Holy hexes! This was another fun witchy read from April Asher. The Maxwell sisters never fail to entertain. This story follows the youngest Maxwell sister, Professor Olive on her Dare I Docket journey. Her sidekick and love interest is the elusive Guardian Angel, Bax Donovan. I loved their banter and chemistry. Coupled with the strong friendships of the other Maxwell sisters, they’re significant others, and lest we not forget the fabulously funny succubus Harper.

Thank you netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC. All opinions here are my own.

God, I really hoped by the end of this series it would have improved, but it turns out they have only gotten worse! I was middling on the first two, but this one was really just bad.

Firstly, Olive is presented as the witch who is in a rut, who needs to let her hair down and try new things. But why??? The reason a comfort zone exists is because it is comfortable! I just had the trope of "woman discovers she is boring in her thirties and has to make a change." It's one thing if a character doesn't like something about themselves and wants to change, it's another if people make fun of them for being boring and they decide, "yes, I am boring and I should change." I think a better theme would have been Olive trying to figure herself out, and what she really likes, instead of trying to break patterns of behavior just because she thinks she's dull.

I liked Bax as a character initially, but once again the world building has let me down. Guardian angels are woefully underdeveloped and the angels as a group are really not elaborated on. Is Bax immortal? What's the main difference between angels and humans, other than the wings? We get nothing, outside of a few meetings at Bax's office and some tension with his dad. Boring and underused!

I also thought the sexual tension could have been better. In the first few books, we can see that there is an underlying something between them, but this book has barely any pining! They're certainly hot for each other, but the tension is usually dissolved with a joke or some clumsiness on Olive's behalf. I really wanted that longing, but it just isn't here.

My biggest pet peeve has been consistent since the first book- the dialogue and group scenes are clunky and overdone. I do not care about any of the friends or their friendships, they are boring and have no real characterization. Lastly, what does a cauldron have to do with anything in this book? I don't think anyone makes a potion in this book, so the title has no relevance, not even a little. Overall, my rating is BOOOO.

This was a fun and spicy paranormal read. This was a first for me in this series, but it can read as a standalone and now I can have more fun reading the others.

Thanks St. Martin’s Press/St. Martin’s Griffin and NetGalley for this book.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this series! The second book in the series, Not Your Ex’s Hex, perfectly cues up Bax and Olive’s story. Not Your Crush’s Cauldron picks up right where the second book leaves off with Olive moving into Bax’s apartment. Unbeknownst to each other, both Bax and Olly are crushing on the other and struggle to keep their cool. There’s a couple funny fumbles in the beginning as they figure each other out, and the pesky little detail of Bax’s job as a guardian angle forbidding any romantic entanglements with an assignment which made for a fun set up to the story.

This book has forbidden love, unrequited love, forced proximity, opposites attract and was just the quintessential fall/Halloween cozy, spicy paranormal romcom. Despite being book 3, this title will work as a standalone.

Definitely hoping for another installment…maybe Harper’s story next…?

Another fun addition to the Supernatural Singles series with Not Your Crush's Cauldron. Olive and Bax have taken first place in this friend/found family group for me and I loved their story. A guardian angel with a Jacob's ladder? Hello! A nice spicy and quick read.

I really enjoyed the third installment in April Asher's series set in New York. I appreciate Olive's journey and how Bax encourages her to step out of her comfort area, and also learn to just be herself boldly.
I also really appreciated the focus on Bax and what he deals with since as Olive states, he is kind of a mystery.
The flow of the book was really great, as was the imagery. I did feel like the setting was pretty baseline- like there are mentions of NYU, Central Park, Astoria, and others, however there is no real description of these places. This is such a minor thing, with basic geography pretty understood, but as a New Yorker who is from Astoria - it fell a little flat for me.

I really liked the evolution of the relationship between Bax and Olive, and appreciated how they grew together and made each other better. There was a lot of character growth in this book, however I was a little disappointed by the sheer predictability of the last chapter in comparison to the first two books in relation to fate and mates. I enjoy the idea of fated mates, and of course I understand that this is a fantasy book in a way, however the reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because it seemed too easy, I guess is the right word, to have another one of the people in the friend group just discover their fated mates in this way. I appreciate that the book is ended pretty definitively with that, however I wish there was more of a change between the prior two books.

This was so cute!!! It's magical and fun and I loved all the characters! This was seriously adorable and I definitely need to read the others in the series now.

I didn't realize this was the 3rd book in a series! So off I went and read the first two.....

Not Your Crush's Calderon by April Asher could certainly be read as a stand alone but it was nice to have read the first two books to know the sister's stories and be familiar with the characters.

Not Your Crush's Calderon is about Olive, the youngest Maxwell witch and her journey to find both herself and true love along her way. Olive has been sleeping at her office due to her roommate's 24/7 drug dealing business and that is far from ideal. Then literal Guardian Angel, Bax asks her to move into his spare room. Bax is tattooed and pierced and just what Olive needs - in more ways than one!

This was a quick, fun, spicy read. I really enjoyed all of the Maxwell sisters, but Olive's story was my favorite. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Griffin for an advanced copy!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: open-door spicy scenes on par with the rest of the series
TWs: parental manipulation, disinterested parent
standalone: book 3 in the Supernatural Singles series- can be read as a standalone but highly recommend reading the series in order so you can get their full relationship aspect and world-building history
final thoughts: I love this series! These books are quick and easy to read packed with great characters, plenty of magic and intrigue, and swoon-worthy couple pairings.
The FMC is a teacher who tasks her students to go outside their comfort zones for an assignment and decides to take the task on for herself since she plays everything so safely. This decision triggers the guardian service and assigns her a guardian angel … who just happens to be her friend and roommate- all he has to do is promise no to fall in love with her.
Such a fun read!

what an ending to this amazing series. I love these witchy sisters. this third and final book covers the love story of Olive and Bax.

