doesn't tell anyone what she has discovered. As Holly starts to find other places she starts to spend a lot of time with Jack and starts to develop feelings for him. Jack has also gotten out of a long term relationship with a former business partner like Holly. Holly then writes a blog post about the Bullington and Farthing Street in order to help the businesses there and the travel guide. But then Holly is convinced she did the wrong thing when both Jack and her neighbor Caleb, who owns a music store next to the Bullington both become upset. Jack apologizes to Holly after she doesn't come in physically to work for a few weeks. Jack and Holly share a kiss after Holly falls on him while they are trying to fix a water leak in their building. Holly decides to look for another job in order to not be around Jack anymore because of her feelings for him. Caleb announces he is a musician for a band that played in the Bullington for the last time before it mysteriously closed since he is now the owner. Caleb invites everyone in Farthing street as well as Holly, her parents, and Jack and Claudette. Jack convinces Holly not to quiet her job as a travel writer for them since Jack is opening his own business. Caleb also asks Holly to not forget any details of their night at the Bullington for an impromptu concert because she was the only one he trusted to do it right. I truly loved this book and it was so cute.
I found this novel similar to others I have read. There wasn't anything too special about it sadly. Just couldn't get into it.
Although yes this book was a little predictable I did enjoy reading it. I especially enjoyed the parts about the cute little kitty. The characters were fun. Overall a good read.
The book, marketed as a romance, was disappointing due to its lack of romance and focus on Holly's London travels. The character Holly was frustrating, constantly talking to herself. Isabella the cat was my favorite, while Claudettes was enjoyable. The plot was predictable, with the Lights band reveal being predictable. The underlying mystery about the Bollington was enjoyable, but the resolution felt slightly anti-climatic. Overall, I rated the book 3 out of 5 stars. I appreciate Netgalley and Chris Penhall providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The story of Holly and Jack, who meet when she starts working for his late fathers company. It is supposed to be her dream job, but not everything is turning out how she expected.
