Olive likes being bookish and a homebody - but she can't ask her students to do something she isn't willing to do. So, this year, Olive takes part in the Dare I Docket assignment. The task is simple: find things that are outside of your comfort zone and do them (nothing illegal, of course). Olive struggles to figure out what to add to her list, but moving in with her friend Bax is a good start. Bax is a guardian angel, hot as all get out, and seems to actually enjoy spending time with Olive and doing things on her Dare I Docket list.

What Olive doesn't know is that Bax is on a last-chance assignment as a guardian angel, and his assignment happens to be Olive. He genuinely enjoys spending time with her, and their chemistry is off the charts, but he doesn't like hiding that he's her guardian.

This is the third installment of the Supernatural Singles series, and you should read the other books to understand some of what's happening with Olive's sisters. That being said, this was such a fun book. I'm a fan of the first two books in the series, so I was counting on this one to be good as well. It definitely didn't disappoint. Olive and Bax have great chemistry, the side characters are lovable, quirky, or purposely horrible (Mason!!). My library will definitely be purchasing and I will be suggesting this in RA.

This was really sweet! I loved the idea of them working on her docket to get out of her comfort zone. And I adored the characters. However, it is definitely one you need to read the other books in the series about. Otherwise it's a little bit difficult to fully grasp.

This series of paranormal romcoms is one of my favorites! The Maxwell triplets, their mates, and closest friends make such a paranormally diverse and intriguing group. The whole group is instrumental in this story and it was great to see what's happening with the previous couples and events in the larger plot.

I've been curious about Bax, guardian angel and part of the Maxwell triplets inner circle since the beginning, and I loved getting to see his character develop and learn where his true talents lie. Bax was book boyfriend perfection with his tattoos, piercings, and protective nature. Oh, and those hallway bathroom scenes were steamy!

Olive Maxwell: college professor, risk averse introvert living in her comfort zone felt like my soul sister! Seeing her challenge herself with the items on her Dare I Docket made me consider making one myself! Maybe if Bax would be my partner....

As always, Gran Edie was the bomb and I loved her so much! I wish I had a Gran like that in my life! Is Harper next to get her HEA? I hope so!

I had the opportunity to read an advance copy of Not Your Crush's Cauldron and my honest review is shared voluntarily.

🦇 Not Your Ex's Hexs Book Review 🦇

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

❝ It wasn’t what you did that moved you forward the most, but the people who stood by your side when you did it. It was your family—your found family. The ones you chose to surround yourself with because them not being part of your life wasn’t a possibility you wanted to think about. ❞

❓ #QOTD What's one thing outside of your comfort zone you want to do this year? ❓

❝ Everyone has a spark of Magic, and when you follow it, there really is no possibility of straying from your true path.” ❞

🦇 Olive Maxwell is all too happy to leave the magical shenanigans to her sisters while she focuses on teaching. Currently, getting a grant for SupeEx has her full attention; a student exchange program that could help magical beings better understand one another's perspectives. In preparation for her grant presentation, Olive has assigned her collage students a project that will nudge them beyond their comfort zones. Realizing she's never stepped out of her own, Olive decides to participate by creating her own Dare I Docket list, featuring activities she never would have considered in the past. Meanwhile, her new roommate Bax Donovan is struggling to keep his Guardian Angel wings. Assigned as Olive's Guardian, Bax helps Olive cross items off her list while secretly protecting her. Will they take the biggest risk of all: falling in love?

💜 Blessed Be, Bwitches! For those of you who have been with me from the beginning, the second book of April Asher's Supernatural Singles series was one of my first ARC reviews on this blog. I'm so grateful that I got the chance to read the third, featuring the somewhat shy, beyond witty and witchy Olive. April Asher EXCELS at using spunky prose, nerd-tastic references, and dizzying dialogue to drag readers into the Maxwell found family. The moment I picked up this book, it felt like talking to an old friend for the first time in too long. The prose is active, engaging, and unique, breathing life to a sassy, badass cast of characters. I also adored the story's underlying message. The risks you take in life, the decisions you make to move that life forward, mean little without the right people beside you.

💜 Fingers crossed we're not done with the Supernatural Singles series yet. April Asher, please tell me Harper gets some love in the *fingers crossed* next installment?

