Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this arc.
Not a fan of this one. I thought the writing itself was good but took me awhile to get into the plot.second chance romance is my favorite troupe to read but when you throw cheating into the mix it just fell flat for me.
Jared is a successful sports agent, so is Banner. He had a thing for her back in college, but when all hell broke loose, she declared war on him. A decade later, they have to work together.
This is book 2 in the Hoops series, an enemies to lovers, second chance romance. It took a while for me to really get into it. And when I stopped to think about it, I think it's because the whole story is based on a misunderstanding that led to an overreaction, which are two of my least favorite things to base a plot on. And I get why she was mad at him. But why the is he mad at her? I'm also not a fan of the cheating trope, especially not when the partner seems to be an adorable and genuine person. And I'm sorry, but "the hungry hole between my legs"?!?! All in all, I didn't connect with Banner and Jared the way I connected with August and Iris in the first book. Banner started out as being a bad as, but I found that she kind of lost this quality along the book, which was disappointing. It does show again very close to the end though.
I received an advance review copy of this book for free and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Kennedy Ryan doesn’t disappoint! I could not stop laughing throughout this entire book and I had the best time while reading this. The way that Banner and Jared were written was fantastic. Highly recommend this series!
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the arc of this book.
Block Shot is my least favorite of the Hoops series. Kennedy Ryan is still the GOAT of romance in my opinion but his one was just not it for me.
I really liked the premise of this book and I loved the idea of the main characters. Banner the smart female main character is close friends with Jared the male main character. They meet in college and grow close when studying together. They are both smart and talented and want to go far in life and with their careers. They have a falling out and meet years later as rivals, banner is still rightfully angry about what happened in college and Jared is determined to get her back no matter what.
Like I said I think this book is well written and I liked many aspects of it but I just couldn’t get over the emotional and physical cheating that was in this. Banner has a partner and Jared doesn't care and still ends up pursuing her. Cheating is just hard to get over for me especially when the person being cheated on hasn’t done anything wrong. I did like the plus size representation in this and I thought the fmc was very strong and brilliant.
I think if you’re okay with characters that are meant for each other but are flawed and make wrong choices then this is the book for you. This really brings scandal level drama into a basketball agent rivalry setting and I liked that part so much. Thank you bloom books and Netgalley for this arc for an honest review.
I adore these new covers - they are bright and just ascetically pleasing
Banner is officially my Shero! She's a badass business women whose reached the top of her game. She has the compassion and moral conpasss of a true and genuine person. Jared is not as compassionate and genuine but he knows he has real feelings for Banner and he wants to be with her..
They have little things like current relationships, work and the public eye to combat on this mission to each other.
After now finishing the shots series I love that @kennedyryan1 always encourages mental health professionals. That's huge and I love it. All in all I loved the whole thing
DNF at 45%.
Jared Foster and Banner Morales were friends in college, until Banner was deliberately humiliated by Jared's 'friends'. A decade later they are both highly successful sports agents. Jared runs his own agency, with the help of his brother, whilst Banner runs the Los Angeles branch of the Bagley & Associates agency. Their paths rarely cross until Jared and his brother move their agency to LA from San Diego when his brother signs with the LA Waves NBA team.
Jared has tried on numerous occasions to apologise to Banner and explain that he was no part of the plan to humiliate her, in fact the exact opposite. But as an overweight Latino girl Banner was unwilling to listen. Now Banner may still be bigger than 90% of the women in LA, but she's toned and curvaceous.
Banner's first client was before she was even licensed, a young Spanish-speaking player who had recently lost his entire family requested an interpreter for his discussions with Cal Bagley and then refused to sign unless Banner was his agent. All these years on, she and Zo became friends and have recently gone public as a couple.
Jared has lived up to his playboy reputation and (barely) dated a series of hot women, but he feels nothing for any of them. Heck, he doesn't even like many of them. The only woman he can tolerate was the girl who he spent one night with in college and then thought she was some sick joke initiation challenge.
Try as she can to hate him, when Banner and Jared are thrust together to organise a charity fundraiser on behalf of their respective clients, the sparks still fly. Fr his part, Jared will do whatever it takes to get back the only woman he has ever had feelings for.
I was really enjoying this. Sexy, sassy, sports, and a kickass FMC - what isn't to love? Then Banner did something I can't get over and *poof* I don't want to read this anymore. (view spoiler)Also, this had degenerated from a story with a plot to being just a rinse-and-repeat series of vaguely coercive make-out scenes where Jared physically intimidated Banner by pushing into her space, pinning her against surfaces etc. If it isn't cool for (for example) Cal Bagley to do that then it isn't cool for Jared to do it. Predatory behaviour isn't okay when they guy is young and good-looking. Sorry, rant over.
I had thought that I had read some of Kennedy Ryan's books before, which is one of the reasons I requested this book, but it seems I was mistaken.