In this book both of them get to find themselves and choose to live the life they want for themselves. We get to see timid Olive experiencing what is to live out of your comfort zone and see Bax finally make choices that make him happy and not just what is expected of him.

Totally loved this series! a must read!!

APRIL ASHER – You, my dear, are always such a genius! I’ve had the absolute pleasure of reading all three of the current installments available in the Supernatural Singles series and each one gets better.

I will be honest. I am an academic. I am short, thick, and introverted. I absolutely see myself in Olive and her List. We could all use a little stroll outside of our comfort levels at times, and I adored this story of Olive pushing her bounds, and Bas somehow always being there to catch her if she falls – even though that had nothing to do with fate.

It was so great to see Bas and Olive’s developing feelings and the heat was there in a huge way. There were definitely moments when I had little room for anything outside of reading this book and I finished it super quick. Bas….oh, Bas…Sweet, troubled, tough, quiet Bas. The tattoos? The piercings? Heavens the piercings. I honestly had visceral reactions to some of those scenes.

As always, I loved the banter and support between the characters. Still well thought out, still absolutely realistic and three dimensional. Romantic and hilarious, I will always recommend these books to my fellow Romantasy lovers.

Thanks to Netgalley, April Asher, and St. Martin’s Press for an advanced copy in exchange for this review.

My favourite of this series so far! This was just a perfect feel-food fall romcom. Pride and Prejudice (2005 obviously), Hocus Pocus and Dirty Dancing all in one conversation?! This book was made for me.

Also was not expecting the 🪜 good Goddess!!

I love this series! It’s Supernatural meets a steamy version of Halloweentown and I love every second of it! Who doesn’t love a lighthearted, low-stakes, steamy, witchy story??

I swooned every time Olive called Bax her wingman 😭🥹 seriously, so cute!

I think Olive is my favorite Maxwell triplet 🫶🏻 we love a brainy FMC.

Thank you for allowing me to read this ARC and share my thoughts!

Olive Maxwell is the youngest of the Maxwell triplets, and I've been waiting for this book because I felt a connection with her. The docket made it appear that she needed to do something or become someone else, but in fact, she didn't. Even though there was a change, I still believed she was already amazing at the beginning.

While Bax is cute and sweet, he's also overprotective, which wasn't very appealing to me.

I hope this isn’t the end of the series. Harper also needs a book, right?

So I went hard and read the first two books in the series over the past month to give this book the best shot. I really enjoyed the first half, but slowly began wishing it would just wrap up. I didn't love the other two books and I definitely feel like my rating for this book as well as the series over all is probably a whopping 3 stars.

Partially, it is just the writing style and the characters. Some of the lines made me cringe (like kids from middle school trying to be cool and cursing for the first time cringe). I also normally love the tropes that were in this one but in here I just wasn't vibing. I also really hate third act breakups and this one was so annoying especially because it's a bit repetitive and her reaction the second time was like logic had left the building.

There were also some really cute quotes that I enjoyed. I would say this just isn't the series for me and I probably won't continue but I don't feel like I wasted any time. I just really wanted a lot more from this and the series as a whole. If you like cutesy romance with witchy paranormal vibes this is a really quick series.

I received a copy of this book to review via NetGalley so thank you for that and to the author and publisher for the opportunity. All opinions are my own.

📚✨Book Review✨📚

Not Your Crush’s Cauldron
Author: April Asher

Rating:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.💫

Note: I received a copy of this book to review via NetGalley, but all opinions are my own. This is book 3 in the series and while it can be read as a standalone, I’d recommend starting with book 1.

What I Liked:
✨I said it last time, but I LOVE the Maxwell sisters. They are the best part of this entire series! The scenes with their grandmother are just the sweetest and funniest.

✨This book definitely answers the question…would a witch and an angel be a good match? Yes. Yes they would!😏

✨Throughout this book, I was left wondering what Olive’s big “goal” was. I was confused about what she was trying to accomplish. But honestly, she didn’t really need to achieve anything. And while she does meet some goals but the end, I felt she was already successful at the start which I loved seeing.

What I Didn’t Like:
✨I don’t tend to enjoy books where a parent is the antagonist. I think it’s because I have a close relationship with both of my parents.

Final Thoughts:
✨I hope this isn’t the end of the series. I mean, Harper needs a book too right?!! This series is so fun and easy to read. I love the characters and the world they exist in. Either way I’ll be happy to read any book that April Asher releases!

Not your Crush's Cauldron was a cutsy third book in a series. I have not read the first two, but this book was able to stand on its own.

It started off strong and I enjoyed reading about Olive and Bax, however, it book started losing me at the end. The grandma disappearing, Olive's realizations about her list, and a lame and unnecessary third act breakup had me reading faster to get to the end. The breakup was unnecessary (in my opinion) for either Olive or Bax to have their Ah-ha moments. Also, didn't understand why he would call her angel when it literally is a job that is an obligation he dislikes? Seemed weird..

I love the Maxwell sisters and their saucy grandmother! In the last book, we saw Olive agree to move in with Bax, and boy do things heat up quickly! This book did not disappoint, and I'm hoping we have a Book 4 that focuses on a certain succubus and shifter....

I was not disappointed, this book had a carefree feel to it and I read the book in one sitting.

Olive and Bax had great chemistry throughout the book, their story was awesome. Highs and lows like most relationships with a paranormal twist. I finished the book wanted to turn back to the first page and read it again.

April Asher did great, it was beautifully written and holds the attention of the reader. I also enjoyed the relatability of the characters even in a paranormal world.