🦇 What upset me most about this book was finishing it. Olive and Bax are adorable together while still bringing plenty of Thai-level-five spice. Anything more would have dragged the story on too long, but I'm definitely going to be sporting a book hangover this week, craving more of that wicked prose!

🦇 In all seriousness, I do wish sex hadn't entered the plot so soon, giving Olive and Bax more time to develop their friendship instead. Bax's father feels a bit one-dimensional as a villain (I expected more layers behind his motivations, which mainly boils down to reputation). Of the three books in this series, there's the least amount of magic in this one, which was a bit of a disappointment. The premise of Olive being "at risk" because of the Dare I Docket feels a bit weak, too. I expected one of Vi's bounties to potentially put Olive's life at risk, or someone using magic to steal the grant from her--some additional source of conflict to drive the story forward. As much as I loved the sweet fluff, this story needed more tension.

🦇 Recommended to fans of witty, witchy prose, the best romance tropes, and charming characters. Add a little magic to your life with the Supernatural Singles series!

This is the third book in the Supernatural Singles series and I loved the first two so I was excited to get an early copy of this one. It had been about a year since I'd read the previous books, so I did do a quick synopsis review of them before diving into this one, and I'm glad I did because these books are not good standalones; there are a lot of overlapping plot lines and references to the previous books.

Supernatural romance is not my go-to, but I really enjoyed this one. The FMC, Olive, reminded me so much of myself, and that was fun to watch her develop as a character throughout the book. Her plot line definitely got me thinking of my own life and I think that takes talent as a writer to be able to connect with your readers that way.

The MMC, Bax, is a true swoon-worthy book boyfriend. I loved seeing him develop self-confidence and really pursue his own path to happiness, despite his background and family ties. Olive and Bax really make a great couple!

This book also hints at a possible fourth in the series, and I'd love to read that should it come about.

Thanks to the St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the digital copy. My review is voluntary and honest.

Not Your Crush's Cauldron is the final book in the Maxwell Sisters Trilogy by April Asher. Thank you very much to Netgalley for this ARC.

I have enjoyed this entire series and the hints leading up to Olive and Bax. I just wish there was a little more on page pining before they got together.

I'm a very very big fan of April Asher and her sweet characters and I think this book might be my favorite of hers, Olive and Max deserve the world ugh and being able to dive back into the world with the Maxwell triplets was an absolute delight. Being able to watch Olive go out of her comfort zone was honestly my favorite part, her list was so very entertaining and being able to see the couples from the previous books was the best. If you're looking for a mushy cute romance with the best side characters I most definitely recommend this book.

all opinions are my own! thank you St Martins Press for the advanced e-arc

This is a hot and steamy roommates to lovers romance between a witch and a literal angel! This whole series has been a joy to read, and the Maxwell triplets are definitely the luckiest ladies on Earth. Pick this one up if you like you romance fun but spicy!

By the time thunder rumbled in the far distance, she’d added three things.
Three things that would stretch her comfort zone.
She felt good.
She felt exhilarated.
She also felt like she should’ve used an erasable pen.

“Be careful what you ask for, angel. If I put my arms around you, I may not let you go.”

This series continues to be a laugh out loud riot and I am loving every second of it!!

Olive and Bax were everything I’d hoped they’d be and more. Definitely the spiciest of the three books, they didn’t disappoint in that regard, but also the way they were together made them irresistible. It was sweet and funny watching them both get out of their comfort zones and I loved finally getting to see them both reach their full potentials as individuals but also together.

As always, this was a family affair and with Bax having been so closely woven into this story I LOVED the dynamic and appearances of Rose and Violet, and of course their mates. Also what demons do I have to battle to get a Harper book?? She’s DEFINITELY their fourth sister and I need her HEA in my life!!

Overall a solid book and an amazing read when you need something sweet and spicy, but also entertaining and full of heart.

Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Griffin for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Not Your Crush’s Cauldron is the second book I’ve read from the Supernatural Singles series. This is book number 3 in the series. I’ve just gone back and added book 2 to TBR list. You don’t have to read these in order but you’ll understand the relationships better and definitely get spoilers for book 1 and 2.

Olive Maxwell is the third and youngest Maxwell sister, a family known for their powers. When Olive moves in to rent a spare room from brooding, tatted and pierced (!) Guardian Angel, Bax Donovan, literal sparks fly.