I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Jared and Banner are EVERYTHING I love in a romance. I was obsessed with them right from the beginning! Block Shot was a fantastic story.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC, it was amazing..
First, I have to tell you, after the Kingmakers, I knew K Ryan would shake my brain again, and she did.
Technically, the male and female MCs are sports agents but there are no details about sports. No info dumping, the book is all about relations. Dialogues and feelings.
I hated Jared for the 40% of the book because he was actually rude and dumb. After what happened, he left her for ten years, and when they met again, he realized. He said mean things to her, totally unfeeling, and suddenly he realized that she is the one.
Ban is nice, strong, hardworking. She is caring. She deserved more and yet, she fell all the same.
I laughed, I felt shocked, and curious about what will happen throughout the book and really enjoyed it..
I knew this book would be nothing short of perfection; Kennedy Ryan never ceases to amaze me. BLOCK SHOT was superb. Beautifully written, it touched on a subject that I think most women have dealt with at some point or other in their life. Banner was SO relatable and I fell in love with her. Usually I am swooning over the male lead character, and while I loved Jared, Banner was it for me.
This is such an amazing series, and I can’t wait to see what Kenans book brings.
* I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for this book. All thoughts are my own.
3.5 stars
Block Shot started off really well. I liked the characters and their rivalry, but I could not get past the cheating. It made me lose respect for the characters. I think some crappy decisions were made and would have supported the characters if Banner just broke it off with Zo. It really took away from my experience of the book. The first book in this series (Long Shot) was much better and I’m looking forward to the next.
Would recommend if you loved the first book and were planning to read the series.
Kennedy Ryan does is again! More spicy, fun, and addicting romance from the queen of the genre - fans will love this.
5 stars! The ups, the downs, the love and loss. Once again, Kennedy Ryan brings the heat with this amazing story about second chances and battle of wills. You could almost call this an enemies to lovers romance, but let’s be honest... Jared and Banner were in love with each other before they even knew what it was like to be rivals and have to truly fight for what they wanted.
Banner is a breathe of fresh air! She was so raw, pure, imperfect and strong. One of the most realistic heroines I’ve ever read. I loved the author’s ability to make Banner’s flaws a front and center topic, but in a way that made you want to stand up and fight for her and cheer her on. Body image is something that every woman deals with and Banner was no exception. I LOVED that she was a curvy Latina who knew she’d never fit the mold.
Jared, Jared, Jared. A tough guy on the outside that turns to goo at just the mention of Ban. He was love struck from the moment they met on campus and started spending study time together. His unapologetic attitude and humor were so fun to read.
And let’s not forget about Zo. Without going into too much detail about him, I’ll just say that his story pulled my heart strings so hard. It was a curveball I wasn’t expecting but wow did it add emotional depth and loyalty where the book needed it most. I got nothing but love for Zo! Maybe he’ll get his own story? (pretty please!)
I loved this read from beginning to end. It made me laugh, made me say “you go girl!”, made me tear up and made me smile.
I love Kennedy Ryan but this is unfortunately my least favorite that I’ve read from her. I just didn’t like Jared AT ALL or think he deserved Banner at any point in her life. I’m coming to find that I really need to like the love interest to enjoy a romance, but if you don’t need that then maybe you’ll enjoy this book 😂 trigger warnings for cheating and a loved one falling ill/caretaking for a loved one.
[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
Book 1 in the Hoops series was really good but this one resonated with me so much that it made my heart weep and feel whole. Loved it! This book is for thick chicks everywhere. You will definitely feel seen and beautified as we should be. Authentic and real with some amazing chemistry. Enjoyed it immensely!
And again my automatic buy will always be Kennedy Ryan the way this series has a hold on me is amazing. I need more books in the series asap or to just read Kennedy Ryan’s backlist. This book was beautiful as always and I love hours it’s not a typical third act issue that comes up. Also I love that it’s basketball I love this whole series and oh man the new covers are absolutely gorgeous I can’t wait to pick up a physical copy of all of them.
I am sorry..really but I just had to do it....
DNFing@40%
This was not for me...and it was for the first time I really hate MCs both of them...
I just have not enough words for this book...just how can any book be so bad...have cheating and what not in it...
I read another Kennedy Ryan book earlier this year and it was really well done, which drew me to this one.
Lovely cover. Weed and laundromats were a humorous pairing. The story didn't grip me. It felt like a lot of dialogue and not a lot happening. I stopped after chapter 2. It's easy to read and easy to follow.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks for the ARC.
So this book def isn't my fave of the two, simply because I LOVE August, but I still really enjoyed this one!
You'd like this if you enjoy:
Love Triangles
Fierce FMC & Asshole MMC
Cheating Trope 😬
Second Chance
I love how real Kennedy made these characters. No one is perfect, and sometimes we are heavily flawed. I honestly don't LOVE the cheating trope, but that's obviously my own opinion.