I don’t want to spoil it, but I’ve been waiting for an Olive and Bax book ever since I read the first book.

If you like spicy supernatural romance set in a universe where normals and supernatural beings mostly coexist, this is for you.

Also, really hoping the next book in this series is Harper and Adrian. Please and thank you.

The consistency of this series to bring a smile to my face is just so delightful! It's comforting to know that diving into an April Asher book will not only be enjoyable but laugh-out-loud funny. So many moment that had me grinning and chuckling and feeling all the feels. This couple is one I have been waiting for since the first book, and the wait was worth it! Friends to lovers, with some serious pining on both sides, and maybe a little "guy falls first" vibes, if I'm reading the room correctly. They're also roommates, and I can't tell you how much of a catnip situation that is for me. Oftentimes, roommates ends up being a friends with benefits situation, but in this case, they actually are just friends that slowly transform into dating and a loving relationship. Exactly my cup of tea.

Olive Maxwell loves her sisters more than anything in the world and is happy that they've finally found their place in the world, alongside the men who love them. But she still feels like she hasn't quite reached the point in her life where she is content, and she's hoping getting funding for her Supernatural exchange project will be the first step in feeling complete. Being the youngest department head of her college's history is both exciting and daunting, and on top of that, she just moved in with her guardian angel friend, Baxter, who is both supportive and physically delicious. How is a girl to cope with the pressures at work and at home, especially when she keeps getting glimpses of Bax in the altogether, complete with piercings in multiple places? When Bax offers for Olive to move in, he is both elated and kicking himself, unsure if he can resist her but unable to keep from pulling her as close as possible. Work is stressful for him as well, after recently breaking two of the three rules all Guardian Angels must follow - "Don't tell your Assignment that you're their designated Guardian" and "Don't get your Assignment killed." Now, things are about to get even worse when his latest Assignment comes down from the top - Olive Maxwell. And he's at risk of breaking the third rule and losing his job forever - "Don't fall in love with your Assignment."

Bax was so ridiculously attractive in every single way. What girl hasn't daydreamed at some point that there is a Guardian Angel watching over her and maybe even falling in love? No? Just me? Anyways, I was in love faster than I expected, especially when his body matched his personality. Although the piercings threw me off, since he seemed to be more of a cinnamon roll, and those piercings screamed something less...sweet, if you know what I mean. It was a delightful surprise, for both me and Olive. Go get him girl! I adored Olive, with her determination and drive, as well as her generosity and good nature. Perhaps some may argue these two are not flawed enough, but I honestly found it so refreshing to have characters who were on the soft side and not as inclined to do things that made me want to throw my book across the room. There was a bit of a third act conflict, but we saw it coming from the very beginning, so I was braced for it. We knew that Olive would eventually find out Bax was her Guardian, and we knew she probably would be hurt. While I would have preferred a smidge more of a grovel, I actually enjoyed seeing Olive realize that Bax didn't have a choice. She was understanding, while also making sure he understood she was hurt. Seeing them both realize how in love they were with each other was the best, even if it did take forever to realize it. Three cheers for the sisters and bestie Harper, who knocked some sense into Olive, and to the bros who helped Bax realize his feelings. The secondary characters were an absolute delight in this book, especially since we knew most of them from the first two books.

I'm hoping Harper gets her books next, because the demon is so feisty with no filter. Her partner is sure to be very different from the others, and I wouldn't be surprised if we have a one night stand or friends with benefits trope in the next book.

**I received a free copy via NetGalley, and this is my honest review.**

In the first two books of this series, Olive is more of the nerdy of the Maxwell sisters. She works in the academic field and doesn't do much in terms of taking risks. Bax is the bad boy of the group, covered nearly head to toe in tattoos and rides a motorcycle. Can you see where this is going? Opposites attract indeed! I do love a good opposites attract story. It's just refreshing to experience two unlikely love interests falling head over heels for each other. I have really enjoyed reading this series but I think this one might just be my favorite so far. I could really relate to Olive as I am not really a risk taker either so it was really fun reading about her expanding her horizons and experiencing new things that she has always wanted to do but just too scared or cautious to try them. I think in that way Bax is her perfect partner. He helped her in any way he could... and sure part of that may have been about his assignment which Olive was not aware of but he was given that assignment well after he started falling for her so I will give him a pass on that.
Overall this was a cute and fun continuation of the Supernatural Singles series and I look forward to the next installment which I assume will be featuring Harper the Succubus as the female main character.

4 stars

Thank you St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. I was so excited to get this book! I loved the other books in this series and knew this book was going to be amazing! It pulled me in from the beginning. I just feel like these books are so fun and cute! I really enjoyed the almost forbidden romance in this. I love not only the main characters but the side characters are so funny! It’s also so heart warming to see the love between the sisters and their soulmates continue to grow throughout the series. I love all the books in this series! I really hope this series continues and that the next book is about Harper and possibly Adrian together!!

April Asher’s books always give me the warm and fuzzies and this book is not exception.

The third book in the Supernatural Singles series follows the third of the Maxwell triplets, Olive and her (quite literal) guardian angel, Bax in working on Olives list to help her step outside her comfort zone.

The characters lovable, the story is cute and cozy. This is such a fun romance book to curl up with.

I am a sucker for a roommate romance, and April Asher’s Not Your Crush’s Cauldron was just so much fun to read! When Olive Maxwell assigns her students to step out of their comfort zone, she realizes it’s time she does the same; her first step: moving into long-term crush and friend Baxter Donovan’s apartment. Bax is a Guardian Angel on his last chance to keep his job, and his next assignment: protect Olive, only Guardian Angel Code of Conduct Rule 3 is don’t fall in love with your assignment, and Bax isn’t so sure he’ll be able to follow the rules on this assignment. Olive is so relatable and sweet. She is by the rules and quiet with big dreams and an even bigger heart. And Bax is a rebel with a heart of gold. I adored how these two banter and how their friendship flourishes. Their steamy romance builds so organically and it was just a fun read. These two grow so much with each other’s encouragement and they’re so well developed. Their chemistry is just wonderful and they build each other up so well. This was a coupe that was easy to root for. It was a very magic-light supernatural romance, outside of him being a Guardian Angel. I wouldn’t change anything, but them being supernatural didn’t add too much overall. Still, this was adorable, the banter was wonderful, and I just loved this friends to lovers/roommate/lightly forbidden romance story. It’s definitely my favorite of the series.

The third installment in the Supernatural Singles series was exactly what I wanted from this book. A love story for the third and often over looked sister and some background about the most mysterious character in the series, Bax the Guardian Angel.

Forced proximity, friends to lovers, forbidden romance, this steamy supernatural love story is exactly the kind of book to read before it's holiday of love release date (technically the day before February 13th but you get the point here). While I loved that this story focused more on "real world issues" like troubles with work, stepping out of your comfort zone, and trying to find yourself (or your new self) in your 30s, some of the pop culture references really took me out of the fantasy of the book. An example of this is when Olive compares hanging out with her friends at the bar to the popular television show "Friends" and how they hang out in a coffee shop. Just takes me out of the book a little bit.

I listened to the first two books in this series on audiobook and I loved them! I received an ARC ebook copy of this book from Netgalley for a fair and honest review. While I did enjoy reading it, I am looking forward to still listening to the audiobook when it is released to compare and see which style I like better for this book/from this author.

As a fan of the series I really enjoyed this entry into it. There has been a lot of build-up for Olive and Bax's story through the first two books so it's great to finally see them take centre stage. I would have liked to see more scenes with them being domestic as new roommates but a lot of the plot had them out and about engaged in shenanigans and adventures. I have no problems with any of that; they do some really fun and interesting things like take aerial classes and enter a dance contest. The subplot with the relationship between Bax and his father could have been fleshed out more he's a bit of a one-dimensional mustache-twirling villain, but it's a fun romcom so I guess it's okay to not have a strong villain. The subplot with Olive's grandmother on the other hand was fantastic and a good lesson is learned by all through that one. If you like sweet, sassy romances with some mild spice then this is a great one.

“Not Your Crush’s Cauldron” by April Asher is a fun read!

It’s finally time to enjoy the story of the third Maxwell sister, Olive. She is pretty straight laced and leaves the magical shenanigans to her sisters throughout the series, until now. Olive has decided to infuse a little risk into her life much to the chagrin of her new roommate Bax, the not so perfect guardian angel.

There is a bit of a slow burn going on between the two main characters for sure. Overall, this book is sweet, mushy, and enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley, April Asher, and St. Martin’s Press for this ARC. I really enjoyed it.
